Passenger door does not lock or unlock from the outside. rear hatch door does not unlock and will not open. i checked online and there are hundreds of complaints about nissan murano lock actuators posing problems and not working. nissan dealerships charge approximately $500 to fix each actuator, which seems extremely unfair considering it appears to be such a common defect. this is not only an unnecessary and preventable problem, but can be an extremely safety hazard. *tr

The locks on the doors will sporadically lock or unlock and i am afraid my child may get locked in the car one day if keys are left in passenger seat when walking around vehicle to get child. this poses a serious threat to children or anyone in an unsure environment. *tr

Nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. it's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. the drive thinks the door is locked, when in reality it's an open door for carjacking or robbery. this failure is an intermittent of operation. sometimes the doors lock ok, other times they don't. in addition, sometimes the doors unlock ok, other times they don't. 3. in emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. since 99% of the time we all use the button to lock and unlock doors, using the manual locking lever is unfamiliar. and the murano's design is such that it's not easy to comprehend if it's not your car, for instance a rental car. i can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency when they virtually have no experience with it. in emergencies every second counts. the locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. some people who cannot afford the $1600 to have all the solenoids replaced (as quoted by dealers) will forgo getting them fixed, putting their family members at risk with the above mishap examples. this shouldn't be, nissan should recall them. it's only a matter of time till someone gets robbed, hurt or killed from a malfunctioning door lock, disabling the security which the driver thinks he has when he locks the car. it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. *tr

First the passenger side electric door locks were failing to lock or unlock, within weeks both rear locks started failing! this is a very major safety concern for my wife and daughter. plus in the drive the other night it didn't lock and someone got in and vandalized the interior and took personal items. *tr

Electronic door lock on the driver side would sporadically unlock or lock door...now is all the time and must be locked manually. this is a safety hazard when trying enter the vehicle in an un secure environment or can result in stolen merchandise or parts left in the vehicle. driver side sun visor also well not stay in upright position and drops suddenly blocking the view of the driver. *tr

I have had intermittent problems opening the front driver side door with the keyless remote for 2 1/2 years and recently it has become a problem 99% of the time. about a month ago i discovered one of my rear doors was unlocked when it should not have been. yesterday when a passenger tried to get in the back door on the opposite side it would not unlock even when using the interior button. i'm sure it's only a matter of time before the only properly functioning door stops working and the gas cap will no longer open. how do you open the gas cap with a faulty locking mechanism?? is there a way to open it manually?? there is also a question of safety if doors cannot be locked and unlocked with the interior lock button....risk of car jacking, theft. emergency personnel could not gain quick access in the event of an accident or fire or submersion when every second counts, especially involving infants and small children in car seats (or elderly) who can't or don't know how to manually unlock the door. lives are at risk! the cost to repair one door is astronomical let alone having to repair three or all four. this is a widespread nissan defect that they refuse to acknowledge and repair. i have always been a big nissan fan and this is the third nissan i have owned. i will not buy another one if they don't step up and fix this problem. we owners of these vehicles are reminded daily of the safety issues every single time we enter and exit our cars and have to manually check each door to make sure they are all locked. a recall needs to be issued. this is a safety concern. *tr

Driver side door actuator failed and repair parts ordered 8/10/11. it had failed on numerous occasions and completely in august, 2011, and it becomes a safety issue as it prevents access from the drivers side. access has to be made from the passenger side or from the rear door. it costs $431 to repair.

My 2005 nissan murano locks to all four doors, trunk and gas tank malfunction frequently. i have been stranded with no gas because i have been unable to unlock the gas tank for a period of time. there is no key opening for the gas tank, hatch in the back or 3 passenger doors-only the driver's side door. i have already had the actuators replaced once on both sides of the car a couple of years ago and now they are broken again. this is a saftey concern because we can not be sure the doors are locked, can not obtain gas, can not access the trunk area, or unlock passenger doors on frequent basis. sometimes, they work and sometimes they don't. the cost to replace the actuators is around $1600. that is a significant amount of money to burden the owner of the vehicle when clearly there is a defect in the car. there are so many murano owners with the same problem. nissan needs to recall and replace the actuators for the lifetime of the car. this is a significant saftey issue!

I have a 2005 nissan murano. the door actuator has failed on numerous occassions. the front driver side fails intermittently as well as the rear door latch. the passenger side door will not open at all. truly this is a safety issue and should be corrected by nissan. currently, i have seen nor heard of any recall.

Vehicle locking mechanisms do not function properly. i purchased my murano brand new and even then it had a problem with the gas tank cover operation. it would work backwards: when you lock the vehicle it would open and vice versa. then the back locks stopped functioning in conjunction with the key fob and the driver's control. later it became an intermittent problem. now both of the rear door locks can only be controlled manually. the passenger door has started to do the same. i've also been locked out of my trunk. i bought groceries and was unable to open the trunk from the outside and there is no control on the inside to open it either. in order to use the doors and their locks access has to be gained from other doors. if the trunk locks itself it becomes useless as i cannot access it. this is a safety issue in that i need to be able to open and close my trunk if needed. when the problem initially occurred i was unaware as there are no indications. i didn't know until my young son who rides in the back seat could not open the door when i unlocked it. i have had personal items stolen from my vehicle that i assumed was locked using the key fob. strangers can access vehicles and owners will be unaware. this is a scary thought.

2005 nissan murano has faulty electronic locks. viewed as a safety issue as it prevents the ability to get in and/or out in a quick and efficient manner should there be an emergency. the door will not unlock/lock using the electronic devices or buttons and in order to unlock the door you have to open another door and reach over and manually unlock. i have significant concerns related to my and my family's safety in the vehicle. after research it appears that this problem is common and nissan is not taking any responsibility to replace or repair causing significant (up to $1600) finacial cost to the owner.

All the door locks on my '05 nissan murano don't work properly. the passenger doors have to be locked manually. the lift gate lock works intermittently. this has been going on for over a year.

2005 nissan murano. front driver side door will not lock or unlock with keyless entry, outside electronic door button, or most importantly, the manual lock inside the car. only way to lock door is with key. so to lock door once in car, must open window, awkwardly insert key into outside door keyhole while inside car, and then twist key. in case of accident or emergency, cannot unlock the front door driver side without using key from the inside, which may be impossible depending on conditions of emergency or accident. according to many hundreds of complaints on internet, dealers want from $500 to $600 to repair even to fix the manual locking process for the door. this amount is prohibitive form many people for what should be a simple fix of less than a hundred dollars for at least the manual locking process. the electronic locking system is a luxury item, but the manual locking system is being held hostage by the dealers and in my opinion, presents a huge safety problem.
06/01/200850010
Drivers side door actuator has failed on 2005 murano. you never know whether the door has actually locked or not when locking the vehicle using the remote or exterior electrical door button upon leaving it. if inside the vehicle, and doors are locked using the electrial button on the driver side door, drivers side door may or may not lock. this is a serious safety problem if there is a threat from a person outside the vehicle. it is also leaves the vehicle vulnerable to theft while away from the vehicle. dealer would not cover under warranty or extended warranty, wants excessive charge to repair.

Lock on driver side door failed and does not lock or unlock properly. makes this unsafe at night as i work a night job and if the car did not lock properly could be safety issue, also getting into the car as the murano is designed to be keyless, in a hurry to take the key off the key fob is time consuming and in a panic unsage. locks just stopped working after had been working fine. i feel this is a safety issue and nissan should repair free of charge, as many other people have had same issue, i have never heard of so many of same complaints from other car makers.

Three of the door actuators that control the automatic locks on my 2005 nissan murano are not working. one of them has been broken for a year, the other two just went. this is a safety issue, and judging from how many other people have this problem with the same car, nissan should provide replacements for these. if i do it myself it will cost well over $1,000, and there's no telling when the other two locks will go. right now, the two door locks that are broken have to be opened from inside manually. the back tailgate cannot open at all, as the actuator is the only way i know of being able to unlock it.

I am having the problem on my 05 nissan murano, the passenger front door does not lock or unlock with the remote. this is big safety issue. yesterday my gas door failed on me ones.

About 8 months ago i started experiencing door lock problems. first the front passenger door worked intermittently. now the driver door and rear gate work about 5% of the time, if that. i believe this is a safety issue. when i first contacted the dealer they indicated that it was not covered by the warranty and that i may need the actuators replaced for each affected door. needless to say, the work estimate was unacceptable to me (car had already exceeded 75,000 miles).

Just randomly, nothing occurred to cause this issue, my locks began acting up on my 2005 nissan murano. it randomly will not lock or unlock my doors. this is a huge issue for me being that i thought i was not going to be able to get my 3 month old baby out of my car. i had to go to the other side of my car and crawl through. luckily those were unlocked. but what it they had not, i would have had a small baby stuck in the 100+ degreee car.

Since spring 2009, our 2005 nissan murano passenger door lock has been failing to open when using either the remote key fob or the driver door lock. also rear hatch has been similarly failing to unlock/lock. situation has progressed from 20-30% of the time to 90% of the time failing to function.

Door locks on my 2005 nissan murano quit working through key fob, drivers side and passenger side doors. only way to unlock is to put key into driver side door and then manually unlock all others, to include rear hatch. started with front passenger door and then made its way around the car one door at a time. took car to nissan dealership and they told me it would cost hundreds of dollars just to diagnose the problem so i didn't pursue. wanting nissan to fix because apparently this is a common occurrence. thank you for your time. *tr

05 nissan murano sl driver door and passenger door and rear hatch locks not working with remote or key. this is unsafe !!!!!! and is becoming ever prevelant with many murano owners. please insist nissan recall these issues as these problems are too indetical with individuals across the country for nissan to not know the problem.

I have a 2005 nissan murano and the door locks do not properly lock and unlock on the car utilizing the cars key fab. it does not lock and unlock therefore it is difficult to get in and out of the car.

Approximately may/june of 2009, i was unable to lock and unlock driver's door of my 2005 nissan murano with key fob. when i asked if this could be repaired by landers nissan, southaven, ms, i was told cost of $70 just to look at problem. in may of 2010, i noticed that the problem now includes front passenger door and rear hatch lock. the problem now occurs approximately 80% of time with passenger and hatch; 100% of time with driver's door. i have to place key in lock to lock and unlock driver's door. (no damage or accident to vehicle since purchased new in april 2005)

Three door locks do not work properly on 2005 nissan murano
05/30/200961000
All 5 of the door locks on my 2005 nissan murano have failed within the last year. i replaced the driver's door lock acuator assembly when the lock would not lock or unlock with the key fob or button on the door. since then all of the other door locks, including the lift gate, have experienced the same problem. this is a safety issue. in the event of an emergency, such as a fire, i would not be able to unlock all the doors so passengers could escape. if i were being stalked, i would not be able to lock all the doors quickly. the door lock problem that i have described is being experienced by 2004 - 2010 nissan murano and maxima owners around the country. nissan needs to recall these vehicles and fix them!

Problem with door locks on 05 nissan murano occasionally working, occasionally not. this is completely unsafe and apparently a common problem in nissan vehicles. having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. when locking the doors it's imperative nobody can gain access at will by walking up to the car. if anyone can simply open the door to gain access, carjacking, injury, or even murder is easier. if the doors locked properly this provides a more secure environment for this type of scenario. 2. nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. it's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. the drive thinks the door is locked, when in reality it's an open door for carjacking or robbery.

I have a 2005 nissan murano and the drivers side door lock actataor will not unlock the door.
05/09/201088000
2005 nissan murano: four of six lock actuators are failing simultaneously - the passenger front door, both rear doors and the rear cargo hatch. failure were intermittent until 5/9/10 when all failed completely at the same time. you can press the lock/unlock switch and the doors will audibly appear to lock. however, they may or may not have presenting a security hazard - car jacking, stolen property, etc. nissan has told many of us owners the problem can be fixed by replaceing all the actuators at a cost of $1,600+. i find this unacceptable. there are just too many stories of this same failure in muranos and other nissan models that it is simply normal wear and tear.
05/01/201067230
My 2005 nissan murano had the front passenger door lock actuator stopped working in 2008. today, may 1, 2010 the back passenger side door lock actuator stopped working. i find this to be a serious problem that the door does not lock and/or unlock unless you manually do it. i have children and to get the baby out of the car seat i have to reach back onlock the door manually and then go around the car to take him out. the dealershi informed it would be $389 per door. i tried calling nissan headquarters what a joke....i've been told they never heard of this problem.

Our driver and left rear passenger door actuator randomly does not work. it will not unlock with the intelligent key, nor the key fob, nor if we push the unlock button - we have to manually unlock it at times. we believe this to be a safety issue and are requesting a recall to fix this problem. *tr

2005 nissan murano - mechanisms controlling the doors do not function properly. i cannot even open the door manually, it does not work. the trunk is also broken, i cannot open this either. this is definitely a safety issue. if i have a flat tire, i cannot get to the spare tire because i cannot open the trunk. my brother has the same car and model/year, his car locks has the same problem. my coworker has a 2004 and her locks does not work either. i was informed by my mechanic that nissan knows about this but will not address the issue. often times, the door failures happen after the warranty expires; therefore the owners have to pay out of pocket for the expenses. *tr

The 2005 nissan murano we own was purchased used. since we have had it (almost a year) there have been electrical problems that have mainly affected the door locks. it has come to our attention that these problems have affected many other nissan murano owners. because of this issue, we cannot use the unlock the doors using the remote and further, the doors do not unlock using the unlock switch inside the vehicle. one of the main safety concerns is that of late i have not been able to open the driver door on a regular basis because the lock has malfunctioned and have had to exit the vehicle from other doors. i have fibromyalgia and the extra exertion to try to leave the car is both unwanted and painful. in case of an accident or some other event where the driver's door would be the only choice of escape it is extremely possible that i would be locked in the car and unable to get out because of the locks. the dealership has continually refused to accept responsibility for the electrical problem even though they acknowledge that it occurs in many of the murano model cars and want to charge well over $1000 to fix the door locks. we are still trying to find a more affordable and reasonable solution to the problem but have been unsuccessful thus far. i am often unwilling to drive the car out of fear for my safety and will sometimes drive my husband's car instead, inconveniencing him.

I have a nissan murano 2005. three of my doors have been diagnosed by a nissan service center to have broken actuators. these doors don't lock by any means other then manually pushing the lock to the close position. i have opened a file with nissan but they have stated they will not provide any assistance. i find this to be a safety hazard. i can understand one going bad but three means there is a deeper issue. please let me know what else i can do? thanks. *tr

 1. passenger door lock locks and/or unlocks intermittently via the key fob or the door switch. problem continues to happen more regularly, and leads to the front passenger door being unlocked when thinking it is locked. 2. having a secure environment is paramount & locking the doors it's imperative so nobody can gain access at will by walking up to the car. if anyone can simply open the door to gain access, carjacking, injury, or even murder is easier. if the doors locked properly this provides a more secure environment for this type of scenario. remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. the drive thinks the door is locked, when in reality it's an open door for carjacking or robbery. this failure is an intermittent of operation. sometimes the doors lock ok, other times they don't. in addition, sometimes the doors unlock ok, other times they don't. in emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. since 99% of the time we all use the button to lock and unlock doors, using the manual locking lever is unfamiliar. and the murano's design is such that it's not easy to comprehend if it's not your car, for instance a rental car. i can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency when they virtually have no experience with it. in emergencies every second counts. the locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. 3. nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not issuing a recall for this safety concern is negligent. it's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. dealerships report a minimum $600 to $1600 to have 1 to all solenoids replaced because of the expense many will forgo getting them fixed. *tr

My wife drives a 2005 nissan murano and recently we have been having problems with the door locks. there are times when they work and other times they don't. i'm concerned that if my wife is in an area of some concern that there is a way to lock all the doors. in an emergency there is no way to know if the doors will unlock when you need them to. since the only door with a key hole is the drivers door, if there should be a situation were my wife and daughter should need to rush in the car, this would be a problem. i took the car in to the shop to get it checked out and they told me that the door actuators needed to be replaced. the gentleman told me that the actuators aren't sold separately but that the hole assembly would need to be purchased at $409.00 each. this appears to be a way to greatly over charge. i think that if there wasn't a defect it would be an isolated issue but when they all start malfunctioning at the same time, there is definitely a problem. after leaving the dealer concerned that this just didn't sound right i started to research on the internet and found this to be happening to several nissan vehicles. if this part is causing difficulties then nissan should make the part simple to replace. i have also researched into the cost of some door actuators on the internet and find them to range around $25.00. since i'm not a mechanic i don't know if the part can be purchased outside of nissan and would still work. thank you *tr

All the actuator motors on our 2005 nissan murano suspiciously went bad at the same time. the car is much easier to gain entry to from a possible third party. in both our neighborhood and neighborhoods we may park the vehicle, there have been many break-ins. if the doors are not easy to lock, a potentially hostile party could gain entry to the vehicle with the driver in it and cause bodily injury if not death. while the door locking mechanism failure is intermittent, inability to have constant reliance on the door locks is dangerous in case of an emergency. the nissan dealership quoted us upwards of $1,600 to fix this hazardous situation and we frankly cannot afford that even though it is a matter of safety. nissan needs to cover this issue because as i have seen, it is not limited to our vehicle, but countless other nissan muranos. *tr

We own a 2005 nissan murano - the driver's door and passenger door on the driver's side will not unlock with the remote or the switch - they require a manual unlock - this seems to be a common problem with these vehicles from my research online - i feel it is a safety issue that nissan should repair at no charge to the consumer. also, the airbag light stays on - we have had this checked, and it continues to be on - this is also another safety issue. our vehicle is in perfect condition otherwise. we have less than 60,000 miles on the car. *tr

The automatic door locks on my 2005 nissan murano have failed. this is a safety issue because i cannot lock nor unlock all my doors with a touch of a button. additionally, the key fob does not work to allow me to unlock drivers door so if threatened i would be unable to get in/ get out of auto quickly. likewise the powerlock does not allow me to lock all doors. also the rear hatch doesn't work reliably due to the problem with the locking mechanism and the auto locks are the only way to open hatch. should auto get a flat there would be no access to the spare. this is not only a convenience issue but a real safety issue- in the instance of a carjacking or to escape to the safety of my car. i cannot even contemplate all the scenarios which make this a safety issue however it clearly is. *tr

I have a 2005 murano; my problem is: my driver's side door lock only works intermittently, and i can't always tell whether the door is locked or not. it sounds like it is locking/unlocking, but it doesn't always seem to be the case. i have gotten two different quotes from nissan dealerships, and both service managers said that it is a common problem. i feel like it is unsafe, and it seems like it is an issue that should fall under the recall policy. thank you. *tr
05/30/20091
I noticed my passenger side door lock would not automatically lock or if i manually locked it would not unlock by pushing the lock button in my 2005 nissan murano probably about three months ago. so now i have to manually lock and unlock that door everytime. about two weeks ago i was going to load groceries in the back of my vehicle and when i hit the security unlock device the back hatch never unlocked. so now i can never open my back hatch because there is no key entry on the trunk. this is a huge safety issue. i took it to my local mechanic and he said it was the locking system in the car and would cost me over $700.00 to fix it. nissan needs to take care of this because it is happening to alot of people and it is only a matter of time before an unsafe situation occurs and is in the media due to not having the ability to lock or unlock your car doors. *tr

I was trapped in my nissan murano during 115 degree day in arizona for 20 minutes. i had to restart the car and drive to a facility where i could be freed from the vehicle. the door lock actuator solenoid only partially activates locking assembly on drivers door and only partially disengages. this creates a situation where you cannot open the door from the outside or inside of the vehicle in an emergency. this partial disengagement also keeps the door handle from opening the door manually. evidentially i am not the only nissan owner who has had the same problem. the internet has numerous documented owners of nissan vehicles with the same exact problem. nissan has failed to address this problem in a timely manner and possible death or serious injury could result in the event of a collision or fire due to the inability of the doors to be opened manually during this partial lock situation. the door handle should always open from the inside and over-ride the lock on the drivers door. *tr
07/12/2009
 1. there were no events that lead upto the failure of the locking mechanism. 2. the failure started automatically. there is a problem in the locking actuator. the lock switch does not lock the door even though the switch is pressed and the locking sound is heard. this makes personal safety a big concern. if the door is unlocked when the locking switch is pressed, it can still be opened from the outside. in environments when personal safety is of strong concern, there should be some sense of feeling secured within the car when the door is locked. someone could be hurt, robbed, carjacked, or even murdered because of a simple locking mechanism failure. this failure is all around with many cars having all 4 door locks fail at once across all nissan car/suv/truck models. the replacement cost for 4 actuators from the nissan dealership is $1600. this is a safety concern and a recall should be made for all nissan muranos. *tr
07/12/2009370001
I have a 2005 nissan murano, purchased in 2005. recently i have been having problems with the right front passenger door and hatchback not locking or unlocking by use of the fob. the right front passenger door does not have a key lock and apparently when this door lock motor is not locking or unlocking, neither is the rear hatch. i believe that this is a safety issue and nhtsa should fource nissan to recall all their vehicles with this problem for replacement w/o cost to the consumer. having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. when locking the doors it is imperative no one should have access to the vehicle. if anyone can simply open the door to bain access, carjacking, injury or even an assault if much easier for the perpertrators. if the doors locked properly this provides a more secure environment and eliminates some of these terrifying scenarios. nissan, knowing there is a security and possibly safety problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling these vehicles for consumer protection and safety, is negligent. their action will open the door to a class action lawsuit should someone be murdered, robbed, raped or assaulted due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the apparent locking sound. remember, in this case there are no obvious indications the door isn't locked, when it reality is an open door with the occupants easy targets. this failure is an intermittent of operation. sometimes the doors lock and other times they don't. in emergencies it is important to be able to unlock doors immediately. during a crisis situation the driver and passengers use the door rocker button to unlock the doors, the locking/unlocking solenoid or actuator malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergencies. nissan's usual quote of $1600.00 to repair and replace all the door lock and actuators is ridiculous, and should be a recall item. *tr
