Initially, this car would stop in the middle of intersection and on the highway due to a faulty alternator. i almost got in an accident . the car would loss power and then take off and finally the car would stop on a busy highway. i almost got killed 3 times due the car stalling out on me. the transmission died on me 3 times. the first two times, i had only 20-30,000 miles. ( i puchased the car brand new). the very last time they replaced the transmission (costing me $6, 000) i had about 160,000 miles. even after having nissan replace the transmission 3 times, the car still stalls or shuts off while in motion. about a year ago, i had new cat convertors installed, a new manifold and exhuast installed. it ran for about 6 months and now it is still stalling out and stopping (while in motion) me. this is very dangerous. now nissan thinks the crank shaft positioning is the cause of the problem but refuse to do it for free because the vin# to my car is not listed with the rest of the 2003 murano's (recall list). this i think is ridiculus. it seems to me that nissan has alot problems with their older murano's with regards to stalling, stopping suddenly while in motion. they seem to care less if the owners life is at risk. i have been dealing with these issues, since i first purchased the car. it is a piece of junk and it is an extreme hazard to drive on the highway.

I climbed into my vehichle (1003 nissan murano) after work. as soon as i sat down i heard a loud metallic pop and the seat sank down on the left side. i removed the side cover of the driver's seat and found that a rear support bar of the seat frame had broken in two places. the vehichle was parked and not running when this happened.

The service engine soon warning light has come on several times since i purchased my 2003 nissan murano. when in slow traffic or the engine has warmed up, when i press on the accelerator the car will not pick up speed, unless i depress it to the floor board. i'm terrified that i will be hit from the rear while waiting for my to get engine power. doing my research online i noticed there was a recall nhtsa campaign id # 03v455000) for this exact problem on this year, make and model. i called nissan with my vin # and was told that my vin# was not included in this recall. i'm very frustrated with nissan at this point. i don't understand how if my car is doing the exact same thing as described in the recall, same year, make & model, why they would take a chance in the safety of me as well as my family. is there anyone or anything else that i can do in order for nissan to honor this recall since it was have a direct effect on the safety of my family, myself and other drivers if it was to cause a crash as they describe in their recall.

When you push on the gas the car does not go for a few seconds then when it goes it lunges forward. this makes it very hard to make a left turn in front of traffic, you do not know if the car is going to move at first or not. and when you are in stop and go traffic and go to move up just a little bit the car does not go then when it does you almost hit the car in front of you. my understanding is this is the cvt vavle body. my car is giving error code p1722 per the dealer. the paperwork they gave me says estem spd. sig.

I continue to have episodic loss of power with my 03 murano. all instances occur after driving at interstate speed for more than 30 minutes at a rate of between 65 -80 mph during times of high heat (100 degrees+). the first incident occurred in june 2010 while driving from phoenix to flagstaff. going up a long incline, i noticed that my speed was declining (i was using cruise control). pushing on the accelerator - no response. the car continued to decelerate on it's own as i struggled to both change lines to get to the nonexistent shoulder of the road and avoid getting hit by the semitrucks. turned off the car for 30 minutes and waited. turned it back on and the car ran. i have since not used cruise control. they could find nothing wrong; car did same thing immediately after, drove it back to the shop - they could not replicate it! june 2011 - driving from la to phoenix, 105 degrees and 2 hours in to the trip, the car does the same thing. pulled off the road, waited. tried again; could go 10 miles before the car began losing power. towed to a dealer - who could not reproduce the incident. april 2012 - driving from tucson to phoenix; 105 degrees and 72 miles into the trip. loss of power on the interstate; 1 hr of waiting, and power returns, but i did not trust this car to get me home (nor did i want to be stalled in the middle of an az desert waiting for a tow truck.) towed to a different nissan dealer. i have had this car in and had many things done and replaced - the cam sensor, transmission fluid, etc. no one can figure this out and more frustrating is that not one mechanic can replicate this loss of power/lack of response to the accelerator.

The power locks randomly don't work using the fob or inside auto lock button. they can be used manually, but are not always functional using the power function.

Just over two years ago the automatic driver's side door lock became unreliable. there are times when the door must be manually locked or unlocked. the situation seems to be exacerbated by heat and direct sunlight on the driver's side door. my concern is that not knowing if the door is locked or unlocked creates a safety hazard both while driving and in the event of a need for quick exit from the vehicle. simply looking at the manual locking switch can be deceptive because it will move into the locked position without fully engaging the lock. for safety reasons i prefer to drive with the doors locked. having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. if anyone can simply open the door to gain access, there is a significant increased risk of carjacking, injury, theft, etc. having the doors lock correctly is a basic safety precaution. additionally, in emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. in this automated age we tend to rely on the automated systems of our vehicles and it's unfamiliar to resort to the manual locking system, which as i explained above can be deceptive. i can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency. in emergencies every second counts. the locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. the dealer charges an average of $1600 to have all the solenoids replaced which amounts to making the owner pay for a known safety issue. at this price many will forgo getting the problem fixed, putting their family members at risk with the above mishap examples. nissan should recall the affected vehicles and repair this safety issue.

I was driving on the highway at 50mph and all of a sudden murano lost acceleration, gas pedal wasn't working at all. some how i pulled over and turn ignition off and back on and it worked fine. now when is a stop and go situation it does the same thing won't accelerate until like 5 seconds later and in a very dangerous way. i heard lots of people having the same problems and it's life treatning situation.

Vehicle had new brakes - disks and pads added in early may 2011. july 29 2011 driving 20 + mph the vehicle started to sound like it had a flat tire. immediately took vehicle to the shop, glancing at the car, mechanic said may be a tire rod, but wanted to look at it more in depth. he stated that the noise was coming from something loose or cracked in the transfer case. he advised me that at some point transfer case will bust and all 4 wheels will lock up. he quoted me at least $2500 for repair. the location of the transfer case makes it very difficult to repair or service. why will nissan not stand behind this product. there is no rust on the vehicle, but with 150,000 miles on it now, is it worth the money to repair? i have already replace the intake manfold which cracked in november. what will be the next part to break - the engine itself? love my murano, but the company should back their product. my murano has been driven short distances a few times since because i do not want to be on the highway when my 4 tires lock up.

While driving on the toll road in houston, my vehicle lost speed and power going up an overpass, and luckily i was able to pull off to the shoulder before complete loss of power. the check engine light came on prior to this event. i was able to crank the engine but it would not start. my passenger needed medical assistance due to the heat (100 degrees), and my vehicle had to be towed to the nissan dealer. this dealer indicated a dtcode p0340, cam sensor and crank sensor failure, and repairs totaled $765.93. researching this failure, i learned that there was an earlier recall of my exact vehicle for this failure, but my vin was not included in the recall. after searching the internet, i discovered many, many other owners of 2003 muranos with vin numbers outside of the recall are experiencing the exact same problem as the recall. here's a link to just one of several sites: http://www.thehappyrock.com/2007/11/15/have-your-car-fixed-for-free-auto-recalls-and-my-2003-nissan-murano/ calls to nissan usa, requesting they consider a recall of my vehicle, were denied. i am requesting via this complaint that the recall of 2003 muranos be expanded to include all vehicles with the failure code(s) relating to the cam sensor/crank sensor. the problem is a faulty weld, and although nissan denies a relationship between their earlier production failures and my auto's failure, there is a definite problem with their weld. i feel fortunate that i did not have my children in the car, and that i was able to steer to the side of the road on the tollroad before stalling. with the average tollroad speed well over 70 mph, my safety and the safety of my passenger was in question due to the location of the breakdown. i hope this never happens to anyone with young children or elderly passengers in the vehicle.

Stop all of a sudden when driving it, very dangerous if driving on highway. brought to body shop and checked, cam sensor problem should have a recall. call nissan, said vin number doesn't show any recall. cost 300 to fix, problem may happen again. nissan very unresponsible!

When driving 2 hours or more on highway and when entering in stop and go traffic , engine does not respond to the gas pedal for 3-5 seconds and then it darts forward. this happened 4 or more times in one occurrence. nissan murano se 2003 awd. i bought 1 month ago at 121000 mile.

Dipstick is unreadable, as a result i have changed my oil every 1500miles instead of 3000, because if i wait till 3000 miles there is only a quart to quart and half left in the engine, this has been ongoing since i bought the car but never reported, although i did tell the autodealer repair center about it and got no response

I have a 2003 nissan murano. at approximately 81000 miles i noticed a burning oil smell after driving. i had the car checked and the transfer case was out of oil. the service dept. resealed the transfer case under extended warranty. at about 96000 miles i had the vehicle checked out before end of warranty and again the transfer case leaked out the oil and i had service on transfer case. the seals had to be redone, also under extended warranty. i have the car in now for routine service with transmission fluid flush and fill and because i am getting a strange ticking noise when accelerating. notified that cvt fluid leaking onto outside of transfer case. needs transmission seal redone. over $2000. i am getting the seal redone under transmission 120000 warranty from nissan. dealership says i should get the transfe rcase seals redone but they are not covered under the transmission warranty and i cannot afford the close to $2000 extra this would cost. seems that the seals should last more than 8000 miles as they seemed too after buying the vehicle new and not replacing them until after 50000 miles. after reading many complaints about a pressure valve and other transmission issues i believe the transmission sould be replaced as i am very concerned that just replacing the tranmission forward seal(?) will not correct the leaking problems with the transmissionand transfer case and that the transmission will go out after the factory warranty. i believe that there is a problem with the transfer case/transmission in this year/model of vehicle and that nissan knowns this. there sould be a recall.

My 2003 nissan murano when in stop and go traffic does not accelertate when given gas. you can hold the peddle to the floor and the car rolls forward for a couple of seconds and then kicks in. it is extremely dangerous when trying to turn or crossing a street. i have been dealing with the problem for about a year and nissan keeps telling me different things. it seems to be a big problem from posts i have found on the internet with the same exact symptoms.

I own a 2003 nissan murano. i bought the vechile several months ago.. last night we were driving on a very curvy mountain road when a car came into sight. when we switched to dim, the lights went out completely. this put us in total darkness. it took a minute to adjust our eyes and realize what happened. this has happened on several occasions. the dimmer switch is on the steering wheel. the switch to turn them off is on the end of the dimmer handle. we keep our runner lights on each time we are driving the car. some how when you go to switch the lights the knob turns to off, which makes them go out, when you switch from bright to dim and from dim to bright. this is a very scary situation to be in. i wonder if other folks have had a similar problem. we were very fortunate that we did not crash.

I was driving to take my boss and 2 coworkers to lunch. i was on robins af base in the left hand exit lane. my car just all of a sudden lost power and stalled... no brakes... no power... all the lights on the front dashboard came on. i almost got hit in the rear by the car behind me because i was in a turn lane and my car just stopped in front of them. i was able to restart my car and turn around and immediately parked it and we had to walk a ways to get to another vehicle to drive... then my husband came and drove the car to mechanic who lives up the street who hooked it up to the sensor thing... it is the cam shaft sensor. now looking at the other complanints i am afraid that there is more that will occur. i can't really trust the dealorship where i bought it because they tried on several occasions to charge for services not needed each at least $800. i paid $80 to have my tires balanced and they only balanced 3 of the 4! so many people have a problem with the cam sensor that nissan really needs to do something for the vehicles not on the list. this is not right for all the customers who paid good money for a working vehicle in good condition. i still have to contact the dealor but i don't expect from the previous complaints they will be any help and i refuse to pay that kind of money for a default in the vehicle that they are aware of and refuse to recall! please make note that my 2003 nissan murano is among those with the cam sensor problem and not on the list. something needs to be done about this if nissan expects good reviews and repeat customers... if they don't well, i will go to every place i can post to and share my unsatisfied customer service story.

When in traffic under appx 10 mph, you accelerate and it does nothing, then suddenly takes off. you don't know when it is going to happen. it is very random and once it starts doing it, it keeps doing it until you stop the engine and restart the car. i have to pull out on a busy street in the afternoon, and have almost been hit. i have taken it to two nissan dealerships and all they do is say it is a vacuum line. they said i needed new motor mounts to keep the engine stable so that they won't get loose. i had them replaced and it did not fix the problem. the problem does not throw an error code, so no one, including a very reputable auto repair garage, can fix it. we have even started guessing what the problem might be, ie, fuel injectors - had them cleaned - no change. i have now spent almost $3k and i still have the same problem. nissan tells me that there is a recall, but not for my serial number. i have been dealing with this since about may. *tr
