Initially, this car would stop in the middle of intersection and on the highway due to a faulty alternator. i almost got in an accident . the car would loss power and then take off and finally the car would stop on a busy highway. i almost got killed 3 times due the car stalling out on me. the transmission died on me 3 times. the first two times, i had only 20-30,000 miles. ( i puchased the car brand new). the very last time they replaced the transmission (costing me $6, 000) i had about 160,000 miles. even after having nissan replace the transmission 3 times, the car still stalls or shuts off while in motion. about a year ago, i had new cat convertors installed, a new manifold and exhuast installed. it ran for about 6 months and now it is still stalling out and stopping (while in motion) me. this is very dangerous. now nissan thinks the crank shaft positioning is the cause of the problem but refuse to do it for free because the vin# to my car is not listed with the rest of the 2003 murano's (recall list). this i think is ridiculus. it seems to me that nissan has alot problems with their older murano's with regards to stalling, stopping suddenly while in motion. they seem to care less if the owners life is at risk. i have been dealing with these issues, since i first purchased the car. it is a piece of junk and it is an extreme hazard to drive on the highway.

When you push on the gas the car does not go for a few seconds then when it goes it lunges forward. this makes it very hard to make a left turn in front of traffic, you do not know if the car is going to move at first or not. and when you are in stop and go traffic and go to move up just a little bit the car does not go then when it does you almost hit the car in front of you. my understanding is this is the cvt vavle body. my car is giving error code p1722 per the dealer. the paperwork they gave me says estem spd. sig. *tr

First incident: while turning into a parking lot car shut off all warning lights on dash lit up. since no power to car i was not able to turn or use my brakes effectively. i was stopped in the oncoming traffic lane. i was able to use my four way lights. car had to be towed as we were unable to restart the car. second incident: while driving on a city street at 35 miles an hour once again car turned off and i was unable to use gas or brakes related to no power. i barely was able to get about halfway into the turn lane to get out of traffic. almost causing an accident. this te i was able to wait a few minutes and after a few unsuccessful attempts to start my car it finally began running again. *tr

I continue to have episodic loss of power with my 03 murano. all instances occur after driving at interstate speed for more than 30 minutes at a rate of between 65 -80 mph during times of high heat (100 degrees+). the first incident occurred in june 2010 while driving from phoenix to flagstaff. going up a long incline, i noticed that my speed was declining (i was using cruise control). pushing on the accelerator - no response. the car continued to decelerate on it's own as i struggled to both change lines to get to the nonexistent shoulder of the road and avoid getting hit by the semitrucks. turned off the car for 30 minutes and waited. turned it back on and the car ran. i have since not used cruise control. they could find nothing wrong; car did same thing immediately after, drove it back to the shop - they could not replicate it! june 2011 - driving from la to phoenix, 105 degrees and 2 hours in to the trip, the car does the same thing. pulled off the road, waited. tried again; could go 10 miles before the car began losing power. towed to a dealer - who could not reproduce the incident. april 2012 - driving from tucson to phoenix; 105 degrees and 72 miles into the trip. loss of power on the interstate; 1 hr of waiting, and power returns, but i did not trust this car to get me home (nor did i want to be stalled in the middle of an az desert waiting for a tow truck.) towed to a different nissan dealer. i have had this car in and had many things done and replaced - the cam sensor, transmission fluid, etc. no one can figure this out and more frustrating is that not one mechanic can replicate this loss of power/lack of response to the accelerator.

The murano seat frames are known to have a weak spot where the weld will break -causing your drivers seat to rock back and forth - or lean badly to one side. this cause sometime an unintentional sudden move which cause changing the steering wheel direction. that might cause an accident in some cases. another major problem. is the car get into sudden power loss after a while of driving after making a full stop. for example on traffic light or stop sign. it will take very very slow taking off and then will get the power back after few seconds. this delay may cause an accident in example of making left turn on a traffic intersection. you will not have any power to move the car for about 2-4 seconds . thanks

I was driving on the highway at 50mph and all of a sudden murano lost acceleration, gas pedal wasn't working at all. some how i pulled over and turn ignition off and back on and it worked fine. now when is a stop and go situation it does the same thing won't accelerate until like 5 seconds later and in a very dangerous way. i heard lots of people having the same problems and it's life treatning situation.

When the car first started acting up i was on the interstate on my way to work. it all of a sudded started stalling. i had to press the driving peddal all the way down and then it would take off with a very hard jolt. this would happen off and on especially if i was in stop and go traffic or came to a stop sign or stop light. the car would stall before taking off. i took it to the delearship and they kept it for three days and said they could find nothing. this is when the transmission was under warranty up to 120,000 miles. they said the car would have to do it while in ther shop or they could do nothing. i just found it so hard to believe that the car showed no signes of doing anything that i described while they had it and drove it for three days. well of course i got the car back and it was still doing the same thing. i took it back to them and they told me that it was the transmission and the repair on it alone was going to cost me 3600.00 all by itself. the car was doing the very same thing when i took it in to them the first time but surprisingly after the warranty was off they all of a sudden found the problem. somebody really needs to look into all of these complaints and get these situations under warranty so that these cars can be fixed properly. its not fair to take the car to the dealership about a problem that could have been fixed under warranty to take it back to them for the exact same thing and they tell you that the repair is no longer under warranty and you now have to pay for it.

Had had this vehicle little less than a month when noticed having accelaration hesitation problem once you slow down or stop to make turns or at traffic lights. never involved in a collision but have had too many close calls especially when trying to make a left turn against on-coming traffic or with a car behind me; car just wont go and when it does, it is fast enough to knock your head off. took it back to nissan dealerships multiple times over the next couple of years without a resolution; they say they cant find anything wrong. did everything they asked including using a high grade gas consistently and still having problems to this day when the vehicle is no longer under warranty.

I own an '03 nissan murano. since 114k miles, i have experienced stalling following idle. the problem usually occurs when the vehicle is very warm (not overheating). after sitting idle for a few minutes (i.e. at a redlight or stop and go traffic) when i press the accelerator, nothing happens for a few seconds. the rpm's do not indicate any change. and then all of a sudden, the vehicle realizes i am pressing the accelerator and takes off at excessive speed/rpms. the problem has put me in very dangerous situations such as when i am trying to make a left hand turn across traffic and suddenly stalls. or like the first time i experienced the failure, i was trying to pull onto a major highway. by the time my vehicle decided to go, another vehicle was approaching in the lane i was trying to turn onto and i had to slam on my brakes to avoid pulling out in front of the oncoming vehicle and causing a wreck. several vehicles were behind me waiting to get onto the same highway and were very aggrivated i was holding up traffic since my vehicle was stalling. the problems occurs as regularly as i sit idle in traffic or get into a congested traffic area. every single time. after reading hundreds of early year murano owners are having the same problem, i feel nissan should recognize this as a defect and take responsibility for this costly danger. i have read that many have had to replace the entire cvt transmission and that nissan is often misdiagnosing the problem. a code reader indicated my tps sensor was bad. i changed it with barely any noticeable changes. later a dealer's code reader said i should replace the cadallidic converter. after that pricey repair, i still have the same problem. extremely dangerous.

2003 nissan murano (2 wd) hesitates with no response to the throttle at low speed. for example, when accelerating from a stop sign or in traffic. after about 3 or 4 seconds, the car lurches violently forward. problem has been consistent for the past year. causes difficult and unsafe driving condition in good or bad weather (wheels will spin violently when there is snow on the road as the car finally responds to the throttle input after 3 or 4 seconds). finally had enough after driving in bumper to bumper traffic in nyc yesterday and almost rear-ending the truck in front of me several times! *tr

After driving the car for about 30 min or so every time i step on the accelerator pedal the car is delayed in moving. in addition every time i drive the car i lose power. the check engine light comes on and the car slows to a crawl and stops. i will then have to coast the car off to the side of the road. wait a few min and then restart. this is very scary every time i try to make left hand turns. other times i am driving it just will not move for a long 5 to 8 sec delay. cars coming at me in at any speed have almost hit me. there were no warnings prior the stalling. this happens every single time i drive the car. i read there was a nhtsa recall# 03v455000. the throttle body 3 times, transmission 2 times. motor mounts and a host of other parts. let's see oh yeah the tcm twice. valve body replaced. miles at 105,000. i have spent over $900.00 plus. the dealership i bought it from won't take it back. at this point i just want out of this car. could anyone help me? *tr

During acceleration the vehicle will stall and the motor will rev to around 3 to 4000 rpm. then instantly grab and jump down the road. it does this every few weeks for a extended amount of time... recently took a 100 mile trip, half way through the trip the problem started and continued for the remainder of the trip. on the way back the same day it no longer had the problem. *tr

Intermittent acceleration delay of 3-5 seconds from a stop. once the accelerator is depressed and nothing happens after the delay comes a surge of speed. no codes are thrown and dealer cannot recreate problem. serious safety hazard, especially when turning left or at an intersection! this has happened intermittently since i got the car at 30000 miles. i can turn off the car and it sometimes resets the problem. consumer bulletin boards report this to be a tps failure that can be found in all years of the murano production. *jb

2003 nissan murano, at 2500 miles transmission seems to skip or disengage for a second at highway speeds. dealer could not reproduce problem. at 12000 miles vehicle started to act up and same thing happen, this time vehicle seemed like it was in neutral gear. vehicle recalled for alternator replacement, same week and i informed the dealer of the issue, they seemed not too concerned. at 35000 miles when driving in reverse, transmission clink noise. at 58000 took vehicle to dealer with a complaint that the transmission is acting up. dealer installed a gas tank shied, and did not care to investigate the transmission issue and said all are ok. 64000 miles, after stopping at a traffic light, vehicle will not move forward, acceleration pedal pushed all the way. vehicle will then suddenly pickup speed and lung forward. vehicle rpm will kick up and down while driving at steady and cruising speeds giving the vehicle a feeling of sudden acceleration and deceleration. situation is getting worse and no help from dealer since he recently went out of business. *nm

To date, we have had numerous problems with our 2003 murano. we have replaced the throttle body, motor mount, battery, tcm and transmission. on july 21, 2006 our murano made a loud noise then quit moving. we had it towed to the dealership where they stated it needed a new tcm. that did not fix the problem so they said we needed a new transmission. we had 64,000 miles. since then we had the car for one day and took it back for yet a new problem with the rear axle. *nm

After driving in stop and go traffic (engine compartment very hot) car does not respond to throttle input. this is an intermittently problem. when you depress the gas pedal the engine does not respond or is very delayed, and then a couple of seconds later it tries to catch up and the engine surges to high rpm. this is very dangerous when pulling out in front of traffic due to the lack of throttle response. it is also very dangerous if there's a person or object in front of the vehicle and it surges and takes off very fast. i took it to the dealer while it was acting up and there weren't any codes in the ecu, but the mechanic put it on a meter and read the voltages of the pedal vs. throttle body and determined the throttle body was not responding correctly and it was the faulty component. he also admitted that they've had a lot of similar problems with those throttle bodies but there hasn't been a recall on the part. this is a very dangerous problem and needs to be addressed. *nm

On 4 different occasions my car has started to accelerate when i am sitting at a stoplight with my foot on the brake. (this has happened over the 3 years that i have owned the car with several months lapsing between incidents) each time when i felt it begin to surge, i put it in neutral while holding the brake pedal down tightly, waiting for the engine racing to stop. i was then able to put the car in drive and it worked normally. the dealer found no codes recorded when i brought the car in, so nothing could be done. in january of '06 i was dropping mail from my car into a mail drop. my car revved up between 4000 and 6000 rpm's. i had my foot on the brake and tried putting it into neutral with no effect on stopping the acceleration. i put the car in park & shut it off. when i restarted it, it was still racing. i had to shut the car down 5 times before the car drove normally. i drove it 2 blocks to my home and had it towed to the dealer. on jan. 4,2006 the throttle position sensor, chamber as., gasket thr. were changed. they performed an upper engine decarb. procedure, cleaned the throttle body, and installed fuel additive. on jan. 20, 2006 i brought my car back to the dealer because the car started accelerating as i was pushing down on the brake. dealer found no codes registered on the car's computers, nor could they replicate the problem when they drove the car.

When ever the car is in stop and go traffic it begins to hesitate when the gas pedal is depressed and then lurches forward. the effect is like a rubber band stretching and then releasing quickly. numerous close calls have occurred based on other vehicles assuming that we are allowing them to enter the road ahead of us only to see the car lurch and the brakes applied heavily.after each of these occurences speed control begins to surge and decline when engaged. four visits january 14 2004 service department cannot duplicate problem. may, 26,2004 dealer found mass air flow sensor could be problem june 3,2004 dealer replaced mass air flow sensor. june 4 2004 returned to service department for same problem dealer service cannot replicate. sept 14004 same problem dealer claims drove car 160 miles not in stop and go fopr more than a short period and cannot replicate problem. *ak
