| Defect Summary | Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. these vehicles have jacking instructions which, if followed, could cause the vehicle operator to place the jack on a frame weld when attempting to raise a rear wheel. if the vehicle is jacked up with the jack placed on the frame weld and if the vehicle is free to roll (wheels not blocked or chocked), the jack could yield and the vehicle may drop suddenly. | |||||||||||||||

| Corrective Summary | Owners will be provided with a revised jack instruction and stowage card and jack warning label, as well as a supplement to the owner guide. | |||||||||||||||

| Tl. the contact owns a 1999 mercury grand marquis. the contact while changing a flat tire the began to jack the vehicle up the jack bent causing the vehicle fall off the jack. the was able to change the tire. the contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer stated the vehicle is out of warranty so there is nothing they can do. the contact has not replaced. the failure mileage was 81,000. jo | |||

| Vehicle's passenger side front tire blew out and while changing the tire the jack collapsed.*mr the jack the consumer was new since this was the first time the vehicle ever had a flat tire. the consumer took the jack to the local dealer who offered to order a new one which would have to be paid for. the consumer refused the offer especially since the replacement was the same as the one that collapsed. the consumer believes the jack is not sufficient to raise the vehicle. *nm | |||
