My galant has had wheel vibration problems since i purchased it brand new in 2000. i took it to the dealership a countless number of times to figure out what the problem was. they always told me that it needed to be balanced and that they would replace the rotors, pads and bushings on the front passenger wheel. i still had the wheel vibrations and continued to argue with them about the problem while loosing time at work and spending my weekend mornings and afternoons at the dealership. every six months i've been taking my car to get the tires balanced and aligned to at least limit the vibrations to a minimum. the car vibrates at highway speeds and has more tire wear on the passenger front tire than on the rest of the car. 68,000 miles and 5 years with only 8 more payments left to go and i feel that i've been mistreated by mitsubishi after this being my second mitsubishi car. due to mitsubishis' poor service and unwillfulness to help a 2 time buyer of their cars i am no longer loyal to mitsubishi. i own a 1996 nissan altima that runs 2 times better than my galant that i bought brand new in 2000.

Front rotors keep warping after several months of driving. this started a few months after i purchased car in 1999. dealer turned rotors; had to take back in a few months; turned rotors again. warranty ran out and rotors were replaced by another auto service in may of 2000. as of oct they need replacing again. dealer took care of this at no cost. why are these rotors wearing out so quickly. never had a car do that before.

On february 4, 1999 at 11,416 miles, i complained of vibration when braking. according to the service receipt, the brake rotors were resurfaced. on may 20, 1999, i complained of vibration when braking the mileage at this time was 19,394. according to the service receipt, the front rotors were replaced. again on july 16, 1999, at 26,975 miles, i took my car in for repair a third time for vibration when braking. according to the service receipt, the front rotors were replaced and the rear drums resurfaced. each time the problem subsided for a while but then returned. on september 9-10, 1999, the dealership again attempted to fix the problem. they indicated that they had received a technical bulletin with suggestions for addressing the problem. this time, they replaced the brakes and added some kind of bushings to the steering system. now i am experiencing a continuous low-level vibration at interstate speeds. in addition, on september 16th, 1999, i began experiencing problems with my headlights. when i use my left turn signal, the lights automatically go to bright. in addition, the headlights will not go off when the switch is in the off position.

Abs failure- light is on after car was rear ended. dealer charge me $218 us dollars to tell me that i needed an abs system i was told that all me recall was done. by talking to the dealer none of my recalls was done and i had to bring the car few days letter and lost days of work and the abs is still not fix. they said i have to pay 1000 dollars to fix my car and it is not car accident related. the fact is i did not had any problems before the accident nor i had abs light on. now i cant even drive the car the brakes are very bed rotor is noisy car is vibrate and brakes are down. i suggest since there are 1000 of complaints on abs systems rotors pads and vehicle vibration and safety issues, please investigate this complain. *nm

As long as i have owned this vehicle, i have had a problem with the whole car shaking when i step on the brakes. i took it back to my dealer in oct 1999 and they turned the rotars but the problem continued. i just recently had to have it in because the battery failed and had them check out the brakes while i was there and they said i need a complete brake job. i ask the service manager to check to see if they had been done before and he found they had. he said he would turn the rotars again but i was responsible for the brake pads. the brakes were really tight when i got the car back last week, but now they seem to be getting back where they were. this car is only two years old and already had to have the battery replaced and the brakes. i feel the dealer should have changed the brake pads at no cost to me. after reading all the complaints about these cars the majority are about the brakes. *ak

Automobile pulls to the right side while braking. grinding noise is heard while braking. automobile was taken to savannah mitsubishi on 10-26-98 for repairs. no problems found. i was told that grinding noise is common is abs. on 12-15-98, while suddenly braking to prevent from hitting another automobile, automobile pulled to the right side causing me to hit the curb. impact with curb caused right front tire to blow. a towing service was called to remove wheel. mechanic stated that rust had settled between wheel and axle which made it difficult to remove wheel. since the incident, automobile continues to pull while braking also vibration and grinding noise. prior to incident, on 11-14-98, manufacturer was notified of the problems with vehicle. a representative telephoned on 12-9-98 informing me to continue to take the automobile in for repairs. consumer affairs advised me to make a final attempt to repair with the manufacturer which was done on 12-14-98. they have not yet to respond. manufacturer was also made aware of the incident. no response. per ga lemon law, i have followed all guidelines establishing reasonable number of repair attempts, requesting final attempt to repair and requesting repurchase of automobile. this automobile has proven to be unsafe.( dot number: obv9 tire size: p195/60r15 )

We took delivery of our car on 2/25/99. it was taken into the dealer service dept on 5/12/99 with bad virbration in the steering upon braking. they said the rotors and bushings were bad and replaced them. 2 mos later, back again with same problem. same thing done again to fix. we have taken the car back 5 times for the exact same thing. the problem keeps returning after about 2000 miles each time, they replace the same thing. i have contacted mitsubishi and the dealer pete moore, no response. i am afraid there is something very wrong with this car. i have found on the internet where many other people are having the same exact problem and they also have taken their cars in and the exact same repairs are done over and over. something is wrong here. something that could be very dangerous. no one wants to do anything about it. i believe there is a defect in the manufacture of some of these cars. they can't fix it for good. the problem creeps back within a couple thousand miles. now i know i am not the only one out there with this problem. please, i believe this could be a safety hazard. i am afraid to travel. i am afraid the what if what ever is wrong with this car that they cannot find, what if it breaks. what will happen. will i be able to stop, to steer? will i lose control of the car? something is bad wrong here. i feel this really needs to be checked out. thank you.*ak

At braking, the steering starts to shake. at times i have gone through a red light because the car would not stop, you apply the brake but there is just nothing there, other times because of the shaking , it feels like the car is going to come apart i have taken the car to the dealer for the same problem 4 different times. each time they surface the rotors, and change the pads. but after 2 or 3 days the problem continues. the excuses that i get form the dealer varies from that there is too much heat in florida or that i drive through puddles or even one time they had the odasity of telling me that nor i or my wife knew how to drive and that we were destroying the brakes. in june of 2000 i saw the sal;esperson that sold me the car and he confessed to me that the galant has this problem but that not even the manufacture knows what it is. *ak

I own a green 99 mitsubishi galant and the clear coat is coming off causing my car to look like it has alligator skin it started on the roof and has now spread to the trunk and hood. i called mitsubishi to see if they had any complains about the paint and i was told no. the operator then asked what state i live in and when i told her that i live in texas, she told me that i should have expected to have paint problems with my vehicle because the texas sun is so harsh. i have also been involved in 3 accidents in the vehicle and my airbags have never deployed. i also have a problem keeping wheel cover on all it takes is a slight bump in the road and off they come. this year model also has major problems with the rotors warping. *jb

Front rotors warped at around 15000 miles. at the first incident, i had the rotors turned and bought high quality pads. shortly thereafter, the rotors warped again. i bought another set of rotors, and things were okay for about 10000 miles. afterwards, braking vibration came back. i decided to buy brembo slotted rotors in case the factory rotors were not good enough. i finally found an internet site that had them for this car, but i probably cannot write the name here. i also made sure my tire center did not torque the lugs over 80 foot pounds when rotating the tires. after a rotation, i used my torque wrench to verify proper torque. so far the brembo rotors have not warped. lastly, i have noticed the steering wheel vibrates at highway speeds. tire rotation and balancing does not help.*ak

I leased a 1999 mitsubishi galant on aug 30, 1999, two weeks later i took my car back because of hearing grinding and scrubbing noises when applying my brakes, i was told by a rude service manager that it was brake dust so all they did was clean it out which was a lame excuse, i have been driving and owned cars for more than 15 years, a couple of weeks later the same thing again i was told it was brake dust, about a month after that i made an appointment and went in again and was told i needed rotors and began to tell how much it costs, i argued that point because it is a lease so then they replaced the rotors. i have replaced rotors and/or brakes pads at least every 3000 to 5000 miles since then because i just did not have the time to play the dealers games. it gets so bad that i have to pump the brakes every time and the front end of the car vibrates like it is falling apart especially going down hill, have to start pumping the brakes at the top of the hill in order to stop safely. and to top that off, i called to make an appointment to take my car in again last summer and the dealership has gone out of business. this has gone on wasting my money for over three and a half years, in january of this year i had an accident because of my brakes, i did not have ample time to apply the brakes when another driver pulled out in front of me, thankfully no one was hurt, i had three thousand dollars worth of damage. my question is why does this go on, why has mitsubishi not recalled these cars to correct the problem or are they not able to correct it? do they not have the proper knowledge to locate and correct the problem? does someone have to be seriously injured or killed before someone at mitsubishi gives a damn about the poor construction and possible inadequate parts used in the braking system of these cars?? from what i am able to find out these problem still exist even on the brand new galant's, what is the deal?? *nlm

I have had problem after problem...had rotors replaced 3 mos after purchase, complained of violent shaking numerous times. i was told this was b/c i had after factory wheels that were too big for my car. i learned to live with it. the next thing to occur was a loud noise while driving coming from front end wheels. in june of 2001, i had an a/c idler pulley replaced for $150. as soon as i drove away, the noise presented again. i finally gave up on sitting at the dlrshp for 3 hrs w/a 3 yr old, so i've learned to live with it...yet again. the noise still persists as of 2/02. in may of 2001, i began experiencing electrical problems. to date i've had all recalls svcd. upon the start of my car, the sunroof, lights, anything power, radio, etc., were not in function. i noticed this the first time after pulling away. numerous times thereafter (2x in rain) i started to pull out and turn on my w/shld wipers to realize nothing worked. my temp. fix was to shut off the car and restart again...praying. as of late...i have had my e brake light luminated for about 2 months, for no reason. my oil lamp light would come on here and there. when starting my car now, sometimes my radio will be on but, won't start working and will eventually come in from the back spkrs up to the front. the other temp fix i've found when things aren't working, is to turn the key slightly back toward me and it turns things on. on top of all this...my black weather stripping on top of my car has flown off (clips broke) this happened the first cold w/end of dec 2001. w/in 2 days, both flew off while i was on the hwy. i had to pull off to removed the remainder. and getting to the last but not least stuff...one day last week, my locks would not stayed in the locked position. i would lock all, reverse, turn, do anything and they would unlock themselves, miraculously, the next day it stopped. as of last night, my door ajar lamp is on and remains on & my dome lights -will not shut off.*ak

Problems with the vehicle started two days after purchase, they rotated the rotors on the brakes. since that time i have had the vehicle back seven different occasions. they have replaced the rotors, rotated, you name it and it is still not corrected. i have a three year old daughter that i am scared to death to ride in the car. the dealer has been unresponsive and extremely nasty to us. the owner of the dealer hung up on my wife yesterday. the service manager screamed at me today, and said we have done all we can. they won't return phone calls. i have contacted corporate mitsubishi and they say they will work on the problem. i just completed the paper work for the lemon laws in maryland. i need help with making sure no one else buys a lemon from the dealer, and they don't stand behind their cars. please assist me, in anyway you can. thank you in advance for your time.*ak

Front rotors require resurfacing approx. every 7,000 miles. front brakes also lose stopping efficiency when rotors are warped. this appears to be a safety related design defect justifying a recall. *ak

Vehicle vibrates when brakes applied. took to dealer first time complaining about vibration in dec 1999, less than 6 months after getting vehicle; second time, in march 1999 (rotors found warped, front rotors and pads resurfaced); third time apr 1999 (rotors warped again, front rotors and rear drums resurfaced); forth time jun 1999 (rotors warped again, front left & right rotors replaced this time); fifth time, front rotors turned. electrical problem in oct 1999, all of a sudden no radio, wipers, cigarrette lighter, horn. no problem found by dealer. now vehicle vibrates even without applying brakes, when reaching 55 mph. several calls to mitsubishi customer service have been cordially unhelpful, have not had dealer contact us about problem as they promised in october 1999, over a month ago. no longer have any confidence in this vehicle. *ak

Brakes began making a loud vibrational whining or winding down sound whenever brakes were applied. sometimes the steering wheel would pull if the stop was abrupt. at first visit to dealer, problem was denied. four more subsequent visits resulted in replacement of pads, rotors, and even wheel hubs. last repair was at 19 or 20,000 miles; noise began to return as the vehicle odometer turned 22,000. dealer would not offer satisfaction; i sold the car, suspecting that this would be a recurring problem for the life of the car. i had safety concerns as well as the annoyance of repeated repairs.
