First after buying this nissan maxima 2006, i noticed that my head light lamps needed to be changed every 14 months. i never had a car where i had to replace the head light lamps so often. both of my other cars (toyota and honda) have over 100k miles and we never had to change the lamps on those cars. next, the abs brakes are not working properly, really? after 70k miles? wow! later i found out that this is a common problem with this car. the abs appear to be running while the car is moving and on dry roads. finally, the transmission. why do i have a slipping transmission on a car with only 64k miles. after research, i found out that the problems that i'm having with this nissan maxima, hundreds of other owns are having the same problems. i always had honda and toyota cars and i decided to try something new in this maxima. i will never buy nissan again, i'm running back to honda and toyota!!! *tr

Abs activates during normal braking making horrible grinding sound. nissan dealer told me the actuator and rear hub needed repair for an extreme amount of money over $2,000.00. i had the similar problem previously with my 2004 nissan maxima, the only repair needed was to dismantle rear brake rotor, clean the corrosion, grind a notch in the knuckle, and reassemble it back. this is a major issue with all cars in middle eastern and central states because of the cold weather conditions. in my opinion it should be a national recall, for all the people having this issue is the united states and canada. *tr

06 nissan maxima. failed right rear abs sensor. per the dealer, a design flaw causes moisture to build up and causes the abs sensor to fail after time. had to purchase new sensor, cap, and hub. the new sensor and cap do not fit the original wheel hub so a new one had to be purchased. the mechanic also had to modify the hub by drilling a hole in it to allow moisture to escape to prevent the same problem from happening. in talking with the dealership, they have had multple maximas in for this repair. one dealership didnt have the parts needed as they've had so many repairs.

I have a 2006 nissan maxima - the abs system has failed, nissan is claiming a $2000 repair. i have known and read of several dozen other owners with the same year and model having this problem. this is a manufacturer failure and needs to be recalled and repaired.

From nov 2009 to jan 2010, i replaced the actuator, rear wheel sensor, hub and components. now, the dealership states that i will have to replace all of that again (dec 2010). a part that was replaced last year rusted causing rust intrusion and nissan does not consider that part to be defective (even though that same part is less that a year old). so in less than a year, i have spent $4000 to have the same issues repaired (not really) twice.

2006 nissan maxima, bad abs senser (due to water intrusion) on right rear wheel causing abs to kick on when not nessiary. i bought my car brand new and have always done all the recomanded checks up. my vehicle currently has 53,000 and after a price of 3,000 to correct the issue in which nissan already knows about!

Nissan, maxima 2006 anti lock braking system- the abs (ant lock braking system) fails due to corrosion. nissan has a known failure (at least since 2008) of the abs for this model vehicle. the brakes will suddenly pulsate when engaged. there is a technical bulletin put out by nissan which cost the consumer approximately 120.00. however, some of the service centers do not know about the repair or either refuse to fix it in the manner that nissan prescribes. len stoler nissan of owings mills maryland attempted to make me pay $4400.00 for partial renewal of the entire braking system on a 2006 vehicle in 2008. i think the public should be made aware of the failure because it happens without any warning signs and the vehicle brakes in a delayed pulsating manner. *tr

I have a 2006 nissan maxima. on saturday the 23rd of january i was driving it home and noticed that the brakes felt spongy. no light was on, but i did hear a strange noise. i took it to an independent shop who recommended changing out the brakes and rotors, which i had done on all 4 corners. i took it home, and the next day when i tried to stop it made a clunking noise and the antilock system started pushing against the brake pedal. this was on dry pavement and the braking distance was severely compromised. i took it back to the shop and they checked it out, and found a tsb that nissan has out for these cars. corrosion or sediment builds up inside the wheel hub where the antilock sensor ring is located, and sends out false signals. in my case the hub had to be cleaned and the sensor replaced. i took it to a nissan dealer who performed all the repairs. when i asked the service tech how many maximas they have to do this to, he said all of them. i also checked an online forum i belong to (maxima.org) and it is a common problem with the 2004 and up models. i'm not sure how nissan hasn't had to issue a recall on an issue that affects an essential safety system on the car. in my case the stopping distance was severely affected in dry paving, and i am sure it would have been worse if it was wet or frozen. if nissan has issued a tsb on it they know there is a problem there, and even if they have come up with a fix it doesn't seem like it should be up to the customer to pay to correct a design flaw that affects safety-related systems. *tr

Purchased this car in 2006 brand new! 90k miles the abs went.........at 120k miles the ac went and you have to keep putting freon all summer long! now at 130k miles the car jerks sporadically when driving it switches gears and takes about 5-8 seconds to switch gears. truly a dissatisfied customer. i paid for a transmission flush, which had i known at the time would not have done it because the problem remains!

While traveling approximately 40 mph, with no warning, the abs lamp, tcs light and the emergency brake lights came on and the brakes became sensitive. i took the vehicle to my mechanic who discovered that the abs actuator was defective, rendering the abs system, traction control system and the electronic brake force distribution inactive. the mechanic installed an abs motor/module per the nissan service bulletin issued march 16, 2007 and removed both rear wheel bearings and performed an inspection and knuckle modification per the bulletin. the cost of the abs actuator alone was $1,300; 75% of the total repair bill which cost, i feel, is exorbitant and excessive.

My anti-lock brake system kept activating on dry pavement. i was past my warranty so i took it to my mechanic. they indicated that the left rear wheel speed sensor needed replaced ($350). we replaced it, then 14 months later it started again. this time it was the right rear wheel speed sensor ($350). my mechanic replaced it and a couple of weeks later the anti-lock brake pumped started running non-stop. even when in park. the mechanic then stated the anti-lock brake controller needed replaced ($1300). now it has been 10 months and it's starting again. if i drive on dry pavement the anti-lock brakes kick in non-stop. there obviously is a design malfunction somewhere in the anti-lock brake system.

I felt abs system actuating via pumping sensation in my brake pedal while i was driving on dry pavement. it performed worse when going uphill, at low speeds and on flat surfaces. error codes were generated and dummy lights went on. the braking was not very effective as a result of the abs kicking in erroneously. thankfully i was keeping a safe following distance and was able to brake with some room to spare but if i had regular brakes without the abs malfunctioning, i would have stopped more quickly. thankfully nobody was hurt this time. mechanic investigation indicated this is a known problem. the service bulletin: ntb07-016b has the information you need to fix the abs problem. however, it was not caught in time to help me avoid a failed actuator.

I was exiting a highy on an offramp when my brake light, abs, traction control and slip light came on. i applied my brake and there was a load crunch noise and my brake pedal sunk to the floor. it took an extended period of time for the car to slow down as the brakes were grabbing and letting go continously. luckily this occurred during mid day, as this could have caused a serious accident during rush hour as the ramp would have had backed up traffic on it. i need a abs actuator replaced at an estimated cost of $2,500. this is a known issue at nissan as many people have complained online of the actuator failing around 40,000 miles. some people have even turned off their anti-lock brakes due to the high cost of fixing the abs actuator.

I have had to replace the brakes in my car over three times within a two year span. brakes continue to scrub and squeal. dealer says that they have done all they can do as they have changed multiple parts, costing me an arm and a leg. you are a afraid to make a hard emergency stop because due to the sound, you aren't sure if they could go out in time. transmission: care literally jerks into gear when backing up or taking off. you can't park too close to another vehicle or stop because car litterally leaps into gear possible causing you to hit another car in front of you. (feels like someone has rear ended you)

My wife was driving home in our maxima from work and when she pushed the brake pedal it felt very soft and the pedal travel was a lot more than normal. she was afraid to drive the car and stopped at a friends house and called me at work to come and look at the car. i drove it and noticed also that the brake pedal was much softer and the brake pedal went farther to the floor. no warning lights were on in the car. the car would stop when i braked hard so i decided to drive about 5 miles to our nissan dealer. while driving there i heard a clunk/thump sound several times from under the car and the car would slow down and shudder a bit. i had to push the gas pedal down a lot more than normal to get the car up to 50 mph. the nissan dealer found that the both rear abs sensors were failing. they said the abs sensors were rubbing on debris which had accumulated in the hub cavity. they had to clean out the drain for the cavity and replaced both damaged abs sensors. it seems to me that the hub cavity design was a faulty one if it let debris accumulate and jeopardize an important safety feature like the abs system. there apparently was a technical service bulletin related to this issue- but no recall had taken place. i wasn't real happy about the $975 repair bill.

While driving under 30 mph on a local street my brakes started to make a thumping noise. the thumping continued on and off for a few weeks gradually getting worse. i thought my brake pads were worn or i had a bad rotor. i replaced my break pads and inspected the rotors. the next day the sound was back. i took the car into midas to have the rotors replaced. the guys from midas told me the issue was my anti lock brakes and the noise i was hearing was the anti lock breaks activating. they also indicated there was a service bulletin from nissan on the abs actuator due to the number of issues seen with the abs actuator. when i got home i was shocked to see how many issues were being reported on the nissan maxima abs actuator. a few days later while driving home my breaks went out completely. i had to shut the car off and pump the breaks to regain pressure. the next morning i took the car into the nissan dealership. it cost me $1000 to repair the abs rear sensors. the dealership also noted that they routinely have people come in for this problem and have to come back in to have the actuator fixed after the sensors are fixed. the actuator is an additional $2000. i contacted nissan (1-866-799-1690) and spoke to david and sheena. very poor service and i actually had to convince them that my brakes going out was a big deal. i asked why a technical bulletin had been put out for the abs actuator, but no recall had been issues. i was told there are technical bulletins for fixing engines but that means nothing. i asked to be reimbursed and it took them over a week to get back to me. i never got reimbursed. very concerning that the breaks can go out with this issue....and no recall? nissan case number 7112967

Had my car put on a diagnostics machine to find out why my abs, slip, engine & brake light was on. after the results came back here again is there another technical bulletin put out by nissan for my vehicle. my vehicle is making grinding sounds and triggers the abs braking system to malfunction. the brakes will suddenly pulsate when engaged. i was told this is happening because: due to corrosion entering the rear tires. i was also informed that nissan has a known failure of the abs for this model vehicle.
03/11/201159896
The weep hole in my rear axle hub became plugged and caused a failure of the abs system. the rear sensors had to be replaced ($900). i was lucky? i somehow avoided the failure of the main sensor ($2,500). the nissan service technician said there is no maintenance to prevent this and acknowledged it as a design flaw. this is a safety and cost issue. it is well known. the bulletin boards are rife with people who disconnect their abs because they can't or won't pay the huge repair bills. there is even a recommended procedure for preventing a reoccurance after the repair on the internet. why isn't there a recall to get it retrofitted before the system fails?

While driving at interstate highway speed, vdc, slip, abs and traction control lights came on and stayed on. car was able to still be driven with no issue. upon taking car to the dealership, we were informed the actuator needed to be replaced. we declined the $2000+ repair as the car was still drivable. upon searching google for this issue there were multiple incidents of this happening for other consumers and even a nissan repair bulletin noting a design flaw in how the wheel hub can not drain causing the abs sensor and actuator problems.

Just driving along, my boyfriend as the driver, and i as the passenger, and as he applied the brakes, there was a loud clanging/rapping sound out of the blue, whereas it scared me so, that i thought i was going to have a heart attack. it would then happen again and again. then i started to notice a low hum (abs controller), just prior to this happening. so i researched this on the internet, and suspected the abs. i then entered 2006 nissan maxima abs, and bam...all over the net were testimonies of abs failure (where debris gets trapped in the rear hubs, with no escape). living in pa, with harsh winter road conditions, an accident waiting to happen ...this scares me! nissan is aware of this serious and expensive defect, and a tsb was sent to the dealership service departments. a nissan certified tech said to stop driving the vehicle, so i did until i got it to my mechanic. i downloaded the tsb for my mechanic to follow. he cleaned out the rear hubs, but did not drill any holes, nor mess with any sensors. i have had my car back for 2 days now, and 'the problem' happened twice. i purchased this (expensive) luxury vehicle, and as of today, i have one payment left. this makes me sick! there is no doubt that this a manufacturer defect, and i do not understand why there has not been a recall on this serious matter. i do not know where to turn next.

The abs sytem engages during normal driving causing difficulty in stopping under high or slow speeds. the failure causes a grinding sounds and triggers the abs braking system to malfunction. once the failure begins it is not possible to fix without technical service. it occurs irreaugless of speed and/or conditions. i have had this occur 5 times over the last 11 months. it is a highly costly , time consuming and inconvienent problem. the abs snesors have been replaced multiple times and the abs control unit and actuator have been replaced too. this does not solve this reoccuring problem and due to the number of complaints is an obvious design defect which has not benn solved.

I purchased my 06' maxima in 08' i had it for about 2 months and the cd player doesnt play any thing it skips spits the cd out and an error mesg. comes up. i took it to the dealer and they fixed it so they say 1 week later it starts with the same issue i called and they said they can do anything about it maybe its the cd. so i never got that issue fixed. an other issue is my car has about 70k miles and every time the car goes 20-30 mph it has a hard hit to change gears every time. my car get serviced every 3-4 months and now i need a new tranmission!! i only work about 20 miles from where i live how can that be? also i had to replace some kind of brake part. every time i went to brake the car made this noise and it started to shake the sound was this grinding sound then an other sound started like when you press the brakes and the roads are wet. but shaking real bad. i went to the dealer and they said its w & t on the car. when i asked him how offten this happens and he said not that offten so how can that be? other than that its little thing like my truck lock doesnt stay put i have to tighten the bolts of it once aweek please make nissan do a re-call i have read all the compalints and they are all the same and expensive issue.

I have a 2006 maxima and had the situation one day in august 2010 when i applied the brake the abs engaged. there was a grinding type noise like an impeller was broken. when i checked around with some dealer they said they never heard of this problem. an infiniti dealer told me that if i disconnect one of the sensors on the rear wheel the abs would be disabled. the braking would be as if there wasn no abs. in the winter you have to turn off the vdc otherwise you would still have problems. there was no information of what parts needed to be changed out.

2006 nissan maxima: abs activates with normal braking. this is a safety issue, and it is an obvious defect on nissan's part. however, the recall has never been issued, and nissan charges thousands of $ for the repairs if the vehicle is out of 36,000 miles warranty. the service bulletin has been issued in july 2007, reference ntb07-016b.

The contact owns a 2006 maxima se. in late august 2010, the abs brakes activated without warning. we immediately stopped driving it and brought it to a garage for repair. they cleaned off a bit of rust from the rear wheel hubs. it seemed to help but the abs still went on during normal summer breaking conditions. the garage saw a bulletin from nissan regarding the problem and told us that additional repairs needed to be done by the nissan dealer. we brought it to a nissan dealer. they inspected the car and told us that repairs would be around $800 to replace the sensors and if that did not work, the antilock actuator would need to be replaced, which would cost about $1500-2000. the car has about 60,885 miles on the car. we also own another maxima. it is a 1998 maxima with over 160,000 miles. on that older maxima, we have never had a problem with the antilock brakes. we contacted nissan consumer affairs and they told us that this normal and they would not pay for the repairs since the car was no longer under warranty.

The events leading up to the failure was squealing brakes, shaking steering wheels, loud noises on the brake, and rough ride when brakes are press slightly. car does not brake properly when pressed lightly under dry weather and tends to lock temporarily and let go during wet weather which can really lead to an accident. nissan consumer affairs was called about the problem i was informed to take my car to the dealership, which i did, dealership tells me i'm out of warranty, i called nissan consumer affairs back because this is a manufacturer defect and not something caused by me but nissan will not admit to it. *tr

2006 nissan maxima. consumer writes in regards to vehicle braking system *tgw the consumer stated the abs on the right and left wheels of the vehicle would engage as he depressed the brake pedal at a time when the roadway was clear and dry, and his speed was in excess of 40 mph. upon taking the vehicle to the dealer, the consumer learned there was a defect. the defect caused water/moisture to be retained in the rear hub assembly, resulting in corrosion to the hub assembly and causing the abs to engage when it should not have been. in december 2010, the dealer performed a procedure where they cut a drain channel to allow water to drain out of the right rear hub assembly. this corrected the problem. however, the dealer acknowledged it was a problem on nissan models. when the consumer inquired about whether it would happen on the left side of the vehicle, the dealer stated it was possible. in january 2011, the dealer performed the same procedure on the left side as they did for the right side. however, after having the service done, they determined the abs was still engaging. upon further investigating it was determined that the continuing problem was due to the left rear wheel bearing assembly having become so corroded with water and moisture that it had to be replaced. *jb

Abs system failure, sensors inexplicably went bad driving down the road. when the abs system trips it cuts power to the accelerator while in traffic making it a hazard. once the failure happened it happens continuously. nissan has done nothing to fix this issue, and i was told by a technician at a dealership that this has been a recurring problem with the 2005 and 2006 maxima models. *tr
