| We own a 2003 national dolphin on a workhorse w22 chassis (we purchased the rig new in 2002). we've had repeated problems with the brakes. yes, we've had the recall work performed (twice). but even still, we experience problems with the brakes sticking closed, esp. after extended periods in storage. when this happens, one or more brakes get very hot, there is a terrible smell (as the pads begin to melt onto the rotor), and the coach may pull to one side. sometimes, the symptoms are very slight (such as a brief odor before the brake calipers have worked themselves free). other times, major brake service is necessary (like the $1700 we just paid). our mechanic says that the brake calipers become rusted during storage. we typically travel for a month or two during the summer or fall. and we might take a few additional week-long trips during the year. otherwise, our rig spends a lot of time in storage. we exercise the coach monthly by moving it a couple of feet (to prevent the tires from flattening) and running the genset with a load for about 2 hours. our mechanic recommends driving the coach a few miles during the monthly exercise to prevent the brake problem. our mechanic claims that this problem is very frequent on the workhorse rv chassis, and very infrequent on the ford rv chassis. i noticed that you have an open investigation on the workhorse w20 brakes (pe07032). even though ours is a w22 chassis, and our mechanic does not suspect a hydraulic problem, perhaps our complaint is related. *tr | |||
