Tl-the driver owns a 2005 nissan altima. the contact did not own the vehicle so the full details of the failure were not available. the driver was involved in a crash in which the steering wheel became very hot and burned the drivers hands. a police report was filed and no other injuries were reported. the vehicle was towed to an insurance company lot. the failure was not diagnosed and the vehicle was in the process of being repaired for body damages. the failure and current mileages were 120,000. sm.

2005 nissan altima with entire under carrige rusting and rusted through certain areas. i change my own oil so it was not discovered until i brought it into a nissan dealership for a timing belt repair in may '10 while on the lift the nissan tech pointed out the problem. he even admitted that this has been a problem/defect in this particular model/year. we took our complaint to nissan and filed a claim (claim #6988270). they informed us that since our warranty was expired there was nothing that they were going to do. even though the rust was not discovered until '10 it was there all along during the warranty time. this is a garage kept car and is in very good condition. there are no other rust problems except for the under carrige. i have read numerous complaints about this problem and hope to have support from outside agency to make nissan make good on it's quality of car. we did not spend our hard earned $33,000 on a fred flinstone car!!! we are willing to summit pictures and continue our mission unitl justice is done. this is a huge safety concern that nissan should address. without the knowledge of this problem one could be injured severely.

The paint on my 2005 nissan altima which is pearl white is peeling off on each side of the hood. my car is still under warranty 89,000 miles and nissan will not do anything to help me with this defect. i was told that the nhtsa are great people and maybe they could help me.

Took my car in to be inspected (pa inspection). floor pan on my 2005 altima is completely rusted through on the passenger side of the vehicle. needs to have floor pan replaced. this car has very low mileage, is clean and garage kept. checked the internet, and noticed quite a few complaints about rust on the passenger and drive side. nothing else is showing rust. how can one part completely rust out and the remaining part of the car has none at all?? apparently there is a defect that is holding water/moisture and causing the rust. the car does not have any mechanical issue - basically like new. however, totally rusted out in one spot. *tr

The trunk of the vehicle, which in my opinion is designed poorly and does not have a secure way to stay upright, has fallen down and hit me on the head while i was leaning over the trunk to collect packages or bags, on more than one occasion due to wind. *tr

I would like to report a situation i had with my leased 2005 altima that could be a serious problem for drivers and i think you should look into for a possible call back. seven (7) of the clips ( part 01553-09321) came off the car while driving, causing the lower engine cover to fall down and hanging by the remaining clips. not knowing the problem, i was startled and had to quickly pull over to see what the problem was. i had to tape the lower engine cover with duct tape in order to be able to drive the car. the cover is being held on by clips rather than bolts. if bolts or screws were in it, it would not have happened. i have been told that the service department that they replaces a lot of these clips. it seems to me that if you are replacing a lot of clips, they are not doing the job. if lower engine cover falls down, it could cause a major accident if the car is going at a high speed. i think it is incumbent on you to look into this matter, before there is a major accident. i am now very nervous about using the car, because if it happened once, it could happen again. the dealer is staten island nissan 222 parkinson ave, staten island, new york 10305 (718) 447-3878. i spoke to nissan and they claim that there was a scrape on the bottom and that it was my fault that it happened. if clips can pop that easy, there is definitely something wrong. it could not happen if they used bolts. *tr

Where do i begin. first test drive, we stopped to put gas in vehicle. then on start up it would not start. had to call dealer for a jump start, twice. then 2nd week my driver side exterior roof molding kept popping off. after the 3rd time, it was warped. took to cardinale nissan in seaside ca, and they ordered the wrong part. then after driving around with some bright blue tape all the way down my car, they then suggested that they had to follow a bulletin from nissan where they just placed new clips and lots of glue. they didn't replace the molding. a few months later it kept popping off again. took car back and then they wanted to charge me to fix the problem they never did! after arguing they agreed to replace with new molding. i waited 2 weeks for part to come in, took car back 4th time. when i picked it up, they had once again, just put new clips and even more glue. they didn't replace molding again. was told to wait 48 hours for glue to dry, so now i got to drive around with neon green tape on my car. two days later, took it back and it was still lifting. they finally agreed to replace the molding. i have to wait another 48 hours with a new strip of green tape. *nm

An update to a previously reported problem, which may help other car owners in determining a suspected problem. i have a 2005 nissan altima 3.5 sl. last summer i was having problems with the car's handling at highway speeds. i had the car aligned, replaced all 4 tires, one by one and was still having with the car-which was shaking at speeds over 60 mph. i took it to the dealer again and they determined that the shaking was like a turbulence effect. the spoiler under the car was not allowing the wind to flow through properly, which was causing the shaking effect at highway speeds. the dealer replaced the spoiler with the 2.5 model's spoiler. this seems to have solved the problem. this car is a lighter car and the wind does have an effect on it when driving at higher speeds. the tires which are a continental brand are probably not the correct tires for the car due to road force issues and not the proper speed rating for this model either. i will probably replace those with a better model and high speed rating once they start to wear down. *nm

I just discovered that the floor boards of both passenger and driver side in the bottom is fully rusted. it seems after looking on line that i am not the only owner of the 2005 altima with the same issue in which could lead to a safety problem with the structural integrity of the vehicle.

I had discovered the floor on the passenger side of my altima rusting through from the inside. when originally purchased new the auto was discover to have a water leak soaking the carpeting on the drivers side and the passenger side of the car. nissan (dealer) had indicated that they found the source of the leak but evidently had not with the floor rusting through from the inside of the vehicle as stated. it seems after looking on line that i am not the only owner of the 2005 altima with the same issue in which could lead to a safety problem with the structural integrity of the vehicle.

My 2005 nissan altima floor board is badly rusted. i cannot pass the state inspection and it will cost me so much money to fix my car just to pass the inspection. i did some research on line and i see that most 2005 model has this issue. i feel that the dealer needs to do a recall and fix this problem immediately. i will most definitely not recommend this make and model to anyone else. *tr

I took my vehicle for an oil change and the technician showed me that my floor boards under my driver and passenger side seats were rusted out and forming holes into the cabin of my car. he was able to poke all the way through and push up my carpet on my driver side floor. i was issued a factory recall around 2008 from nissan about living in a road salted state (nj) and the undercarriage needed to be replace. i brought my car in for the recall in nov 2009. it seems they did not replace all the affected areas. i contacted nissan today via their 1-800 # and was told there was no longer a warranty or recall out for my vehicle concerning this issue. i drive the nissan as my main transportation for my children and i can not afford to fix this issue out of my own pocket. it is unsafe and unexpected from a 7 year old car purchase brand new. *tr

Fully rusted driver and passenger floor boards. can see interior rug underneath vehicle. have done a lot of research and this appears to be a known issue with nissan from 2002 and 2005 related to cars in salt states. have seen many comments that defective steel was used. we have been advised that the structural integrity of our car is compromised. dealer wants $1200 to cut out rotted floor boards and weld in new floor panels. have contacted nissan customer care and opened case. regional manager called and refuses to offer any coverage for this issue. also, nissan as a corporation has decided that they are not going to offer any assistance to owners with this widespread problem. *tr

I was changing the oil on my 2005 nissan altima and realized the floorboards are nearly completely rusted through. i lifted the carpet inside the cabin and realized it is rusted through. i had my oil changed at the local nissan dealership for oil changes. when i inquired about the floorboards they stated nissan altima 2005 had a 5 year corrosive warranty for the underbody and it is out of warranty for this repair. i am concerned of the safety of driving this model. the rusted floorboards are near the front driver seats. i am also concerned because of water or mold near the front floor vents could enter the cabin through the rusted floorboards. the fort wayne nissan stated they did not notice this rust during my oil changes. i began changing my oil when the car was just out of warranty. i immediately realized the rusty floorboards. this is a common problem in all 2002-2005 nissan altima problems. i would like nissan of north america to address and resolve this issue. *tr

I noticed a loose piece of hanging metal from underneath the front passenger side of my 2005 nissan altima. i looked underneath and quickly found that approximately an 8 x 20 floorboard section behind the front right wheel was completely rusted out and crumbled to the ground upon touching it. the approximate mileage is 135,000 miles. this appears to be a common complaint with this make and model and nissan needs to acknowledge that this is a manufacturing defect. it is expected this would be an issue 40 years ago, but not with today's cars. *tr

I brought my car to be serviced at glick nissan, the diagnostic report said that the left and right sides of the floor under passenger and driver seats are rusted out. i brought my car for a second opinion from another mechanic and his report said the rust is severe and in 6 months my car will be worth nothing! upon further investigation, i find that thousands of other nissan customers are experiencing the same problem due to a defective product used by nissan. i filed a claim with nissan north america, they are claiming zero responsibility, labeling the issue as an environmental concern and will in no way assist with repairs. nissan should take responsibility for this issue. *tr

It was noticed during inspection that the passenger side floorboards were starting to peel away. this is a known problem with this vehicle. contacted nissan about correcting the problem and they did not want to take responsibility for their poor engineering and materials of the vehicle. they should make good on the problem but they said because they didn't have enough service history , the car was out of warranty, it had to many miles. all reasons that have nothing to do with poor materials and workmanship. i think nissan should take responsibility and correct the problem they should be investigated about the problem. this is not an isolated problem.

*tr

I had my 2005 nissan altima at my local mechanic to have some rattling underneath my car looked at. there was a loose heat shield that the mechanic fixed and he also notified me that there were large areas of rust along both floorboards. this vehicle has been meticulously maintained and washed in the winter. the last time the car was at there mechanic, there was no rust evident. unfortunately my car is no longer under warranty and i would like nissan to acknowledge that this is a manufacturing defect. *tr

My vehicle is a low mileage garaged 2005 nissan altima which is in perfect condition except that the driver and passenger side floor boards are rotted out so that you can step through. vehicle has been garaged and meticulously maintained with fresh water cleaning of the undercarriage when washed and especially in the spring. this is a serious safety hazard with potential for injury stepping through and possible death from exhaust fumes causing unconsciousness while driving. this is an obvious vehicle defect and should be recalled. i have read numerous incidents of this problem both on this nhtsb site and in owner forums so it is a well known problem that needs top be addressed. *tr

After jacking up my mother's car for an oil change, while i was placing jack stands behind the front wheels in the appropriate jacking points, i noticed that the floor panels looked swollen underneath the rust proofing material. i began to poke at it with my finger, and my finger pushed through the rust proofing and all kinds of severely rusted metal began to fall out on the garage floor. the steel floor panel, had basically turned to rusted dust. i was able to push my finger up through the floor panel until i could feel the bottom of the carpet. noticing no other rust anywhere else near by, i figured it had to be a manufacturing defect, so i decided to check the driver's side same location, and sure enough, was able to push my finger through the rust proofing and through rotted steel like it was nothing. this is obviously a manufacturer defect as there is absolutely no rust anywhere else on the car. the car has very low mileage, and has been very well maintained, as well as garage kept. nissan needs to acknowledge this as a manufacturing defect, and a safety issue. *tr

My 2005 nissan altima 2.5s has 88,500 miles on it. it is in excellent condition, except for the floor pans under the vehicle (driver and passenger sides) that are rusting through. it is apparent that this is a known problem for these vehicles and nissan has not issued a recall. i need this fixed, as this is a safety concern for 2 reasons: structural integrity and fumes entering vehicle. i was informed by my local nissan dealer that the only proper repair is to completely replace the floor pan metal. the estimate for this was around $2500. i have a 2 year old son and a daughter on the way. i cannot afford a new vehicle at this time, and nissan needs to step up and fix this!

While jacking my 2005 nissan altima up upon looking underneath i noticed a 4 inch by 4 inch patch of rust. after further inspection i noticed that it was rusted all the way through to the carpet inside the car. six months ago when i was working on my car there was not rust at all. i take care of my car and inspect the car for any problems. there are no recalls for this by nissan and this needs to be fixed. after researching i found this is a common problem with 02 - 05 altimas and is a serious safety issue.

I have a 2005 nissan altima sl and took my car into conicelli nissan back in febrauy of this year for an order change and something else minor. conicelli nissan brought to my attention that the floor pan was rusted on the passenger side front. i was told to contact the body shop of conicelli which i did and they in turn told me that they can not do the repair becuase of the rust and they didn't want to be held accountability for it and perhaps risk a law suit further down the line. my complaint is the car is only 8 years old with 60,000 miles on it and i have taken it to two different body shops and they are amazed that the floor pan has rushed already being that the car is only 7 years old and in very good condition. this seams like a know problem with nissan cars and it doesn't make any sense and the customers want answers now. it will cost me at least $1,000 to get this taken care of and i don't have that kind of money. i need someone to contact me to get to the bottom of this ongoing issue.

My car would not start normally. immediately the check engine light turned on. had a code with a failed crankshaft sensor. nissan was informed and rudely refused to help with the replacement even though it had a recall on it. said my vin number was not included. seems like nobodys vin # was included in this recall. this is a safety hazzard. i replaced the sensor but it cost me $170.00 for something that nissan should have happily handled. never buy a nissan. my floorboard on the passenger side is also completely rusted out. there is a hole in my floorboard. same story page after page of complaints can been seen online with this problem. car has been serviced at uftring nissan in peoria, illinois and not once did anyone bring my attention to the fact that this car had rusted all the way through from the inside out. nissan refuses to handle this issue either.

I have a 2005 nissan altima that i just took in for a front end check and was notified that the floorboard on the driver side is completely rusted out, i can actual touch the carpeting through this large hole. i can not believe this, the car is only 7 years old. i have searched this on the internet and it seems to be a very common complaint, why isn't nissan do anything about this? how many complaints need to be made before something is done about this? obviously this a manufacturer defect.

What once was two decent sized rust areas on the floorboard of my nissan altima is now two gaping holes in which you can see and put your hand straight through and touch the ground outside if it wasn't for the carpet. i first noticed it when i was getting an oil change and my mechanic pointed out to me. the it all made sense because when ever it rained or snowed badly in my area i would always have wet floors and at first i thought something was leaking but i now know it's the two rust corrosion spot in the floorboard. and some days the odor from the wetness on the carpet is pungent. one is on the driver side and the other is right on the passenger side. i was looking through my warranty and vehicle info books that came with the vehicle and it definitely shows that rust warranty is lifetime or something to that nature i am going to look at it once again and ensure if that information is correct.

I purchased my 2005 nissan altima 2.5s used in november of 2006. it had approximately 33,000 miles on it. five years later, the car has 101,000 miles on it and the passenger side floorboard has major rust damage; so much that you can actually touch the interior rubber floorboard of the car from the outside. i have yet to take it to a nissan dealership, since i know my warranty is expired, but i have had many professionals take a look and they are rendered speechless over the damage. i have been told numerous times that the damage is obviously a factory defect, a car that's only a few years old should not have that kind of damage and that it would cost well over $1000.00 to repair. i have maintained my vehicle well and haven't had any other major problems with it; just the usual replacements. i've put a new battery in it recently, i've had the brakes replaced twice, rotors once; it currently needs a new serpentine belt, lower ball joint and the muffler is showing rust, so that will be a replacement in the near future. i've read about people who live in cold, snowy areas having these problems as well, due to salt and chemical exposure. i wash and dry my car after every snow, including the undercarriage, to remove these chemicals. i do not park in wet areas, grass or dirt. my car has always been on concrete. nothing in my car leaks, i've never had standing water in it, i've never had wet floors. this is a defect that nissan needs to take full responsibility for. i am beyond overwhelmed with the hundreds of complaints i've read in regards to this problem; this affects so many nissan owners, so it's obvioulsy not a problem caused by owner neglect. the driver side of my car looks fantastic; no rust damage whatsoever, so once again, that proves that i am not negligent or responsible for the rust damage on the passenger side; nissan is.

I have just discovered that my 2005 nissan altima is rusting under the driver side and also under the passenger side. under the driver side the rusting is worse, i can just peel off the the rusting area with my bare hands. i know that this type is problem is common with these vehicles, i have seen several pictures published by other nissan altima owners on the internet. my car has 86000 miles on it and it is 6 years old. i did not expect such a serious defect on a relatively young car, which was garaged a well cared for ever since a bought it new.

While having the oil changed it was brought to the owner's attention that the passenger front floorboard was completely rusted through. the vehicle was taken to a body shop where they advised to take the vehicle to the local nissan dealer because there was no other rust on the car and the extent of perforation was so severe the body shop said there must be some problem with the way the car was assembled. the car was taken to the local nissan dealer where the warranty representative looked at the vehicle and denied any warranty support or assistance with getting the vehicle repaired. i returned the vehicle to a reputable body shop where the car was repaired for $600.00. the body shop informed me that the rust had started on the inside and rusted through from the top. after repairs, the owner saw that several other vehicles of the same year and type have the same defect.

During a routine brake inspection it was brought to my atttention the floorboards on the passenger side (front seat) have corroded to the point where a finger could punch through the floor. the damage is isolated and appears to be from a faulty drain system from the air conditioning unit. after driving the car for over an hour with the air running, there is no draining on the floor of my garage. it appears the water is puddling under the floor mats and causing the erosion of the floor. i am the only owner of the vehicle and it has been garaged since the day i brought it home.

'2005' nissan altima 2.5 sl. noticed a large area of rust under the passenger front floorboard when car was on a lift. did a search online and found that there were numerous complaints for this same problem. affected years '02' - '06'. many others have contacted nissan and they have refused repair.

To whom it may concern: i purchased a 2005 nissan altima in july 2009. recently, i had my car inspected and a rust perforation was noticed on the underside of the passenger side. it is the size of a baseball which is through the first layer of metal. i spoke with the dealer, where i purchased the vehicle, and they stated that my warranty for perforation was 5 years and has expired. i had planned on repairing it myself; however, upon online research i found that this is a common problem with the 2002-2006 altima models. the perforation on these cars appears on the passenger side floor exactly where mine is. the floor is designed with two pieces of sheet metal with a gap in between which, unfortunately allows water to become trapped. this is a design error which causes premature rust to form. i am concerned that if i repair the rust, it will inevitably return. i contacted nissan canada and was told the same story regarding my expired perforation warranty. i explained the numerous complaints online concerning this matter and was surprised that the service agent was unaware of this issue. i understand that my warranty has expired; however, it is unacceptable that the floor of the car rusted prematurely due to a design flaw. i take pride and care of my vehicle and i expect nissan to acknowledge this flaw and enact a recall for the floor on all 2002-2006 nissan altimas or, at a minimon pay for the repairs on my vehicle. thank you for consideration in this matter, kevin p. sweezey (bhs, rtmr)

There is a rusted hole on the passenger side floor of the car. the hole is the size of a softball with rusted metal around the area of the hole. apparently this is common on 2002-2006 nissan altimas. the car has never been in an accident and has been well maintained.

Vehicle was brought for routine inspection. 2 holes were discovered in floor panels that prevented it from passing vt inspection. corrosion was from inside out under both front seats not visible from vehicle interior. vehicle has been garaged since purchase 6/25/04. corrosion is excessive for age and mileage even in an area prone to road salt corrosion. multiple complaints have been filed on model years 2001-2005 yet no recall. the problem is extremely expensive to repair and if not recognized can allow carbon monoxide into passenger compartment.

I have bought brand new 2005 nissan altima 3.5se in october of 2004. just yesterday during my oil change i have noticed a hole underneath the car and rusted area in the diameter of a foot or so. flooring rusted and it was obviously result of not forced damage but defective materials used to make the car flooring. i am finding forums and loads of complaints that right after the warranty is expired car's flooring simply start to rust. i do not know what to do and i am sure dealership will turn me away as the car is not under warranty and they usually do not have body shops. who can help me as i spent about $33,000.00 for this car (last 6 years of paying it off.... help!!?!? *tr

*tr

I own a 2005 nissan altima and within 3 months of the purchase of the vehicle in 2005 the weatherstipping or molding on the roof on the exterior of the car had come off. while driving on the freeway i heard a sound similar to a banging on the roof. the molding was hitting the top of the car causing minor damage to the paint on the roof. i took it back to be fixed ,and i assumed it was glued back on. after waiting a day to pick up the car from the dealership i was driving home and the weatherstripping came off again. i took it back and they fixed it again. i recently took the car to a car wash and when i got the car back i noticed the molding had come off again, and this time ,the molding was totally bent out of shape ,and it looksedterrible. i plan to take it back to the dealership again this week. *ak

I just purchased a 2005 nissan altima from cooper nissan in easton, pa. problem: the trunk lid is poorly designed and it will not stay up on a sloping driveway.*ak when i purchased the car and opened the trunk on my driveway. the trunk lid would not stay up, when parked on my driveway. about a 15 degree incline. the trunk lid has fallen on me several times but i was not cut. i contacted the cooper service dept and they ordered new torsion bars. after they were installed it appeared to work. on 8/14/04 i washing vacuuming out my trunk. the trunk lid fell down on my and caused a puncture wound to the back of my head and the blood started flowing&. eventually with a compress the blood flow stopped after about an hour but the headache lasted for hours! i called the cooper service dept and they essentially said they couldn't do anything, thats the way its designed- sorry i then called the national nissan consumer affairs dept and they reviewed my complaint and suggested a course of action of checked my car against others on the lot and to replace the torsion bars as needed. but i had already done that. and their final postion was thats the way its designed and thats all they could do, sorry it doesn't work on your driveway - you'll just have to hold up the lid when you use the trunk and what happens when you need two hands to put something in your trunk??? i have repeatly asked for a cheap , easy fix to add additional strength to the trunk lid but i been stalled by the nissan personnel. they don''t even want to try to solve the problem. i don't care if it was an offical nissan fix, i just wanted a fix. so that i can safely use my trunk without being injured.

The safety and durability of liquid filled engine mounts needs to be examined. they are a total and utter failure. the manufacturers know this, but are making the consumer pay for replacement for premature failures and related damages. this is why you have engine run aways. the electronics arent meant for this much vibrations. with a solid, or even semi-solid mount, the frame absorbs some of this energy. best replacement mounts should be a semi-solid, honey comb neoprene core, with cable reinforcement.

I have a 2005 nissan altima that i bought in 2008 and has had nothing but problems, first had to replace the steering knuckle because the steering was going out ($400) than had to replace the motor mounts, struts, inner/outer tie rods, i have no heat when at idle, while putting new tires on again, i also learned my floor boards are almost rusted through, and now i can not even drive my car because about 3 weeks ago it started sucking down oil ( 4 qts within a 3-6 hour time frame) and it's smoking bad out the tail pipe because of the head gasket/piston rings caused by a faulty pre-cat, and told i need to replace the engine. i see there is a recall for the 2.5l engine for this issue but on a 2006 model, what about my 2005 model with same engine?? searching the internet i find hundreds if not thousands of people having this same issues in 2002-2006 altima's, obviously there is a problem with these engines and nissan should be held accountable!! *tr

I own a 2005 nissan altima. i currently had an oil change at a local garage and was informed that my floor boards are rusted with holes starting to form. my car only has 85,000 miles and is kept in the garage and washed often. this is the only spot on my car that i have any rust. i contacted nissan about this issue and was informed that this is a common issue with the altimas. i had just had a sticker put on by nissan and also a 72 point inspection and was never informed by them that there was holes underneath my car! nissan said they would go half on the cost of repairing both front floorboards which would cost me $400.00 which i do not have. my main concern for this issue is come winter time, i will have holes through my floorboards and with two small children in my car, i am extremely conserned about having toxic fumes enter into my car which could lead to passing out or the fact that my foot could go right through the floor. this is a major safety issue and nissan should be backing up their products as this is a common issue with the manufacturing of their metal. *tr

I took my car in to get an oil change. while my car was on the lift we noticed a huge rust spot under the passenger side. they were able to easily put a screwdriver inside the hole and it lifted my carpet. and what i don't understand is that one month earlier my car was in the shop putting on new tierods and bushings, and there was no rust at all. so in one month the undercoating was gone and a huge rust hole appeared. i took my car to the dealer and they said my warranty was over and it would be about $900 to fix. this is crazy. i've never had any major problems with this car and it only has 62,000 on it. nissan needs to make this a recall because this is happening to alot of the altimas. this is a major safety problem. and if this is not resolved i will no longer be buying from nissan. *tr

I have recently discovered the driver and passenger side floor boards are severely rusted through to the bottom of the carpet! this is a serious safety hazard with potential for injury from stepping through and possible death from exhaust fumes causing unconsciousness while driving. there is absolutely no rust anywhere else on the car?! to my knowledge there are numerous consumer complaints about this very problem with no record of a recall on file to correct the structural problem of the vehicle. *tr
