I have a 2003 nissan murano with around 60,000 miles on it. the driver's door lock actuator has stopped working and from my research, it seems to be a very common problem with muranos. i believe that this is a safety issue and should be a recall since the problem is so wide spread but my dealer is unwilling to take it up with nissan. can you help?

1.) my driver and passenger door lock actuators are not working as of yesterday 4/13/11. i have to use my key to unlock my door- the fab will not work. from the outside and my unlock/lock button does not work on the inside either. the fab does unlock the rears doors only. 2.) failure occurs every time 3.) have not fixed it yet because based on research, this is a nissan issue that needs to be addressed. i signed a recent petition with over 624 other signatures of people with similar problems. nissan needs to fix this now as it is a huge safety issue and could result in harm to vehicle owners if they cannot lock their doors instantly

I have a 2003 nissan murano and i'm having problems with the electric door locks. they work intermittently and i've heard from my other people that have the same problem. i'm concerned that in the event of a crash or fire, my wife may not be able to open the doors in a timely manner to escape the car. this is a serious problem and should be recalled by nissan before a serious probem occurs that could result in loss of life. again...this is a common problem among murano owners. thank you

I bought my 2003 murano in january of 2008. every time i had an oil change done i was told that i had a very low amount. the low amount was never looked at as a problem. when i was getting a recall completed i was telling the service department employee about my low oil level when i took my car every 3,000 miles. he asked if i had any oil leaks that were left on the ground when i moved my car. i let him know that i have never seen oil on the ground. i also let him know that i hear a rattling noise sometimes when accelerating from a stopped position and sometimes my car gets stuck when i try to accelerate and then after a few seconds it will zoom forward. i have almost rear ended around 6 cars. i try to let cars get a little ways in front of me if it gets stuck so i do not rear end the car in front of me. i should not have to do this. he said that the recall of the alternator would fix the issues with the car getting stuck and they would check the engine. i still have this problem today with the car getting stuck. i had an oil consumption test done every 1,000 miles and by time i made it to the 2,000 miles my oil level was low. so they never did a third oil consumption test like they said they would. then i was told that they would need to replace the entire engine. i have seen many complaints about the same issue. i feel that the engines that were placed in the 2003 nissan muranos were defective and should be recalled because this could cause an accident and i have a 14 month old son in my car with me 90% of the time. therefore not only is my life and others in cars around me in jeopardy so is my son's life. this defect should be looked into immediately because i am sure there are many other people have this same issue. there is one other issue i had where i had unlocked my doors and put my child in the car. when i went to get in the car had locked on it's own. luckily we were at the house and had a spare key. i have learned that this issue common. *cn

I have a 2003 nissan murano and recently started having problems with the door locks. the failure occurs every single time. the driver door won't lock unless i lock it manually and won't unlock unless done manually. the passenger door and rear left door are more sporadic. sometimes they lock sometimes they don't sometimes they lock halfway and then won't open and there is no keylock to open the rear and passenger side doors so i have to open the drivers door to then try and open the other doors. i was told by nissan that new door actuators are required. i was lucky and my extended warranty paid for my driver's door repair but refused the other two doors. *tr

Fuel door on my 2003 murano locked up and could not be opened with directions in owners manual. took to dealer and dealer determined problem was likely in the computer module behind the dash. it was going to be $250 in labor, the diagnostic charge of $90, and possibly a $300 parts charge to fix. i told the dealership to disable the locking mechanism, at a cost of $135. *jb

2003 nissan murano se 4wd has several issues. firstly the right side sun visor clip is defective and will not hold visor in place: 3 trips to dealer have not resolved this issue as they never have the part. secondly the cvt transmission presents a problem on holding the vehicle in place on a uphill incline...if you don't brake, the vehicle just rolls back, as opposed to standard auto transmission which locks, and prevents significant rollback. *cb

2003 nissan murano. consumer states engine abruptly shut off and the vehicle lost all power. *tgw the consumer was able to gradually steer the vehicle to the emergency lane. after numerous attempts, he was unable to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and a diagnostic test revealed fuel pump failure. the consumer stated this was not the first time the engine abruptly shut off. the first incident happened in july 2007. but, the vehicle was restarted and was taken to the dealer, but they were unable to find a problem. prior to the first two incidents, the engine stalled on may 10, 2010. after numerous attempts, the consumer was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they determined the crank sensor was faulty. the consumer stated there have been other repairs such as: alternator failure, the passenger door locks routinely malfunctioned during extreme heat, the driver's power seat malfunctioned, the motor mounts were cracked, the axles were loose, and the intake hose failed. *jb

I have had to bring my car in 7 times for doors randomly locking themselves. it has happened twice while the car was running and 3 times upon fueling the car. no resolve to the issue and have been told at my latest visit (yesterday) their conclusion is that it is me locking them subconsciously! *jb

Locked out of vehicle 5 times with key in ignition, 2 times with the motor running. driver door appears to lock slightly when pulling door handle. i believe the push-in lock above the door release does not open all the way or the driver's handle can easily push it partially closed accidentally. *jb
