Like other customers, my 2002 nissan altima v6 developed a rusted floor board in both the front areas with metals flaking off even at an early time. i didnt realize there were a lot of us having this problem with this model.. this is the only part of the car that is very badly rusted, all of the other parts have barely any rust. i think this is something that really needs investigation.

My 2002 altima, driven by my son, was being checked out for a problem with a bad tire. while up on the lift, the mechanic identified two holes in the floor pan. one is on the driver's side and one on the passenger's side, each at the location of a seat floor mount bolt. not exactly safe. this car will not pass state of pennsylvania safety inspection as is. i have not contacted nissan, as that is most likely fruitless, based on the many comments i've already read on the nhtsa website. nissan obviously has a problem with this design. even if the car is 10 years old, the floor pan shouldn't be rotting away. the state of pennsylvania obviously thinks this is not safe. why doesn't the nhtsa agree? what are you guys waiting for? fatalities?

My car has been burning oil at a very fast rate, the check engine light has turned on, and my gas has lowered. my check oil light has never turned on, not even once in the 2 years that i have owned it.

I own a 2002 nissan altima that has 98,000 miles upon lifting the car the floor board on the passenger side was showing rust on both the driver`s and passenger`s side.it is an excellent car but it is basically trash now.nissan is so irresponsible this is a factory defect and they should recall all altima`s with this problem.toyota is way more responsible when their car`s have a problem they are quick to recall,it is ridiculous.nissan is ridiculous!!!!!

Was driving and the clutch sank to the floor. couldn't get into gear so i had to pull over. once i parked my car, the clutch was completely to the floor. couldn't drive it because the clutch would not get into gear. waited about 20 mins and it came up 1/4 of the way and was able to get into gear. this only happens in the summer and it happens about once or twice every other week and if it happens while it's parked, the car is inoperable.

I had my oil changed and the mechanic told me both front side floor panels are rusted through. after doing research, i have found that many other consumers who drive nissan altima's have the same issue. i spoke with nissan consumer affairs and they are unwilling to help cover the cost to have the car fixed. after reading numerous boards of information i was advised to contact the nhtsa. i feel this is defintely a manufacturer defect on the car and there should be a recall. there are too many cases of rusted out floor boards and it is a saftey hazard. i am hoping you can help me work with nissan in covering the costs of teh repairs which can be expensive. thank you for you time.

I believe that this engine defect caused the pre-catalyst to overheat and damaged the catalyst substrate. these particles entered the combustion chamber and probably scoured the cylinder walls prior to recall 03v-084 implementation. this resulted in increased oil consumption throughout the lifetime of the vehicle which in turn adversely affected the heater system not working properly, coolant reserves disappearing, engine started to heat-up, and ultimately engine seized-up. prior to this i had to be adding engine oil and coolant every two to three weeks since engine would start to make noise and start to heat-up, but there was no leaks or engine light did not turn on. previously, mechanics did not see any problems when taking it for oil changes and service. it is now at the dealership and they state that it will cost me $2100 to $5500 to fix this. i told nissan service personnel that i found the same thing happening to many nissan 2002 owners on the internet. i found several websites with hundreds of complaints just by goggling 2002 nissan altima oil consumption. even nissan service personnel told me that this is not normal since these vehicles should last over the 200 thousand miles, especially since we are the original owners and have always done routine oil changes and service. please help me and the many owners of these nissan altimas who have trusted nissan in building long lasting dependable vehicles.

Bought car in 2009, from a dealership, in 2010 upon obtaining a inspection, was advised that it failed because the flor boards rotting out!!! on passenger side. now drivers side . is nissan doing anything about this????

Blown head gasket determined by mechanic after proper maintenance used on the car for past 9 years. causes loss of coolant, and thus car can overheat and engine will eventually fail. car also hesitates when starting and idling. can cause an accident if car stalls while driving through intersection and thus is a safety issue.

This complaint is a continuation of your investigation pe02078. nissan only addressed a part of the problem by recalling cat converters. however, this did not solve the problem as the engines were damaged causing excessive oil consumption. the problem is all connected but they didn't replaced the engines which has since been upgraded. here's a link to the number of complaints even after the recalled parts were replaced (keeping in mind that not everyone makes a report). http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/altima/2002/engine/excessive_oil_consumption.shtml nissan knew that this problem was connected but they only addressed a part of it. as you review the complaints, you will see that their recall did not solve the problem. some had this excessive oil consumption problem as early as 20-40k miles. i think nissan should replace the engines, along with a new converter and manifold. if the whole thing is not replaced the problem will continue to repeat itself as one part will cause the other to fail. a new engine for this car is roughly $2900 + taxes, manifold $500 installed, not sure of the cost for the converter. i am not bashing the company, i have owned a nissan for 16yrs with no problems other than normal wear and tear. replacing the engine is something they know they should have done but only choose to address a part of the problem. i plead that you investigate this as there are many people upset and angry because they did not get a full and proper resolution from the company. again this problem is directly related to the previous issue. the debris from the cat gets sucked up into the engine and damages the cylinder wall causing excessive oil consumption and eventual engine failure. i had to refill (not add) my car with oil every 200 miles driven.

My daughter had complained of the clutch in her car loosing pressure and basically dropping to the floor, interfering with her ability to shift gears, and it sometimes lurching forward on occasions when this happens. in august 2010, she was sitting at a stop light, in first gear with her foot on the clutch when this occurred, causing the car to jump forward into the back of another vehicle. at the time, i felt that her foot may have slipped off the clutch instead, until it lost pressure again a couple of days ago while driving in the mountains. i started researching on the internet and discovered that many people have had the same problem with this vehicle model exhibiting very similar behavior. when this happens in traffic it's dangerous, because it can lurch by itself or you may not be able to shift into gear to move out of the way of oncoming vehicles, like if you're crossing traffic. it also inhibits the ability to downshift when going downhill. nissan does not recognize this as a manufacturing problem, although many people have badgered the dealerships into replacing the clutch master cylinder and/or slave cylinder under warranty, and nissan has not had a recall for the problem. mine is way out of warranty, so my only recourse is to file a formal complaint so that hopefully others will not become involved in an accident as a result of faulty parts or fluid being used in the clutch system. the general consensus is that the master cylinder is allowing air, and/or moisture, to enter the system, but moreover, the dot 3 fluid that is used seems to be the major factor in the failure, where as dot 4 or 5.1 should be used instead. i have not done any repair to the car since she has it at school, but i will have it fixed as soon as i get it back home.
