Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached.
Consequence SummaryFailure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
Corrective SummaryUfi will notify owners and replace the filters free of charge. the recall began on august 4, 2006. owners may contact ufi filters usa at 800-230-5876.

 My wife was driving down a heavily traveled major thoroughfare in the san fernando valley, when her 2003 mercury grand marquis stalled. the electric fuel pump had failed. as the vehicle died, she lost the power steering on this 4,000 pound vehicle. unfortunately, she had her two elderly disabled parents with her. the vehicle only had 39, 527 miles on it. luckily no one got hurt. *tr

 Dt*: the contact stated after hearing there was a manufacturer's offer to replace the gasoline storage tank on police vehicles due to a risk of fire in the event of a rear end collision, the vehicle was taken to a dealer. although the vehicle displayed no prior problems or had any existing failures, the contact instructed the service department to replace the fuel tank storage assembly. the consumer wanted to know why he had to pay for service when the police vehicle were being repaired for free. updated 02/27/06. *jb updated 4/6/2006 - the gas tank was not replaced. a gas tank protection shield was installed in police cars free of charge. the consumer was upset because he had to pay to have one installed in his vehicle. *nm
