POWER TRAIN - MANUAL TRANSMISSION - FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY
PE08006MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA, INC.01/29/200804/14/2008IGNITION-PARK INTERLOCK SYSTEM08V276000
The subject vehicle ignition-park interlock and shift lock (brake-shift interlock) systems are mechanically actuated.the systems utilize two cable assemblies that connect to a plastic housing mounted to the shift lever mechanism.within the housing is a lever (interlock lever) that the ignition-park interlock cable connects to.when the interlock lever is positioned in its rearward travel range, the ignition key removal is prevented; when the lever is positioned in its forward position, key removal is allowed.according to mitsubishi, the ignition key interlock cable may allow the interlock lever to fall forward during vehicle use.in this state the ignition key can be removed from the ignition switch when the gearshift mechanism is not in the park position.if the driver does not shift to park before removing the key and fails to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur.most of the reported crash incidents were minor in nature involving unoccupied vehicles rolling from a parked condition and striking other vehicles or objects.the single injury incident occurred when the operator parked the vehicle, exited, and was subsequently struck by the vehicle as it rolled away.the type and severity of the injuries were not described.in a letter dated march 21, 2008, mitsubishi advised nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall to address this condition (see www.safercar.gov, recall action 08v-139 for further details); remedy details and timing are to be determined.accordingly the investigation is closed.

I parked my 2004 endeavor in the garage like i do every day when i return home. i put the car in park and removed the ignition key. i took some groceries from the passenger seat, closed the passenger door and went inside. i came out a few minutes later to retrieve the rest of my groceries but the car was missing! i looked out the garage door (which was open) and saw my car crashed into the side of our neighbor's house across the street. when i approached the car i noted that the gear was in reverse! the back end of the endeavor was demolished. the neighbor's house was damaged along with the mailbox and pole and garden lights that the car ran over. *jb

I am the original owner of a 2004 mitsubishi endeavor with a few complains. rear window regulator came apart, rear third brake light cracked in half while sitting in the sun, and now it is sitting at the dealership with transmission problem. at 20 mph the vehicle starts shaking the front end like a bad tire. i replace the tires and the cv shafts with no relieve. took it to the dealer and no fighting with them. they want to charge me to flush the fluid before the do any warranty work. because i don't have maintenance records they are not wanting to help even though i have a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty. i am in a rental waiting another day for a mitsubishi rep to call. did i mention i am a ase master tech. *tr

I own a 2004 mitsubishi endeavor and the only owner. on friday, 06/10/06 the car broke, i put it in driving and the truck went (2 times) reversed . i almost hit a car behind me. i called mitsubishi dealer , and that is when the night mare started. it took over 15 phone calls to get my truck towing to the dealer. they request maintenance records and still are refusing to fixed my car. my car has 62,600 miles under the extended warranty is cover the power train up to 100,000 miles. today is being 9 days since the incident. i also have an extended warranty, that will not pay for the repairs since is supposed to be cover by mitsubishi. the dealer, crown mitsubishi in st petersburg, florida is refusing to tell me who is the contact person in mitsubishi who supposed to approve my repairs. my car is only 2 1/2 years old. i had records of continues maintenance 17 of them. they are giving me the run around since, this started. *nm

Transmission -- a high pitch whining noise verified by dealer as coming from the transmission. mitsubishi customer relations adjudication, direct from management, is that the noise is normal. this is a blatant insult to my intelligence. *nm

I purchased a 2004 mitsubishi endeavor from dave smith motors in september, 2005. it has been in the shop for repairs 6 times. once they replaced a falsely sealed front windshield, twice they repaired the heater core, and once they repaired the drive line. the 2 other visits were for initial inspection and estimate . now it smells like burning electric wires and it is stalling while in motion. this car is unreliable and has been under repair for weeks! i am afraid to drive it because i never know when it is going to break down. *nm
