Defect SummaryMitsubishi is recalling 21,493 my 2007-2008 outlander vehicles equipped with led type stop lamps and distributed in the united states and puerto rico. the brake lamp switch may malfunction and cause the stop lamps to not illuminate during brake application.
Consequence SummaryThe failure of the brake lamps to illuminate when the brakes are applied will not provide warning to following traffic and could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the stop lamp switch. the recall is expected to begin during february 2009. owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.
NotesMitsubishi recall no. sr-09-001.customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov .

Defect SummaryMitsubishi is recalling 5,400 my 2007-2008 outlander passenger vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, wisconsin, and the district of columbia. for vehicles without an electric power seat, the floor harness connector for the power seat is placed directly on the floorboard underneath the carpeting (vehicles with power seats already have the harness elevated). if a vehicle occupant enters the vehicle with a sufficient amount of snow on their feet containing road salt, it is possible for the melted snow mixture to soak the carpet and allow the salt-water solution to come into contact with the unused power seat harness connector.
Consequence SummaryThe connector terminal may corrode and allow current to flow, resulting in the gradual heating and melting of the connector and may result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will relocate the floor harness from beneath both the passenger and driver seats to above the carpet and away from the bottom of the floorboard to prevent contact with any future melt solution. the recall began on april 7, 2008. owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.

Defect SummaryMitsubishi is recalling 39,711 my 2008-2009 outlander and lacer vehicles. incorrect material composition of the brake booster check valve may cause the check valve to stick closed when the engine is shut off. when the vehicle is re-started and put into motion, under certain driving conditions (very slow vehicle maneuvers), there may be insufficient initial braking assist.
Consequence SummaryThis may temporarily increase the stopping distance of the vehicle and therefore increase the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the brake booster check valve free of charge. the recall is expected to begin during april 2009. owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.

This vehicle was recalled in 2009 for a failure of the switch which activates the brake lamps. mitsubishi records indicate that we had the switch replaced in march, 2009, along with another recall item. however, throughout the first half of 2011, my wife and i had problems getting the car to come out of 'park', and with the traction control computer indicating malfunctions. on the way to the dealership to have those issues investigated, i followed the vehicle, and noticed that most of the time, the brake lights did not activate when the brakes were applied. the dealership discovered that all three problems were caused by malfunctions of the brake lamp switch, and replaced it. to our knowledge, it has worked correctly since then. however, i am extremely concerned about the failure of the switch. after all, that's a fundamental part of a major safety system, and recall service had been performed which was supposed to prevent that very same premature failure. it is my opinion that an important safety component such as the brake lamp system should not suffer a failure after 3.5 years of service and 60,000 miles. i'm doubly confident that failure should not have occurred after the scrutiny your organization has already applied to this issue. *tr

Mitsubishi is fully aware of problems with electronic keys in new models and would not replace the keys. problems reported by mitsubishi in technical bulletins to dealers are not treated as equipment recalls, even though known equipment defects are reported. for no apparent reason the electronic key to my outlander would not start the engine. the electronic key identified as mistsubishi's f.a.s.t key would not work and it is unknown if the defect can ocurr while the engine is running. when i contacted the dealer, it was explained to me that mitsubishi issues technical bulletins to notify dealers of equipment malfunctions that are not considered recalls but reported defective equipment parts that should be replaced only if the customer complaints about it. i was told that mitsubishi was aware of the problem with the electronic keys for approximately two years but would not recall them and would only replace them after problems were reported. i was told that the key costs about $500 dollars including programming. i consider that mitsubishi could not confirm if the engine would stop during use and therefore all electronic keys should be replaced as they already know of the defect. the dealer replaced the key at no cost only because the technical bulletin reporting the defect was issued, but refuse to provide a copy of the actual technical bulletin. please treat confidential-do not disclose my name.

Mitsubishi outlander '08, paddle shifters are a poorly designed device for shifting gears on an automatic transmission, they are attached to the steering wheel beside the right and left turn signals and the windshield wipers. when you use the normal above two items your fingers automatically involuntarily shift the car into for instance, low gear!!! horribly dangerous device, poor engineering design, trying to soup up a cheap, poorly designed vehicle. the car needs to be recalled immediately! *tr
