Vehicle was being driven on a maryland secondary road and the entire lighting system failed. the car continued to operate but with no headlights, running lights or interior lights. basically it forced us to find a quick safe pull off using a flashlight for vision. tomorrow the car is receiving a complete diagnostic check to determine the fault. it seems the lighting controls seem to be a problem as the battery and alternator checked out fine. this is a major life safety finding and needs to be addressed by ford now with the number of these vehicles on the road. *tr

2000 mercury grand marquis ls vin 2mefm75w5yx707045. while driving at 55 mph the car stalled and couldn't be started until pulled over to the side of the road. when towed and repaired at the mercury garage, the only cause was a defective #8 cylinder coil/plug assembly. i believe this is a very dangerous condition. i found out later that ford has a service bulletin out for coil/plug failures. a couple of weeks before this the #7 coil/plug assembly shorted out but it did not cause the car to shut down. i believe ford should recall 2000 mercurys and replace all 8 of the coil/plug assemblies. i bought the car new. it was my 3rd grand marquis and my last. i traded the car as a result of the #8 coil/plug failure . you may give ford this information.
