Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence SummaryLoss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket napa, raybestos, ac delco, aimco, carquest, and bendix brake hydraulic master cylinders and has no relation to any original equipment installed on daimlerchrysler or ford vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

I commute a long distance to work, when i can't fill up my gas tank and the engine light constantly comes on i don't feel safe. when it rains the car sometimes losing power and brakes. the tires and brakes have already been replaced. the following items have also been reolaced, seat belts, air conditioner, drivers side eletric window motor, the horn and more. whenever i take the car to the dealership i am told that the engine light coming on is no big deal and the brakes and tires were normal wear and tear (the car was maybe a year to a year and a half old) they also told me there is nothing they can do about the gas tank not filling up. i am extremely dissatisfied and would like to know what i can do legally about it. my car is going into the shop again for what i think may be the sensors (this has happened before) the only differance is that this will be the second time i have to pay out of my pocket, i have contacted lemon law, the dealership, ford, and the bank holding the lease. lemon law contacted the dealership and this was the only time i received service with a smile instead of an attitude. even though the problem is still not resolved. please let me know what i can do to have these problems resolved.( dot number: )

This mercury mystique has been a problem from the first time i drove it. all of the recalls were serviced by the dealer but i also experienced both front struts breaking, the front spring breaking, the front rotors cracking and the list goes on. the last straw was when the transmission failed at 74,000. the complete unit was replaced at a cost of over $2,000!! i've read the list of complaints on the 95' mystique and it's makes me want to cry. i will never by a ford product again.

Each of these problems happened within 1 week of one another. i contacted my dealership and the mercury customer hotline, both of whom said it wasn't their problem since the vehicle was past the 36,000 mile warranty. so many failures, just 2000 miles out of warranty, however, is inexcusable, and mercury should have stood behind their product.

Consumer took car to the dealership severaltimes for brake failure/ steering column failure, and premature wear of tires. had all her tires replaced two month ago. while driving 45mph on the highway and t approaching a trash truck in front of her, trash truck speeded up an d got in front of consumer's vehicle. consumer tried to overtake the trash truck and ran into a curb. trash truck put on brakes and so did consumer. however, consumer's vehicle rear ended the back of the truck due to brake failue, and steering column disconnected from dashboard, and dropped in her lap. also airbags deployed and dropped into consumer's lap, and the substance released affected her son's eyes. the car was totaled. *ak
While driving 45 mph and without a collision occurring, driver's and passenger's air bags deployed, cause unknown. also the abs brakes locked up. please give any further details. *ak

Problem with fan motor led to our taking vehicle into dealer. their inspection revealed severe deterioration to wiring harness insulation which service manager said might lead to a fire hazard. ford area rep contacted and offered $1,500 payment toward $2,500 bill. this all took place yesterday, june 10, 1999. i did not authorize any replacement to be done pending further conversation with ford and request that they replace defective wiring harness at no charge to me. please also note that in june 1998, i completed and filed another vehicle owner's questionanaire, this time having to do with defective wiring relating to the abs system. i received no response from that from dot or ford. this problem, having to do with defective weatherproof covering on the 22 pin electrical connector that controls abs and traction control circuits and causes inadvertent braking. i believe these are problems that need the attention of your agency before injuries or fatalaties take place.

I first told the dealer of a small leak. they said it was nothing. i've had nothing but problems with this car and ford refuses to address the problems. i know of many people who have had similar problems. i should not be paying $3,000 for a new transmission for a car that only has 43,594 miles on it. the government should do something about this ongoing problem. the consumer shouldn't be raped by manufacturers lack of interest in making vehicles that will last past 50,000 miles when they ask for tens of thousands up front for their product. please help!!!!!!
