Exhaust manifold studs breaking off. checked prior to repair by calling a local ford dealer and also on the internet, to see if there was a recall on this as it is an extensive repair and very expensive to repair. could not find an official recall from ford, but found numerous websites and complaints and concerns from owners, nationally, as well as internationally, of the 1993 mercury villager who have experienced this exact problem.

The exhaust manifold studs(left side)broke first. we were required to fix for $170. next the exhaust manifold craicked and it was replaced. finally the right side manifold studs broke in late 1998 and we had to replace those for around $200. there are numerous complaints in your database already regarding this same problem. some involved exhaust leaking into the passenger cabin which is very dangerous. i would recommend an investigation with ford being required to fix and refund owners for this resolving this obvious defect in their exhaust system.
