Defect Summary | Ride control is recalling certain front strut mounts branded as gabriel ride control or arvinmeritor, p/nos. 142435, 142193, 142305, 142303, sold as replacement equipment for the vehicles listed above. the affected front strut mounts did not contain a weld joint between the bearing housing and the rate plate. | |||||||||||||||
Consequence Summary | The absence of the weld can allow the strut to come out of its mounting position under certain extreme driving conditions which could cause damage to surrounding vehicle components increasing the risk of a crash. | |||||||||||||||
Corrective Summary | Ride control will notify owners of record and replace the affected parts free of charge. the safety recall began on march 15, 2010. owners may contact ride control at 1-248-458-1396. | |||||||||||||||

Consumer states as she was driving toward the freeway, she heard a sound under the vehicle which sounded like the entire bottom of the vehicle had hit the pavement, the vehicle was towed and consumer was told that the coil springs broke in two places, consumer was told by four mechanics that part was defective and this part should not have broken.*jb | |||

This is a coil spring breakage recall situation for 1994 nissan altima. while i was driving headed to the freeway i heard a sound beneath my vehicle. i was stop at the traffic light to take the freeway to my job and as soon as my vehicle made it's way across the intersection i heard a large pop - it felt like the entire bottom of my vehicle had hit the pavement. i immediately signal for the on-coming vehicles to move out of the way so i could pull over and get out. i jumped pout of the vehicle and a police officer pulled right behind me to see what had happen. the vehicle was towed to cricket auto care center in cary, nc who diagnosed the problem as a defect part and all 4 mechanics said that the part should not have broken.*ak | |||
