Defect SummaryNissan is recalling 362,891 my 2003-2007 murano vehicles. the intake air ducts, which are connected to the intermediate resonator in the air intake system of the engine, may separate from the resonator with engine movement. this separation occurs due to the premature aging of the material used in the intake air ducts which causes excessive shrinking.
Consequence SummaryEngine may stall increasing the risk of a crash.

All of my locks no longer work. i have seen countless complaints about this very issue and nothing is getting done about it. i thought nissan was suppose to be one of the best out there. i'll never buy another nissan again if they continue not to assist their customers. i also have the air intake issue, thankfully that was recalled and will be fixed. i had to replace the front struts, oil cooler gasket, front sway bar links and the battery has been changed 3 times now. very disappointed with nissan and so embarrassed to even talk about the issues with this car. :( *tr

I was going around the vehicle in front of me and i heard a lock snapping sound. i was informed it was the transfter case. luckily i was only travelling 5 mph when the transfer case broke.

Our car is starting the surging thing and acts like it is going to turn off then zooms off. i never realized the cvt cause so many people issues. the cowards at nissan not stepping forward are going to realize real quick they should have been loyal to their customers! i along with a lot of other folks will not be going back to nissan!

Coolant was leaking on driveway, found that the tensioner bracket is cracked and is rubbing up against a coolant hose, causing a breach in hose and leakage. the dealership is quoting me over $500 to replace the tensioner bracket and associated pulley and screw. i called nissan corporate asking them to either fix for free or discount the service. they said its not their responsibility. i see alot of this exact component failure reported online, i hope nissan ponies up someday.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan murano. since april of 2009, the vehicle has been losing power while driving 55 mph. the speed has decreased to 5 mph on three occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer three times, but they could not diagnose the failure with the computer system/engine. the contact is concerned that a crash could occur. the failure mileage was 38,000.

Lifter link assembly broke on my 2005 nissan murano. took the car in for servicing and when i picked it up the seat was broken. the dealership fixed it because it was covered under my extended warranty. still had to pay the $50.00 deductible, because there was no recall. i understand that i am not the only one who has experienced this problem. *tr

Since lease of vehicle in july 2005, many problems. most recent is lack of acceleration at random times. vehicle was fixed and in less that a week of it returned to me, problem happened again. i do not have any warning that the car will cease to accelerate. it is not a safe vehicle to drive, especially with my children or others children in the car. i am afraid for my children's lives as well as my own when i am driving this vehicle. the vehicle required a new engine when it was slightly more than a year old, it has had many other things wrong with it, however this is the most serious and possibly deadly. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan murano. while driving 25 mph, the engine misfired and the vehicle shut off. the dealer inspected the vehicle five times and stated that the failure was caused by the sensor, throttle intake hose, motor mounts, and the air filter. the components were replaced, however, the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 6,378 and current mileage was 22,000.

2005 nissan murano - 66k miles. alternator tension arm snapped off while driving, also causing a crack in the timing cover. there had been a squeaking noise in the days leading up the failure. once the arm broke there was a very loud clunking noise. i was forced to pull over on the side of the road and wait for a tow. the tension arm, bracket, belts and timing cover need to be replaced. because the timing covers placement, it will require pulling the engine out. *tr

My 2005 nissan murano has an engine that pings even when using 91 octane fuel. this can lead to engine wear and damage. nissan is aware of the problem, but at this time, they are choosing not to correct it in any of the murano vehicles that have this problem. the problem is a constant ping upon acceleration, most noticeable between 10 and 30 miles per hour, or at higher speeds when attempting to quickly increase speed. *tr

The air bag indicator light is flashing in the dash again. i had this problem fixed once before while still under warranty at the north little rock dealership. on leaving the garage within just a mile, i made a left turn and heard a crunching noise in the steering column and it came back on. i went strait back and they said they would fix it but the (second replacement part) wouldn't be in till the next day so i was given a loaner for one day. now it's back on again. also noted shortly after the warranty expired that the lumbar support on the drivers side no longer inflates/deflates and hasn't worked since. i have had all recalls fixed and had to replace the battery at 37,000 miles at my cost. also had to have the dealership resurface both front rotors and replace a rear caliper under warranty that had locked up 1 & 1/2 years ago. i see that the front rotors are in need of resurfacing again even though the break pads have 1/2 of there wear left to go. due to the highly chromed /curved dipstick, getting an accurate oil level reading is not possible at any time, so the dipstick has only been removed three time since purchasing it as it is a pointless endeavor. i own six autos that range in age from 1972 threw this 2005 murano and of all of them, the murano is the least trusted one. i will never own another nissan. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan murano. the first time it the engine failed was on my way home from work. i started the car and it shuttered a little, then stopped. i restarted the car after waiting a few seconds and it kept running just fine. on my way home, i stopped off at a local store to run an errand. when i attempted to start my car again, it shuttered and shook, then shut off. i attempted a second time to start the car, but it wouldn't turn over. the car was towed to browns nissan of arlington in virginia, where we bought the vehicle 2 years ago. they could not get the car started either, proceeded to push the car into the garage, and then miraculously, it started up as if nothing was wrong! this morning, my husband went to start the car for me because it was cold and the engine failed again. we plan to call the dealership, as they have promised to incur any towing costs in order to get the car into the shop. regardless, we are taking it back, even if we can get it to start. *tr

While on a major road with for our family vacation, our murano experienced a component failure. specifically, our road trip originated from central new jersey with several destinations scheduled for several central and southern florida locations. all was normal until our journey from miami to debary, fl where slight indicators of a malfunction began to manifest itself. while cruising on interstate 95 between west palm beach and titusville, the cruise control spontaneously disengaged. after several attempts to re-engage the system yielded the same results, i initially determined that there may be an inherent difference in the murano's cruise control system versus other cars i've driven/owned and decided that i would look into it at a later time. later in this same trip (specifically between titusville and sanford florida), i was on a desolate road (route 46) when the murano's 'service engine' light illuminated and it seem to be stuck in 2nd gear. note: the murano has a belt driven cvt and not a conventional gear box; nevertheless, this was the manner in which the problem can be characterized. making matters worst was the fact that it was 12:30am and route 46 is sparsely traveled, with no signs of civilization. (not meant to melodramatic.) fortunately, i was still able to drive the murano (at no greater than 40mph @ 4,000rpm) to our intended destination. on the following morning, i brought my murano to deland nissan where the service department promptly determined that the throttle body malfunctioned and needed to be replaced accordingly. fortunately, the part was in stock and replaced under warranty in less than 2 hours. (note: the service department at deland nissan was simply the best service department i've ever encountered, in terms of response time, professionalism and customer communication; i wish my home dealer service department was likewise.) the remainder of our vacation and return trip occurred without further incident. *nm

The current description has to do with mechanical defects: i leased a brand new 2005 nissan murano in april 2005, and in august of that year the car had major mechanical malfunctions that included: abs light came on , internal failure of abs actuator, and right front abs sensor, engine probelms with loss of power, and acceleration . nono current through pin connectors. had to replace ecm. engine light came on , internal failure to throttle body, all wheel drive light came on. they replaced the alternator, i also had internal failure of a/c amplifier. my car was in the shop from 8/5/05 - 9/13/05 a total of 39 days! i called nissan about complying with the lemon law and to now they have declined to cooperate. i am currently seeking legal representation in this matter.*ak

2005 nissan murano with 56,735 miles began making a noise at acceleration. brought car to the nissan dealer and was told that a new pulley asm and bracket-id was needed. i was told that the bracket failed causing the pulley asm to go bad. while replacing the pulley and bracket, i requested the fan belt be changed. i was very surprised that the bracket and pulley failed so soon on this vehicle. this was not covered under warranty or recall. *tr

Our 2005 nissan murano which was under one year warranty at the time of engine problem started the failure by emitting unusual smoke from the muffler and unexplained sudden shaking of the engine when engine is on while the car standing. we drove our nissan murano to the dealer workshop next day. at arrival of the workshop the service mechanic brought his computerized handheld investigator and connected to the engine electrical system which is located just under the steering and started the engine. suddenly there was a huge pile of thick black smoke rising from the both muffler outlets. from that point our nissan murano was admitted for investigation ( since end of august 2006 ). the dealer refused to recognize warranty period and insisted that any repair to be made at our expense. after all possible effort to convince the nissan dealer here in dubai to stick with the warranty period, finally we had no choice but to go repair of our nissan murano at our own expense. i include here the estimated costs and details of parts that needed to replaced. our nissan murano is still in the dealer workshop and no news from them yet. *jb
