AQ10001FORD MOTOR COMPANY11/18/2010Fleet Vehicle Recall Completion Audit
The agency, particularly in recent months, has been informed of incidents involving allegations of personal injury and death claimed to have been caused by safety defects and failures to conform to minimum federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) on rental car vehicles for which a safety recall to remedy the safety defect or noncompliance had allegedly not been performed prior to the rental car company's lease of the vehicle.nhtsa understands that there is presently a petition before the federal trade commission (ftc) seeking to prohibit at least one rental car company from renting vehicles on which safety recall campaign remedies remain outstanding.the purpose of this audit query (aq) is to investigate recall remedy completion by rental car companies on the above-listed safety recall campaigns.these campaigns were chosen due to their inclusion of vehicles used in the rental market.this information is expected to provide the agency an indication of how completely and how quickly rental car fleets, in general or individually, perform necessary recall-related repairs or other remedies on the vehicles owned and then leased for use on the roadways.this aq is opened.

Vehicle loses power at high speed while driving on highways. this problem has occurred 3 times and is a very dangerous situation. fortunately no accidents have happened. lincoln replaced a part but the incident has happened several times again since part was replaced. lose power/stall out at high speed driving on highways.

Driving down the highway at 65 mph and i felt a slight jerk in the vehicle (similar to shifting) and the yellow wrench dashboard light came on, when i pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened. the car was still running but the accelerator did nothing. i pulled the car over, put it in park, turned it off, then back on and it was fine. after driving for another hour, the same thing happened. this is dangerous!! not having an accellerator on a 70 mph highway is not safe! after researching on the internet the same problem has happened to many milan owners. it's in the shop right now and they can't figure out what's wrong.

When driving, the car feels like it shifts gears, the wrench light comes on and engine power is lost. after pulling over, turning off the engine and restarting, the car drives normally. this happened multiple times in one day. dealer reprogrammed pcm and it was fine for two months. same thing happened on june 21, 2012. this is potentially life threatening problem because it has happened at highway speeds in rush hour conditions. many consumer reports of same symptoms can be easily found on internet by searching for electronic throttle control. when i took car to dealer after most recent occurrence, they said their were no codes showing so there was nothing to fix. ford needs to investigate why this is happening and recall/fix this problem before someone is killed or seriously injured because of this problem!

No incident to report. . .yet. this complaint is re safety recall notice 11s23 (nhtsa campaign id number 11v574000.) as noted in the remedy section, ford notified me of the recall; on february 6th, the dealer (brandon ford in florida) inspected the vehicle and determined that replacement was necessary. brandon ford did not have the necessary parts in stock; i was told they would call when they arrived. on march 15th, still with a defective vehicle, i contacted brandon ford again and explained that i had to drive the vehicle back to michigan on april 13th. today (3/16), i was told that they still do not have the parts and don't know when they'll get them. erin at brandon ford told me that i (not them, not ford) could try other dealers or call the ford customer service # (i guess i have to.) two months should be more than enough time to fix their problem. so although a remedy has been outlined in the nhtsa database, there appears to be no concern by ford to actually implement and no follow-up by nhtsa to verify that ford fixes the problem. i'm afraid to drive the car from florida to michigan. it needs to be fixed (without me having to call all over florida looking for a part to replace their defective part) or they need to give me a loaner car.

In oct.2009 i purchased a 2010 mercury milan, vin 3mehmoha9ar629096 from ken stoepel ford lincoln mercury dealer in kerrville, texas. i believe that there is a safety issue with the vehicle. the instrument panel shows blue speedometer numbers which show up nicely when it is in the garage but while driving on the highway under normal daytime conditions, the numbers do not show. i have talked with a rep at ford motor co. and have also taken it to the dealer on two occasions and they say that it cannot be corrected. driving without being able to see how fast i am going is a safety hazard. the dealer's service manager admitted that others have complained of this problam and that it also presents itself on the ford f150 pickup truck and obviously on the 2010 ford fusion.
