Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 armada, titan, infiniti qx56 and model year 2005-2006 frontier, pathfinder and xterra vehicles. the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) assembly contains an engine control module (ecm) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. the ecm relay may allow silicon vapor to form and, over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ecm relay contact due to arcing.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause engine stalling increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the ecm relay inside the ipdm assembly. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during december 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
NotesOwners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov .

The seal between the engine coolant and transmission fluid portions of the radiator fails, contaminating the transmission fluid with coolant water. causing my engine to slip when changing 1st and 2nd gear. i just found out about this problem when i received a letter that there was a class action lawsuit about this problem. nissan knew about this problem and fail to notify owner of the this problem in a timely matter. if i had known this problem then i would have replace the radiator instead of having to replace my whole transmission causing me thousands of dollars. *tr

Camshaft sensors (cps?) replaced today at dealer. friday my truck stalled as i pulled into a highway at night. almost got broadsided by tractor trailor truck. these sensor failures cause a rapid stall under power and hard starting after the stalls. last month i had the crankshaft sensors replaced as well. before that the ipdm relay recall gave me problems. i'm still fighting to get my fuel sending unit replaced (nissan will only cover customers that spend a lot of money at the dealers, i was told this by nissan!). i've had the rear end, transmission and radiator, driveshaft and propeller shaft replaced due to failed u-joints. axle seals (on the new rear) are leaking again i understand a clogged vent may be to blame. tire pressure sensors are shot and catalytic converters shot. get this company to recall some of this stuff and force them to pay to fix this junk before someone gets killed! *tr

When starting the vehicle a whining clicking noise is noticeable until vehicle is at normal operating temperature . after investigating this problem on the internet i learned that this is not an isolated occurrence and nissan motor corporation is well aware that this is a manufactures defect in there v6 motors at the timing chain guides but refuses to take responsibility to address and fix this problem and expects the owner of the vehicle to pay for nissan motor corporation defective timing chain guides that end up dropping downward out of their original position that causes timing chain failure . i paid 24000 dollars for this truck brand new from metro nissan in ontario calif, for that kind of money nissan should treat there customers better and take responsibility for there mistakes and be held accountable to fix this defect.. i will never by a nissan again and i will never recommend purchasing a nissan to anyone if this doesn't become a recall! *tr

The transmission has been compromised due to a faulty radiator. the radiator leaked coolant into the transmission contaminating the transmission fluid. i noticed the vehicle would occasionally shudder and when i had it checked out discovered the problem. hard to believe nissan did practically nothing to notify owners of the problem because it sure was evident that the local nissan dealership was aware of the problem as well as a couple of transmission shops i've visited. *tr

Hasn't happened yet, but from all the complaints from 2005-2010 nissan pathfinder, xterra and frontier owners concerning major transmission failures while driving due to cross contamination from a failed transmission fluid line running through the radiator, it's only a matter of time. this defect has been known by nissan for years and as a band-aid solution offered extended warranty coverage for these specific components to 8 years/80,000 miles, knowing full well most problems have a record of occurring just after 100,000 miles. class action law suits against nissan for this defect are now pending in the state of new york. this defect and nissan's lack of concern for preventative action placed this in the 2nd worst problem on carcomplaints.com top vehicle problem trends of 2012 list. as more and more of these model years approach 100,000 miles, more and more catastrophic failures with potential for injury and loss of life will occur. repair after the failure is quite expensive; enough to warrant scrapping the vehicle for those that can't afford the repair bill. time to hold nissan accountable for the problem they have created and allowed the public to bear responsibility for. a recall of all affected models to install an improved automatic transmission line in the oil cooler or rerouting the line to a different add-on oil cooler is needed. *tr

My nissan was having issues so i took it to my mechanic. he informed me that nissan was having an issue with a part that wore out and leaked coolant into transmission and transmission fluid into the radiator. i called my local dealership to see if it was recalled. they informed me i was a few thousand miles over my warranty and they could do nothing. i then saw the multitude of complaints about this issue and the dealership said nissan paid for some vehicles out of warranty. that alone proves they knew about this issue. i paid for a new radiator ($600) and hoped for the best with my transmission. i am in the navy so i can't afford to replace the transmission. now my luck has run out and i can no longer drive my vehicle. i have a 3 month old at home and need to have two cars for my wife. this is an issue nissan knows about and it is due to a faulty part they installed. it could have been fixed ahead of time and solved a lot of issues. when is there going to be a recall? people are getting stranded and nissan and the government knows. does someone need to die for you to notice and act? it would seem that people being stranded and spending thousands of dollars because of a manufacturing defect is not enough. i need to know if i have to go try to buy another car or wait and hope my government protects us. *tr

My 5-speed automatic 2006 nissan frontier's radiator cooler tank ruptured forcing coolant into the transmission through the transmission cooler lines causing catastrophic failure at 92000 miles on the odometer (12000 miles outside the extended warranty on the faulty radiator). this is apparently an uncommon, but known problem with nissan truck and suv models. i was traveling at 65 mph on interstate 70 near frederick, maryland when the transmission failure occurred. i lost all forward momentum but was able to maneuver the truck to the shoulder before causing an accident. i had it checked by an independent shop in mount airy, maryland and they quoted the replacement of the radiator and transmission at $4350. after making inquires with the nissan dealership where i bought the car new in 2006, their initial estimate was between roughly $6000 - $10000 for replacement of the radiator and transmission! they were able to negotiate down with nissan corporate and the final cost of replacement of the radiator and transmission was $3000. my transmission failed without any sign or warning at 65 mph on a 3 lane interstate - the financial burden to fix the problem hurts, but it could have gone much worse. *tr

My truck began to shake and tremble when i was trying to back into my drive way. the truck had been making noises and i had taken the truck in to be check by 3 different mechanics. i was told that they could not find anything and one stated he heard the noise but did not know what it was. the truck continue to make the noise of a grinding and shuttering sound. did not drive but to work and home due to the problems. the noise would stop when the overdrive was turned off. lately the truck sounds like the transmission is going. the fuel gauge does not work. it was in a recall but nissan would not repair even though i was mailed the recall after my mileage was too high for the repair which makes no sense to me because if they sent the notice out late, what does my mileage have to do with their neglience to repair their faulty vehicles? could not repair, the cost was over $600. had to replace a wheel bearing, over $400. tire gauge light on. i have had nothing but trouble with this truck. i will never purchase another nissan product. when dealing with the nissan recall people i felt as though they could care less. working on a fix budget and unable to pay for high cost of repair. what can you do when the big companies refuse to repair their trucks and cars? i was informed there was noone to help me. have run out of gas several time due to the gas gauge. i have read other's complaints on nissans and i am surprise that noone forces them to repair their vehicles. this is my only form of transporation and without the repairs, i will be riding the bus. tired in virginia. thanks for listening.

I purchased the vehicle in 2007 with 40,000 miles on it. it has been shimmying on the highway since i hit 60,000 miles and in spite of having my tires re-aligned and balanced, it still continues to rock back and forth at speeds over 50 miles an hour. i just hit my 100,000 mile mark on the first of october. on october 18th, i was at my son's daycare and the truck started idling strangely. the truck was puttering and exhausting black smoke. it died in the parking lot and i tried numerous times to get it started. it took about 20 minutes of trying but i got it running again, only to have it die on me in traffic. once again, i got it started and managed to get it home where it completely died. when i was able to get it to the dealership (after a local mechanic looked at it and couldn't get it started) the dealership told me i had an engine idle air control sensor that was recalled by nissan. i never received the recall notice but was relieved that my bill was covered. less than a week after the sensor had been replaced, the check engine light came on. i brought it back to the dealership and they told me my catalytic converters had burned out. from what i have been able to research online, the failure of my catalytic converters is directly related to an out of tune engine (too much air or fuel) which was caused by the sensor being defective. nissan doesn't see it that way and now i'm stuck with a $3500 repair bill on a truck i still owe money on and have owned for less than four years.

I own a 2006 nissan frontier, it was delivered with only half the keys programmed for the vehicle, a strange rattling of plastic shrouding in the engine compartment and as i found out a fast set of tires later, the front end out of alignment [ too much toe in ]. when i read the manual i found out that my 4wd vehicle was not intended to be used off of the road, this was not in any of the presales literature and the reason i buy 4wd is so i can use it off road. at 100 miles after warranty i had to take it in because the fuel sending unit had failed, about a $600 repair on a part that should last 200,000 miles. the mechanic told me their dealership is replacing about one of these a week on a couple of models. when i picked it up i got the trouble light on the way home, i scanned it to see what the problem was [code po448 ]. i took it back. the first canister they ordered showed up broken [ kind of fragile for something mounted on the bottom of a 4wd ]. parts replaced under the emissions warranty were 14953zp50c filter-canister, 14950-ea20a canister assy. e, and 14935-am60b valve assy.-co. the service order says ...inspected/found no flow very rusty..... as the vehicle only has 36,000 miles on it this does not bode well for the future. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan frontier. while driving down the road the truck shudders and shakes and cannot shift into gear. i had no pick up while driving on the interstate and had cars speeding by me at 75mph while i was barely able to drive the truck. the truck would drive fine and than this would happen out of nowhere. i took it to aamco and found out i had water in the transmission due to a leak in the radiator. i had to pay $2500.00 to have my transmission rebuilt and a new radiator installed. i feel this should be a recall on nissans part because it was a faulty radiator that caused the problem and could have caused a severe accident. i have heard of alot of complaints regarding this same problem but nissan refuses to due a recall. i have the same fuel gauge problem that was just recalled and i ran out of gas because of it. i feel that this needs to be investigated before someone is killed in an accident because their transmission just stops working while driving on the interstate. *tr

Purchased a used 2006 nissan frontier 9/18/09 from fresno acura. approx 2 weeks later i drop it back off at the dealership, due to the heater not working & a shudder in the transmission. findings radiator/transmission oil cooler ruptured and fluid leaked into transmission & vice versa, i found out that transmission fluid was going into radiator. dealership would not honor transmission warranty due to the radiator not being under warranty and transmission contamination was effected by radiator . this is so wrong, unjust and corrupt. possible damage ranges from $3000-$6000. a consumer should not be responsible to pay this for this kind of damage that was affected by a defective part that should of been recalled or corrected. a person pays approx $23,000 for a new vehicle and should not have to dish out another 3 -4 thousand dollars on a 3 yr old vehicle . this is bad business and will give the nissan a very bad reputation. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan frontier. while driving at an unknown speed, the engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel. the vehicle would sporadically stall. speed was not a factor during the failures. after the vehicle would stall, it would take a long time to automatically restart. the dealer could not duplicate the failure and provide a remedy. the vehicle was inspected by a mechanic, who stated that the gasoline delivery pump was potentially defective. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but because it exceeded the warranty, they would not repair the vehicle for free. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 15,000 and current mileage was 71,853.
