| Car starting shifting extremely hard when changing from 1st to 2nd gear thought i was rear ended. proceeded to research and came across many owners of this make model and year having the same issue and now as i change gears to park it idles for a few seconds then changes extremely loud and make a banging noise. i'm extremely worried for my safety due to the fact i commute back and fourth to work far distances and i bought this car at the nissan dealership with confidence my car only has 101,000 miles and its a 2004 so it hasn't been abused. | |||

| The car started shaking and would not accelerate, the service engine soon light was now displayed. need to get off the road and have it towed. the ground wire was broken off the transmission and caused the computer to short out as well as all of the six ignition coils as too much voltage was sent to the coils. nissan knows about the problem but did not issue any recall. this can also cause a fire in the car if the wires heat up and catch the evap system; therefore i would recommend issuing a recall of this problem. | |||

| I have a 2004 maxima sl with 90,000(mi) as i was driving on a rainy day i noticed the passenger front mat was getting wet when i got home i removed the mat and carpet and to my surprised i found a sizable rust hole in the floor passenger side . i took the car to the dealer and informed the manager of my discovery she told me that she was going to contact nissan and find out what to do. in the mean time i stopped by a few autobody shops to get quotes on fixing it i tried 5 shops and most of them refuse to touch it because is a structural part of the vehicle, they also told me they thought i should go see the dealer as the car shouldn't rust like that being so new. a few days later i went back to the dealer and asked the manager if she ha heard from nissan she said no, she mentioned that she has seen couple more cars come in for inspections and they noticed that the bottoms on the passenger sides were rusted consequently failing inspection. nissan should make a recall or force to make a recall on this issue my car is worthless because of the structural damage it has. nissan should be responsible for these repairs for using weak or cheaper materials. | |||

| I purchased a brand new nissan maxima 8 yrs ago. for the last 2 yrs it has been given me problems with the transmission. the car will get stcuk in between gears and then suddenly jerk will i'm driving, which is very scary and dangerous. i've noticed that it tends to get worse when it's hot or i am going incline. i've done some research and it seems to be a recurring problem with the 2004 and 2005 models. i purposely bought a brand new car to avoid these types of problems. i don't think it's fair that i have to pay $3,000 to fix it when it's obvious that it is a manutacturing flaw. it's very frustrating to see so many complaints filed against this model, and nissan not taking responsibility for it. i hope this can change soon. | |||

| My 2004 nissan maxima has suffered severe transmission problems over the course of the last year. when the vehicle is switched from park, to drive, it sometimes takes several seconds to engage. when it does, the car jerks really bad. also, the car jerks horribly bad when shifting between gears while driving. the jerking can be so severe at times, the car will veer to the left. i fee that this is a huge safety concern! the car has almost veered into oncoming traffic on more than one occasion! when the vehicle is at a dead stop (stop sign, red light, etc.), it will also take a few seconds to engage itself to drive. my nissan maxima has less than 60,000 miles! no car shold be having such severe problems at such a young age. i have been reviewing this problem on the internet, and it appears that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of nissan maxima car owners who are having the same problem. it is absolutely ridiculous that nissan would turn a blind eye to an issue that they have to be aware of!! i have been a huge advocate of nissan, if this issue does not get resolved by nissan, you can bet that i will not only never buy a nissan again, but convince everyone i know to never buy a nissan. | |||

| I took possession of this vehicle around the 14th of november and this vehicle has been returned back to the dealership 6 times within a two week period. i think this could possible be a flood car there is a smell of mildew and the visor are water damaged. to this day the vehicle has not been fixed and it is the 26th day of december 2011. the transmission seems to be slipping and i am afraid to enter traffic as the car stalls and then sticks upon accellarating. the check engine light as well as the brake ans abs lights are constantly on when the dealership stated that they had turned them off. i can smell fumes upon starting and driving this car. i am parent and i don't like to give my child or any other person a ride because of the smells. the tires were bald on the car and twice when it rained i almost has 2 major collisions when the vehicle veered into the other lane driving 45 in a 65 mph zone. i am filing a complaint because i don't think this car is a good car. i have contacted the finance company and they are stating this is out of there hands. i have taken pictures of the different item that seems to be water damaged. i also will be filing a complaint with the comsumer law group regarding this matter. | |||

| On november 15, 2011, i was walking across the parking lot of food store and noticed something hanging down from the passenger side of the car under the passenger seat. upon investigation i found a hole in the bottom of the car where it had rotted out. the metal is flaking off and the hole continues to get bigger. i looked online to see if there had been a recall to fix the problem and found many other people with the same problem. nissan refuses to recall or repair the problem. | |||

| Car began making a chattering sound and i had oil checked immediately. full, but it was suggested to me at gas station that i might have a sticking valve. i had an appointment for an oil change on monday, november 7th but on sunday, 11/6/11 as i was going up a slight hill chattering got louder and engine stopped. i'm told the car jumped timing due to the failure of the tensioner which holds the timing chain. it's likely the heads were damaged in the process but i have not yet had the engine pulled apart. from on line research this seems to be a common problem with the maxima models 2004-08. called nissan but they insist that i have it towed to dealership and pay a large sum of money to have it diagnosed and then they might pay for the parts (job is labor intensive!) for their flagship engine, it was probably not a good idea to use a plastic part in it! i will be contacting nissan again soon. thank you. | |||

| 2004 + nissan maxima's are having timing chain issues which starts to occur after 50k as per the thousand of forum members across different forum. i am a victim too. its a known defect in maxima's and there has been no recalls to fix this. this timing chain issue fix cost appx $1600 and difficult for us to pay such an amount which has been declated by nissan as a maintenance free item. this timing chain would gradually lead to all sort of problems leading to complete failure if not taken care of. we as a customer pledge nhtsa to take appropriate action. already contacted local dealer and nissan usa without any results. | |||

| I purchased a used 2004 nissan maxima from this dealership. this is my third maxima that i have owned. i recently started having issues with my car. it starting having trouble shifting into gear. i took this to this dealership and of course they claimed they had never heard of this issue before. they came back and showed me this bottle filled with fluid and claimed that this black oil was the fluid they took from the transmission. they inspected the car and told me they would send it to the nissan corporate office to see if they would consider a goodwill assistance. immediately upon leaving i took my car to a transmission company and they checked the oil and told me there was no way that oil came out of my car. i was also told that this is one of the oldest tricks in the book and that this is probably the same container used on all customers that come in and complain. i just spoke with deland nissan to see if they were going to pay for this considering how many people are having this same issue and they stated no. i will never purchase another nissan ever and will be looking to see if there is anything else that can be done against this company. | |||

| In october of 2008 the car started jerking really hard when shifting between 1 and 2nd gears. mainly when i was slowing down to take a turn or when approaching a light and then tried to accelerate. dealer said that i needed to replace transmission or have it rebuilt. i had the transmission rebuilt in january 2009 problem was gone for a little while and then began again about once a week. with time the problem the shifting kept getting harder and harder. february 2010 the check engine light came on. now the car will sometimes jerk really hard and make a really loud clanking noise when shifting. when it does this the car actts like it does not want to accelerate. when car is driven for a few minutes, then turned off and then turned on again then the noise is gone and car accelerates just fine. problem occurs about every other day. when taken to the dealer they said it was the shift selenoid that's related to the transmission. | |||

| My 04 maxima currently has just over 50,000 miles on it. i have noticed some hard shifts over the past few months, but they had been very intermittent. the other day however i noticed the service engine soon light was on and when accelerating from a stop i realized that i barely had any power! after engine shut off the acceleration was back to normal. the service engine soon light remained on. the code was pulled and reset. p 0797 pressure control solenoid, stuck on. repair cost approximately 4000 dollars. problem outstanding. the struts have also gone bad. problem outstanding. i have also had to replace the battery. the front right rotor is warped and causes steering wheel shim when downhill braking. problem outstanding. my car had begun to idle very low twice and actually died once. problem outstanding. a weld on the heat shield of the catalytic converter has come loose and causes a noticeable vibration when accelerating when cold. this subsides once it's heated up probably due to metal expansion. problem outstanding. i have also replaced the tires due too bad alignment camber on some and also castor i believe it was wearing the tires unevenly. *tr | |||
