Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor.
Consequence SummaryIf the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will reprogram the ecm free of charge. certain my 2006 altimas which have been previously remedied under recall campaign 06v223 (nissan r0606) are not included in this recall since the reprogramming for 06v223 also included this reprogramming. the recall began on december 31, 2007. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

I have a 2005 nissan altima that i bought in 2008 and has had nothing but problems, first had to replace the steering knuckle because the steering was going out ($400) than had to replace the motor mounts, struts, inner/outer tie rods, i have no heat when at idle, while putting new tires on again, i also learned my floor boards are almost rusted through, and now i can not even drive my car because about 3 weeks ago it started sucking down oil ( 4 qts within a 3-6 hour time frame) and it's smoking bad out the tail pipe because of the head gasket/piston rings caused by a faulty pre-cat, and told i need to replace the engine. i see there is a recall for the 2.5l engine for this issue but on a 2006 model, what about my 2005 model with same engine?? searching the internet i find hundreds if not thousands of people having this same issues in 2002-2006 altima's, obviously there is a problem with these engines and nissan should be held accountable!! *tr

While driving in the highway vehicle lost power and engine shut off, was barely able to get to the side of the freeway before the car came to a complete stop. it was the most scary experience i have ever had in my life. the ses light came on only after loosing all control. i was told at the shop that this is a common issue with some altimas and that they had a recall.

My 2005 nissan altima 2.5 4 cyl qrd25 engine has had constant problems including excessive oil consumption which lead to cylinder 1 throwing a rod. researched this problems and found 1000's of other people with the same problem. purchased a replacement engine with 60,000 miles and the same thing is happening. no oil leaks, just uses a quart of oil/per 60 to 100 miles. nissan is aware of this situation and has replaced several engines. i see that they are now offering an extended warranty but does not wish to help. would like to participate in a class action lawsuite if one has begun.

Rattling noise in engine, unusual engine vibration and muffler sound coming from engine. this can be dangerous this screw is located in the engine and could cause $7500 dallors of damage. if this screw was to come loose it could ruin engine compressor, destroy the exhaust manifold, o2 sensor and power valve plates. i search to see if there was a recall on this and it seem to be or talk of it. call dealership to see if a recall was issued. some website suggest there was one, what has happen to qualtiy products. if there was one they are not upholding it. recall should never expirer, for public safety,

After 20 min or so of idling in traffic, then a 10 minute freeway drive at legal speeds i was approaching the off ramp and the clutch went to the floor, no hydraulic pressure. i was able to move out of the way of traffic without incident and pull over. after 10 min of talking to my insurance company for a tow, i noticed partial pressure restored and drove slowly home. now, with research, i have seen this is extremely common and dangerous. too many complaints have been filed online and with nissan, yet there is no resolution and what's worse, no specific answer to the problem. i hope nhtsa doesn't wait for a serious injury or death to occur before this is looked into, a google search of altima clutch recall brings up over a dozen forums with numerous complaints of the same problem. *tr

I bought a car, sold as is, because the dealership advertised the car saying everything under the hood is in perfect working condition. this was my first time buying a car and they took advantage of it. the car is missing 2 lug nuts on the front driver side, and back passenger side wheel(i don't know how the car passed inspection) it was sold to me with no transmission fluid, when i put some in it began to leak badly(i have pictures) the very next day after purchasing the car i noticed a knocking noise in the engine and everytime i started the car it began to shake for about 10 seconds. everyday the cars engine would make new noises, by day four the car wouldn't start. day five it started up but it was overheating within 5 minutes of being on(i didn't know how to read the hot/cold gauge yet being that this was my first car) i tried taking it back but the dealership will not take it back. i took it to a mechanic, they said the transmission is leaking severly, the head gasket is overheating and its warped 4.0.. its missing lug nuts, the brakes are bad, and has moisture in the oil. i stopped driving the car unless it was a emergency and while i was on the freeway oneday, the car began to shake violently and started to jump back n forth and i couldn't press the gas because it would not go. i could have been killed on the freeway. i just recently took it to another mechanic shop called arrow's transmission. they declared the entire engine a total fail and unsafe. *tr

Make: nissan model: altima model year(s): 2005 nhtsa campaign id number : 07v527000 component: engine and engine cooling my car started having problems and it would not pass inspection because of the engine light alert. the reason was due to the crankshafts which i replaced but kept having the problem. the mechanic suggest to look up any outstating recalls and i found the above campaign which describes my problem exactly. all i need to do is take it to the dealer to reprogramm the ecm. the dealers states that my car is not part of the recall and want to charge to get it reprogramm. why should i pay for a manufacture defect when there is an oustanding recall on this problem. the cars has no other problems and the only reason why it won't pass inspection is because of the problem described above. i don't see why this should be and i need a recall notice to take to the dealer to get the car ecm programmed. or do i have to be involved in anccident before the problem can be corrrected. thank you

Cam shaft sensor failure. similar in function to the recalled crankshaft senor, the cam shaft part can stall a car, or prevent frrom restarting due to overheating. it also is vital to engine timing and other itmes which pertain to engine performance. sept 12, 2011 67000 miles replaced this the second time in under 3 years part needed to be replaced. why is this not a recall like it's crankshaft counterpart

My service engine soon light came on and i later noticed that the engine was hard to start. while driving on the freeway there were two incidents where the motor almost died - i called and made an appointment with my local nissan dealership. meanwhile, i looked up any recalls for my year and model and there was one on the crankshaft position sensor from 2007 and i also noticed numerous complaints about this same issue. the dealership diagnosed a problem with this sensor and they replaced it but they also told me that my vin was not on the recall list. i had to pay for the repair myself. i called nissan and they won't do anything about it, stating that the recall was issued based on where the car was manufactured. the part failed regardless of where the car was assembled. i think nissan should consider expanding this recall to include all models involving this problem. this is a safety issue.

I was driving my car on the highway, steadily progressing at 65mph. the car shuddered, even though i hadn't changed my acceleration (or anything else). i dismissed it as a fluke and ran an errand. when i tried to start my car after i exited the store, the car wouldn't turn over in a timely manner. after several attempts, the car finally started. this happened two more times before i was able to take it in. i took it to my usual mechanic, who checked the car out and told me about the outstanding recall on cam/crankshaft sensor programming. i took it to a nissan dealership (fenton nissan, 8800 northwest expy, oklahoma city, oklahoma), who told me that they would do the recall, but that i had to have new cam/crankshaft sensors installed first or my computer would burn up. i called my mechanic who said that he had checked my sensors and that they were fine. i told the dealership this info, and they restated what they had said before. i then said that i would just have the installation done by my mechanic. the dealership told me that my guy would just mess up the job, and that they would have to replace any sensors he would install, so it would be in my best interest to just have the dealership do the work. he then insinuated that regardless of what i did, the dealership wouldn't perform the recall without the dealership installing new sensors. i got both the sensors and the recall performed by the nissan dealership. after the recall was performed, the car was still not performing correctly, so i took it back to the dealership, who did the recall programming again, and the car has been running well ever since. my complaint is that the nissan dealership forced me to have extra work done, even though my sensors were good and the recall doesn't specify that sensors have to be replaced before the recall is performed.

My 2005 nissan altima has the same problem with the crankshaft position sensor. my car is not on the recall list. i was just wondering why my car is not on the recall list? is nissan waiting for an accident to happen first? i went out today to start my car and now it won't start at all. my check engine light came on and it was reading the troubleshooting # p0335 which is the crankshaft sensor. i spoke to a nissan rep. yesterday and she refused to help me out if did not go to a nissan dealer to have my car checked by them. sorry, i don't have that kind of money. there are places that do it for nothing now. i think you should look into this problem. i do fear driving my car now. please look into this problem for all of the nissan owners.

Approximately a month ago, while driving my car i heard a whining sound coming from the engine upon acceleration of the vehicle. the sound would stop when i took my foot off the gas pedal. i took the car to my local mechanic to have it checked out. he took all the belts surrounding the engine off (the drive belt etc.) to see if the sound was related to a defect in one of the belts; the sound persisted and he said it was coming from the timing cover. my mechanic said that he has seen this problem before with the nissan altima so i decided to file a complaint.

The problem occurred on a nissan altima, with a 2.5 l engine. the vehicle, surges sputters and loses power at highway speed. when it occurrs it results in a fault code relating to the crankshaft position sensor. the vehicle was recalled to reprogram the electronics because of a similar problem, several years ago, but i was told by a mechanic the problem lies with the old style crankshaft sensor, which has since been redesigned. i understand a similar problem is common with the camshaft position sensor which malfunction. the car bucks, surges, sputters and loses power, which can result in an accident, as it most frequently occurred at high speed. i understand the same problem can cause the car to be hard to start, which has also occurred on several occasions. i replaced the crankshaft sensor and the problem has not (yet) reoccurred. however, this is a $300 dealer fix. they will reporgram, but not replace ths sensors free of charge.

I have a 2005 nissan altima. on my way back home on the highway, my check engine light came on. i took it to the dealership to get it checked out. they said my crank sensor is faulty. now this was a common problem for 2002-03 altimas, but the 2004-2006 altimas are known to have this problems. i have been reading reports on consumeraffairs.com and it seems like every owner of a 2002-2006 nissan altima is having this problem. nissan is aware of this problem but refuses to do anything about it (according to other consumers that complained to nissan). as a consequence of this failure, the car can stop in motion. several of the consumers had their cars stop on the highway which can be fatal. the only symptoms are jerking and shaking of the car followed by stalling. the repair costs around $250, but it is not a guranteed fix. many consumers had them happen numerous times, and had to fix them with their own money every time. i hope nhtsa takes proper action against nissan and force them to acknowledge their mistake and issue a recall. thank you.

2005 nissan altima - crankshaft sensor. my 2005 pre-owned nissan altima just experienced crank/start problems yesterday. after computer diagnostics were performed, they discovered that the ecm and the crankshaft sensor were defective. the dealership informed me that the 2005 nissan models had a recall on the ecm modules and the crankshafts. they advised me to contact nissan to ensure this had not been previously corrected during the original recall. i contacted nissan to find out that it had never been corrected. nissan rep divya cheeran advised me that the ecm and frame were on recall however the crankshaft was not. i informed her that the dealership had already informed me of the recall for the crankshaft. she insisted the dealership was wrong and there was no recall of any crankshaft on any nissan vehicles. i told her that i was looking at a consumer affairs report on the internet as well as the report/recall notice with national highway traffic and safety administration. she still refuted the fact that there had been any recall on the crankshafts for the 2005 nissan altimas. however, she advised me to take my car into the nearest dealership (sheehy nissan in springfield, va) to have the ecm and frame fixed. she stated that once the ecm was fixed it would resolve the cranking and shutting off problems i was experiencing. i advised her that the mechanic at the dealership had already confirmed that would not remedy the problem with the crankshaft and i would like for nissan to acknowledge the recall and fix the ecm and crankshaft. it was public knowledge and record that there was a known problem with this and could be potentially hazardous to my health and the health of my newborn who frequently travels with me. i advised her that $200 to fix the crankshaft should be nothing to nissan as opposed to me filing a lawsuit with them if any harm came to me or my child due to this hazard. can you please assist me with getting my car fixed?

On the 2005 nissan ultima 2.5 liter engines the crank shaft positioning sensor fails prematurely resulting in loss of power to the engine. the engine stalls out at speeds above 65 mph placing the driver and passengers in grave danger of a rear end collision which could result in the death or injury to the occupants. this was extremely dangerous in louisville, kentucky on interstate 65 with a huge population of tractor trailers moving north and south on i65. nissan has failed to acknowledged this safety issue. i challenge you to conduct a google search and find numerous consumer complaints about this safety issue. many consumers have contacted nissan but it appears they are unwilling to acknowledge this potential deadly safety issue. i would ask you asthe agency responsible for safety to force nissan to do the right thing and make this a mandatory recall. its unfortunate nissan is playing the same game as toyota and someone must act on this safety issue now before someone is killed!!! *tr

2005 nissan altima recall campaign 06v-223. *nj the consumer received a recall notice regarding an issue with engine stalling. he took the vehicle took the dealer to have the recall taken care of and after waiting nearly two hours, the electronic control module was reprogrammed to prevent stalling of the engine in the event of a signal interruption from the crank angle sensor. the consumer was reassured that the problem was fixed and didn't need to worry about the engine randomly stalling. on november 19, 2009 the vehicle shut off without warning while driving on a busy street. the consumer was able to steer the vehicle safely to the side of the road. he made several attempts to re-start the vehicle, but to no avail. the vehicle was towed to a mechanic's shop, and a diagnostic test determined that the crank shaft position sensor and the camshaft position sensor were defective and caused the engine to shut off. the consumer is seeking reimbursement of the monies that were spent at the mechanic's shop in the amount of $315.33. the reprogramming of ecm did not fix the problem as the dealer originally stated. *jb

2005 nissan altima - when going up a grade the vehicle dies. this has happened a number of times on tioga pass, on the bay bridge, on hwy 46 in the fog, on the 580 ect. mechanic indicates that the computer code is p2135 - throttle position sensor, mechanic states the throttle body needs to be replaced. hopefully this will be covered under my extended emission warranty. i'll be driving at 65 miles an hour and sometimes when going up a hill the car will die, the lights and radio stay on but their is no power. i have to put on my hazard lights and get over to the shoulder put it in park and restart the car. a number of times this happened in very dangerous situations like on the bay bridge where there isn't room to pull over. last night i was on ca 46and it was very foggy. the car died and there was no shoulder to pull over on. i had to stop in the lane and restart the car, in the dark and fog, on a curvy and busy hwy. my mechanic indicates that this problem has been an issue with nissan altima's. no recalls/mandatory fixes have been issued. i'm looking at a $544 repair bill. i have to take it to the dealership to see if it might be covered under the extended warranty. i don't have the vin # because the car is in the shop. i can get that info tomorrow if you need it. *tr

We have 2005 nissan altima with the 2.5 motor, cars engine light came on and we took it to our mechanic and he said it was the crankshaft sensor, and told me about the recall. i took my car to the nearest nissan dealer, and all they told me there was a recall on the ecm, and that was all., nothing about the crankshaft sensor. i told them about it and they said my car was not under that recall. how can that be when there is a recall for that year, that model, and that motor. i even called a nissan rep; and he told me the same thing. i had to had to have my car that weekend so i took it back to my mechanic and he replaced the sensor and we haven't had any problems since. i think i got

There are several problems : - vehicle loses engine power on highway (cruise set to 65, droops to 55 and then picks up again) - vehicle has stalled at traffic lights - vehicle has trouble starting after being turned off for a short (less than 30 mins) period of time. the problem was diagnosed by meineke as a failed crankshaft position sensor. a recall affecting this car (07527000) was issues by only to fix the ecm, not the sensor which was affected as well. i have several other examples of sensor failures on the make and model of this vehicle. i am currently waiting for the part to be replaced and arguing with nissan to make the replacement free of charge. *tr

While driving at low speeds the car is cutting off completely. this happened twice and then i took the vehicle into the dealer. the vehicle has approx 84,00 miles. the check engine and brake lights come on but there is no power to the vehicle. after waiting a few minutes the car will start back up. this happens without notice and you do not have time to pull over. after taking car into dealer i was informed that the crankshaft needed to be replaced at a cost of over $300. there is a recall to have the crankshaft reprogrammed but it does not cover replacement. *tr

My 2005 altima was recalled because the crankshaft position sensor (cps) gets hot, fails to send signals to the engine control module (ecm) fast enough, so the ecm shuts down the engine, increasing the danger of being involved in a traffic accident (nhtsa campaign id number: 07v527000 ). in june, my car stalled on the highway. i towed it home and discovered via a code reader that the cps failed, and by google & the nhtsa web site that this was part of the recall id'd above. the remedy is to reprogram the ecm. i made an appointment with the dealer who originally sold this car when new, and dropped off the car. the next day the nissan dealer left me a self-serving and deceptive message (that i can send you in audio format or transcribed to text) insinuating that along with the free remedy (reprogramming the ecm), the cps had been replaced for $257. i stopped by the dealer to discuss this, and to my relief (since the recall remedy didn't require this $257 repair) the cps had not been replaced. however i experienced the same failure the next hot day. nissan's ecm reprogramming remedy had no effect - the engine stalled and the code reader again said cps failure. i opened a file with nissan usa consumer affairs, who assigned a rep. the rep. first spoke with the dealer, then called me and refused to pay to replace the cps (a $37 part). why doesn't this recall include replacing the cps (nissan's recommended fix, when the ecm reprogramming fails)? this partial recall is problematic because it's: #1 almost free for nissan (no parts, minutes of labor) #2 in my case ineffective, causing no cessation of accident risk (a common problem, i'd bet) #3 limited to only one of the 2 failing parts in a closely integrated failure pattern #4 an effective loss leader - bringing customers to their garage, allowing nissan to make money (e.g. replacing the $37 csp for $257) #5 hard to verify (no visible new or old parts to prove they did the ecm reprogramming). *tr

I own a 2005 nissan altima 2.5 and in nov of 2009 there was a recall on this car due to a ecm reprogram(crankshaft position sensor code r0712).on june 27 i was driving my car and when i went to turn the corner at 10mph the car shut off,it restarted back up rite away so i thought nothing of it.however the next day it happened again and it didn't restart right away.on monday june 29th i called nissan and made an appointment.i took my car in to nissan of hayward ca on june 30th at 8:30am described the problem, the guy told me that my car was not affected in the recall(which i knew was untrue) but that there was a upgrade that had to be done on the cars computer but that it mite not fix the problem, because he thought it could be the crank shaft position sensor.after the reprogramming was complete i was informed that there were no other codes that came up and that reprogramming the ecm fixed the problem and that everything should be ok.unfortunately i was driving my husband to work and soon as we were taking off from the light the car shut off again and did not restart for 10 minutes.nissan reprogrammed the computer in my car and probably in many other 2005 nissan altima's however just like in my case reprogramming theses computers isn't enough because obviously it doesn't solve the problem. i was sold a defective car and i feel like nissan should take more concern and responsibility than just reprogramming the computer when it clearly isn't fixing the very dangerous problem that these vehicles impose. this is a serious problem to my family and others as my car is just shutting down without warning. something needs to be done on behalf of nissan to ensure that this problem is assisted in the proper manner. *tr

Nissan altima 2005 experiencing problems shutting off while driving - according to www.nhtsa and multiple other sites this is a problem covered by nissan recall 07v527000 - we took it to gwinnett place nissan for repair - they said this and another sensor are bad but not covered under recall - then charged me $125 for diagnostics to determine this is the problem when i explained to them exactly what was happening and showed them the recall information. he says this car vin not covered under recall, but according to recall description it is covered and this is the exact problem caused by the issue. when a car stalls out while driving, it can lead to very serious safety issues putting the driver and others at risk of death or serious illness. this is a very serious problem. he told me it would cost me over $400 to repair and that they would apply the $125 diagnostic charge to the repair if we opted to have it done. service advisor listed on bill as c. mark wyatt *tr

Nissan altima 2005. the vehicle had stalled a few times in the past under slow speeds. ie backing up or drifting forward. noticed that the check engine light came on and brought it into a service station. code was crankshaft position sensor. part was really pricey so i checked online and found recall, or so i thought. nhtsa campaign id number: 07v527000, seemed to apply to the problem. nissan said no it did not. would like to file complaint about not only the problem, but also the lack of support in a clearly recalled item repair. i do not have the vin's affected, but the fact that almost 700,000 vehicles are affected and mine just happens to have the same issue is ridiculous. i would just like my car covered like the other 700,000 that have the same issue. *tr thanks, tim

There is a defect in a significant number of v6 equipped nissan vehicles my 2004-2007. nissan has issued a service bulletin ntb07-042 describing the issue and solution. poor engineering and manufacturing defects lead to issues that can cause the secondary timing chains on these vehicles to fail. the problem does not become apparent until after the warranty has expired, i.e. after 60,000 miles of service. repair requires the engine to be removed from the vehicle and torn down to replace these parts. parts include the secondary timing chains and chain tensioners. nissan is refusing to support their customers in regard to these repairs. cost to perform the repair will run between $1800 and $2200 per quotation by my dealer. timing chain failure would likely cause catastrophic engine damage. should such failure occur under highway conditions, serious accidents with concomitant injuries would likely result. while i have not had an accident, i am deeply concerned that nissan is taking no action to address this potentially serious issue affecting a significant percentage of their fleet for these model years. in normal service, the vehicles in question are now reaching the point where this problem will begin to manifest itself. *tr

I had no problems with my car until this recall was repaired - nhtsa campaign #07v527000 engine and engine cooling - 2005 nissan altima -- on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. if the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash. dealers will reprogram the ecm free of charge. my car was part of this recall. since the reprogramming was completed my car started having slow acceleration and jerks while engine tries to upshift. it began to not crank at all. after several attempts it finally would. this happens very often and i never know if my car will start. nissan could not diagnosis since my engine light wasn't on. the problem has increased to the engine cutting off by itself and just now the engine light has came on. i am taking it in for diagnosis tomorrow but can see that i am not the first to have these serious problems. nissan needs to replace the ecm instead of reprogramming since it did not resolve the problem. i am fearful that an accident will result from these problems. *tr

My 2005 nissan altima started stalling at low speeds and the engine began jumping at acceleration. apparently, i had a recall on the crankshaft sensor. i took the car into thornhill nissan in fort worth, texas and they said they would reprogram the ecm. the next day the sel came on and the car started all over again with its problems. when i called dalene vasquez at thornhill nissan she stated that the sensor was not part of the recall and that it would cost me $200 to replace. through my own independent research i find that this has been a known problem since their 2002 models and they won't replace the $40 sensor. *tr

In june of 2008, i received a notice in the mail regarding a recall on the engine cooling of the 2005 nissan altima 2.5l engine. i took my car in the to local nissan dealership in lubbock, tx and the issue was supposedly corrected. i had never had any issues with my car until after this repair was done. i went to pick up my car and right afterwards my check engine light came on and has remained on since then. i called over to the dealership and was advised that it was ok for the service engine light to be on and not to worry about it. soon afterward my car began to have trouble cranking. i would go several days without wanting to crank at all and also it would take a while to turn over if it was cranking. about two days ago my car would not crank once again. i let the car sit until the next day and attempted to crank it again. the car still would not crank. i got the car towed back to the nissan dealership and was advised that the issue was, as others previously stated, the crankshaft and camshaft that needed to be replaced. asked if the crankshaft would be my responsibility and was advised that it was because the crankshaft was mentioned in the recall but not specifically covered to be repaired by the recall. i was advised that those two repairs will be $208.00 to repair plus taxes and that there was no way to repair it free because it was not specifically stated that these issues would be free under the recall. i called the nissan usa number and asked for a resolve. i asked for the repairs to be paid by them because the recall was supposed to prevent this very problem from occurring however instead of preventing the problem, the repairs caused the problem to start. they refused to pay for the fees and told me that i would need to pay the bill and then submit the bill to them for research to see if they could do anything about reimbursement. the fee should not be my responsibility because nissan refuses to take ownership of the problem. *tr

I have an altima 2005, several months ago i received a letter saying that all certain models that came out of the company, came with an affect on the engine. before i receive the letter by then i already had by car taken to fix it, so i paid. now on this month september 16, 2008 i went to the service department and first i did not like the way they attended me, second they wanted me to charge me 100 dollars just to check if it was the problem that said in the paper and if it was. it was going to be free or otherwise if it came with something else that's when they were going to charge me with that amount. now my complain is why am i going to pay 100 . if it was not my fault that it was the manufacture of the car. i did not paid 25 grand. for nothing. now i would like that problem to be fix without charge because it's not my fault that the car, came out with a problem from the company. please answer to my complain and help that i need to get this fix, but without charge. thank you! *tr

My car was running fine until i got in my car one day and it would barely crank. it took it a minute, but it finally did. that happened several times. then, while driving to work, my car shut off in the middle of the highway, while driving. this is extremely scary and i am not understanding why this is happening. my local nissan dealership will not look at it because my check engine light is on. well, my light didn't come on until this started happening. what is happening to my car fits the description of the recall to a tee. i have gone to a mechanic shop and they have told me that being what is wrong with my car will make the check engine light come on. my complaint is that the dealership will not look at it or fix it because of the check engine light. this needs to be fixed and hopefully soon. i carry young children in my car and its the only mean of transportation i have. i don't need something to happen while doing this. thank you for your time. *tr

I took my nissan altima in for repair for the recall on it in jan 08 and when i picked up my car i cb the next day and advise them that my car was not running correctly, it has continue to get worst i was able to get my car in for repair on aug 20 because my car stalls while my car is in motion and the engine light keeps coming on and off. they call me back on 8/22 and said that it was the speedo cluster and it has been fixed charged 420.00. 2 weeks later my service engine light is back on and my car is still stalling. i feel as if my car is going to cut off while i'm on the interstate and cause a accident or worst my life. when i took my car back to them and they will not take responsibly for not fixing my car correctly they said that the computer is saying something different now that what the computer said 2 weeks ago but i advise them that i did not bring my car there for an experiment it was taken there to fix the stalling and its still do the same thing. i asked them for my money back so i can get my car fix else where. sheehy nissan of glen burnie also says that they think it may be my crank sensor but this is why i took my car in for the recall because of everything that is now happening with my car. i pull up history on the nissan altima and a lot of customer are having the same problem after they take it in for repair on the recall the engine light and stalling happens with your vehicle. this is a very serious issue and they are taking it likely. it started out stalling around once or twice a week now its doing it everyday and the light is constantly on. *tr

Before i got the recall letter from nissan about my computer chip, my car would die while it was running, it was hard to start it, and i kept having this crankshaft sensor problem i had to replaced it twice already, i finally got my computer reprogrammed today july 1st 2008.. came back home and thought everything was okay.. and what do i know it comes on again my service engine light... took it to the auto shop said it was my crankshaft again...i had to replace 2 crankshafts on the same week.. and now i have to replace it again... i was reading people's forums about how they were have the same problems before and after the recall reprogramming.... we're all have the crankshaft sensor and camshaft sensor problems... but nissan is going to charge us alot of money to get it replaced... i heard it's been a problem ever since 2002 so why hasn't it gotten fixed? we shouldn't be paying for another defect that it seems like no one wants to admit to or even take a look into it at least....anyways does it need to take a person to die or to be injured in order for this problem to be fixed..... that's just not right.... thank you *tr

I purchased a 2005 nissan altima in 2006, and in 2007 i started having trouble with the car just stopping when i was driving, this has happened several times, thank god i have not had any serious injuries because of this. my mechanic stated that this was a problem with something dealing with my engine computer resulting in circuit malfunction with my crankshaft, and engine speed sensor, the problem with the crankshaft resulted from me having to restart my car after just stopping on me. i don't feel like i should have to be responsible for repairs if there has been a recall on the very part of this vechicle that has resulted and lead up to the problem that i am having at this time. i have mentioned this to nissan and explained the problem that i am having, and seems to me that the company is just trying to get out of their responsibility of the mistake that was made when building this vehicle. the recall letter clearly states that if the dealer fails, or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, i may contact the national consumeraffairs department. thank you for you time in this matter, and hope that it can be resolved in a timely matter.

The check engine soon light came on my vehicle on monday so i contacted the nissan dealership and made an appointment, at which time they told me it would cost $99 to do a diagnostic test. on wednesday, i received in the mail a recall notice on the vehicle that had to do with the engine. on thursday i contacted the dealer and they stated that they would have to perform the diagnostic test for $99 first and then do the recall inspection because it did not have anything to do with the engine light being on. however, it seems that since the recall is free, they should do that first and then perhaps that actually is the problem. i feel that the recall, having to do with the engine, might be the cause of the light turning on. i like having my vehicle serviced at the dealer where i purchased it, but feel they are not being forthright about the recall situation. *tr

I recently took my 2005 nissan altima to a local dealership for a tsb. the car was stalling at low speed. the tsb said the crank sensor would overheat and would not allow the ecm to read the sensor. the dealership reprogrammed the ecm, but told me i had to buy a new sensor, which i did. i believe the problem is created by the design/positioning of the sensor, causing it to overheat. i feel nissan is charging to make repairs on a tsb at the expense of nissan owners. *tr

The car would suddenly stop while driving almost causing fatal accidents. car was taken to nissan to have a recall fixed for this exact problem. nissan stated they would not reprogram the ecm under the recall until the crankshaft position sensors were replaced and was charged 350 dollars for parts and labor. the recall stated the sensors could overheat and cause brief interruption to the ecm and cause the car to stall. if the sensors are causing the problem why are they not recalled as well? further review online shows the original sensors were made from plastic and could crack and leak oil onto the sensor causing them to fail and the new revised ones are made from metal. *tr

2005 nissan altima 2.5s has left my wife stranded for hours because of a faulty crankshaft position sensor (engine code p0335). this faulty part has also disabled the car while driving on busy streets. as a result, we have been unable to trust the reliability of this vehicle and have rendered it completely unusable. the dealerships service department has performed a reprogramming of the ecm as required by a recall notice issued on december 10, 2007. this did not remedy the condition. there exists a recall that requires dealerships to replace the crankshaft position sensors on 2002 and 2003 nissan altimas, but not for a 2005 nissan altima, which apparently suffers from the same problem. this is unacceptable. there is little to no difference between these model year vehicles as far as engine components are concerned. please extend the recall notice so that owners of 2005 my nissan altima 2.5s vehicles may also have their crankshaft position sensors replaced to prevent dangerous accidents from occurring. *tr

My 2005 altima was failing to start normally. i took it to my local mechanic to find out why. after some searching my mechanic found the crankshaft sensor was faulty and had caused other fault codes to occur. the car has approx 56,000 miles on it and i was told this problem normally should not happen with this amount of miles. when the part was picked up by the mechanic, he was told that eight of these sensors were recently sold for this same problem. i also checked online and found some of the same complaints from consumers. one person suggested a recall should have been made for this problem. the part was $42 but after diagnostic testing and an oil change, my bill was almost $200! i have been happy with the altima up to this point but feel there are several other altima owners out there who have suffered this same problem. if that is the case, a recall should be issued. if a recall happens to be issued, then i feel i should be reimbursed for having to pay for fixing my vehicle. *tr

I experienced an incident before that my car stalled but it restarted quickly. then few weeks later my car stalled again but this time did not want to start up as quickly as before and my check engine soon light came on this time. as soon as it started up again i went straight to the dealership where i bought the car. on my way over there i was driving on the freeway and i felt my car loosing power and it jerked back. i was very afraid that my car would stall out while i was driving on the freeway. i went to the dealership and explain my situation but they were not able to help at that time because they were booked up. i left and went to auto zone and they performed a diagnostic test on my car. the reason my check engine light came on was due to malfunction of the crankshaft position sensor on my 2005 nissan altima. next morning i went back to the dealership and they performed a diagnostic test too and concluded the same thing. they replaced it with a new crankshaft position sensor. the check engine light is off and the car runs smoother and has not yet stalled out. *tr

Car stalling at in traffic, stop lights, and while driving. i was told to replace air filter and have fuel injector service. i did. car began stalling again. i was told to have throttle body cleaned. i did. engine light on . hose put back on. engine light on again. was told there was code for idle valve but they didn't know how to address it. they reset computer. car stalling again. barely made it across intersection to get to dealership. nissan replaced air filter, cleaned fuel injectors (again) and replaced crack shaft sensors. i just got car today. the car stalling while driving seems a bit dangerous. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle did not start on several occasions throughout the day. the electrical system was working fine, but the engine would not turn over. the vehicle was towed to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to determine the problem, but stated that the cause was most likely due to the cold weather.

Purchased a 05 altima in june of 2004. i have had nothing but problems. i took the car in at 19,000 and told them my car shakes and there is a ticking in the front end. sounds like it is coming from the engine. you can feel the shaking in the seats, gear shift and steering wheel. not to mention the shaking continues to knock my windows out of place. the shaking happens when your are sitting at a stop light and while driving. they told me that i would need to replace tires and alignment. i did the alignment. they then said that the ticking was normal and the shaking was normal. so being a young female i was took them for there word. i then was driving about 35 mph and the right front tire blew out. i was able to pull over, no one was hurt. called nissan said tires were not covered under warranty. so i went to an outside tire dealer to have replaced, was told rim was bent. again called nissan was told that was my problem. so i purchased a new set of rims. just started to face the fact that i would have to deal with the shaking and noise. about 2 months ago returned to the dealer because along with the shaking and noise now there is a loud clunking on the right passenger side. was told tires need to be replace, alignment and balance. also get this right front passenger rim bent. again! said it was the roads. took to tire dealer. rim was bent. he did his part, took it back to dealer. they have had my car more times in the last 2 months then i care to remind myself. but has been no fix to any of my issues. at closing of repair ticket was told ticking noise they did not know where it was coming from but they were pretty sure it was not the engine. the shaking was from a broke rack and pinion. so now that i am over my 36,000 mile warranty. i need to pay over 1300.00 to have repaired. i feel like this car is a lemon and i am now stuck. i am very upset with this lack of concern nissan has with my issues. i need help getting my car repaired. *nm

Our engine seized up while we were driving, oil light came on and the brake light came on as the car died but not before the car died, while we were out of town coming home from a business trip. the nissan dealership said that the drain plug was missing. the oil light is supposed to come on no matter what when it gets low on oil, that is an electrical problem which is covered under the warranty that they pressured us into buying for $1500. now they are not honoring any service agreements they made. they are in breach of contract. we have been paying for hotels, car rentals, food, gas, hitchhiking, everything..... we need to be reimbursed for everything and have nissan take over payments for our car rental, loss of work, returning car, and getting a new one. we have spent five days now screwing with everyone except someone that will help. i have literally talked to 90 people or more since our car broke down. we want help right now, or we will sue trophy nissan immediately. *jb

*tr

I purchased 2005 nissan altima used from long-lewis ford in birmingham, al in 2006. in the fall of 2008 i was turning left onto a main hwy and my car died in the middle of the road causing another car to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. at the time i was 5 months pregnant with my 7 year old in the back. i had the car looked at and was told that it was the crank shaft sensor (i was not aware of a recall at the time). i replaced it and the car ran fine until april 4, 2009. on this day, i went to get in my car and it would not crank. i arrange for a tow the next day and just before they got there i asked my brother to try and crank it and it cranked right up. i had the car checked again and was told it was the camshaft position sensor this time. i was also informed of the recall on the crankshaft sensor. i called nissan to check on the recall and was told my car was not affected. well, evidently it is!!! i also did a search online and was surprised to find the thousands of other people with the same problems!!! they were also told after many expensive trips to the dealer that their car was not involved in the recall. i think there is a huge problem with the sensor recall. this is a problem that needs to be solved before someone gets killed. i can't afford to pay for this problem over and over again!!! thank you for your time and attention to the matter. *tr samantha ridley

A few years ago there was a recall on my car for the ecm, it needed to be reprogrammed, i took it in and supposedly got the recall fixed but the service engine soon light kept coming on. the issue kept occuring and i was almost in a few accidents because the car would suddenly shut off while i was driving in traffic. i later learned that the reprogramming caused my sensors to go out and that when it was reprogrammed the sensors should have been replaced also. most owners including me cannot not afford this and nissan is not taking on any responsibility, they want to fix half the problem and leave me to pay for the damage done to the vehicle from their malfunctions in the altimas computers. if i take my car to a nissan dealership they are going to charge me 80 dollars to hook it up to the machine to turn the light off and tell me that the problem isn't their fault. alot nissan owners were told the same exact information the (ecm) would be reset for free but you would have to come out of pocket for the crankshaft sensor to be fixed, if this amount of complaints are identical, then it really means that nissan corp is ignoring the problem and does not care that their crankshaft sensor is failing along with the (ecm) and because of this some lives are gonna be lost, maybe mine also, cause i cannot not afford to get this fixed and i can't afford to not drive my car.

November 14 2007653,910 vehicles recalled 2005 nissan altima -- on certain passenger vehicles equipped with a 2.5l engine, the crankshaft position sensor can overheat causing a brief interruption in the signal output from the sensor. if the interruption in the signal from the crankshaft position sensor is so brief that the electronic control module (ecm) logic does not have time to diagnose the condition, the engine may stop running without warning while the vehicle is driven at a low speed increasing the risk of a crash. dealers will reprogram the ecm free of charge. certain my 2006 altimas which have been previously remedied under recall campaign 06v223 (nissan r0606) are not included in this recall since the reprogramming for 06v223 also included this reprogramming. the recall began on december 31, 2007. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261. for detailed information & supporting documents, see the official nhtsa page concerning recall #07v527000

My 2005 nissan altima shut off in the middle of traffic this morning almost causing me and my car to be smash by an 18 wheeler, and when i turn it back on and gave it gas it would not move. so i turn it off and back on a few times and i was finally able to drive to work. this has happen a few other times before, the first time it happen i took it to a dealer and they said there was a recall on my car that needed to be fixed, i left the car there for 3 days and the recall was supposedly the problem was fixed, but later the exact same thing happen again, luckily i was in a parking lot and a auto zone was near, so i got the guy to hook it up to his machine to check for codes and the problem that was supposedly fixed with the recall was one of the things that was problematic in my car. so i took it to nissan again and told them i am have the exact same problem again and they tell me it's not the same problem and that i would have to pay over 800 dollars to get it fixed and that if i didn't the engine would just eventually die. this time i'm not going to nissan, because it's kind of pointless, i don't have 800 dollars to spend on a problem that is cause by something they were suppose to fix and didn't. i don't a few searches on the internet and there are other people who have had this exact same problem and had to come out of their pockets. i'm just wondering to people have to die for them to recall the car for the actual problem? or maybe people have died and the accident was blamed on something else. the recall that was supposed to fix my problem is nhtsa campaign id number: 07v527000. *tr

My complaint is similar to many others i have seen. i own a 2005 nissan altima 2.5 sl. it has approximately 47,000 miles. on a recent trip i noticed difficulty cranking and service engine light remained on. i was 5 hours from my home with my family in the car. it was a weekend, so no nissan dealer was open or even in the vicinity of my location. after crossing all fingers and nursing the car home, i immediately took it to my normal dealer on monday morning. i was told the tech found a code for a failed crankshaft position sensor. the service manager checked my vin for any bulletins or recalls and found none. i was charged $230 to replace the failed part. i called nissan consumer affairs asking for reimbursement based on the failure frequency rate of this sensor. after many phone calls and voicemails i was told that nissan would not reimburse the charges. i asked if the failure rate of the sensor was taken into consideration in their decision - the answer was no. i asked what the failure rate was for the sensor - my rep, the regional specialist, did not have that information. based on my research, it appears there is a statistically significant rate of failure for the crankshaft position sensor along with several redesigns of the oem part. nissan does not seem to be taking responsibility for the problem. i am disappointed as, up until now, i had been very pleased with the vehicle and with nissan overall. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan altima 2.5sl. last year i got a recall to reprogram the ecm fixed on my car. my car was shutting down while driving and sometimes when i started the car it would not accelerate. after the recalled was supposedly fixed, this stopped happen until yesterday. i thought everything was fixed, then my car just randomly stopped in traffic and the service engine soon light came on. when i crank it back up and tried to give it gas it would not accelerate. i thought the reason for the recall was to prevent this from happening. i took it to the nissan who advised me it was something crankshaft position sensor, i was told that this had nothing to do with the ecm reprogramming recall even though nissan had a recall on crankshaft sensors in 2007. and after reading here and other places i find that this has been a problem from nissan since 2002. so my question is what was the recall for if it did not fix the problem and why am i being charge to get a nissan error repaired that apparently alot of other people are having. this is insane!!! does hundreds of people have to die because of this before they decide to do a recall to fix the real problem? will it take a law suit? i think the crankshaft sensors are faulty and need to be recalled. i could have been killed. *tr

Timing chain on my 2005 nissan altima is making a buzzing/whining noise at the engine area. this whole process started on wednesday, february 11, 2009 when the nissan service department found the issue and stated that it should be fixed to the amount of $1,578.00 (+tax). they even sent a cpia - goodwill recommendation request to which nissan's message back was goodwill is not recommended. at that time i explained to them that it did not make any sense to me why a timing chain that is meant to outlast the life of the engine would need to be replaced when my vehicle only has 76,717 miles on it. i have always ensured it is well maintained at the intervals recommended and i am a very safe and good driver and keep my vehicle in good working condition, it is not neglected in anyway. they suggested that i phone the nissan customer care line to see if there was anything further that could be done. after 6 phone calls with nissan customer care they too decided that they felt it was out of warranty and not their problem. so i went back to the dealership and received a recommendation to speak with the service manager. i sent him a very detailed email requesting assistance, he stated he'd look into my concerns. unfortunately, he too received the same response that nissan feels they are not obligated in anyway to repair the timing chain on my vehicle because it is out of the warranty period. at this time i plan to pursue this further by contacting the better business bureau and lemon law to see if they can assist in anyway. i believe that it is ridiculous for the consumer to pay the cost of replacing a part that should be replaced by the manufacturer since it is obviously a defective part, since it's designed to out live the life of the engine, last i checked 76,000+ miles on a nissan is not the life of the engine. i hope that nissan will finally realize they are responsible and assist in resolving this matter for me. *tr

My wife was driving on the interstate when the car sputtered almost stalling. the check engine light appeared and stayed on. i took the car to a car parts store and borrowed their computer diagnosis device and found out the crankshaft sensor malfunctioned. there has been a recall on the esm, but nothing going to the root of the problem (the crankshaft sensor). through my research i found the problems attributed to this part are not starting, sputtering while driving and/or shutting-off while driving. i took the car to nissan on two previous occasions for not starting, but no diagnosis could be attained by nissan. after speaking with different local nissan dealer, the service tech admitted the problem is the crankshaft sensor failing. i feel nissan is putting a band-aid on the real problem disguising it with the esm reprogram. the failure of this part can be very dangerous if you are driving and the car shuts off. after doing some research on forums, there have been a lot of complaints and apparently nissan has had this problem with the altima as far back as the '03 model year. it was also stated on the forums that multiple sensors have been replaced over and over. i am now worried about myself and my young child's safety as this car is our main source of transportation. *tr

I am the owner of a 2005 nissan altima 2.5sl. i received a recall notice that advised me the vehicle can stop running without notice which could result in a crash. the recall notice advised that the fix to this problem was the reprogramming of the ecm. to keep my daughter and i safe on the road, i took the car in for the recall as instructed. before the recall, my service engine light never came on and my vehicle was running fine. not to long after the recall was done, my service engine soon light came on. last week i was driving my vehicle, with my 10 month old daughter in the car and the car stalled and shut down on us without warning. thankfully another vehicle did not hit us. i took it to the dealership who advised me it was the crankshaft position sensor. after doing some reading i find that this has been a problem nissan has been avoiding since 2002 and i was not the only owner whose vehicle shut down on them without warning. the events, patterns and failures i have experienced are the same sequence of events that so many nissan altima owners have reported and complained about. i contacted nissan directly and was told that they are not responsible. i paid $285 to have the crankshaft sensor replaced. i thought responding to the recall would take care of everything and we would be safe; however, the recall did not stop my car from shutting down on me in the middle of traffic. i believe nissan is recalling the wrong thing and dodging the responsibility of replacing the default crankshaft sensors that are causing these vehicles to shut down. a vehicle that is subject to shut down while driving without warning is very dangerous and should not be on the road. i saved the crankshaft sensor that was removed from my vehicle just in case someone decides to finally do something about this. an investigation needs to take place before someone is killed or seriously injured on the road or highway. *tr

Car arbitrarily stalled and cut off at low speeds and began to also jerk intermittently as if attempting to shut down while traveling at highway speeds...easily this could lend to a collision!!! service engine soon indicator illuminated on dash and has remained lit. dealer reprogrammed ecm only for stalling and jerking to continue, and service engine soon indicator to re-illuminate within 24-hours of initial fix. also of note, dealer repairman noted that p0420 was diagnosed stating that the catalyst system is failing and engine may need to be replace depending on oil consumption level to be determined after 1000 miles driven. canadian recall campaign code: r86 calls for p0335 kgb sensor to be replaced by dealer whereas niacin north america's only corrective action is for dealers to reprogram the ecma free of charge--which, consequently, does not remedy the problem--and instead attempts to divert the computer from diagnosing the problem--a faulty crankshaft position sensor. catalytic converter failure (and related engine failure) covered per the federal emissions warranty until 80,000 miles. *tr

I received a recall notice for my 2005 nissan altima. it warned of serious problems that might arise from a defect that makes the engine possibly shut off while driving. i had it fixed several weeks ago, but check engine light remained on and car otherwise was hiccuping in traffic. i returned today, and they charged me $250!! for fixing something called a crankshaft sensor. such sensor was, as i understand it, part of the recall problem. yet, it has been explained to me that even though this recall is related to the sensor issue, replacing the sensor itself is not considered part of what is covered by the recall. if that's the case, i don't get the point of the recall. it obviously is more about money making and/or saving face without paying to fix a dangerous problem. i have seen others with these same complaints on line. i'd just like to add my complaint to the many others so that something might be done. *tr

On numerous occasions in october, 2007 my 2005 nissan altima would stall out while driving. this occurred mainly on the interstate causing a instantaneous slowing down of the vehicle, where vehicles behind me would come very close to hitting the rear of my car. other times the car would stall completely at low speeds, loosing power to the steering and brakes putting myself in a situation harmful to those stopped in front of me. the stall occurs without warning to myself or others around me, creating a serious safety-related problem. i researched & found safety-related recalls for the '02, '03, '04 models but not 2005. my vehicle had 41,000 miles on it when i took it to the dealership. there was no recall yet for the 2005 model although i experienced the same problems the other recalls identified. the service personnel called me after my car was looked at and advised that the cam shaft position sensor and the crank shaft position sensor had failed due to experiencing hot conditions & the solder holding them in place melted (again consistent with previously issued tsbs and recalls). i pleaded, this should be under a recall, both with nissan consumer affairs and with victory nissan from whom i purchased the altima. i was left paying the fee myself. the recall for the 2005 model was issued in december 2007 and i am trying to get a refund for having to pay for repairs that nissan identified as safety-related. the recall lists reprogramming of the ecm, which needed to be completed, since the ecm would loose communication with the tcm. however the reason for the failure in communication stemmed from the failure of the position sensors. i feel let down and upset that nissan continued to experience these problems with their 2.5 liter engines in years subsequent to issued recalls and failed to notify current owners of the safety-related problems. i am also upset that nissan does not admit the crank position and cam position sensors played part in the stalling. *tr

On three separate occasions, my vehicle has cut off on me. i have taken the car to the dealership two of the three times. the first time, it cut off as i prepared to accelerate after stopping at a traffic light. the dealership could not get a problem reading from the computer. the second time, i was slowing down to go around a curve in the highway and the car did not respond when i attempted to accelerate. it sputtered and cut off. fortunately, there were no other cars behind me, as it was only a two lane highway and it was late at night. i was able to pull over to the shoulder and restart the car. the information about the recall came out shortly after, however morris nissan refused to repair my car without me paying for the repair, as they stated that they had not gotten authorization from nissan yet on the recall and could not do it free of charge. the third time was just today as, once again, i was accelerating from a stop. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan altima. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle began making a loud noise and the service engine light illuminated. she was able to drive to a service station and the mechanic stated that there was no oil or oil plugs in the vehicle. he refused to make the repair. she had the vehicle towed to nissan, where it was regularly serviced every 3,000 miles. the dealer stated that she needed a new engine and that they were not responsible for the vehicle not having oil or oil plugs. they also informed her that someone had tampered with her vehicle. the contact has spoken with nissan on several occasions and has been without her vehicle for two months. she believes they are giving her the run-around. the current and failure mileages were 41,000. * updated 12/12/07 *bf the dealer stated passenger window makes noise, and remote switch is inoperable. updated 12/12/07 *tr updated 03-04-08 *bf

I am the owner of a 2005 nissan altima 2.5s and i am having problems with my engine going dead while traveling on the interstate highway. there is no set speed this happens, the car just drops power and cuts off. i travel 110 miles a day round trip and it happens at least three times a day. nissan has informed me since there is no error code in the ecm there is nothing they can do. i have been told basically its my problem. in researching the internet there appears to be many owners experiencing the same problem. *tr

I have had nothing but problems from my 2005 altima that i purchased new in sept 05. the first week i owned the vehicle my engine light came on and the vehicle was very sluggish from takeoff, i then called the dealership where i purchased the vehicle and was told that all nissan are sluggish and need to be driven to get the newness from the vehicle what kind of crap is that. about 6 months ago, i noticed that my brakes are squealing and my tires needed to be replaced, i don't even have 20k miles on my vehicle so this is very mysterious to me. nissan in my opinion does not listen to its customers and claims to be the very best towards their customers on the commercials but in reality they are just another big company making money at the expense of use to be loyal customers. every complaint on this board i can agree with which is sad for i to have experienced the seat belts, sharp bar under the passengers seat, engine and passenger seat air bag light so basically all we have is an expensive good looking non-working pieces of crap. so thank you very much nissan. signed - will never ever ever purchase another nissan in my life. *nm

Dt: car just stops sometimes and it will not start. consumer almost has to flood the engine before it starts. dealer told consumer she needed to pump the gas 3 times before she started the car. she had vehicle in the repair shop because the car was idling very fast. they put a throttle chamber in it, then it started to do the same thing again . dealer said it was unsafe because it was racing too high; they ordered a new part for the car. it is still doing the same thing. *ak updated 02/07/06. *jb

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE - GASOLINE

The car failed to start after owning the car for 13 months. the car acted as if it was flooded, cranking but not firing. to start the car i had to hold the gas pedal down until the car fired and started. the failure occurred after recently purchasing gasoline. we only use 2-3 different gas stations with good reputations. it seemed to happen the first cold spell of november 2005. the dealer said these circumstances shouldn't cause flooding and if the check engine light didn't come on they couldn't do anything to help us. the problem has not recurred but as a precaution, i ran the gas tank almost empty and put in a bottle of gas treatment. i also plan, if possible, on buying my gas from only one source from here on out. *nm

The car failed to start only two weeks after buying it, and the problem has recurred. the car acts as if it's flooded, cranking but not firing. both failures occurred after recently purchasing gasoline (the same gasoline retailer is used fairly consistently) and driving the car immediately home in cold, but not severely cold, temperatures. the dealer said these circumstances shouldn't cause flooding, but has been unable to find any problems and now refuses to research it further. nissan consumer affairs has advised of a recall that may be applicable, but the dealer doesn't seem to be aware of it and i'm in the process of following up on this point. *nm
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - EXHAUST SYSTEM

My check engine light came on and i took it to a precision dealer in my neighbourhood. precision told me that the part affected (catalytic converter) had been recalled by nissan and the dealer would fix it for free. when i went to the dealer, i was informed that even though the part was recalled for some cars, my particular vin number was not covered. i also called up nissan consumer affair and they said that the recall did not apply to my car. i had to pay the price for repair myself. when i researched online, i saw tons of complaints by people for a faulty converter that nissan failed to honor. i am filing an official complaint because i think that if nissan knows that a part of theirs is under re-call for certain vins and other drivers are also experiencing similar problems, they should also get their part recalled.

I was driving north on the muskogee turn pike around mile marker 9 when i heard a noise. i felt shuttering and looked in the rear view mirrow and saw a large piece of tire flying through the air. i immediately pulled over and changed the tire. all of the tread was missing and the tire was still inflated. this caused over $1,800 in damage to my car and cause me to have to buy a new set of tires.

The service engine soon light came on and went off for a few weeks finally i took it to the shop. i was told that is the catalyst converter, the part alone cost around 600.00, car is a 2005 altima 2.5 with 120,000.00 miles, well maintained. after searching the internet i have come to realize that this a common problem with this model. i just spent over 300.00 to repair the crankshaft as my vehicle would stall and not start all the time. on top of it all i was also just told that i need to replace the inner tie rod - another 300.00 - this car is turning out to be a pile of junk. *tr

My vehicle a 2005 altima isn't starting properly, i brought it to the dealer where i bought it and they said i have a crankshaft sensor failure, this means the car could shutdown at any moment while i'm driving it!!! luckily i didn't cause any major accidents so i called nissan about this problem, they said my car isn't coverage under this recall # 07v527000. shame on nissan!!! i spend $255.45 out of my own pocket to get this problem fixed!!! *tr

Car has 77,000 miles on it. the check engine light came on. codes were read it is the crank position sensor and camshaft position sensor seems the only recall for this was the crank position sensor that was reprogrammed, not replaced. there seems to be thousands of complaints on this issue. it seems a recall needs to be done on replacing the sensor not just reprogramming.

*tr

This year i am required to obtain a smog test for my 2005 nissan altima tha i purchased used from power volvo in california. my car is throwing off a p0420 code which requires a replacement to the pre-catalytic converter. per the owners manual, my car should be covered under california emissions for 15 years, 150,000. yet when i took it to the dealer to have the converter repaired, i was informed that my car originally came from new york and california emissions did not apply and therefore not covered under the states emissions warranty. i have owned the car for 4 years and have driven it and lived in california since i purchased the car. i can't believe that a dealer could be able to get out of a repair to this pre-cat defect because the car was first sold in new york. i have filed a claim with nissan requesting assistance but have yet to hear back (claim #7271179). i have also started consuming oil which is not due to an outside leak and my driver's side floor board is rusting. please help!

Dt: the contact stated the fuel system and cluster module had to be replaced with less than 800 miles on the vehicle. there was a pinging noise coming from under the mid section. the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they stated this noise was normal. a local mechanic determined it was a broken catalytic converter. based on complaints on a website she felt that a clamp nut may be loose. this has not been addressed by the dealership. after 90 minutes in the vehicle the contact became dizzy by what she felt may be related to the exhaust system. the transmission jerked, and hesitated in low gears. the dealership has not been able to diagnose the problem with the transmission. the front windshield defroster partially defrosts the driver's side, but did not work at on the passenger's side. the vehicle has not been seen by the dealership for the defroster. *ak
