I would like to know how the nhtsa and nissan can ignore my complaints and calls that myself and my husband have made regarding my faulty airbags and my seat belts. i was going 45 miles per hour when i struck another vehicle that pulled out in front of me. my seat belts along with my 2 children that were in the car with me at the time didn't lock for them either. my airbags didn't deploy. we suffered from medical issues because of this. my car has been totaled because of the severity of the damages. i would like to know how nissan nor anyone else for this matter will take responsibility for faulty equipment. i'm thinking its time that i might have to take this matter to the media and also the better business bureau. i had put my trust in these manufactures that have failed to protect us as they said they would. yet when it comes down to it they really don't care. can anyone give any other advice

We have been going around and around with nissan about a front passenger seat air bag sensor. (faulty) the only repair that can be made is an entire new seat bottom to the tune of $2,200.00. now i'm ok without the air bag not working at that location, but the indication from the dealership is when there is a fault the entire system shuts down not just the passenger front seat. this to me is a complete design flaw that now jeopardizes the entire car safety system.

My wife was driving at 45mph when a expedition made an illegal left turn in front of her causing an accident. the front of her nissan altima was crushed in with moderate damage according to the police report. her airbags did not deploy nor did the seatbelts lock. my wife sustained whip lash, and bruising on her chest from hitting the steering wheel. she also had both knees hit the front dash board and sustained injuries. my daughter sitting in the front passenger had sprained rists from putting her hands out onto the dash trying to stop from hitting the dash/windshield. my son sitting in the left rear passenger seat had sprianed rists and a sprained shoulder from hitting the front driver seat. spoke to nissan and had the vehicle inspected by their engineers, with information downloaded from the computer and photographs taken. nissan had responded, that the vehcile operated under their standards and no further issues. i can't belive that a vehicle doing 45 mph with moderate front end damage hit an expedtion and the airbags/seatbelts failed to work. however nissan feels that the vehicle performed up to their standards. this matter needs to be further investigated............

The air bag light in my 2005 nissan altima comes on when the car is started and blinks while driving. i had the car repaired back in 2009. the problem is now happening again, so i had an estimate at the nearest nissan dealership. in order to be repaired they said, i would have to show there had been a previous work order in arrange for the repair to be covered under warranty? i called the other nissan dealership where the repair happened and apparently, there is no paper trail the work order actually occurred? the copy of my paperwork shows there was a report and a custom part ordered, but no actual receipt showing this happened. i called the parts department that shows a custom part was ordered, however, it was never returned and it is no longer in the parts department.. so, no one knows seems to know about this mysterious missing part or what happed to the part? i know what happened to the part, it was installed in my car.. so, now i am told a sensor under the passenger seat is bad and needs to be repaired, which is under the passenger seat. it will cost me $1500 to repair. this is the second time this has occurred. i should not have to pay anything. what is more interesting is to find there are other car owners suffering from the same situation. therefore this is not just my car... but a manufacture defect that should be covered under warranty!!!!!! car owner in ca, san bernardino county frustrated.

I failed to stop at a stop sign, and was traveling about 25-30 mph when i collided with a vehicle that hit my passenger side front quarter panel. the crash happened at such a high impact that the passenger side airbag deployed, but the airbag on the driver's side did not deploy, causing me severe bruising and injury. the crash was severe enough that our insurance declared our vehicle a total loss. the airbag should have deployed in this crash, and nissan should be held responsible for these injuries in cases like this. my husband and i purchased this car for many reasons, but the safety from air bags was a primary reason. they failed in my case, and i am concerned that others may have experienced faulty air bags as well from nissan.

I was driving north on the muskogee turn pike around mile marker 9 when i heard a noise. i felt shuttering and looked in the rear view mirrow and saw a large piece of tire flying through the air. i immediately pulled over and changed the tire. all of the tread was missing and the tire was still inflated. this caused over $1,800 in damage to my car and cause me to have to buy a new set of tires.

The air bag light in my 2005 nissan altime comes on when the car is started and blinks while driving. issue was said to be repaired two times now and i still have the same problem. now i am told that a sensor under the passenger seat is bad. it will cost me $1600 to reapair. this is the third time this has occured. i should have to pay nothing due to the time they have wasted and their inability to fix the problem the first time.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving between 25-35 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle came to a complete stop and was rear-ended unexpectedly. the force caused the vehicle to rear-end the preceding vehicle. the air bags failed to deploy due to the massive impact and the driver's seat belt retractor failed to operate. there were no warnings prior to the failure. the driver sustained moderate injuries to the head, neck, and shoulder. there were no injuries to the opposing drivers. the police, fire department, and ambulance were called to the scene and a police report was filed. the vehicle sustained rear body damage and was towed to a collision center. the insurance company was notified of the failure. the vin was unknown. the failure and current mileages were 98,000.

My son was involved in an accident whereby two cars sideswiped each other. the impact was severe, ripping the side view mirror off, exploding the front left tire and damaging the side of my vehicle. the other car's side airbags deployed. mine did not. from the impact my son hit his head on the side window, lost consciousness and lost control of the vehicle, which then hit a tree. the front airbags did not deploy at impact with the tree. the car was declared totaled by the insurance company. after numerous calls to nissan and a 6-week run around by nissans air bag division i was told that there wasn't enough deceleration for the airbags to go off. i have pictures of the damage to the car and i was at the scene. the accident was bad. i was never given any details just a self serving conclusion from nissan after a prolonged period of time. i was also given conflicting information as to when and where the car would be viewed. excuses were made as to why the other vehicle's airbags went off even though nissan never examined the other vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving approximately 35 mph on normal road conditions, the brake, vdc, slip, air bag, and tire pressure warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. suddenly, a chime sounded inside the passenger compartment and automatically stopped without assistance. in addition, the contact smelled a burning odor inside the vehicle the day before the failure. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the air bag harness. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 23,124.

I have had nothing but problems from my 2005 altima that i purchased new in sept 05. the first week i owned the vehicle my engine light came on and the vehicle was very sluggish from takeoff, i then called the dealership where i purchased the vehicle and was told that all nissan are sluggish and need to be driven to get the newness from the vehicle what kind of crap is that. about 6 months ago, i noticed that my brakes are squealing and my tires needed to be replaced, i don't even have 20k miles on my vehicle so this is very mysterious to me. nissan in my opinion does not listen to its customers and claims to be the very best towards their customers on the commercials but in reality they are just another big company making money at the expense of use to be loyal customers. every complaint on this board i can agree with which is sad for i to have experienced the seat belts, sharp bar under the passengers seat, engine and passenger seat air bag light so basically all we have is an expensive good looking non-working pieces of crap. so thank you very much nissan. signed - will never ever ever purchase another nissan in my life. *nm

AIR BAGS - FRONTAL
07/26/201187000
I was driving my 2005 nissan altima north in the left lane of a 2 lane road approaching an intersection (i was alone in the car). an suv was heading south and was stopped in the turn lane to make a left turn. as i was entering the intersection (green light) the suv turned in front of my car. the distance was too short to stop. i hit their right front passenger side by the tire head on. i was driving approx. 30 mph. the damage to my car was to the center front end. the front end was pushed in and the hood buckled. upon impact, my passenger airbag deployed but my driver side didn't. i had a small purse in the passenger seat. the police, tow driver, mechanic and auto assessor all said they have never seen this happen with the airbags. my car was declared a total loss. the damage was too expensive to repair. i was luckly to not be injured. i am very concerned that if the impact was more severe, i had no protection and could have been injured. i have photos of the accident and what was on the passenger seat as well as a statement from the auto repair mechanic saying that he has never seen this situation where the wrong airbag deployed.

Airbag system error light blinking. 2005 model year nissan altima affected by this defect, as researched on internet. dealership stating car not part of voluntary service recall. information follows with website link to voluntary recall information: 2005 nissan altima, maxima; voluntary service campaign air bag warning light on some model year 2005 maxima and altima vehicles, the air bag warning light may flash even though the air bag systems it monitors are operating properly. to prevent this condition, nissan has initiated a voluntary service campaign to replace the passenger air bag status light control circuit which is causing this to happen. website reference: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/knowledgebase/links/371. *tr

While stopped in traffic in sevierville, tennessee on 2/12/2005, my 2005 altima was hit in the rear by a car that failed to stop. the driver of that car was determined to be at fault by police. four vehicles were involved in the accident with my car being the most damaged. police estimated the car that hit me was going approximately 30-35 mph. at impact. the impact drove my car forward into the vehicle in front of me. the rear of my car was destroyed and the front impact was hard enough that the radiator was burst and front suspension members and the hood were crumpled. at no time during the accident did either of the front air bags in my altima deploy! however, the seat belts did lock in position and probably saved us from more serious injury. injuries for those in my car (four people) consisted of cuts, scrapes and bruises accompanined with soreness. since it is only two days since the accident, there may be other possible problems arise. i thought air bags were suppose to deploy in cases such as this? i note from research that nissan has had numerous complaints and problems with their air bag failures. something needs to be done to stop this!*ak

I own a 2005 altima for almost two years now. i have never had a problem with my previous nissan. however, i am having a problem with the passenger side air bag light. when i sit in the passenger seat, the air bag light stays on. i am 5'4 and weigh about 104 lbs. i have complained to autoway nissan (tampa, fl) twice about this problem. in order for the light to go off, i have to jump around in my seat several times until the light goes off. sometimes the light goes off and other times it doesn't. when the light goes off, most of the time it comes back on after 10 minutes or so. the service department at autoway nissan has not been able to find a solution, only telling me that it is a weight sensor that picks up at 100-110 lbs and that it can not be calibrated. i have even contacted nissan and started a file with them. it has been two days now, and i have not heard back from them. it doesn't make any sense for that sensor to pick up on weight only. my husband's '04 accord's sensor goes off when i sit in his passenger seat. i know i'm comparing apples with oranges, but you would think nissan would have taken this into consideration when building the vehicle. *nm

New 2005 altima 3.5 se bought august 2005 1st month i had noticed a vibration in the steering at high speeds, and the vehicle pulling/drifting from left to right. this concern makes the vehicle unsafe to drive because you do not have a sense of control when driving, in addition when driving on a highway for a long period of time the vibration in the wheel makes your hands and arms fall asleep. it is always necessary after an hour or hour and a half to pull over and give your arms/ hands a rest. the dealer addressed this concern by balancing the wheels by road force balance (corrected specs - 21lbs road force down to 7lbs) no alignment issues were noticed. after 3 tips to the dealership for the vibrations i had noticed a clunk in the front end, it ended up being a strut that needed to be replaced. with the next trip the dealership the vibration in the steering was now evident at all speeds, it was still drifting, and a new hum had developed at random times while driving. the dealer unable to verify any of my concerns suggested that i go for a ride with the service manger. after that ride he suggested that i have my tires swapped for new ones of another brand. on my next trip to the dealer they swapped all 4 of my tires for another brand name and re-aligned the front suspension and front end. throughout the winter the car ran ok other than some electrical problems that would kill my battery and the rear pillar airbags coming out. it was not until the spring that i was forced to bring my car down again for the vibration in the steering wheel and the clunk in the front end. the dealer could not verify any clunk in the front end but agreed that there is again a vibration and remedied the problem by adjusting the steering rack pre-load. initially the vibration was reduced, but within a month it was back. the service manager admitted that adjusting the steering rack pre-load was only a temporary fix a bandaid for the problem. *jb
