Defect SummaryCertain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. these brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. when subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.
Consequence SummaryLoss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
Corrective SummaryAffinia (brake parts, inc.) will replace the subject brake hydraulic master cylinders free of charge. the recall began on march 20, 2006. owners can contact affina group customer service at 1-800-323-0354.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket napa, raybestos, ac delco, aimco, carquest, and bendix brake hydraulic master cylinders and has no relation to any original equipment installed on daimlerchrysler or ford vehicles.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Abs system is late. this car stops very quickly on dry pavement and it requires a very long distance to stop on wet or icy conditions. the car feels like it is being pushed during icy conditions. i have returned to my dealer several times. the frount brake pads have been replaced and the hydraulic pressure have been checked. this car does not feel safe! however, the dealer says they do not know what to do. i have compared my car to other of the same year and model which has convinced me that my abs system is not working properly.

Tl*the contact owns a 1999 mercury mystique. the brake pedal extended to the floor when it was depressed. the contact attempted to exit the driveway at 2 mph, but the vehicle failed to stop. she had to continuously apply pressure to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to stop. she inspected the vehicle and noticed brake fluid leaking from underneath. she also noticed that the brake line and chassis were excessively rusted. the dealer stated that because there was no recall, they would not assume any financial responsibility for the repair. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 206,000. updated 09/10/08. *lj updated 09/12/08. *jb

The left front power seat base twists and rocks on its supports. this defect occurred within three months after purchase, the dealer is now installing part #xs2z5461711aa for the third time. i am concerned that if these seat supports fail this easily, how well will they perform in a crash? in addition, if these continually fail, a stronger brace should be installed, not the same part over and over. in reference to my second problem noted, the brakes shuddered within the first month of ownership. (1/99) the dealer cut the rotors and the problem reappeared soon after. again i returned the vehicle to the dealer, he informed me that the rotors are not covered under the basic new vehicle warranty. my concern is as follows: if the rotors are warped from the date of purchase, shouldn't the dealer replace them? nonetheless, i recently replaced the front rotors and pads at a sts tire store.
Consumer took vehicle to dealer at 700 miles for poor brake performance, dealer replaced brake rotors, at 2000 miles the brakes are still not stoping correctly, and they have no remedy. vehicle wobbles when braking. *ak
