My 2004 mercury monterey had a recall job done on the transmission replacing the torque converter approximately 2 months ago. i was driving home from church today and the transmission stopped working. my family ended up stranded. it was lucky for us that the street wasn't busy so that we didn't have an accident.

2004 monterey was serviced by ford/mercury dealer per recall 12v-006 as safety prevention repairs at 110677 mileage between 08/14/12 and 08/17/12. invoice states 11s25 torque converter replacement was completed. vehicle was returned to customer . less than five months, on 01/12/13, at 112360 mileage, upon arriving home, the vehicle lost forward and reverse power while attemping to turn it around. it is difficult to understand because the safety recall notice 11s25 / nhtsa recall 12v-006 states that it may be possible for your vehicle to lose forward and reverse power while driving due to worn splines in the transmission torque converter. however it would seem unlikely that anything would be worn within the short time period and low mileage indicated as follows: note that the 11s25 torque converter replacement was completed less than five months before, (08/17/12 until 01/12/13). also note that the mileage difference between the dealer repair invoice (110677) and the point of forward and reverse power loss (112360) is only 1683 miles

While driving i noticed my third row seat was bouncing some, when i stopped i found that the latch holding the seat down was unattached. when i took it into the dealer he said that it is rusted through. i had my special needs son in that seat, hit his head but nothing major. unfortunately i now am unable to transport my special needs son because he has to be in the third row seat. my drivers side wheel well is also totally rusted through and water is getting into the car. i am not sure if it is related but my traction control light is always off and on along with the tire pressure indicator. i already replaced the pcm last year when my car became un-drivable due to major electrical issues.

My vehicle lost engine power while in drive and came to a complete stop in the middle of lanes during rush-hour traffic. also lost reverse had to be towed. since the incident, i discovered there was a recall for this exact issue and attempted to resolve directly through ford. i've submitted receipts for services performed and ford is non-responsive to my requests for reimbursement.

I was on my way home after picking up my 2 granddaughters and my car just lost all movement. the motor was running but when i tried to accelerate it would not move forward. i was able to coast to the bottom of the hill, were lucky there was a turnoff lane. i called for assistance and then had to be towed. the girls were scared to death, i guess just knowing that we weren't able to go, it was dark and we were on a busy highway. the mechanic has informed me that it is the transmission. my car is a 2004 mercury monterey, only 77,650 miles. it has never given me any trouble. this has been quite an inconvenience, especially since i work everyday and it is going to be quite an expense to replace, last quote was 2600.00, which is not easy to come by given the economy. after reading over 100 complaints from others sharing the same experience, i feel this is definitely something that needs to be investigated. i guess we were lucky that an accident did not occur, given the circumstances under which this happened.

I have a 2004 mercury monterey which i purchased from a dealership in november of 2004 when the van had approximately 7700 miles on it. i have maintained the van. last night, my teenaged son was driving and the van began pulling hard to the right. my son was nearly home from his job and managed to pull the van into a parking space. the wheels are leaning heavily inward and one (18 month old) tire is buckling. it appears the front axel is breaking. the van is undrivable. i have never received a recall notice for this defect. the van has never been involved in an accident while i have owned it/nor to my knowledge before that. i am attempting to contact ford to see if the damage is related to a defect indicated in a recall notice in early 2004 prior to my ownership.
