This part has broken probably more than six times. the first couple of times, the truck was towed to a mechanic rather than the dealer, thinking that this was just a small problem. after two visits to the same mechanic, the truck was then towed to the dealer. the first time at the dealer (dobbs bros. mitsubishi-memphis), i was told that the balance shaft was out of balance. $715.78 later (this part is now under a one year/12,000 mile warranty), the shaft fork breaks again. this time, i was told that it was a part failure. 4000 miles later, it breaks again. the truck was at the service shop for more than a week while they were 'checking out what could make this piece keep breaking'. after a thorough check (incl. the manual transmission) and still warranteed, it is fixed. about 4000 miles later, it breaks again. this time, i'm told by the service manager that 'because of the multiple breaks that she could not warranty this part anymore.' i told her that the part continues to break while i'm driving. she stated you must be towing something too heavy or something. (the truck has no bumper accessory). she did offer to perform another thorough check of the vehicle (for about $1100) stating that i just can't keep fixing a part that's breaking like this i would like an investigation into this because this part is faulty and can cause serious injury when it breaks while driving. a person could lose control of the vehicle.*ak

Shaft and fork piece broke in half. this has occured 3 times, 1998,1999 and current. once with the original part and twice with the replacement parts. it is a hazard when driving in motion. you're jolted with tremendous force when it breaks without notice and sudden loss of speed. may cause car following in rear to back end vehicle and create an accident.*ak
