Defect SummaryMitsubishi is recalling 45,988 my 2005-2007 endeavor, galant, eclipse coupe, and my 2007 eclipse spyder vehicles. the bracket that is the attachment point for the left rear fuel tank mounting strap may have been improperly formed during a metal stamping process. the process may have caused the metal to have a split in the area where the bolt that holds one of the two fuel tank straps to the underside of the vehicle is located. in the event the fuel tank is full and the vehicle is subject to a severe collision, the bracket may break and allow the fuel tank to drop down, possibly causing a fuel leak.
Consequence SummaryFuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect to see if the left rear fuel tank strap mounting bracket has splitting beyond a specific limit. vehicles with moderate to severe splitting will be repaired using a reinforcement cap, a special structural adhesive, and a rivet to reinforce the fuel tank mounting bracket. the recall began on september 20, 2008. owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.

Defect SummaryOn certain vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions, the key lock cable was improperly manufactured and may not allow the cable end to lock into the floor shifter mechanism. this can result in the interlock system to become inoperative and allow the ignition key to be removed without the gearshift mechanism being placed in the park position.
Consequence SummaryIf the driver does not shift to park before removing the key and fails to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect the ignition interlock cable and replace it if necessary. the recall began on november 20, 2006. owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-888-648-7820.

Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, the metal forming part of the front crossmember may have been improperly stamped resulting in the metal becoming thinner in the cross-section than specified. this could, over time, result in breakage of the crossmember.
Consequence SummaryBreakage of the crossmember may allow separation of the passenger side lower control arm, which may result in the loss of steering control increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and replace the crossmember free of charge. the recall began on september 21, 2006. owners may contact mitsubishi at 888-648-7820.

When vehicle is left in ambient temperatures above 85 degrees, attempting to raise or lower the convertible top is sometimes interrupted when the power tonneau cover door reaches the open position, resulting in complete inability to complete the operation. tonneau cover door remains locked in the raised position making driving vehicle impossible. when pulling over to raise top with rain approaching, this becomes dangerous, as raising the top to up and locked position must be done manually, a process that takes upwards to about 20 minutes. the sensor switch located on the piston for the tonneau cover door is the problem, it sometimes shows the door partially opened in warm temperatures, giving a false reading, stopping the movement of the top. my car was taken to the dealership twice with this problem. it is hard to recreate, unless the car is left outside in high temperatures. the piston has been replaced. there are currently no tsb's for this problem, yet i am aware of at least one other car, same model and year with the identical problem that was at the same dealership as mine at the same time. *tr

2007 mitsubishi eclipse spyder gt - at 3,561 miles the clutch burnt up and the dealer did not honor the warranty, costing me $1880.00. at 14,143 approx miles, the clutch burnt up again. not wanting a 3rd mitsubishi clutch, i took it to another automotive shop who informed me that the mitsubishi dealer did not replace the flywheel as stated in his invoice (i have) and put in a heavier duty clutch. this has cost me over $4,000 for a car with 14,000 miles and barely 2 years old. i have driven a stick all my life and never replaced one under 100,000 miles until this car. *tr
SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
09/14/2006120001
Front brakes squeal and squeak badly when slowly braking since september 2006. i have taken vehicle to dealer x6 times with the same issue. dealer continues to say its because i ride my breaks. i've had the rotors resurfaced x2, rotors replaced x1, brake pad x3. the brakes today 07/01/08, continue to squeal and squeak, dealer states, the brakes have good pad, but rotors need to be resurfaced due to glaze they replace them in dec. 2007 (its been 10,000 miles later) and dealer says i need to pay for resurfacing. the back brakes makes loud noise when in reverse. i reported, but dealer did not follow up. *tr

TIRES
12/19/20081
At a little over 33,000 miles i was experiencing issues with losing air in my tires on my 2007 mitsubishi spyder eclipse. the tires i have are p235 45r18 - goodyear eagle. one morning my tires would not even keep enough air in them to get to work. i stopped at the mitsubishi dealership where i purchased my car and they told me it was too dangerous to drive on them. i asked about a warranty and they told me there was none. i replaced the tires because i was afraid to drive my car at the cost of a little over $600. now i am having trouble with a 3rd tire doing exactly the same thing. there are cracks in the tires and this is causing the loss of air. *tr
