Driving down the interstate at 65 mph when side/curtain airbags suddenly deployed for no reason.

On 10/16/10 my father was involved in a front end collission with a tree (center of bumber) while driving his 2004 nissan armada. a high degree of damage was sustained on the vehicle. he suffered from facial lacerations and bruising. the airbags in the armada did not deploy for some reason. we have begun the process of contacting nissan to report this. my guess is that he hit the tree doing at least 20 mph based on the damage (although my guess may not be correct).

The red airbag light flashes on the dashboard. i took it to two nissan dealerships and was told that it was most likely a failed sensor in the front passenger seat but could not be sure until it was replaced for approximately $1400.00 not refundable if that was not the problem. it could also be the restraint system associated with that seat. reportedly from both the dealers comments and my research on the internet this is a common problem with my vehicle type. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving approximately 25 mph, the air bags suddenly deployed without an impact or crash. he took the vehicle to the dealer and they kept it for three weeks. at the end of the three weeks, he received a recall notice from the dealer stating that the computer that diagnosed the vehicle indicated that it had been in a rollover crash. the contact took the vehicle back and called the insurance company. they inspected the vehicle and stated that the air bag defect had been a manufacturer issue and was not due to a rollover crash. the failure has not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were 55,532.

Failure of air bags to deploy. wife was involved in an auto accident, she was traveling at around 30 mph the other around 35 mph. her vehicle was considered a total loss. the force of the crash caused her to hit the steering wheel with her chest causing chest pain, busing and a possible back injury. the law enforcement, fire and emergency personnel on scene all indicated that the air bag system should have deployed. please help. *jb
AIR BAGS - FRONTAL

I own a 2004 nissan armada. about 2 weeks ago while driving the red airbag warning light turned on and would not turn off. i just had it serviced today and was told that the front crash zone airbag sensor being that it is located outside of the front radiator grill ends up rusting out from the elements of our weather. therefore it needed to be replaced. the car is out of warranty so therefore it was billable. after doing some research i came across a nissan recall from january 2009. the nhtsa campaign id # is 08v690000. this recall was for the exact same problem with the crash zone sensor rusting out from snow/salt in the northern us states but was only limited to 2005-2009 pathfinders, frontiers and xterra vehicles. i feel that my vehicle should be included in this recall due to the fact that it is the exact same problem listed in the recall and i live in ny state which obviously has winters with snow and salt. the recall issued a redesigned sensor to correct the problem at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. while driving approximately 45 mph the air bag light illuminated stating the air bag was deactivated while there was a passenger in the passenger seat. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnoses. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage 76,000. ds

 1) 130lb female adult sitting properly in the right front passenger seat is unable to engage the airbag system. no matter the seating position, e.g. upright, slouching or otherwise, the indicator light shows system is disabled. 2) vehicle was taken to local nissan dealer who was unable to diagnose a solution, suggesting that a greater weight was necessary to engage the airbag. 3) comparable vehicles, and nissan documentation show that weights under 60 lbs should disable the airbag feature. nissan is deficient and negligent in allowing this vehicle to be operating with a known serious defect.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 nissan armada. on 5 occasions, the air bag sensor control module was reset. on one of the attempts there was a bad connection to the battery and it failed to reset. the vehicle is currently at the dealer due to the failure. the recent failure and current mileages were 65000.

I purchase a new nissan armada in april of this year. when dring two weeks i noticed the passeneger air-bag light was going on and off. after contacting the dealership & nissan they told me that the seat would not go off unless the person weighed over 120 pounds which my wife is less than that. this information wasn't disclosed when purchasing the car or is it clearly stated in the manuel. i now have a car that my wife doesn't want to drive. there are many women that don't meet this weight requirement who will not be protected. *ak
