Purchased a used 1994 3000gt mit. two years later the auto. transmission blew out. had to pay $2,000.00 for repairs in addition to storage charges. took a month to scrape up the money to pay. had to double up on bills in order to get car fixed. read last week mit. motors in japan knew about defective parts installed in their vehicles for over 2 decades. traded this lemon in sept. 2000 liccardi ford, inc. estimated exact date of transmission failure and current mileage. as well as date of purchase. good riddance!! deserve reimbursement! *nm *nm updated 03/09/06. *jb *nm

Under normal driving conditions, vehicle lost all power and engine raced wildly when accelerator was pressed. this condition continued until vehicle slowed to around 20 mph when power was regained until speed reached 40 mph when failure occurred again. traffic was backed up behind me with angry motorists passing in dangerous areas because of my limited speed. fault was traced to the end clutch assembly inside the transmission that prevented transmission from shifting into 4th gear. i don't have the old parts. *nm

In the nearly year i've owned my car i've had four problems with my tranny. at the time i purchased the vehicle, i could not afford the $3000+ the dealership was asking for an extended warranty and no other extended warranty company that i've contacted offers extended warranties on twin turbo cars. so all of this, roughly $8000 in the past year, has come from my pocket, which i'm still paying. in the original transmission with the car, the seals were leaking roughly 2 months after i bought the car. i bought replacement seals and fixed this, only to have my tranny lock up the wheels on me while doing roughly 75 mph on the 241 toll road. it is only due to low traffic at that time that no one got hurt. i then replaced the transmission. and after about 6 months, my wheels locked up again, and on the 241 late at night. i have yet to figure out how i didn't get injured, and now, the latest problem is that this transmission is leaking as well! for originally being a $45000 sports car, which i purchased used at $20000, these are problems that certainly aren't expected or make the car worth owning.*ak

I am not the 1st owner of this car but previous owner experienced same problem. awd transfer case lock-up at highway speeds. loud rattling noise, extreme difficulty shifting, fluid leaked out. this problem is very common in all 3000gt and stealth cars equipped with awd powertrain. additionl cases of this problem can be found simply by searching around car owner communities such as www.3si.org . mitsubishi dealer won't repair my transfer case and only solution is to buy a new one. total cost would be over $5000 assuming no other damage to drivetrain was experienced, which is very likely.*ak
