Defect Summary | Ride control is recalling certain front strut mounts branded as gabriel ride control or arvinmeritor, p/nos. 142435, 142193, 142305, 142303, sold as replacement equipment for the vehicles listed above. the affected front strut mounts did not contain a weld joint between the bearing housing and the rate plate. | |||||||||||||||
Consequence Summary | The absence of the weld can allow the strut to come out of its mounting position under certain extreme driving conditions which could cause damage to surrounding vehicle components increasing the risk of a crash. | |||||||||||||||
Corrective Summary | Ride control will notify owners of record and replace the affected parts free of charge. the safety recall began on march 15, 2010. owners may contact ride control at 1-248-458-1396. | |||||||||||||||

When making turns at low speeds vehicle began to skid on wet slick roads, went out of control. once crashed into curb, causing injury and front end damage. narrowly avoided collision with other vehicles on two other occasions. dealer cannot find problem. | |||

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle was parked in the driveway, the right front coil spring fractured and penetrated the inner sidewall of the right front tire without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop who determined both front coil springs were extremely corroded. the front coil springs were replaced. the vehicle was exposed to excessive road salts and extreme winter weather. the manufacturer was contacted. | |||

Dt*: the contact stated while the vehicle had a tire rotation performed, the tire service dealer determined the rubber boots on the axle spindle had deteriorated. the vehicle was seen by an authorized dealer who confirmed the problem. the dealer replaced the rubber boots on the axle spindle and attributed the deterioration to the heat and humidity. | |||
