About 2 weeks ago i started to feel as if the truck was not shifting correctly, soon after that the check engine light came on and i brought it right in to our regular service station. a diagnostic check revealed code p0717 for a turbine revolution sensor and i was told to take it to the dealer. the nissan dealer did their own diagnostic (no test drive) and found it to be a bad value body, as well as bad timing chain and tensioners, and replacement of all 6 coil packs, along with a few other general findings gave me an estimate of nearly 5 thousand dollars. the 2 diagnostic checks have cost me close to $250. i was in shock and did not have the ability to pay for the repairs up front, so i took the truck to 2 other service stations, one being aamco who specializes in transmissions. none of the 3 other stations found any other issues aside from the transmission. aamco after a test drive and diagnostic check determined there was an issue but would need to remove the transmission to determine the extent of the problem. aamaco found there to be water being pumped into the transmission, and also claimed it was the 3 problem of this type they had seen so far this month. apparently the radiator leaks water into the transmission. the fix is a rebuilt transmission and separate cooler for the transmission to assure this won't happen again. at a cost of 3200 to me! this particular aamco is across from the dealer and claims that have done work for the dealership to fix the same problem! i also received a letter back in oct. /nov. indicating a possible radiator problem and an offer of an extended warranty. nothing was mentioned of the damage that could occur to the transmission! i feel cheated, and in my research have found this to be a very common problem. nissan should stand by their product and do the right thing by their customers!

While i have not yet had a failure, or crash i have been notified by nissan that my truck's transmission may fail suddenly making the vehicle inoperable. this is a concern as i occasionally use the vehicle for commuting to work on the interstate highway system and fear i would be subject to injury or death if i have a sudden failure and there is no place to pull safely off the road. i also use the truck to go deep into the maine wilderness to fish and hunt and fear if the transmission fails, i could be stranded dozens of miles from the nearest help, putting my health and safety at risk. *tr

Trouble light came on, vehicle needs service soon. attempted to drive vehicle to garage and engine would not start. shop indicate that there was coolant in the transmission fluid and the transmission and engine control module fuses had blown. nissan dealer said that transmission, radiator, transmission and engine control modules needs to be replaced. he is unable to start the engine and indicates that there may be necessary to do other repairs. the estimated cost of repairs at this point is $8500. *tr

Nissan frontier; truck pick up an vibration that turn into alot of jerking.t alk to the dealer about it,they said to check trans fluid to see if it had a strawberry color to it. if so the radiators was probably cracked and that coolant seep into the trans causing server trans failure. have no warrenty.computer in trans is damage. now valve body got to be replace with computer board along with all new clutches and radiator going to cost around 5 grand to fix. *tr

I was driving on the interstate in overdrive and the truck came out of gear and the engine revved high in rpms. i had to turn overdrive off to get the truck to drive in 4th gear. i took the truck to a transmission shop and they explained coolant from the radiator had gotten into the transmission. they exchange the fluid but explained the transmission may need to be rebuilt if a lot of damage has been done. i was able to drive it for a week more shifting normally. i came to a stop at a red light after a week and when pressing the gas the truck would barely creep forward through the intersection. when the truck was turned off it would not crank back up and it is currently in the transmission shop waiting for parts because of a shortage of needed parts due to the pervasiveness of this issue. *tr

Nissan radiator/transmission cooler needs to be replaced at a cost of $3,000 for vehicles up to 100,000 after a class action suit was done. nissan is acknowledging the problem and i feel this should be cause of a recall and that nissan should pay the full cost to replace. this cost represent 1/2 of the kelly blue book value on the vehicle. the vehicle is non-operable. the cost also represents about 15% of what the vehicle was originally purchased for. after speaking with nissan consumers affairs, they say there is nothing else to but to contact you to try to change it to a full recall. *tr

As i am driving, the transmission will not shift at 40 mph. i pull over and find out that it will not go into reverse, either. i drive over to the nissan dealership and find out that the part of the radiator that connects to the tranny has cracked and dumped all of the radiator fluid into the tranny, killing it. i need a new radiator and transmission. nissan is covering the costs (for repairs but not alternate transportation for the week that it is taking to fix this) but upon returning home and looking online, i found out that nissan has known about this problem for about 5 years and instead of doing a recall (costing lots of money), they extended the warranty on the radiator assembly from 3 years/36,000 miles to 8 years/96,000 miles hoping that problems will occur after that time and then they are off the hook for repairs. how dangerous could this have been under different circumstances. i am angry and disgusted with the way nissan has handled a problem they know could have caused a serious safety risk. *tr

Husband traveling on northwest expressway in oklahoma city, ok. stopped at the light in midst of 6 lanes of five o'clock traffic. the vehicle quit. he could not re-start it or safely get out of the vehicle. he used his cell phone to call farmers' help point towing company. thinking it was the battery, we had it towed home. we replaced the battery with a new one and bought jumper cables. this did not fix it. we called our neighborhood mechanic and had it towed to their shop. he let us know it was the radiator assembly and that we would have to take it to a transmission shop. he gave my husband a fuse to get the vehicle to them without using another towing service. i called the nissan dealer where we bought the vehicle after seeing that this is a known issue to nissan (see nissanassist.com). they refused to fix the issue and said we had no warranty help because the mileage was over 100k. they told us to call the nissan consumer service and gave us their number. i called them and they could not help--even when i talked to the supervisor. i quoted nissan's words--asking if nissan did not stand behind the commitment on their site: nissan is committed to providing an outstanding vehicle ownership experience for all our customers. she told me she is a contractor working for a company hired by nissan and did not know. of course, we did not take the vehicle back to nissan to be repaired, but took it to aamco transmission, who charged us $5,700.00 for the repairs and warranty on the work. with the battery, jumper cables, towing charges and the first mechanics' bill--we paid $6,340.00--having to borrow $6k to resolve this issue. by the time we are finished paying off this loan, the cost will be closer to $10,000.00. if anyone can do something about this--please do--this known problem by nissan, cost us close to a quarter of our yearly income. *tr

This report is submitted with regard to a potential problem with this vehicle. nissan has sent out a notice that this vehicle has a manufacturing defect. the radiator has a weakness so that it may begin leaking internally, which will contaminate the transmission and bring failure of the vehicle to accelerate, or in the most serious state, failure to move in traffic. nissan has sent a flimsy warranty extension that is only effective should this catastrophe occur. i am now reluctant to drive said vehicle, fearing breakdown and possible fatality in a highway situation. nissan should be forced to issue a recall to repair this manufacturing defect before total breakdown occurs. at this point i have talked to a local nissan dealer, and they basically say their hands are tied to help the consumer, due to nissan corporate decisions. please help hundreds of thousands nissan owners (2005-2010 frontier, pathfinder, xterra) and mandate a recall to repair this potentially dangerous problem.

On july 2011 had to pay for new transmission for my truck after the radiator leaked in to the transmission, talked with nissan and tried to get them to stand behind it and they said they would have if the truck was, in side the new warranty they had put out but i was at 91611. they know what is wrong and how to fix this. they have to put the transmission cooler on the out side of the radiator about $ 200.00 fix.this replace cost, me more than $ 6000.00 to get fixed. now at 97980 miles we are back at the shop having the same thing, done over again, this time they are covering after i had to have a out side tech come in and prove that this was happening again. the first said it had to be replaced and then they had another one check it and said i was hearing the tires and the transmission was good. i would not pick up my truck because the 12 month warranty was about to run out on july 26 2012 . after the out side tec checked it out and said the transmission had coolant mixed with it they ordered every thing new again...should not have had to pay for the first one.. *tr

Both left and right axles seals failed causing gear oil to saturate the rear disc brake pads, rotor and emergency brake shoes. extreme decreased braking, which could have led to an accident. this is a true safety problem, which seems to be quite common with the frontier and titan pick-ups.

Transmission failed while driving in very busy traffic. maximum 20 mph, while everybody else was driving 55+ mph. transmission failed without warning leaving my son and i scared to death- if i had been merging into interstate traffic we would have been run over, maybe even killed. nissan refuses to acknowledge issue with the radiator/transmission fluid cooling system. i hope nobody dies as a result of the defect or the situation it can put an unknowing driver in.

The radiator in the vehicle ruptured, allowing coolant into transmission. this led to loss of power, hard shifting, and slippage while accelerating. contacted nissan, they informed me warranty had been extended but i was 1,600 miles over their arbitrarily extended limit. they suggested i contact the dealer for assistance. the delaer repeated that it was outside of warranty period, and estimated repair costs at $7000. i took truck to local shop, who quoted $5500, and now find out that the transmission parts are on backorder and i will be without my work vehicle for about 1 month. nissan is clearly aware of this driveline failure issue, but they are attempting to push off the cost of their faulty parts onto the consumer, rather than remedy what is a costly and potentially very dangerous defect.

The transmission cooler located in the radiator failed and now radiator has transmission fluid in it and the transmission has water in it. both are ruined and dealer says it is $9000. apparently this is a known defect only covered up to 80000 miles and nissan needs to fix this. if it was a known issue, it could have been fixed for a few hundred bucks. thank you

Purchased vehicle new with 6spd manual transmission. at roughly 4k miles an intermittent noise was noticed and perceived to be coming from the dash cluster. at 7.8k miles truck was serviced as noise became more prevalent. dealer made repairs to dash cluster by inspecting and sound proofing area. at 9k miles noise had returned and was sent to a different dealer. they too troubleshoot and insulated the cluster. noise continued off and on until a return to the dealer for repairs at 14.5k miles. dealer at this time couldn't replicate issue. after owner of truck performed their own extensive online research the determined the noise to be coming from the clutch and transferring to the pedal on the drivers side. driver returned to dealer with new description of problem and suggesting of throw out bearing inspection. upon inspection dealership said that there was abnormal amount of clutch material on top of throwout bearing and was from the driver's driving habit. they want $1000 just to drop transmission and inspect clutch then more $ to replace clutch. from researching online, this is a common problem for nissan 6spd transmission on the 05+ frontiers and xterras. nissan won't warrant the item because it is considered a wear item. many consumer have noticed the noise from the day they purchased vehicle and others have had complete clutch failure at less than 15k, sometimes as little as 5k miles. how, other than factory defect, could this happen? noise was noticed at 4k miles originally. owner is concerned for safety where if the transmission/clutch fails under certain circumstances the vehicle will be rendered useless putting the driving into harms way. i.e. train tracks, oncoming traffic, emergency vehicles. the problem could leave the driver defenseless and unable to maneuver out of deadly situation. *tr

On 01-13-2011 i was driving my 2007 nissan frontier pick up on pa sr 92s. between nicholson and tunkhannock abs and slip warning lights came on. i called my nissan dealer immediately, explained the problem and dificulties i had handling the vehicle on the snow covered road. i was told that earliest appointment i could get was 01-20-2011. on my way back, when i drove on another snowy road i applied 4x4 system but it failed to engage. now the abs, slip and 4x4 did not work and i had hard times to make it safely home. i called the dealer again a was again told that i could get it fixed on 01-20-2011. i decided to report this problem and i hope that your investigation of my complain will make driving, especially winter driving of nissan vehicles safer.

First noticable complaint is the automatic transmission that does not shift back down in lower gear when climbing a hill. it jerks and shakes at that moment.secondly, the tire pressure sensor does not go off after correcting the tire pressure and keeping it costant. were told the dealer will have to reset, which they did once and it happened again so for 2 years we have just lived with it, keeping check on tire pressure the old way. last but definitely not least for this is the cost factor involved, is the alignment cannot be done due to needing to purchase and have installed 4 camber kits! nissan should have done this already for a $25,000 vehicle!! oh and finally this just happened but the rear passenger power window switch went completely out!

2007 nissan frontier automatic crewcab (21,000 miles) - the truck does not downshift automatically when slowing while climbing a slight hill. this began when the truck was new. the truck begins to jerk when slowing just as a manual trans vehicle jerks when driving too slow while in 4th gear. to force the trans to downshift i would press the accelerator pedal a little more. the dealer said it's normal but i have never experienced this event in any vehicle i've driven and does not seem normal to me. *tr

The rear axles on my 2007 nissan frontier began leaking grease at some point. the fluid leaked on the rear brakes, causing potential brake problems if and eventual failure if gone unnoticed. upon further research, there is a tsb for the problem as well as several other models affected, including the titan, and xterra.

Purchased new 2007 nissan frontier-v-6, long wheel-base truck. expierienced brake problem at 20k miles, replaced by dealer, had low speed whine and brake pedal drop to floor and 35 to 40 mph judder and vibration. went back to dealer, they checked and noticed the drive shaft was comming apart, they replaced with new one, idicated it was defective from vendor. i have had this truck back into dealer four times since with the same re-occuring problems. they can't find the source or the problem. zone mgr. for midwest drove the vehicle and indicated that they can't find the problem and they will not replace anything else. i was told to take it to the bbb if i wanted a solution under current lemon laws. he also indicated it will probably fall apart down the road-complete and utter dis-regard for my safety. they are in complete denial that they have a problem with this vehicle. is it just now that toyota had a recall for broken/cracked yokes on tacoma's and nissan is exempt? don't they all buy parts from dana corp.? nissan has experienced a large sales surge and are expanding just like gm had in the 70's. they don't have time/talent to take care of their problems just more new vehicles, more engineering problems, push it out the door and let the dealers take care of problems. this somehow has a familiar ring to it like toyota's problem with acceleration! keep relieing on electronic controls to run the vehicles and take away control fromthe driver. the auto companies need to be investigated further for safety compliance as madison avenue commercials alude to the fact that all of these safety features that are incorporated into vehicles work flawsley when they actually don't! how many more people have to be killed or seriously injured with these so-called safe vehicles, made in usa with cheap china made parts! i'm sure there are more vehicles out on the road with these same re-occuring problems not being replaced or repaired due to mfgr. defects and problems!!!

Within a few months of purchasing my 2007 nissan frontier, i noticed a disturbing grinding noise coming from behind my dash board. when i brought this to the attention of my dealership, they informed me that if they could not replicate this noise at the time, there was nothing that could be done. afterwards, the noise was only more noticeable. i searched the internet for other people with similar problems. it turns out that the noise coming from behind the dashboard was being produced by a defective clutch. i saw at least 5 to 10 of the same exact complaints and their dealings with service that determined the clutch problem. at this time, i was quite worried about the condition of my vehicle. it is very dangerous to have a defective clutch on any car, let alone a 2 plus ton truck. the ramifications are endless: getting stuck on railroad tracks, at an intersection, crashing into another vehicle... the dealership would continue to misdiagnose or not diagnose the problem. i made several complaints while the vehicle was under warranty. i provided them with evidence that the vehicle did have a defective clutch and even drove a technician around in the vehicle to reproduce the noise that they did not hear. i was informed that it would be covered under warranty by a service advisor. while they had the vehicle, a different person informed me 2 days later that they inspected the clutch, found it to be worn, and that i was responsible for it. i was able to do nothing except pay for the repair to get my truck back. nissan informed me that i should sue, because there was nothing they could do. in conclusion, a defect that was noticed at approximately 2,000 miles ended up costing me over $2,000.00 and potentially my life while the defect was dismissed and misdiagnosed. being that there are dozens of people with the same problem, i would have assumed that this problem would have been rectified without this much turmoil. *tr
