Transmission is bucking and jerking between gears. car slip between gears while driving and causes the car to rev in neutral while driving and then suddenly jump into gear which causes the car to lunge forward suddenly.

I have been feeling a jerking in my car, which sounds like the motor is moving around. i had the motor mounts replaced, but still was having the same problems. i have now found out it is the transmission, which will cost me $3200.00, i have been told by the shop that a lot of 2005 maxima are having the same problems, if this is true why is there not a recall?

My 2005 nissan maxima transmission has been slipping since 75,000 miles. i have been doing alot of research and alot of other individals with 04 and 05 maximas are experiencing thesame issues. nissan maxima put defected transmissions in their 04 and 05 models. i contacted nissan usa however the refused to fix my car.

I just took delivery of a used 2005 nissan maxima with a 5spd auto transmission. i noticed a few times while driving today that the transmission takes some time between gear changes and at times can jerk pretty hard as it changes gears particularly between 1-2-3. it appears to be the early signs of a failing transmission as the shifting can be very rough. i now feel that perhaps nissan was not the right decision, and this will most definitely deter me from buying a new nissan in the future.

I have had this car since 2008. the transmission start jerking at 80 thousand+ miles on it.. it jerks from 3rd gear to 2nd while moving. i took it to nissan dealership they said they cannot help. then i called nissan usa and asked them for help nissan said its out of warranty so there's nothing they can do!! dealership told me that it would cost me 4000+ to get transmission replaced... i researched there's thousand of more people having the same problem with transmission. and nissan is putting peoples life in danger and wont do anything about it..

The car jerks when shifting into second gear

I am having very bad transmission issues. when i take off it jerks real bad in the lower gears and then when i am slowing down about to come to a stop it also kicks and jerks real bad when it gears down in the lower gears. and sometimes it just wont go at all..and then when i sit there a min and put my car from park to drive it hesitates for afew secs and then jumps real bad and then goes into drive.it usually does all this when the car is warmed up.

Stopped at a local shop, got out of car to mail a letter, car still running, key in the ignition and the doors locked on the car while it was running and no one in the drivers seat. luckly i did not have my child in the car seat, it was hot and it took me having to get someone to go to my home and retrieve a spare key to open the door. took it to dealership and because it was 1o miles over the warranty, they would not repair it. i filed a complaint earlier, but never heard a response. this also happened to my 2005 altima. the doors are not suppose to lock if car is running. this is a hazard and a defect.

I had bought a 2005 nissan maxima within a month it started jerking really bad between first and second shift. getting off the freeway and comming to a stop it started jerking really bad it seemed like i had been hit from my back bumper, but it just the shit gear problem. it was really scary especially having my two year old son in the car. i took my car to the mechanic multiple times but they didnt seem to know what the problem was so i looked it up online and there were numerous complaints with the same problem i was having. my maxima now has 75000 miles and does not fall under warranty i am afraid that they are going to charge me $3000 for a problem that alot of nissans seem to have and should have been reacalled.

I bought a 2005 maxima 3.5 sl in 2006 brand new in south carolina. i first started having problems when i had my 60,000 mile service. about two weeks after the service my check engine light came on so, i took it to the dealership. they said there was no codes, and cleared the light. i then took my car in for the 90,000 service and once again around a week or two later my check engine light came on. i took it to the dealer and now their was codes saying my egr valve needed to be replaced. i told the dealership the same thing happened when i did my 60,000 mile service. needless to say their was a recall that they would have replaced it for free but i was just over the mileage where it could have been done at no cost to me. about 3 months later my car jerked really hard, and my car lost complete power then jerked once more and started to move. the gauges in the car went completely out and every light possible on the dash came on. first i was told i have to replace four sensors, and so i did so along with the egr valve. the car ran fine for about two weeks and started doing the same thing. when i went from drive to reverse or vice versa it would jerk real hard before engaging. i then took the car to the repair shop and they said my transmission sensor was bad. i just had it replaced two weeks ago, and now my car is back is the shop doing the same thing. the tcs slip, and every light on the dash is on, and none of my gauges are working. now they say it might be the computer that is bad. this last time i was on my way home from missouri and it disengaged and would not put up speed when i pressed the gas pedal. i was nearly rear ended, and had to pull over because my 12 year old daughter was in the car and got scared.

The car will jerk really hard switching from 1st and second gear. sometimes the car will just rev when increasing speed and the car won't move! when u park the car and then go to shift it to drive it actually won't kick in for 7-10 seconds. the only reason i'm making a complaint about it is because i was searching online to see of other people had the same problem and there were literally thousands of complaints with the exact same problem and i don't think its right for me and all the others with the same problem to have to put 3000-3500 for a new transmission when clearly this should be a recall!

Transmssion jerks in 2nd and 3rd shifts
01/01/201175000
Transmissions jerks really hard then grinds while driving (taking off) until it eventually does it every time i try to drive it and is now parked due to it possibly causing an accident. the jerking started at 75000 miles every now and then until it became consistent up to 127000 miles then parked!

I was stopped at a red light and when light turned green, i started forward, car moved and then just revved.car behind me had to slam on brakes to avoid hitting me. car was moving and then when it should have shifted, it froze . was terrified to drive it after that.
08/12/2012118200
I was about to pull off from a stop light and when i hit the gas it was like i was in neutral. the car wouldn't move. cars were blowing at me and all. i looked down and saw that the car was still in drive. the abs, brake, service engine and tns/ins? lights were on and my gas hand had dropped from 3/4 of a tank down to empty and the light came on. i turned the car off for a split second and turned it back on. the only light that stayed on afterward was the service engine light. my gas hand never went back up to the 3/4 of a tank. i was nervous that the car was going to cut off so i stopped and put more gas in the car. my car now drives like the bottom is falling out. it's slow to accelerate and then picks up once you get to about 35 mph.

My 2005 nissan maxima's automatic transmission is jerking when shifting into reverse. th transmission also is not switching to the proper gear when going from a stopped to an accelerated movement.
06/16/2012108000
While entering highway from side road, transmission halted as though stuck in overdrive. i accelerated, but the engine just would not go. a truck had to brake hard to avoid collision. after a few seconds the car started to accelerate like a standard transmission had bee started in 4th or 5th gear. i have gone online to forums to see that nissan has been having this same problem for sometime. these cars need to be recalled to check for this latent defect that can result in someone getting killed.

My automatic transmission is slipping both in lower gears and at times, at acceleration. additionally, i put the car in reverse to back out of my driveway. when i put the car in drive, it takes a couple of seconds to go into drive, but then jumps hard into gear. so hard like i've been hit. luckily i don't live on a busy street. this is dangerous and from my research many 2005 nissan maxima owners are having the same problems. i just started research after learning that a friend of my daughter's whose parent owns a 2005 maxima is having the same problems. this should be a recall.

 1. takes about 5 seconds to click into gear after the shift lever is put in d 2. very hard jerky shifts between 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st and accompanied by loud clunking noise. 3. transmission slips out of gear during regular driving allowign the engine to rev freely then jerking back into gear with a loud clunk. the is followed by a burnt oil / electrical type smell that gets inside the car and evident outside after stopping.
03/09/2012144258
When accelerating the car jerks/shifts very hard and when slowing down the shifting is very harsh to the point that it will shut off in the middle of traffic. the transmission specialist says that we need a new transmission, however, there seems to be a manufacturer defect. any transmission that comes from the nissan dealership will eventually result in the same safety hazard. when i researched the problem, there are numerous complaints filed with the nissan corporation, yet they refuse to recall or take responsibility for this problem that can lead to serious injury/accident or even death.

Time: 1630 hrs; place: arlington, tx; temp: 90 degrees; traffic stop and go for an hour on highway 121. after continuous depression of the clutch to drive vehicle in traffic at less than 5 mph the clutch resistance fell to nothing and the clutch pedal stayed to the floor. i was able to make my way out of the congested traffic using 5th and 6th gear while trying to avoid all stops. i was able to make it to a convenience store and after 30 minutes there was barely enough clutch pressure to put my vehicle in gear to get back on the highway to drive home. at my exit again i had no clutch pressure and had to pull into another convenience store. i called for a tow truck and after waiting for 20 minutes the was clutch pressure to drive home, only 1 mile away. i cancelled the tow. this morning i now have full pressure and the vehicle drives like normal. i have researched the internet and found other nissan maxima's and altima's with the same exact problem. this is not a one vehicle incident!!! there is definitely something wrong with the clutch system in hot weather, stop and go traffic. this situation needs to be looked at.

When my nissian shifts from first to second the engine races and no increase in speed. when it shifts from third to fourth gear there is a hard shift and jerking. when you come to a complete stop the car wil not shift and the engine just races.

I drive a 2005 nissian maxima and about 5 months ago my car started jerking and hard shifts and then not shifting at all. i have on had this car for about 4 years and when i purschased it i was under the impression it was a good car. i have treat this car like a baby. now i have it in the shop and i'm look at a $3,000 dollar bill to have my car repaired. i'm making a car payment on something i can't even drive. spokwe with the dealship and nissian and they say it's nothing they can do. it no longer under warranty. so i'm stuck. i have seen were nissian has had a lot of problems with the 04-05 transmissions and has done nothing about it.

Began experiencing issue with the transmission at about 75,000 miles. first noticed that when shifting from park into reverse or drive there was a lag of a few seconds and then a noticable surge into gear. then noticed an occasional (non-driver created) revving of rpms in between gears 1 and 2 and from 2 to 3. the transmission doen't appear to know which gear to engage to. these symptoms progressed over time until i satarted experiencing heavy impact like shifts between gears while in motion. the transmission will get suspended in between gears which causes an overly rapid increase in rpm's from 2000-22000 to well above 4500 until i can remove my foot from the gas (this is not from aggressive accelerator manipulation by the driver but an abnormal increase in rpm's from the transmission gear issues). i have noticed the rpm's are not stable when idling (often idles higher than normal) or with no accelerator pressure as well. took the car to a repair shop and they pulled the codes from the computer which indicated the transmission was begining to fail. the flushed/replaced the transmission fluid and indicated it could be weeks, months or maybe longer but the transmission will ultimately fail. online research indicates the transmission valve body is the culprit but also the ecm and transmission grounding are also probable contributors. due to the violent nature on the transmission issues it sounds as though the engine mounts may be cracked as well. this is clearly a manufacturing fault, provides a dangerous situation for the operator, passenger and other drivers. i am surprised that there have not been accidents associated with this due to the instability of the transmission and rpm issues and believe this should be considered for recall.

Transmission went out. online there were a bunch of issues and lot of the transmission shops said they always replace nissan transmissions from this specific model. so i decided to write on here and see.

I am told that i am expericencing problems with my transmission and engine. after careful research, and two mechanic opinions it has been told to me that nissan knew that they had problems with this model of maxima and has not owned up to this problem. neither have they recalled or trying right their wrong. these items are the life of the car. i have also checked the reviews on edmunds.com and there are several owners of this same car that have had the same issues and complaints. i would like to know what measures can be taken against nissan for them own up to these defective components. it will hurt them in the lon run if they do not. i wil certainly make sure that the world knows about this and do not even attempt to purchase a nissan. i only wish i had done this before i purchased this car.

I have a 2005 maxima and i am having very bad transmission issues. when i take off it jerks real bad between 1st and 2nd gear and then when i am slowing down about to come to a stop it also kicks and jerks real bad when it gears down to 1st and 2nd and sometimes it just wont go at all..and then when i sit there a min and put my car from park to drive it hesitates for atleast 7 to 10 secs. and then jumps real bad and then goes into drive.it usually does all this when the car is hot. i bought my maxima 18 months back, used. i started noticing this about 8 months back when there was a very evident lag in shifting and then only during park<>reverse<>drive. this was at around 95,000 miles and when i bought it it had 87,000. now it has become worse to a point where it is very unsafe to drive. we have a 2 yr old daughter who always has to be transported to day care and home in this car. now i am unable to sell it because no body would pay even 25% of what i bought the car for and we are left with no choice but to drive this until it fails even though it is very dangerous to drive this car. please have nissan help me fix this car or better recall these transmissions. please please please help fix my car. thanks.

Bought car brand new 9/2005. car was serviced multiple times and even a nissan engineer tested steering and suspension. when speed is at 60 mpr, steering wheel shakes. new tires were put on by dealership several times, also. engineer stated that car was supposed to do that. well now my car's transmission is acting up. please note that steering wheel still shakes, too. i did a google search and see that numerous people are having the same issue. this car has to be a lemon. i will be contacting nissan north america to file a complaint also and request that they repair my car.

I like many others am having the exact transmission slipping, jerking problems between 2nd and 3rd gear. the rpm's just jump right up under acceleration, the transmission slips then catches causing a jerking, lurching forward action. it is very dangeroua especcially coming on to a majon highway. because of this i will not let my wife and children drive in the car. we cannot afford the quoted $3500 to $4000 to replace the transmission. nor do we feel as if we should have to. we have owne this car since new. it has been very reliable but this is abusrd. nissan needs to recall this model year and replace with corrected transmission before someone gets killed. or is that what it's going to take to get them to acknowledge the problem.

I was told by the dealer mechanic that i am having problems with my timing chain tightener. this problem was first diagnosed more than a year ago, and i was told that the sound it was making would worsen with time, and that i should get it replaced before it fails completely. the mechanic told me he feels a recall should have been placed on this part, but so far no such recall has been made. the internet is rife with similar stories, and the gentleman in line in front of me had the same diagnosis.

Slight hesitation when put in d or r then hard jerk and clunking sound when goes into gear. has a hard jerking when slowing down and down shifting. will slip in and out of gear while going down the road. rpm's will rev up to 6000-7000 before shifting into gear. this mainly happens when car is warmed up. but goes in and out of gear between 20-40 mph.

Passenger front floor pan has about a 11 inch rusted out spot. you can see the interior sound barrier from under the car on the passenger side, under the front door area.

Vehicle jumps violently when changing between 1st, 2nd & 3rd gears. if the engine is cool then the vehicle does not jump but once the engine is warmed up, the car is just contantly jerking. if i change gears from d to r, it takes around 5 seconds before vehicle actually kicks into gear and it jerks so hard to the point where it just make a loud noise.

I own a 2005 nissan maxima se that now has 73000 miles on it . i am encountering a problem that seems to be with the transmission, when checked for transmission problems nothing seems to show up and no lights are on. the car bucks or jerks when driving and when changing gears . it scrubs as if it 's struggling to pull (which is very dangerous) happened to me while entering the interstate this week and i was in tears because i was in fear for my safety. the car has been having these issue since around 66000 miles. i've gone on line and find out that several consumers are having the same problem and are at a loss as to how to resolve since it doesnt show up as a transmission problem and to have a car (purchased brand new) to start having transmission problems at such low mileage is not expected. there should be a recall on these cars and nissan should have to fix this problem before serious injury to their consumer is encountered. when i went to a nissan dealership to try and talk to them about the problem and they just brushed me off and said they would have to look at my car and put it on the machine for a cost of over 100.00 . this i fell is useless since i've already had it checked and online consumers are saying that no transmission code shows up on the machine. the trasmission fluid was flushed since my machanic said he didnt see anything wrong with the transmission as an attempt to solve the problem but that did nothing for the problem.

Transmission shifts hard. when in park to drive hesitates a few seconds than roughly shifts to drive. hesitates when car is driven for long periods of time. sporadically has issues that appears to be the transmission. have gone to several shops and have been told many things. reading all the forums this is a factory defect that should be recalled. i have only had the car for over a year. the manufacturer should be liable!!!!

I filed a complaint about my 2005 nissan maxima #10357629 -9/25/10. the situation was the transmission and not mentioned the timing chain. the transmission shut down ; stopped ; failed ; ceased to function fri. nov /12 /10 @ 5;00 pm during rush hour in the center of the busiest freeway in my area leaving me thankful to god and the riverside cty. freeway service patrol with which i filled out a survey #217446 their # 951 369-3691. accidents were behind me somewhere the two driver said i was fortunate to not suffer injury and damage. the maxima cost of repair to nissan's product is over $ 6,000.00. the maxima has only 77,435 miles. these are electrical and mechanical defaults and there are scores of owners reporting similar to identical experiences about their maxima cars from 2004 through 2007. i find it hard to believe that nhtsa haven't recognized this as a dangerous situation. why don't the people that buy these products in good faith get the backing of the nhtsa. there are recalls on windshield wipers and small things like that- that anybody can replace within twenty dollars but this is a substantial problem, this is money for paying rent for months, this is the cost of surgery to keep a working person ambulatory, this is a call for help, a call to keep some of the profits of foreign corporations at home .this is when the force of the nhtsa's authority should seemingly come to the forefront demanding they stand behind their products as safe and trustworthy and certainly not a vehicle doing sixty miles an hour during rush hour coming to a dead stop with vehicles pealing to all sides in all directions desperately avoiding collisions and personal injury as well as injury to others and destruction of property. here i was sitting there eyes shut tight waiting for the slam of some vehicle into mine that refused to budge. i felt like i was in the midst of committing suicide without being able to prevent it. like a nightmare, some evil occurrence descending. help!!!

My 2005 nissan maxima started to shift extremely hard. not only that but in traffic it can be very scarey almost causing you to hit the vehicle in front of you or being almost hit in the rear because the transmission gets stuck and then shifts extremely hard. this vehicle is used to transport my kids. i cannot afford to fix nissans mistakes. times are difficult financially right now. nissan should be held accountable for there mistakes. they should not be allowed to sell vehicles that are not reliable. please help us with this situation. it not only put my children in danger but it has taken a financial tow on my family. nissan needs to fix this!!!

We own a 2005 nissan maxima. at 63,000 miles, this vehicle jerks and shifts on its own. we have searched oline for other people experiencing these type of problems, and what we found was extremely disturbing. there are many families out there experiencing the sane exact type of problems! nissan is unwiling to help their customers. they know exactly what is going on, but they wont admit that there is something faulty with their design. we are having problems with the transmission and with engine mounts. unfortunately, we don't have the money to fix this. when we bought this car, we thought we were making a good investment. please help us!!!!!! someone needs to investigate this further and issue a recall. just like us, there must be other families driving their 2005 nissan maxima in these conditions because they can't afford to fix their cars, and nissan won't do a thing to help. please don't wait for a fatality.

May/2110-while driving my 2005 nissan maxima i developed complete electrical failure and had to have my car towed to bill denny's car repair. the problem is that the electical systrm is directly under a coin tray on the dash. the corners are not secure and small coins were able to slip down there thus short circuiting the electrical system. my auto repair person researched this and found this problem has been well known to nissan. many nissan owners have had this problem happen to them. the complaints are all over the internet. this happened to me when my vehicle was 5 yrs old but it also happened to nissan owners when their maxima was new. this is not a warranty issue but a safety issue. there should have been a recall. nissan is ignoring my request to pay for my auto's repair because my car was not under warranty. nissan has in fact fixed this defect. when i had my car repaired in may this problem was corrected. . john anello writrer for auto tech on wheels wrote an article of the month for his magazine 06/2009- it was entirely about this defect. there is absolutely no reason for this to be ignored by nissan . my car could have failed on a highway at a high speed with a deadly outcome. i made a complaint thru the state of md consumer protection division my case no# mu-187959. please help

I have a 2005 nissan maxima. for the last 2 years i have been experiencing problems with my car hesitating and the rpm raises very high while driving. i have also been experiencing heavy engine vibrations while breaking when driving. i took nissan service and have a diagnostic done and they came back with a code for the transmission. they suggested that i have the transmission flushed, which i had done 6 months prior. nevertheless, i had it flushed again and the problem continued to escalate. i decided to look on the internet to see if i could possibly find a solution. i found that these problems were common with many 2004-2005 maxima owners and have been reported to nissan for many years, but they refused to recall these vehicles. in each case the problem began right after the warranty expired, which makes me think they were built like this purposely. i am now getting a shift malfunction code and was advised to replace the transmission. these are very expensive vehicles and it is just inexcusable for nissan to install faulty motor mounts and transmissions in them and not take responsibility for the repairs.

2005 maxima se....76,000 miles...... i have had jerky transmission problems around 0-20 mph... i have read hundreds of the same complaints..... someone get nissan to do a recall please... i'm sure they can't come up with the money to repair all of maxima's transmissions for free, that is probably the only thing holding them up...... well, being 23 years old, working 110 hour weeks during the summer farming.... i found myself buying a nice 2005 nissan maxima thinking that it was going to be a dependable car, weeks later i find out it is nothing but junk and is too late to return back to nissan.... i'm sure you guys have delt with many of other 2004-2006 nissan maxima owner's complaints... but it's time to force nissan to stand behind their product and admit failure, and someone needs to put an end to this non-sense. i have 4 years of payments on this car, the least they could do is give me a properly working transmission...... also--- i have read many of a/c complaints, all which report of a/c hose needing to be replaced costing hundreds of dollars, my air conditioner just went out the other day..... good thing i have a sun roof and windows that work. this might as well also be thrown in the with the recall. thanks

I am filing a complain about my nissan maxima 05. i have been on different websites were i see a lot of people that owns the maxima 04-05 models have the same complain. and the complains are the timing chain and the transmission. i think nissan should stand by their work and do a recall for they can see what is the problem and fix the problem. some people are still paying for this expensive car and can't afford to paying for manufacture problems. the timing chain and the transmission was not properly installed. and the problem needs to be fixed.

We bought a 2005 nissan maxima brand new. last year 2009 the transmission began to slip and the air conditioner went out. the dealership said the air would be $1400 so when the tranny was a problem i knew not to go to the dealership. the car would jerk and slam into gear. i had my 2 children in the car and it completely stopped in the middle of traffic. it had to be towed to a local transmission place and was told i would need a new transmission for $3000. the car has been babied and should not have any issues. it is garaged kept and all mainenance done. the car was less than 4 years old when all thes problems started. after seeing all the complaints i believe nissan should recall and refund this particular transmission. my mechanic cannot get any help from nissan and it still has issues. my children and i could have been killed the way the car lost all gears in the middle of traffic. i did not have enough time to pull over. there are more complaints about the 2005 nissan maxima transmission than toyata and look what they are doing. do people have to die for nissan to take responsibility? i want to be included in any and all class action lawsuits that pertain to this issue. i still own money on this lemon.
