While driving at night on interstate, one headlight dimmed and then went out completely. repairshop was unable to repair because headlight socket was melted. referred me to mitsubishi dealer. before repair completed, the second headlight went out while driving at night on interstate on subsequent evening. fog lights were also not operational. only parking lights operational. it appears from other complaints that this is a chronic lighting safety issue with the mitsubishi eclipse. *tr

Both the right and left headlamp on my wife's 2000 mitsubishi eclipse stopped working (both high and low beams) at the exact same time. upon investigating, we found that all fuses were ok, but the headlamp wiring harnesses had melted. this is the same problem that has been reported in case numbers 10145878, 10111932, and 10100237. if this problem occured in the middle of a night-time drive, it could create a very dangerous situation. *nm

I purchased a 2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt in 2001 and recently the left head lamp dimmed and i thought the head lamp needed to be replaced. i purchased a new bulb only to discover the head lamp harness had been melted. shortly there after i driving home after sunset and both head lamps went out. all i could do was turn on my fog lamps to get light to see where i was going. i live in rural area and without any street lamps i could not even see the road. once i arrived home i had my husband check the head lamp and the right head lamp harness is now melted as well. mitsubishi should be held accountable for defective parts and design. i am very thankful that both my children had not been in the car with me when the head lamps decided to go. additionally, my husband did verify that the fuses were not blown. i have read of others with the same year and model eclipse with the same problem. *nm

My turn signal lever broke and was hanging by the wires. my right and left turn signals went off alternately as i was trying to manually turn them off by pressing the broken lever back in. i researched the internet to find that my car (2000 mitsubishi eclipse gt) had a recall on the lever (mitsubishi recall # 990wnd0093 and nhtsa recall #99v305). my car was at a mitsubishi dealer for service along with the broken lever and i was told that the broken lever wasn't on a recall. i called mitsubishi (800-222-0037) and was referred to a case manager and she informed me that my vin# didn't correspond to that recall. she said the recall was for cars manufactured up until october for the year and mine was manufactured in november (1 month later). she said although i experienced the problems stated in the recall exactly, my car wasn't eligible. i had to pay $135.00 to get the lever replaced. this is ridiculous as turn signal levers do not break (especially at 6 years old) and the fact that my model and year car has a recall on it for the exact thing i experienced but my vin number was not included. i would also like to state that i bought my car from the dealership brand new in 2000. in 2003, my clear coat started coming off and is very bad now as my car is black and the affected areas are white. also, my dashboard has severe cracks all over which started in 2004 and my glove box does not work because the plastic broke around the lock broke and i have to manually open it with some tools. i called mitsubishi about the paint when it started to happen back in 2003 and was told that it was due to the elements and there was nothing they could do. to my amazement, i found several complaints just like mine with the same car on the internet and have seen a few black eclipses with paint/clear coat problems just like mine. i will never buy a mitsubishi car ever again. *jb
