Defect SummaryMitsubishi is recalling certain model year 2004 endeavor vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, wisconsin, and washington d.c. cold states include north dakota, south dakota, nebraska, kansas, oklahoma, colorado, wyoming, montana, idaho, washington, oregon, and utah. adjoining states include arkansas, tennessee, and north carolina. in severe corrosive environments where road salts are frequently used in winter vehicles may be exposed to road debris (mud) mixed with road salt. this material can become trapped between a reinforcing bracket and the fuel filler pipe, potentially causing corrosion. over time, corrosion could create a leak in the fuel filler pipe that could result in a fuel leakage when fueling the vehicle.
Consequence SummaryFuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel filler pipe with a new improved part free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin on or before july 5, 2010. owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.

Mitsubishi endeavor 2004 fuel tank fill-up hose (sill hose) has hole - causing fuel leak when filling up the gas tank. it also cause the service light to turn on due to the holes in fuel hose. dealer wants $600 for replacing the sill fuel hose. however, i feel it is not right, as its only 5 years old vehicle. i checked the part department to find out how much it cost to replace. the service tech told me that they have to order 6 more same parts for other customers for the same problem. it reminds me of ford pinto - which can be very explosive when rear-collision-ed. please advise, as i believe this kind of problem deserves a serious safety recall. *tr

Fuel filler neck leaking gas and filler neck & clamp defective on a 2004 mitsubishi endeavor awd. the service engine soon light came on 08/27/2009 and the suv was immediately taken to the rt 112 mitsubishi dealer in medford ny. the dealer checked & found code p0456 stored. cleared code and charged $98. the light came on again few days after. informed dealer about problem. took the suv back to dealer on 09/22 and they did another test and found code p0442, small evap leak. replaced gas cap for $48.57. took the suv to motorworld group in wilkes barre, pa for pa state inspection and it failed the safety inspection. the pa dealership said fuel filler neck leaking gas and needs to be replaced. total cost $610($265 for parts & balance for 4 hours labor). the service advisor said that they experienced the same problem on the mitsubishi montero models. apparently the manufacturer did not bother to correct this defect at the detriment of the buyers, paying hefty repair bills for their own profit. please investigate and contact us soon. *tr

The fuel filler tube on my 2004 mitsubishi endeavor rusted out resulting in fuel leaking out whenever i filled the tank. the fuel filler tube has a coverplate in pne section to protect it from being damaged. wet dirt and debris collected in this coverplate due to normal driving, resulting in the fuel filler tube rusting out where it was covered with wet dirt and debris. the mitsubishi dealer repaired the rusted tube by totally replacing it at a cost of $850.00 that i had to pay. this part was approximately 5 years old when it had to be replaced. i have pictures of the rusted tube and coverplate that i can provide. this is a major safety and environmental exposure for endeavor owners and also an expensive repair for a part you would expect to last the lifetime of the vehicle. *tr

2004 mitsubishi endeavor pipe that leads from the place where you put in fuel to the fuel tank is made of metal and has rotted away. a hole has been found and when gas is put into the tank it leaks out all over the ground every time gas is put into the tank. it does this so severely, it almost doesn't make it into the tank and cannot fill up the entire tank. what has been done to correct the problem, is we ordered a new replacement hose (which is also metal so it will eventually rot out) and had it replaced. this is very expensive. this part should be recalled immediately! it is defective! *tr
