Failure in abs system. abs, tcs, and slip warning lights show after the occurring sound of grinding in the brakes. apparently this is a known problem in 2004 - 2007 maximas. there is a tsb floating all over the internet documenting the problem and possible repair procedures. dealer wants close to 3k for a known issue!!! *tr

Failure in abs, tcs, slip. warning lights show after the occurring sound of grinding in the breaks. this is my second maxima, 2005 se and sl models have problems. both cars have different odometer, one is below 100k and one is higher. this is ridiculous for a 30+k car.

I was about to pull off from a stop light and when i hit the gas it was like i was in neutral. the car wouldn't move. cars were blowing at me and all. i looked down and saw that the car was still in drive. the abs, brake, service engine and tns/ins? lights were on and my gas hand had dropped from 3/4 of a tank down to empty and the light came on. i turned the car off for a split second and turned it back on. the only light that stayed on afterward was the service engine light. my gas hand never went back up to the 3/4 of a tank. i was nervous that the car was going to cut off so i stopped and put more gas in the car. my car now drives like the bottom is falling out. it's slow to accelerate and then picks up once you get to about 35 mph. *tr

While driving at speeds under 55 and above my abs motor enguages and pumps causing car to handle strange with out brakes being pressed at all , it is sporatic when doing so while driving. all of this is on 4 tires with good even pressure and on perfectly dry level asphalt . the abs also enguages while attempting to brake with a noticable amount of pedal fade and flutter on perfectly dry asphalt with undesired stopping distances, such as rolling thru stop signs. never has a warning light or any check light, light up during the incidents. here is a link to consumer complaints of many other maxima owners that have had same problems with there brakes .http://www.aboutautomobile.com/complaint/2006/nissan/maxima/anti-lock+braking+system+%28abs%29. this is a serious safety issue due to the diminished braking ability. i have owned gm , ford, chrysler ,honda, toyotas, and never seen brakes this bad the gm i had that would activate abs gm did the right thing and recalled them and fixed it which is what nissan should have to do as well. i called the local nissan dealer and told them what was going on and they said it was common and acted like it was no big deal and told me i could bring it in have them look at it and replace sensors , i feel like they should have to eat all costs incurred being as it is a blatant design flaw highly common and highly dangerous!!! thank you ..

We purchased a new 2005 nissan maxima in july 05. from day one, we noticed an engine surge when down-shifting gears, start from a stop and when placed in reverse. we attributed this to being a sportier car than we were used to. *jb however, on nov. 9, as my wife was turning into a parking space in a parking deck, the brakes failed to engage. specifically, she had just leveled-off from the up-ramp of the deck, made a left-turn into a parking space, pressed the brake pedal and - nothing. the pedal would not depress. because the car was naturally slowing down from the up-ramp, the down-shifting of gears caused the car to stall, then surge, just as it has done before. b/c the brake pedal didn't depress, the brakes didn't engage, thus the car rolled into the boundary wall of the parking deck. when we notified the dealer, they said that it wasn't their problem and to call nissan. i called 1-800-nissan-1, and spoke with an attendant on 11/10. a tech visit was schedule for 12/5. on 12/12, nissan called to report that they couldn't find a defect. when i inquired as to the specifics of the investigation, i was told that they were professionals, and checked whatever they thought was necessary. when i pressured for specifics, they couldn't provide any. this purchase was intended to provide my wife and unborn child a safe and dependable mode of transportation, but if the brakes don't work and no one can find a problem, how safe and dependable is it? b/c we couldn't drive the car due to the accident and mechanical issues, we were without the use of the car for 34 calendar days, and for 29 business days. the cost of the repair is $2000+. this is an outrage that a $30k car develops an engine/transmission problem from purchase (assuming it is a problem) and then develops a brake malfunction within the first 4 months of purchase. completely asinine. *jb

I inadvertently upon depressing the brake pedal, also pressed on the accelerator pedal. what is apparently normal for the 2005 nissan maxima, is the brake pedal can move below the level of the accelerator pedal. this highlighted two problems: 1. the bake pedal travel is to much, and 2. the distance between the brake and accelerator pedals is insufficient. the result of this problem is to apply more brake pressure thereby also accelerating the car. i was parking and ended up upon the median between lanes of parking and damaged my bumper and skirt under the front end. *nm
