Defect SummaryCracks have been found in the front safety belt outboard anchor tabs due to a combination of hydrogen embrittlement of the tab and stress introduced during attachment of the anchor tab to the seat frame. this does not conform with the requirements of fmvss no. 210, seat belt assembly anchorages.
Consequence SummaryConsequence of non-compliance: a fracture or separation in this area would reduce the load that the anchor and the front safety belt anchorages could sustain, increasing the risk of injury in a vehicle collisoin.

Consumer states the main bolt securing the left rear seatbelt assembly to the floor broke off completely while adjusting and pulling on the belt, upon examination consumer found the sheared surface of the broken bolt to be corroded rather than shinny, which suggested to the consumer that the bolt had been broken for a long time and had almost certainly been overstressed during the original installation, consumer was advised by dealership that warranty had expired and that he would be responsible for the necessary repairs.*jb
