Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint due to solder deformation caused by heat stress accelerated by the existence of flux residue during the soldering process.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause the service engine soon warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the crank position sensors. camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). vehicles involved in a previous recall campaign, 01v357, are also included in this new campaign. the replacement sensors used in that campaign are also affected. owner notification began on december 22, 2003. owners should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.

I just bought a pre-owned nissan 2003 350z in august.. oct 5 i had car stall on me twice. i drive a truck for a living so after that i went on the road.. when i came back i drove car and it stalled again at about 35 and then it didn't want to start. i got it started and the service engine light came on. it stalled 2 more times in motion after that and i brought it to nissan.. they wanted to charge me $689. i then took it to my personal mechanics shop who charged me $375 for the same thing with nissan parts.. i go home and find out that there was a recall #r2022 on the 2003 350z nissan.. it shows under the nhtsa that this was a safety issue and could result in crash.. when i called nissan on this they told me my vin doesn't fall under the recall. if this was a safety issued recall then all the 2003 nissan 350z should be under it. i checked online and found lots of other people that had same issues so its a hazard for sure yet nissan is only backing up some of the vins under this safety issued recall... plz help and tell me what i can do to get my $375 back... *tr

The incident first occurred during highway driving where the engine suddenly lost power completely. since the manual transmission was in gear, the engine push started itself with a violent surge motion and regained power. this happened about three times on this trip. when i got off the freeway, this happened as i slowed for a stoplight and the engine stalled completely since i was not in gear. this problem seems to be very dangerous since all engine power is lost at high speeds and the jolt that results from the push starting can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle very easily. this problem happened intermittently but did not cause a check engine light until last week. it is showing code p 0340 and i have found that nissan is aware of this issue, but does not recognize it as a being associated with my vin number- this is hard to believe since my car was produced about a year before the recall notice (recall id #03v455000) was issued. i was informed by nissan representatives that the only way to appeal my vin#'s applicability to this recall is through the nhtsa. my case # with nissan is[xxx]. thanks for your help! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

2003 nissan 350z shuts down in traffic without warning. nhtsa has this car listed on their recall list but the manufacturer says there is no recall on my particular vehicle. i contacted nissan, they told me there was nothing they could do until i had it diagnosed by a dealership. i went to my local nissan dealership and had my car diagnosed and they said it was the cam position sensor which would cause the car to shut down without warning, the service engine light goes on, the tcs light, and slip light, light up after restarting and it takes a few cranks to restart. so after spending $88.00 to have this diagnosis done they still say sorry we can't help you. this is the vehicle that my son drives back and forth to college and as of right now he is walking because we are afraid to let him drive it until it is repaired. do i feel this is a safety issue most definitely! driving 70 mph on the interstate and then all of a sudden shut down with cars behind you i feel is an accident waiting to happen! the car can not be driven like this, every time the car is used it happens more then once. these are the same exact symptoms that the recall lists. this has been happening since 3/25/11 till the present.

I own a 2003 nissan 350z, while driving at approximately 30mph, there was a sudden loss of power, and the check engine, vdc ,and slip lights all came on. engine now runs sluggishly. the error code is p0340, which is crank sensor failure. i feel this is related to the ntsa recall campaign 03v455000, but that campaign only allows for a very small vin range of 2003 350zs. i have read many instances of this failure and situation online. the recall should be expanded to all 2003 350zs.

Hello. my name is rob twietmeyer. i own a 2003 nissan 350z touring edition automotive vehicle. on april 20th 2009, my car started stalling. i was stuck in the middle of cactus and scottsdale rd due to the following defect on the 2003 nissan 350z i own and drive. also, as i was driving the car, lights in the dash such service engine soon and other various lights warned me. i took the car to autozone the next day and they reported code p0340 which means the cam shaft positional sensors were bad. i took the car to the dealer on friday, april 24th 2009, and the dealer would not repair the auto under the 2003 nissan 350z recall bulletin-reference # ntb03-124. i spoke with tim johson at the service dept. at pinnacle nissan of scottsdale and he said this car is not in the recall campaign. i was unclear why he reported this especially when i have solid proof that the car's vin number was in the range of nissan cars that are recalled for this defect. i gave up after tim(the service advisor) could not repair the vehicle under the recall. i had the car towed to my mechanic that day to kelly clark automotive. kelly clark was also unclear as to why nissan would not repair the car under the recall as well. frustration continued further when nissan sales were calling me on the 26th and the following days, bribing me to come to the dealer and reimburse me the cost of the repair that i paid to get the problem fixed, given that i buy a new 350z from them. i felt violated and harassed and could not believe a dealer would have the audacity to ask me to buy a vehicle in order for them to pay for my repair on my current vehicle. (monica in the sales department at pinnacle nissan stated this). the charges for repairs out of pocket that i paid were $454.65 to kelly clark to fix the problem related to the recall. i feel i should be reimbursed for these charges. *tr

The vehicle turned off in the middle of a rainstorm when i was driving on the highway and ended up on the road where i didn't have much of a pull out which could have been disastrous if another vehicle had not been aware due to the conditions on the roadway. the result of this is due to burning of oil which the manufacturer has no idea of what causes this! they just order a consumption test and rarely does what they are supposed to! which is replace the motor as they did in my case but not without a fight!i went to the bbb whom ordered nissan to replace the motor along with other fixes for suspension and window motor but those are separate issues. they replaced motor but it still ended up breaking down again twice after and they don't want to fix! it broke down about 6 thousand miles after the new motor. *jb

Dt: consumer owned a nissan 350z track version 2003. he took vehicle to dealer for recall repair about a year ago. consumer stated it was a recall, however, could not find recall on nhtsa web site. ntb03-046 was the number identifying the recall that consumer had. repair work was done on 6-11-04. then, on july 19, 2005 consumer took vehicle to gardena nissan in california, and they told him that the problem involved front tires wearing out on the inside during repair work they replaced the right front compression rod. consumer contacted nissan, and they told him that after recall and warranty repair work was only good for 10,000 miles. consumer believed that recall repairs did not fix problem, per gardena nissan. six months after consumer bought vehicle when shifting up or down at any speed periodically it will not go into gear. nissan was aware of the situation, and they did not want to do anything about it.*ak

2003 nissan 350z brought in to showcase nissan in bourne, ma with oil light on and no oil pressure. technician put car on lift and drained less than a pint of oil from vehical. inside of tail pipes were oily and black. milage at the time was 14,100. nissan's solution was to do consumption tests at 500 mile intervals which resulted in oil usage of 1/4 to 1/2 quart per 500 miles which nissan claims is normal.*ak

While driving on the freeway my car died out and tcs slip lights came on. there was a loss of power and i had to pull over to the side. while doing so i almost got into an accident because several cars almost hit me and the area that i had to pull over had a very small median. i restarted the car and every thing was fine. the next week the car died out many times while going up a hill on the way to the nissan service dealer. they changed 2 cam position sensors, and 1 crankshaft sensor.

Tl* the contact owns a 2003 nissan 350z. the failure occurred in 2005 while driving 75 mph the vehicle shut off without any warning. the vehicle restarted on its own in 3 to 5 seconds. the failure recurred 4 times during an 18 hour drive. the nissan dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. three days after the vehicle was diagnosed, the failure recurred. the dealer later stated that the heat may have caused the vehicle to shut off. while adding fuel to the vehicle and attempting to start the vehicle, it lost all power and the contact was unable to restart it. the contact opened the hood to observed that there were no wires disconnected and was able to restart the vehicle. the contact is aware of the risk and stated that the electrical system may have caused the failure. in december 2007 the dealer confirmed that nhtsa campaign id number: 03v455000 component: engine and engine cooling, was not related to his vin. the failure mileage was 2000 and current mileage was 35400.

2003 nissan 350z original owner. while driving around 40 mph, engine stalled, twice in 2 hours, check engine light came on. coasted to side of road, waited for maybe 15 minutes and engine restarted both times . i took the car to the dealership, left it with the service manager who drove it home that night to try & recreate the problem. was told if they could not recreate the problem there was nothing they could do. they could not recreate the problem. about a year later a recall was placed for the engine sensors but my vin number was not on the list, so no replacement. it has never happened since then. there was less than 20 thousand miles on the car at that time. *tr

I was driving the car in a rainy stormy night north bound hwy 101 on january 10th 2004 when my 2003 nissan 350z stopped with a huge clunk in the motor compartment and came to a rolling stop to the side of the road where there was not much shoulder space and poor visibilty that night!apparently this vehicle has been burning oil 1qt pr thousand miles! i didnt know this from getting regular oil changes at aroung the 3k marker! kept getting oil consumption test but no corrective action was taken by manufacturer until i went to the bbb! then nissan was forced to replace motor, clutch , tires which ive been having issues long before this ever occured along with the window motors in which the windows kept giving out also! my vehicle broke down again some 1000 miles after the new motor! my car kept stalling at a stop light! i had the vehicle taken to the nissan dealer where i almost had to fight with the sevice rep to get it taken care of under warranty! about 3k miles after the new motor was replaced and installed i had the vehicle taken to get an oil change and the car was almost 3qts low again! yes the car still keeps burning oil!nissan did not want to do anything about it! i kept calling consumer affairs whom kept passing my file around to one rep and another. i finally broke down 3-4 thousand miles later and have been for over a month with a vehicle that does not run and no assurance from the dealer who fixed my motor less than 7k miles ago. this car has been giving me problems since the first few months ive had it. *nm
