Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 armada, titan, infiniti qx56 and model year 2005-2006 frontier, pathfinder and xterra vehicles. the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) assembly contains an engine control module (ecm) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. the ecm relay may allow silicon vapor to form and, over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ecm relay contact due to arcing.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause engine stalling increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the ecm relay inside the ipdm assembly. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during december 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

On may 30, 2008, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation based on consumer complaints alleging that smoke and/or fire erupted in the engine compartment of model year (my) 2005-2006 nissan armada and titan vehicles.by letter dated june 24, 2008, nissan notified the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) that it will conduct a safety recall (nhtsa #08v284) for my2005-2006 nissan titan, armada and infiniti qx56 vehicles manufactured from march 17, 2005 to august 21, 2006 that are equipped with a 90-watt air conditioning condenser fan.the recall involves approximately 180,664 vehicles.this also includes approximately 5,689 subject condenser fans, some of which may have been installed in my2004 and pre-march 17, 2005 my nissan titan, armada or infiniti qx56 vehicles as a service replacement part.nissan dealers will install a special thermal protector kit on existing fans that will eliminate the potential for a fire to occur.nissan north america, inc. (nissan) informed odi that the 90-watt air conditioning condenser fan was manufactured out-of-specification allowing for excessive water intrusion and inadequate drainage of moisture that may accumulate in the motor as a result of water intrusion or condensation.if sufficient moisture accumulates in the motor without adequate drainage, corrosion may occur.the corrosion can cause an increase in internal friction and an increase in the electrical current draw, resulting in an increase in the temperature of the motor that could melt its wiring insulation and other plastic components and form a gas.if two wires without insulation touch each other and create a spark, this gas could ignite and result in a fire.the action taken by nissan is sufficient to resolve the issue raised by this investigation.accordingly, this investigation is closed.

On august 11 2010 , while i was driving with my 2 kids 6 and 2 yrs old , my 2006 nissan armada caught on fire , my kids and i were able to smell like something was burning, but we were not able to see any smoke or fire anywhere around us, it was about 5 minutes later that my daughter was able to see smoke coming from under the truck ,, she said the smoke went by her window , i looked thru my mirrors but i was not able to see anything , i looked at the temperature gauges on the dashboard eerything seemed to be working just fine , so i told my daughter if it was our car burning i supposed there would be an indicator that would tell us that something was wrong with the vehicle ,about 3 minutes later my daughter said she saw smoke again , so my first thought was to stop and check , make sure we were ok , i stopped a soon as i was able to get off the road and parked on a safe place. i stopped about 2 mins later after she told me . i turned the motor off and got ou of the truck ,, so i decided to go around and checked everywhere , when i started walking towards the front of the truck , right on front of the hood i could smell like burning very close and very strong smell , and the next thing i see as i knelt down right in front of the truck is the fan on fire . i could not believe what my eyes where looking at, so my first reaction was to go back in he car and get my kids out of the burning truck, right away she started to unbuckle her 2 yr old brother . we started running to get away from the fire , while i was calling 911.after the investigation it was determined that the fire was caused due to a manufacturer defect that the truck had on the cooling fan . that truck had a recall on june 2008 , of which i never had a notice of . until this day im still waiting on any kind of response from nissan.i bought the vehicle brand new so i was hoping that nissan would take any responsibilty for it , since they endagered our lives.and i the vehicle was a total loss.
