2006 nissan armada lost braking ability 2 times when this symptom happens. brake light comes on the dashboard, brake pedal goes all the way to the floor, and there is grinding noise from the front end toward the wheels. vehicle braking ability is reduced to 10% or less. turning ignition off/on resolves for short time, but not a permanent fix. nissan has tsb ntb06-040, but they want to charge for reprogramming the vdc control unit. *tr

My wife has experienced our nissan 06 armada losing braking power. it first started about a year ago and she didn't say anything because she thought it was just a brake issue. have had it to a brake shop on several occasions and have found nothing wrong. it has happened to me twice this week. i then went on a nissan forum and other internet sites to see that hundreds of people have had the same issue with nissan armada brake/abs issues. this is a major concern for us as an owner and should be to anyone reading this post. the brake light comes on while braking and it comes out of now where..i was on a flat surface heading to a red light... the abs kicked in and the braking power went to about 30 %. the brake pedal was only engaged about 1/3 of the distance and grinding started and continue till i came to a stop i had to manually shift down in order to stop at the red light. i set my flashers, turned the ignition off and got out.. didn't see or sense anything out of the ordinary other than i had very little braking power and brakes were grinding..turned the car back on and the lights went off and the brakes worked fine. i know the pads and rotors are good, just had them checked on my state inspection. this is alarming because this is my wife's car and she drivers our kids around in it... something needs to be done to keep this incident from becoming something much worse... i sense it is a sensor issue or something to do with that because it comes out of no where while braking. *tr

Brakes are making a noise and the abs, vdc and slip lights are coming up on the dashboard. we have tried turning on and off vehicle. this made the lights go off at first. we have checked brake fluid. we have had the brakes inspected. no visible reason for this to occur. i have seen numerous reports on this same problem. why is my vehicle not covered in the ntb06-040 recall? *tr

During normal driving brake light suddenly comes on. braking power is severely reduced and there is a loud mechanical noise. after turning the engine off the fault resets itself and disappears. this has happened twice in the last year. this is unpredictable and could easily cause a crash if it happened at the wrong time. *tr

I have been experiencing a problem with the brakes on my 2006 nissan armada. purchased 2006 armada less than 20 days ago,. since the 2nd week the brakes will make a scary noise (can't really describe it - grinding), the brakes work at about 10% and the brake light goes on. once the vehicle is turned off, the brake light goes out, the noise disappears and the brakes work at 100% once again. i recently googled the problem and see that there are hundreds of people with the same problem. i can believe that nissan is not doing anything with this issue. *tr

Driving my 2006 armada, and when i went to stop, there was a loud grinding noise, the brake light came on, and there was no braking power. i slowed to a stop and had to turn off the truck and back on and the noise and grinding was gone. drove it about 1 mile and went to slow down for a turn and the same thing happened with the grinding noise. once again, there was no braking pwer and when i restarted the truck, it went away again. why isn't anything being done for these 2006 armadas because this seems to happen quite frequently and someone is going to get killed if they can't get stopped in time!

When starting out from a parked position, sometimes the brakes will make a grinding noise when pressed. if you hit your brakes during this period there is a grind pulsating feeling in the breaks. i don't know if te brakes are really even working during this time, but the only the way to clear this is to somehow stop the car without destroying something and turning the car off and then restarting it. this seems to fix the problem. but it will intermittantly do it again in about a month or so. is nissan doing anything about this problem? i never really feel secure driving because i don't know if this will happen when i 'm at full speed and really need the brakes!

Recurring, intermittent brake issue with 2006 nissan armada off road se. parking brake light will come on resulting in severe shuddering in the vehicle that is more pronounced during braking. braking capability is reduced significantly resulting in a potentially dangerous situation, particularly due to the transient nature of the issue. vehicle must be turned off to reset condition. nissan dealership tried reprogramming vdc to fix which did not work. now they are looking at replacing brake boost actuator. based on my research, problem has been common in 2004 and later model armadas. *tr

I bought this 2006 nissan armada brand new. i have had the same problem with the brakes several times already. the brake light goes on and a griding noise comes out when i hit the brakes. i took it the nissan dealer and they said it sofware issue when it was still under warrantee and they upgraded the software and it worked for couple of years then again and again, i spend about $160 each time to correct the software now. this time they said it needs some parts and softwhere upgrade about $750, so i parked the car and i'm looking for other ulternatives. any one know of a recall related to this issue

Over the past couple of years, i have been experiencing a problem with the brakes on my 2006 nissan armada. every 3-6 months the brakes will make a scary noise (can't really describe it - grinding/clanking), the brakes work at about 10% and the brake light goes on. once the vehicle is turned off, the brake light goes out, the noise dissappears and the brakes work at 100% once again. so far it has not happened in a situation where i had to stop suddenly. if it does, there will be an accident, which could result in injuries or even death. i can't believe all the complaints that have been posted about this one same problem and there has not been a recall issued. i'm not sure what more the consumers can do, but i will be contacting nissan and others to see what more can be done.

I was driving home from work and i go to stop the vehicle and my brakes made shuttering and clanging noises. then i notice the brake light came on. every time i tried to stop i heard that noise and had a very difficult time stopping i almost ran into the back of another vehicle. i was about 20 miles from the dealer so i put my hazard light on and drove on the far left hand side of the freeway and proceeded to drive between 10 to 30 miles/hr in rush hour traffic until i got to the dealership. once i got to the dealer and explained my problem. he seemed to know what it was like he had experience dealing with that particular problem. the next day the dealer called me to explain that the delta sensor inside the brake booster had failed and it would cost me over $900.00.

As i was driving at stop and go traffic speeds of 25 mph or less, my brake light came on with a spongy feeling from the brake pedal as well as a grinding noise from the brakes. brought vehicle to sears and they did a brake inspection (mechanical) and found nothing wrong. paid for a brake inspection and they recommended replacement of brake pads but i had recently inspected brakes at another shop that did not recommend replacement. on 2/28/12, same problem occurred and i pulled to the side of the road and turned the car off, inspected brake fluid (sat) and started the engine back up with no signs of failure. took vehicle to my personal mechanic and code reader found c1179 delta stroke sensor fault. he reset it and problem has since gone away but i am weary of brake reliability in the future.

On multiple occasions my recently purchased 2006 armada has had an issue with the breaks where the break light comes on, there is a terrible grinding sound, & i lose about 75% of my break function. i only purchased this truck about 5 months ago & it has happened 3x. no telling how many times it happened to the previous owners. this is extremely dangerous. nissan fails to recognize this is happening even though a simple internet search will show 100s, if not 1000s of armada owners with the same issue. something needs done asap!! the dealership couldn't recreate the problem to fix it, but it's likely if they could, then they'd have to admit what was wrong & that it is nissan's fault. beware!!

While driving, the following indicator lights came on: vdc, abs and brake. when i applied the brakes, there was a horrible grinding noise which scared me to death. i continued on cautiously and fortunately it did not make the same sound the next time i braked. the nissan service department said it was a sensor that went bad and the abs brake system that possibly was bad. i paid over $500 to get it fixed and had to sign an agreement that what they did may not fix it, and if so, the brake booster would then need to be replaced at a cost of $1000. i found out afterwards that there had been a recall of the very same issue but not on my vehicle because the vin did not match the recall. very suspect.

I was operating my 2006 nissan armada and was traveling at highway speeds when i noticed that my brake light was on. i tested the brakes and immediately heard a grinding and popping noise and noises that indicated to me that the abs was activating off and on. the pedal was very soft and my braking effectiveness was severely diminished. had i needed to make a sudden stop or been expecting my brakes to react normally, i would not have been able to stop in a safe distance. i pulled to the side of the road and visually inspected the brakes and found no issues. i checked the brake fluid level and saw that it was fine (just below the max mark and well above the min). by this time my brake light, vdc off, and slip light were all illuminated. i shut the vehicle off then restarted it. the three lights were still lit, but the brakes were reacting normally. error code c1179 was pulled from the vdc module. eventually, the brake booster (with the delta stroke sensor) and the pressure sensors were replaced by the nissan dealership at my expense. i also found that many consumers have reported similar breaking issues on consumeraffaris.com. nissan armada forums describe similar issues with brake failures and warning lights. many take their car to a nissan dealership only to be told that a problem cannot be found. the following link displays over 25 pages of forums related to this issues with the nissan armada: http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/gtsearch.php?cx=partner-pub-7865546952023728%3ao3k5uc-i2bl&cof=forid%3a11&ie=utf-8&q=vdc+slip+brake&sa=search&siteurl=www.clubarmada.com%252fforums%252fshowthread.php%253ft%253d12666#1190 this thread details a crash that occurred due to brake failure on a nissan titan (same platform as the armada) where the driver was injured: http://www.titantalk.com/forums/titan-pictures-media-post/120896-death-family.html

I bought my nissan armada brand new in 2007. it is a 2006 model. the vehicle is very stylish but it is like a death trap. when the bumper to bumper warrenty ran out @ 36,000 miles, my brakes have been an issue. every year i have had to get brakes put on the armada and it has to be nissan brakes because i tried other brakes and they squeel and grind. now i have an rather scary situation. i was driving 25mph and put my brakes on and my suv started nose diving in the front end and the brake light came on, not to mention, the brakes would not work properly. it was catching and releasing about 4 times, each tim i would brake. i almost hit a car. i drove it to a mechanic right then, and they ran scan on the brake code since the light came on during this event. the code is c1179. apparently this is a dealer issue. i called the nissan dealership i bought the armada from and they told me i needed a software update for the abs system. really? this is not a recall issue? i have read several reviews and they are are having abs issues. come on nissan, how many lives have to be lost or injured before you recall this abs problem? why would they charge consumers $120 for a computer update to the system if it is clearly a manufactor defect... the other issues are: drivers side seat is ripping, poor material, the drivers side floor mat is sliding under the driver peddle, the blind spot is a severe issue on the left drivers side, paint chips easily, bad gas milage, radiator leaks, strut is bad on the passenger front side, whch is causing it to leak on the pavement when parked.

The brakes on our 2006 nissan armada has made a very loud grinding noise as you brake and the brake light comes on. this has happened on several occasions before. the lastest was this morning as i drove to work. it continued until i arrived at my parking space. once before when we heard this sound, we took it and had the brake pads changed and the mechanic told me to not have any armoral put on the tires, this might cause the sound as well (what?). anyway, the sound is like springs popping and as you brake, the brake pedal goes up and down and scrubs really loud. we've paid to have the pads changed and the new rotors. this really expensive. what's next?

I own a 2006 nissan armada suv and since i have owned it i have had 4 separate instances of little or no brakes issue. the dash brake light comes on and if you apply the brakes you hear and feel the abs system working...giving you little or no brakes when needed. i have research the issue and found many with the same problem with there nissan armada's. nissan is aware of the problem but no fix in place yet...and no recall. someone is going to get killed or kill other with there 6000lb suv that can't stop when this issue happens. i feel i should not have to pay for a service call on this issue...this is a safety issue! the brake system is fine 95% of the time...but you never know when this will pop up and you have no brakes! if the suv is shut off and restarted it goes away and drives and brakes normal....till whatever triggers this issue shows up again at some point in the future. nissan needs to get this fixed and have a recall asap! i love my nissan but this scares me! my wife drives this suv most of the time with our 4 kids in it. some have had a tbs done to the suv but it comes back over time. how do we go about getting this fix?

While driving my 2006 taking my nine year old to boyscout meeting i applied my brakes to stop at a red light and several lights came on on my dashboard. the lights included abs, brake light and some other lights. the vehicle made a loud grinding like sound and the brakes seem to go out. i did not know what to do so i slowed down and sat frantically at the light. theni slowly pulled over in the parking lot os a shopping center and stopped my vehicle. i sat there for about fifteen minutes. i then started the car back up and preceded to my destination. nothing happened after this. about one month i experienced the same type of bdreaking problem. i took it to our local nissan shop they found nothing to be wrong.

I own a 2006 nissan armada le. it has recently had serious braking problems, it is intermittent, it doesn't happen consistently. approx. 2 weeks ago i was driving home with my children in the truck, i went to apply the brakes and they did not engage at all. i had no braking power, then it started making grinding noises but i still could not stop in a safe manner. my husband looked at the car and we switched keys-meaning we turned the truck off then on again. after the truck was turned off the brakes began to perform normally. we took the truck to les schwabb and they couldn't find anything wrong with the brakes but they bled the system and put new fluid in. it has happened several times since and the fix is always turning the truck off. i and my children were put in a very dangerous position on a major road. i looked on the internet and there are pages and pages of people that have had the same problem with their 2006 armada's. nissan needs to recall these vehicles immediately and fix this problem before more people are injured.

While driving low speeds the abs system failed and numorous indicator lights lite up on the dash cluster panel. the brake pedal itself was vibrating and required more effort to stop the vehicle. during the issue, turning off the vehicle completely and restarting usually resolves the issue until the next time. this has occured over 40-50 time. contacting the dealership resulted in a $500 bill to flush the brake system and re-surface the brake rotors. the issue still pursists.

While driving the emergency brake light comes on. if you hit your brakes during this period there is a grind pulsating feeling in the breaks. very very unsure braking when that happens. the only the way to clear this is the somehow stop the car without destroying something and turning the car off and then restarting it. this seems to fix the problem. but it will intermittantly do it again in about a month or so. what's the deal?

I was driving one day with my 3 kids in the car and the vdc slip and brake light came on out of no where. i contacted the dealer and i brough the vehicle in to have it checked after paying for them to diagnosis it they said they found nothing wrong with it. the light continued to ccome on several times and each time i would take it in and they would say nothing was wrong. one particular day i was driving with my 3 kids and i went to stop and the brakes began to do a pulsing action and sounded as though they were grinding and the car would not stop. i started to cry and panic because i had all of my kids in the car and had no idea what to do so i put the car in neutral and let the car roll and just pulled away from traffic as much as i could. finally i pulled into a parking lot where i hit the breaks and emergency break to make it stop. i placed the car in park and was terrified to drive after that so i contacted the dealer and asked if i could bring it in immediately. once at the dealer i was told again nothing was wrong and that my brakes were fine and they did not find anything. the same thing happen to me 2 more times and still no one seems to find anything wrong. my brakes have been replaced and each time i press on them i am terrified that the car is not gonna stop. the brakes always feel as though they aren't gonna stop and they have an uneasy feeling when you press them. i cannot claim the car as a lemon because i bought it used with 29,000 miles which is not alot. i feel that there is a defect in the brake system for the nissan armada because my car did not have alot of miles when this started and it is still having issues.

For about the last 6 months we have experienced a half dozen times or so an issue with brakes not working properly. the brakes pulsate when pushed as though the abs is kicking in, grinding is felt and heard and braking only barely works. this only seems to occur at lower (non-freeway) speeds and the issue usually corrects itself upon shutting the engine off and restarting. appears our issue is to tsb ntb06-040, but i am not sure at this point. going to try to get it in to the dealership this week and hopefully get this issue fixed. i have researched this issue on the net and it seems to be a common issue (see complaint #s below) with some people having accidents. my wife normally is the driver and carrying my 3 year old twins....what will it take for this issue to have a recall??? complaint #'s that appear similar (just some examples) 10204163 10245831 10245775 10243828 10243182 10238148 10223304 10204203 10262576 additionally, please see threads below for other documentation of people having this issue: http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=918 http://www.clubarmada.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8776. *tr

Sometime in mid august 2008, my wife and daughter were out running errands in our 2006 armada. she came home and told me about the brake light coming on, severe front end shuddering as she applied the brakes and difficulty stopping. i went out to the vehicle, turned it on, the brake light was not on. i drove the vehicle around for about 20 minutes with no problems. i did slow even stops, hard emergency type stops, braking around corners. not a single problem. i checked the brake fluid, it was slightly above the minimum line, so i topped it off with the prescribed brake fluid. the car operated just fine until sept 12, 2008 at approx. 4:50 pm when at 40 mph i approached a two way stop sign, applied the brakes, and nothing happened, i frantically pumped the brakes, until the wall in front of me was close and i instinctively put my hands in front of my face. the vehicle hit the curb at a 90 degree angle, jumped the curb, crashed through a safety sign, and then crashed through a 18-24 sewer line that had yet to be buried. in fact the armada almost rolled as it was riding on top of a piece of the severed sewer line. i called 911, and then smelled gasoline. hazmat was called because the fuel line was ruptured by the sign going underneath the vehicle. luckily nobody was coming the other way. i was transported via ambulance, diagnosed with a deep chest contusion from the seat belts. air bags did not deploy. as of this writing on 10/17/08 nissan of north america is still reviewing the results of the independent 3rd party they sent out to test the car. they have told me this review by their engineering and legal departments could take several more weeks. *tr

My 2006 nissan armada had serious brake failure while traveling in a parking lot at less than 15 mph. the brake pedal seized and the abs kicked on, the dash vibrated and the braking power dropped to almost nothing. the car was very difficult to stop even at such a low rate of speed. after stopping and turning the car off the problem seemed to disappear. i refuse to drive the vehicle again until the dealer fixes the problem. current mileage is just over 32,000 and the problem occurred at 31,980 miles. *tr

May 08 took truck in for oil change complained of brakes making noise. i was told brakes look fine. aug 10 car made noise as i was turning left, brake petal went all the way to floor before it would stop. dealership said calipers were worn out and sticking. truck has 48000 miles they said brakes were being eaten up by calipers. they want 1,800.00 to fix truck. i could not get a straight answer on why calipers would malfunction this early. i call nissan to complain about calipers, i was told it was out of warranty and therefore they could not help me. *tr

September 25, 2007 my 2006 nissan armada 4x2 lost braking power. i was traveling on a quiet road near the nissan dealership so i took my foot off the gas and rolled to a stop. deland nissan said the delto sensor malfunctioned and had to be reprogramed. they also replaced the brake booster. i was told by the service manager, bill warfield, that this has occured to other owners and is the solution given by nissan. the problem has been rectified on the 2008 nissan armadas. ther is no recall, even though this is occuring to other armada owners. this is a life threatening defect. how can nissan be made to recall these vehicles before someone is killed? *tr

In the past 6 months intermittently the brake light comes on and the brakes pulsate when pushed on and there is no control of the brakes. i took it into the dealership yesterday when it started again and it turned out to be the vdc unit needed to be reprogrammed. the computer gave them the code c1179. *jb

When pushing the brake pedal i was getting a bad shaking vibration in the steering wheel and front of vehicle was pulling real bad to the left. i took my vehicle to the nissan dealer where it was originally purchased upon picking my vehicle up the nissan service advisor informed me that the rotors were resurfaced and new brake pads were installed. he also stated that this was a problem with the 2004 & 2005 models but was not suppose to be an issue with the 2006 models. it has been 2 months now since i had this problem and i am getting the same problem again. *nm
