Defect SummaryNissan is recalling 362,891 my 2003-2007 murano vehicles. the intake air ducts, which are connected to the intermediate resonator in the air intake system of the engine, may separate from the resonator with engine movement. this separation occurs due to the premature aging of the material used in the intake air ducts which causes excessive shrinking.
Consequence SummaryEngine may stall increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will inspect and replace/repair the appropriate components free of charge. the recall began on september 24, 2009. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

Defect SummaryOn certain passenger vehicles, the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint due to solder deformation caused by heat stress accelerated by the existence of flux residue during the soldering process.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause the service engine soon warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the crank position sensors. camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). vehicles involved in a previous recall campaign, 01v357, are also included in this new campaign. the replacement sensors used in that campaign are also affected. owner notification began on december 22, 2003. owners should contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or infiniti at 1-800-662-6200.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The service engine soon warning light has come on several times since i purchased my 2003 nissan murano. when in slow traffic or the engine has warmed up, when i press on the accelerator the car will not pick up speed, unless i depress it to the floor board. i'm terrified that i will be hit from the rear while waiting for my to get engine power. doing my research online i noticed there was a recall nhtsa campaign id # 03v455000) for this exact problem on this year, make and model. i called nissan with my vin # and was told that my vin# was not included in this recall. i'm very frustrated with nissan at this point. i don't understand how if my car is doing the exact same thing as described in the recall, same year, make & model, why they would take a chance in the safety of me as well as my family. is there anyone or anything else that i can do in order for nissan to honor this recall since it was have a direct effect on the safety of my family, myself and other drivers if it was to cause a crash as they describe in their recall. *tr

My nissan murano was a brand new 2003 it is now 8 years old with 46015 miles. the nissan service department in nh cared for my vehicle regularly; my first problem occurred when the engine started sending out black smoke, i fought for nissan to take responsibility for what was happening to my vehicle, they did; it took six to eight weeks to get the oil smell flushed out of the air conditioner. i understand wear and tear but, major engine faults happening so soon; nissan claims being the top vehicle manufactures. one of the many reasons i bought their brand. i did everything they said to keep my vehicle functioning; then it happened again; the rear powertrain reached its end, and oil leaking in the engine, the piston ball bearings is broken; and now the oil is leaking out. the average miles driven per year is 12000; my vehicle average 1500-miles yearly. i cannot nor will i battle over the 60 months/100,000 miles warranty contract; i am appealing to nissan corporation saying, look and see in my case my vehicles

When you come to a complete stop and then press the accelerator down the car does not move initially. if you hold the accelerator down after a few seconds the car will start to move. this has happened 4 times in the last 8 months after driving the car for about 20 mins. i have called nissan dealership in warner robins, ga but no assistance because the warranty ran out...i just purchased this vehicle jan 2011, they had to put in a brand new transmission a week after i purchased it but i was told months later the warranty ran out so i would have to pay for diagnostic check and this particular murano was not under the recall for cvt. i find that hard to believe because all the posts i've read regarding this exact same problem received some form of mail regarding a recall of some sort. today 3/25/12 my car hesitates to start.

Driving 60 mph when vehicle suddenly stopped running. brake and engine lights came on. was unable to get off roadway and other vehicle had to turn sharply to avoid hitting me. this was the first incident. have had two incidents since.

Engine stalls while driving or upon moving from a stopped position (street light, stop sign). problem found to be faulty camshaft position sensor. there is a recall for this (r3022/03v-345) but my vin doesn't fall within the range. perhaps this issue is more widespread.

The murano seat frames are known to have a weak spot where the weld will break -causing your drivers seat to rock back and forth - or lean badly to one side. this cause sometime an unintentional sudden move which cause changing the steering wheel direction. that might cause an accident in some cases. another major problem. is the car get into sudden power loss after a while of driving after making a full stop. for example on traffic light or stop sign. it will take very very slow taking off and then will get the power back after few seconds. this delay may cause an accident in example of making left turn on a traffic intersection. you will not have any power to move the car for about 2-4 seconds . thanks

Vehicle had new brakes - disks and pads added in early may 2011. july 29 2011 driving 20 + mph the vehicle started to sound like it had a flat tire. immediately took vehicle to the shop, glancing at the car, mechanic said may be a tire rod, but wanted to look at it more in depth. he stated that the noise was coming from something loose or cracked in the transfer case. he advised me that at some point transfer case will bust and all 4 wheels will lock up. he quoted me at least $2500 for repair. the location of the transfer case makes it very difficult to repair or service. why will nissan not stand behind this product. there is no rust on the vehicle, but with 150,000 miles on it now, is it worth the money to repair? i have already replace the intake manfold which cracked in november. what will be the next part to break - the engine itself? love my murano, but the company should back their product. my murano has been driven short distances a few times since because i do not want to be on the highway when my 4 tires lock up.

After extended idle, the vehicle becomes unresponsive to fuel feed. when the gas pedal is depressed there is a hesitation (2-5 seconds) and then suddenly the vehicle will lurch forward. the problem temporarily goes away when the car is shut off for a few minutes.

When the car first started acting up i was on the interstate on my way to work. it all of a sudded started stalling. i had to press the driving peddal all the way down and then it would take off with a very hard jolt. this would happen off and on especially if i was in stop and go traffic or came to a stop sign or stop light. the car would stall before taking off. i took it to the delearship and they kept it for three days and said they could find nothing. this is when the transmission was under warranty up to 120,000 miles. they said the car would have to do it while in ther shop or they could do nothing. i just found it so hard to believe that the car showed no signes of doing anything that i described while they had it and drove it for three days. well of course i got the car back and it was still doing the same thing. i took it back to them and they told me that it was the transmission and the repair on it alone was going to cost me 3600.00 all by itself. the car was doing the very same thing when i took it in to them the first time but surprisingly after the warranty was off they all of a sudden found the problem. somebody really needs to look into all of these complaints and get these situations under warranty so that these cars can be fixed properly. its not fair to take the car to the dealership about a problem that could have been fixed under warranty to take it back to them for the exact same thing and they tell you that the repair is no longer under warranty and you now have to pay for it.

While driving on the toll road in houston, my vehicle lost speed and power going up an overpass, and luckily i was able to pull off to the shoulder before complete loss of power. the check engine light came on prior to this event. i was able to crank the engine but it would not start. my passenger needed medical assistance due to the heat (100 degrees), and my vehicle had to be towed to the nissan dealer. this dealer indicated a dtcode p0340, cam sensor and crank sensor failure, and repairs totaled $765.93. researching this failure, i learned that there was an earlier recall of my exact vehicle for this failure, but my vin was not included in the recall. after searching the internet, i discovered many, many other owners of 2003 muranos with vin numbers outside of the recall are experiencing the exact same problem as the recall. here's a link to just one of several sites: http://www.thehappyrock.com/2007/11/15/have-your-car-fixed-for-free-auto-recalls-and-my-2003-nissan-murano/ calls to nissan usa, requesting they consider a recall of my vehicle, were denied. i am requesting via this complaint that the recall of 2003 muranos be expanded to include all vehicles with the failure code(s) relating to the cam sensor/crank sensor. the problem is a faulty weld, and although nissan denies a relationship between their earlier production failures and my auto's failure, there is a definite problem with their weld. i feel fortunate that i did not have my children in the car, and that i was able to steer to the side of the road on the tollroad before stalling. with the average tollroad speed well over 70 mph, my safety and the safety of my passenger was in question due to the location of the breakdown. i hope this never happens to anyone with young children or elderly passengers in the vehicle.

Nissan murano 2003. 3 major problems. 1- sudden loss of power after driving and stopping (for example trying to make left turn of a traffic light.) car does not response and move very slowly. (serious life threatening ) problem exist since has 65,000 fixed at 72000 miles and reoccurred after 5000 miles. (when car turned aff and on it will work fine for few minutes). when the car has around 62000 i took it to original dealer and for the loss of power problem and the service manager claimed that the car has no oil. but the sensor of the oil never showed low on oil 2- car stops all the sudden for no reason. then when try to turn on again it works fine for few weeks then problem repeat again. 3- car jerks so bad few times at speed 35 - 45 miles an hour and then check engine shows. after few days jerks again and the engine light goes off. i beleive the first 2 problem are too dangerous and might be a life threatening .

The first incident occurred while i was driving 60mph on the interstate. the car began do lose acceleration. it jerked and finally began to respond to the gas pedal. the ses light came on also. it was repaired at the dealership where they said it was the oxygen sensors. this cost $1000.00. five months later the car lost power while i was driving in a tunnel. i came to a complete stop, turned the car off and restarted it. i drove straight to the dealership but before getting there the car lost power again at a stoplight, , would not accelerate, finally regained some power and i basically coasted into the dealership. i was told it was now a camshaft and crankshaft sensor. this cost 420.00. a few weeks later after coming off the ramp of the interstate the car lurched so hard that it hurt my back. i felt like it jumped out of gear but it was still in drive and lost acceleration again. i restarted it and called the dealership again. the next day the ses light came on. i have researched this on the computer and found out that many 2003 nissan muranos were recalled for this very problem but my vin number is not on the list. it stated that the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint and needs to be replaced. it stated that the car could stop without warning and cause a crash.

Murnao has been maintained wth all oil changes/schd mx done by the book. couple of days ago i was sitting in line at a drive thru and the car abruptly died. there were no warning lights prior to the event. the service engine soon light came on then went back off after a restart. then yesterday it died while slowing to a stop sign at aprox 15 mph. this time the service light stayed on after the restart. again this morning it died, this time in traffic while traveling at aprox 50 mph. parked the murano and borrowed a friends car for the rest of the day. did my homework online and noticed the recall for this engine stall. got the engine codes from a local shop and suprise; camshaft position/crank position sensors. of course when i called nissan my vin is not affected by the recall 03v455000. contacted local nissan dealer, est repair costs $600+. nissan is not holding up its end of thier deal on this vehicle. please take note, do not buy nissan.

2003 nissan murano. consumer states engine abruptly shut off and the vehicle lost all power. *tgw the consumer was able to gradually steer the vehicle to the emergency lane. after numerous attempts, he was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and a diagnostic test revealed fuel pump failure. the consumer stated this was not the first time the engine abruptly shut off. the first incident happened in july 2007. but, the vehicle was restarted and was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. prior to the first two incidents, the engine stalled on may 10, 2010. after numerous attempts, the consumer was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they determined the crank sensor was faulty. the consumer stated there have been other repairs such as: alternator failure, the passenger door locks routinely malfunctioned during extreme heat, the driver's power seat malfunctioned, the motor mounts were cracked, the axles were loose, and the intake hose failed. *jb

My 2003 nissan murano sl will sometimes be slow to respond to accelerator inputs. usually after the vehicle has been driven about an hour, if i come to a stop at a red light or an off ramp, when i press the accelerator, nothing happens for a second or two, then the vehicle jumps forward at a rapid rate like i floored the gas pedal. this happens whether i depress the accelerator slightly or aggressively. sometimes if it gets too bad, i will turn the car off then start it up again to reset the computer and it will fix the issue for a while. it is obviously some computer thing. my dealer is useless and i am tired of taking the car in to him. he doesn't fix things well if i tell him what is wrong, to ask him to diagnose a problem would be agonizing. i am just living with this until it gets worse, but it is definitely a safety issue.

In jan 2010 while traveling on interstate at 65 mph the engine of my 2003 nissan murano suddenly died leaving me with no power steering or power brakes. it was terrifying, but luckily, i managed to get to shoulder without an accident. car engine restarted without hesitation. after waiting 5 minutes with engine idling smoothly with no apparent problem, i exited to frontage road at next exit and, 3 miles later, at 30 mph the engine suddenly died again. restarted and pulled into nearby parking lot. car again restarted without problem. after 10 minutes of idling smoothly, engine died while parked. had car towed to nissan dealer. nissan shop reported that the crankshaft position sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. i found that there was recall issued in 2003 for 2003 model year nissan murano for exactly this issue, but both dealer and nissan usa, when contacted by me, said the recall did not apply to my vin # (even though nhtsa indicated recall affected 600,000 vehicles). i believe the failure of my crankshaft position sensor is directly related to the faulty solder joints in the circuit boards for the crankshaft position sensor as described in this recall. i believe the following recall should be expanded to include all 2003 model year nissan murano vehicles: nhtsa campaign id number: 03v455000, nissan recall #: r3022). *tr

During a routine service of my 2003 nissan murano, which has 33,293 miles on the odometer, the service technician noticed radiator fluid leaking from a hose that is located behind a fan-belt tension pulley. upon closer inspection it was discovered that the bracket on which the pulley is mounted had failed causing the pulley to be pushed out of alignment and subsequently damaging the hose and belt, resulting in a repair cost of $450.27. the repair consisted of replacing all the effected components at my expense. as far as i know, the defective bracket was replaced with an identical item sharing the same defective qualities. nissan will not divulge the reason for the brackets failure. my concern is: if this pulley devise had broken off the vehicle due to the failure of the bracket while i was driving at speed, it would have done incalculable damage ,possibly causing me to loose control of the vehicle, probably causing an accident resulting in injury or loss of life. when i asked the service manager what caused the bracket to fail, he said he didn't know, but that i should consider myself fortunate that he discovered the problem when he did. apparently, other owners were not so fortunate, their cars had to be towed and the damage was much more extensive. after the repairs were completed i asked to be given the defective and damaged parts and now have them in my possession. *tr

Start having problems with my 2003 nissan murano around 80,000 miles. the car started to skip while running and soon after, the car seems to have no power. sometime after driving it for 20 mins or more mostly coming off the highway, i would experience no power when accelerate. after turning, the car off and allow it to sit for 10 mins. the problem did not repeat until again driving over 20 mins and repeat as above. my service engine soon light came on shortly afterwards. i had my local autozone to run a diags test and two codes came up p0011camshaft position bank 1 & p0021 camshaft position bank 2. i took the car to nissan dealership and they too ran a diags test and both codes were present for failed intake timing sensors. they said the cars oil pressure was low and recommended a change. nissan replaced both camshaft censors on 1/08/09. total repairs & labor was $430.00 on 06/01/09 again the car was repeating the same problems. i took the car back to the same nissan dealership and they ran another diags test. again, codes p0011 & p0021 were present. the service tech explains the reason for the code was due to insufficient oil changes. also, explain the car needs the 90000 mile service treatments. they performed the 27-point inspection all changed air filter, battery service lube locks, oil & filter change rotate tires. total repairs and labor $334.99. when i pick the car up, the car still did not have the power it normally had before all the problems, however the engine check light was off and the tech told me to drive it and bring it back if problem occur. my total repairs this time $334.99. the car continue to miss & skip and would continue to have a loss of power and would delay when accelerating after driving more than 20 mins in 80 degree temp. i am still having problems; my vehicle should be part of the 03v455000 recall circuit board for the crank position sensors. *tr

I have a nissan murano 2003, the check engine light has come on several times, and the car stalls when i press on gas it takes about 5 seconds or so to accelerate which almost caused an accident, one time earlier the car stalled stopped while driving on the highway and could have caused perhaps a deadly accident. i have been to nissan dealer several times more then 4 with the same issue engine light and the issues. the latest time i went to nissan they said it could be the transmission perhaps, this is a faulty car and something needs to be done. *tr

I own 2003 nissan murano with around 111000 miles on it. at the beginning of july 2009 my car all of sudden lost all power when i was driving at around 40 mph, the engine seized, the check engine light came on. luckily i was able to stop the car without any crash. i took the car to pep boys auto repair chain. i was told the failure happened due to a faulty crank position sensor. i had the repair made and the car is running fine now. when i was looking at your database i realized that there was a recall on 2003 nissan murano for the exact same problem that happened to me. the nhtsa campaign number for that recall was 03v455000. i contacted nissan and was told my car did not fall under the recall as it was manufactured in a different plant than recalled vehicles. any way i want to report this issue as i consider this a serious safety issue. after the engine seized driving at 40 mph i am glad i did not lose control of the car (there was no other vehicles around which helped) this is the information from recall 03v455000, this is exactly what happened to my car: this could cause the service engine soon warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash. *tr

My 2003 nissan murano has been stalling with no warning lights beforehand. last week, the nissan dealer told me that i needed a new battery which cost me $189. this week, my murano is still stalling. now, they told me that i need a new air flow meter and spark plugs which will cost me $821.64. that's more than $1,000 in two weeks on a car that's 6 years old with 80,000 miles! not to mention that the transmission had to be replaced at around $60,000... and numerous other repairs. nissan is a company that does not stand behind its product....and i'm absolutely fed up with it. *tr

Vehicle service engine soon light has come on, vehicle has varying pauses between pressing gas and vehicle reaction, vehicle stopped running while driving (with my pregnant wife driving and 18 month old son in vehicle), and restart has long crank duration. on april 17th, vehicle turned off at stop light while i was driving and restarted after long crank period. i pulled off to parking lot and car turned off and failed to recrank. this creates a very very dangerous condition in the vehicle just shutting off while driving! dealership indicated the cam sensors needed to be replaced. i have read that several other people have had similar experiences through researching this problem. i also understand that there has been a recall on crank position sensor or cam position sensor for this vehicle (year, make, model) for these exact problems, but when inquiring to nissan about this, my vin was not associated with the recall, despite being the same make, model, and year! *tr

I have a 2003 murano, that continues to have persistent problems with failing camshaft sensors. there is a specific recall that covers camshaft and crankshaft sensor design issues in the 2003 murano, but nissan has refused to cover the work, since my vin doesn't fall within the recall range. i have even talked to the vp of east cost customer service, who told me to report the problem to the appropriate governmental agency. we have experienced all the problems that are described in the recall multiple different times over the last year. these are :service engine soon warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash. it also includes the car stalling at 45 mph for my wife on a dangerous winding road. for a small women without power steering or power brakes, this situation was extremely dangerous. both camshaft sensors have been replaced already, and one of them is failing again for the third time. i have already spent $500, and it will cost at least that much to pay for the changes that nissan requires under the recall to really fix the nissan design flaw. the main problem is that nissan refuses to fix the problem, even though it is obvious that i have the exact same problems as the recall. *tr

On september 12, 2007, i took my car to keras nissan located at 2080 covington pike in memphis, tennessee, because the shock absorbers were failing in the front of the truck and again the check engine soon light came on. i decided to take my truck to a different dealership because i no longer trusted the workmanship of dobbs nissan, where i made the initial purchase. i dealt with travis, a service advisor that advised me they would find the problems. after my vehicle was serviced, i was informed that the motor was non-repairable. travis stated that it looked as if i never serviced the engine with oil. i explained that i have regularly scheduled maintenance on this vehicle. he stated that i would need to gather all of my oil change receipts to present to nissan warranty to prove regular maintenance have been performed to replace the engine. oil changes and dates of receipts provided: dobbs nissan: april 29, 2006 september 26, 2006 june 13, 2007 danny?s car care: march 9, 2007 march 28, 2007 august 18, 2007 goodyear: june 23, 2006 january 3, 2007 firestone: november 02, 2006 receipts the morning of september 15, 2007. he contacted me around 11:15 am to inform me that the engine replacement was denied, due to, ?lack of maintenance?. i asked travis to explain to me in detail the reason for the denial, and his reply was simply, lack of maintenance?. nothing has been done to correct the failure on a warranted engine. *jb

I have a 03 murano sl. purchased off a lease turn in. certified suv. at 79,000 miles brought to dealer with engine clicking noise in dec. 09.. dealer could not find problem. noise continued and brought it back in january020010. they changed pully assembly. i called to tell them noise was still there. was told to check oil from time to time. i saw on my service report they put down check engine light was on and was low on oil. i know for a fact this is a lie. told them to remove it from the report. they refused. now here is the real problem. i was on the garden state parkway and i lost power. i restarted the suv and the engine produced a very loud ratting noise. i had it towed to nissan, since they serviced this from when it was originally sold and i let them service to protect the warrant and they would have all the records. well, the timing chain broke. i was told they have plastic guides to guide the timing chain and these will wear and cause the chain to slip. this occurred at 83,000 miles. nissan is refusing to help with the replacement engine. they want $8600 for a new engine. on a 2003 is absurd. a used engine with 60,000 miles and no warranty will cost $5600. i feel the service misdiagnosed my problem, never searched for the real problem in dec. 09 and falsely put on the report the check engine light was on and it was low on oil to protect themselves from any problems since dec. i had a extended warranty, which i cancelled when they did not cover engine seal leak, tie rod problem and trans axle seal leak, in the extended warranty brochure it mentions all the above as covered items. after fighting with dealer and corporate i canceled the warranty. the uncovered repairs cost me over $2500. this was a nissan backed extended warranty. i now have a complaint with somerset county where the dealer is located and the state of new jersey about all the red tape nissan has put up to have covered repairs actually covered. if thisfails, small claims ct. is next.

I drive a 2003 nissan murano. i bought it used in 2005, in the last few years i have complained to the dealership (while still under warranty) that the car was almost stalling out on me while in drive. nissan told me they could find nothing wrong and so nothing was repaired. in on december 3, 2009 i was leaving my parking garage at work and my car stalled out completely; it then took 15 minutes before it would re-start. after that, i drove home without incident and assumed that it was just bad gas or something. two weeks later, i was traveling at 50 mph when my car completely shut down, nearly causing an accident with my 7 year-old in the car with me. after that, my service engine light came on and i had loss of engine power. i then had the car towed to my mechanic on 1/21, where he ran a diagnostic and found that my crank position sensor and cam position sensor needed to be replaced. my mechanic also found that there had been a recall on the 2003 murano for that reason, and he told me to have my car towed to nissan since i had reported issues while under warranty and there was a know recall for this problem. i towed my car to nissan that day and they told me that because i was no longer under warranty, and even though i had reported it prior to expiration, they would not repair the problem. i also advised them that i was fully aware of the recall. they then told me that my vin was off by the last four digits and because of that, again, they were not obligated to fix it under the recall or warranty. i have since had the repair completed with my mechanic, but another friend of mine just had the same exact thing happen with her 2008 nissan (which they also refused to repair under her warranty). i am extremely concerned that nissan does not care about the safety of it's drivers since this is obviously a known problem. this is not a maintenance issue, but a safety one. this issue needs to be looked into so that innocent people do not die. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano. yesterday as i was pulling into the driveway, i noticed it was overheating a little. i immediately called the repair place and had them come and take it to be serviced. they just called to inform me that the radiator is cracked and the thermostat housing needs to be replaced at a total of $1144.60. t here are 75000 miles on this car and it has always gone for scheduled maintenance, oil changes, and everything required to keep it running optimally. have read about radiator cracks from several other murano owners, and knowing the other problems i have had with my lemon of a car - they had to replace the alternator 3 times - i would seriously believe that there are going to be more and more problems with the radiators cracking on other vehicles. *tr

I have a 2003 nissan murano sl. i was getting an oil change and noticed a discharge in my radiator overflow. i asked the guy to drain the radiator and reservoir and refill it with fresh antifreeze. the discharge returned and the car became disabled in a busy intersection, with no warning light prior. i had it towed to the dealer and they seemed to know exactly the issue. the transmission fluid had mixed with the radiator coolant?! they charged me $1265.76 and said it wasn't covered because i was beyond 36,000 miles. the radiator looks new and i just have to take their word for this, even though they can't show me the problem. since they were so quick to identify this problem, i have to think they are seeing it a lot and maybe this should be a recall. i took the old radiator with me and still have it. your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. *nm

I bought my 2003 murano in january of 2008. every time i had an oil change done i was told that i had a very low amount. the low amount was never looked at as a problem. when i was getting a recall completed i was telling the service department employee about my low oil level when i took my car every 3,000 miles. he asked if i had any oil leaks that were left on the ground when i moved my car. i let him know that i have never seen oil on the ground. i also let him know that i hear a rattling noise sometimes when accelerating from a stopped position and sometimes my car gets stuck when i try to accelerate and then after a few seconds it will zoom forward. i have almost rear ended around 6 cars. i try to let cars get a little ways in front of me if it gets stuck so i do not rear end the car in front of me. i should not have to do this. he said that the recall of the alternator would fix the issues with the car getting stuck and they would check the engine. i still have this problem today with the car getting stuck. i had an oil consumption test done every 1,000 miles and by time i made it to the 2,000 miles my oil level was low. so they never did a third oil consumption test like they said they would. then i was told that they would need to replace the entire engine. i have seen many complaints about the same issue. i feel that the engines that were placed in the 2003 nissan muranos were defective and should be recalled because this could cause an accident and i have a 14 month old son in my car with me 90% of the time. therefore not only is my life and others in cars around me in jeopardy so is my son's life. this defect should be looked into immediately because i am sure there are many other people have this same issue. there is one other issue i had where i had unlocked my doors and put my child in the car. when i went to get in the car had locked on it's own. luckily we were at the house and had a spare key. i have learned that this issue common. *cn

Heard noise from engine compartment under low rpm range. took vehicle to local nissan dealer for inspection of problem and mechanic could not duplicate but was advised by shop mechanic about worn drive belt. vehicle is @ 34,000 miles. upon investigation at home from top of engine bay, i noticed ac/alternator idler pulley was vibrating and rotating of axis to the crack pulley. i investigated online at www.nissanmurano.org for similar problems. i found a series of reports that the bracket that holds the idle pulley was broken and causes cutting into the adjustment arm and causing the noise (eventually failing). returned vehicle to the dealer and informed dealer of idler pulley problem researched online and request belt service. when mechanic removed the belt, the idler pulley assembly was found to be broken. i believe this is a serious design issue and nissan should provide a better design and recall a $16 part. potential issues of failure of pulley: 1) nearby vicinity of the radiator coolant return hose can cut by broken bracket and can cause engine to overheat. 2) could lead to an alternator not providing energy to the car and a more serious consequences. *tr updated 01/11/08. *lj updated *jb

Check engine light came on and the car was missing as it was driven. took it to mechanic and they discovered that the #1 cylinder had no compression. this is with only 70,000 miles on it. it ended up needed a valve job - $3,200. when they took off that part of the engine to have it machined, they discovered that the rear catalytic converter failed and the front one was about to fail. in the case of the cylinder issue and the catalytic converter issue i was able to visually see and confirm what they were talking about. they said that the pieces of the failed rear catalytic converter more than likely got sucked back into the cylinder, scratching the surface of it and causing the compression loss. since there was a failure of the catalytic converters and it was under the 8year/80,000 limit i called nissan looking for reimbursement on at least the catalytic converters cost. they said they were under warranty until 2011, which is eight years, but that it wasn't covered because it would only be covered if there was a recall. that is not what the epa fact sheet epa420-f-96-020 says. i will try to contact another nisan location about this issue as they would not help me or transfer me to anyone else. so i needed a valve job and two new catalytic converters because of this. at this point, the old catalytic converters are not available. *tr

I bought my suv new in june 2003. a month after it started shutting off as if it was out of gas. the dealer stated that nothing was wrong with it. they took it for a week and fixed the problem after my insistence. a month later the radio and all the power sockets in my car started kicking out and i went through a box of 300 fuses. again, the dealer said that there was nothing wrong. the scariest problem is that my car will just stall out in stop and go traffic. i told them of this problem 18 months after i got the car. it was still under warranty. they stated that there was nothing wrong with the car and that i needed the mile service to be done as well as a transmission flush. this was done for $500 and the problem still occurred. i recently found out that it is a throttle body that the car needs. the part is $160. the service is $2000. i have been telling them that i had this problem for three years. it was just diagnosed, by a mechanic other than nissan due to my fear after a near accident. i was trying to make a left hand turn and the car would not drive or move. i was in the intersection and my daughter was in the back seat. my foot was to the floor on the pedal. i screamed out of the impending accident. the oncoming car unaware of my dilemma slowed down and dipped to the other lane but not after blowing the horn at me. the catalytic converter was replaced twice in a 2 year period. this is ridiculous. by the way the car was recalled 3 times in a three year period. i need help. i have spent $7000 in repairs to the car since i bought it. i have all the receipts from nissan for the service. *tr
