PE08065NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC.11/18/200807/02/2009DRIVER SEAT ANCHOR FAILURE
This investigation concerns structural failure of the anchor/bracket on the left rear side of the driver's seat.the concern is that such failures may alter the driver's seated position so as to reduce effectiveness of the occupant protection system or potentially compromise vehicle control.failure of the subject anchor bracket results from metal fatigue and causes rearward tilting of the driver's seat.these failures usually occur during driver ingress but may also occur while the vehicle is being operated.the safety related concerns during actual vehicle use were not validated by this investigation.while the number of complaints of this problem is relatively high, only three very minor, undocumented injuries were reported.the reported injuries occurred during driver ingress, not while the vehicle was in motion.investigation disclosed that the apparent risk of compromise to vehicle control has not been demonstrated.investigation also disclosed that the apparent risk of collapse of the driver's seat back has not been demonstrateda safety related defect trend was not identified and this investigation has been closed.

While i was driving, i heard a loud pop and the drivers seat shifted. the link lifter for the seat no longer functions correctly. the seat is lopsided unless all the way down to the floor, and will not raise uniformly any more. if the seat is raised up, it leans into the back right corner, no longer level with the floor of the vehicle. internet research has shown that this is a known issue, and there has been a technical service bulletin released on it. *tr

2005 nissan murano sl with only 58,000 miles on it has the seat defect where it is stuck and won't move forward and back. it appears that the bracket system attachment to the floor has become broken. this is a dangerous manufacture defect that can cause accidents and the car to be unable to drive. the repair for this is quoted at $1,500. nissan should recall these and fix them on their own cost, not the consumer. *tr

Seat is loose and got stuck when trying to auto move back and forward as part of the startup process. i've read up on the complaints here and on the nissan owners forum and this is a known defect. if the seat tack and bracket breaks from an obvious manufacture defect this can cause a deadly crash. does it take a person to die before nissan will issue a recall? please force nissan to fix this. *tr

While driving/turning/stopping/entering/exiting vehicle the left rear side of the drivers seat dips down drastically. have read numerous complaints that nhtsa and nissan are aware that these seats are a problem, i think nissan should step up and take responsibilty for the quality of the product and fix these seats before someone is injured due to the deffect. thankful i noticed mine while parked and not moving when the sudden movement of the seat could cause me to not have control over the vehicle.

While driving down the road the frame on the drivers seat broke causing the seat to fall back and to the left. scared me and thought i was going to wreck but didn't. then very difficult to maneuver the car to get home since you are sitting cocked to the side and back. called nissan and looked online as to recalls and there are none but several complaints were there regarding these seats. this is the 2nd time this has happened the first being earlier this year. nissan said to bring it and pay to have it fixed. we had friend weld it cheaper than them. if the seat is faulty then there is no sense fixing it numerous times and they need to remake this part so it does not keep breaking, think they should recall since it is unsafe. *tr

As i entered the car, and transferred my weight to the seat the left rear area of the seat dropped down suddenly. had this occurred suddenly during driving, the tendency to pull on the steering wheel to balance and regain a normal driving position could create a circumstance where the vehicle would swerve. i was unaware of this defect potential in the vehicle, despite having owned it since new. on looking at the failure point, and reviewing the defect, the seat frame (manufacturers weld point) has failed at precisely the same point that many users have reported on vehicle forums. this appears to be a defect associated with cyclic loading, differentially applied on the left side of the seat due to the entry process. clearly it is a manufacturers defect. nhtsa should seriously consider this for further review...an inspection campaign, modification or recall may be appropriate. *tr

Upon driving the vehicle the seat started to slide toward the passenger side. upon bring it to a mechanic i was told that the plastic wheel in the chair mech was worn out and need to be replaced. called nissan and there answer to me was first if i was over weight and claim that is why it broke. wrong answer i am not over weight to cause that and then i was told that i had to buy the whole new seat and a track that cost is 800 for the part and at that point i told them all i need is a plastic wheel...company told me if i had an extended warranty it would be fix. well i don't have one and truly don't feel like i would of need one for the age and mileage of this vehicle/ it appears that there has been alot of troubles with the 2005 model and they knew it and felt that if people have a warranty to fix things they will be fixed and there is no paper trail of there poor manufacturing of the vehicle. as of today there now telling me that my oil pan and the alot of the parts of the undercarriage of the vehicle is rotted and need to be replaced. i have never had a rotted oil pan, nor has any of my undercarriage of the vehicle rotted, it appears that there parts are not having a protection coat of rustolum on them and yet once again there answer is if i have a warranty it would be covered. *tr

I was driving my 2005 murano and the left side of the driver side seat starting going down and would not come back up. i stopped, looked, and checked the seat. that is when i noticed my seat started rocking back and forth when i pulled on the top of the seat. i had it checked and the seat bracket is broken. i have found out that this is a common problem with muranos due to the faulty bracket in 2003-2007 nissan muranos. why hasn't nissan recalled these brackets? why does it cost $1300 to replace the entire seat when it is just a defective bracket that needs to be replaced? why do i have to pay for this? here is a forum of people having the same problem. click to the last page and you will notice problems as current as 6/08/2012. these are the problems that are being reported. http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/66-problems/1548-drivers-seat-print.html here is the link to pictures that show the problem. http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/66-problems/1548-drivers-seat-11-print.html please help us remedy the situation and make nissan recall this bracket. thank you. *tr

I was driving in my car, and the seat broke and leans back only on the left side, causing an unsafe driving position. while searching for a fix, apparently there are many other complaints in the nissan murano for exactly the same reason. i feel this is a major safety concern as my foot was removed from the pedals and i temporarily lost control of the vehicle until i realized exactly what happened. the current rocking of the seat during acceleration and braking causes the seat (and body) to sway, changing the pressure intended to be placed on the brakes and gas pedal. *tr

Brackets under drivers side seat had snapped, seat is no longer attached properly. major safety issues. apparently a known issue with this vehicle model years 2003-2007 that was later corrected, yet nissan will not produce a recall or cover the costs unless in your warranty period. the new part, is made completely different and is steel, so obviously they know there is an issue but are choosing to do nothing about it. dealer wants to charge over $1000 for this repair. again a major safety issue & in doing research is happening to people all over the world. something should be done. i contacted nissan for a good will repair but it is under investigation, in the meantime, i drive around risking my life. because of the safety concern, no one else seems to want to fix it. previous safety bulletin issued by nissan is ntb05-043d. no recall to date. *tr

While driving, driver's seat began to wobble. the next thing i noticed was that the seat dropped about 3 inches. i inspected the seat and saw that a welded bracket had broken apart.

This is the second time the driver's seat bracket has broken. the first time, we shamed the local nissan dealer to fix it, but this was only temporary as the seat has just broken again. we contacted nissan but they said we are on our own. air bag light is supposedly linked to this issue as well. also contacted nissan about this and escalated all the way to north american hq to no avail. it appears that nissan would rather take their chances on law suits than have their customers safely drive their products. after purchasing at least 10 nissan products over the past 30 years i will never purchase another. forever is a long time.

I was driving in my 2005 nissan murano and just exited off the freeway. while turning on the exit ramp i felt the driver seat feel like it shifted up and away from the rear left. about a mile later there was a loud crack and the left rear corner of the driver's seat dropped down. when i got home i looked under the seat to see what had happened. i appears the bracket that connects the left rear corner of the driver's seat to the floor bracket has broken. i spent some time today searching on the internet and found this is a quite common problem. i even found a technical service bulletin from nissan on how to fix the problem. if it's a known issue that the bracket will eventually fail under fatigue why isn't there a recall or a service announcement?

I own a 2005 nissan murano se. as i was going 60 mph in the fast lane down the highway, the seat snapped ,tilted to the left then lurched backward becoming unstable. i almost loss control of the car and injured my back. i had to pull over to the side of the road and the bar that is in the lower bottom of the seat bracket broke off and the screw that anchors the seat to the floor became unstable. i had to find a way to secure the seat to ride home and lucky me had some patio bricks in the back which are now holding this seat up otherwise it will collapse. i called nissan headquarters and they will not help me and they do not care. the dealer wants $1,800 to fix which i could put down for another car because i will never buy a nissan again. also , the door handles have broke ,the differential and a long list of many things with this car. i take care of my car but this model is a nightmare. they could offer something of a discount but too greedy. i could of loss my life with this car but i am lucky to be an older driver and experienced. the seat has no support and will fall over backward. there should be a solution the bracket that holds the support bar is thinner than a dime and is a manufacturing defect. this could of happened at any time depending on the type of highway you travel no matter the mileage or the age of the vehicle.the driver's seat is a safety issue not like the passenger seat.

While driving at highway speed (55mph), the drivers seat suddently fell backwards. luckily, it was only fell back on the left side. if both sides had broken, my wife might have lost control of the vehicle. looking at the seat, there is a cross bar at the bottom of the seat back that had one side shear off. i've read a nhtsa report (see http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/murano/12811-no-recall-murano-seat.html) that says that while the number of complaints of this problem is relatively high, only three very minor, undocumented injuries were reported. the reported injuries occurred during driver ingress, not while the vehicle was in motion. investigation disclosed that the apparent risk of compromise to vehicle control has not been demonstrated. with the seat broken, i find it hard to believe that an investigator wouldn't find this not being a safety issue because it's very dangerous to drive the vehicle in this condition. if the right side also broke, it may cause the back of the seat to fall backwards and i would expect the driver to lose control. with the number of people posting this complaint online, i'm amazed that this hasn't resulted in a recall. also, since i've read that nissan has redesigned the seat bracket, then this would confirm that there was inferior engineering done previously. otherwise, they wouldn't have fixed it.

The drivers seat lifter link assembly on my 2005 nissan murano broke. this appears to be a factory desgin flaw that is common in many muranos. this is a serious safety issue and nhtsa should consider ordering nissan to fix the problem on these vehicles thru a recall. it appears without government intervention, nissan is not motivated to do anything about the design and is forcing buyers to cover the cost of the repairs and intoduces a serious safety concern.

I proceeded to drive from a traffic light, when my driver's seat collapsed on the left side. i immediately went to my selling dealership to inquire since my vehicle was unsafe at that point. the dealership confirmed that this is a common problem with the nissan muranos, however no recall and costly to repair. on monday 8/8/11, i contact nissan consumer affairs to inquire of this issue and received the worst customer experience of my life. i had no choice but to schedule a diagnostic test which costs 70 dollars for nissan corporate to review the report before assisting further. is nissan waiting for death or serious injury before helping their customers?

Internal mounting bracket supporting the drivers seat has broken while rounding a corner causing my hands to slip of the steering wheel and car did strike the curb. the seat now will flop from side to side. the car is not safe to drive. i can't afford the $700+ repair, that will fail again in the short amount of time. please look into this. it is a common problem on these model cars. nisan has sent out a tsa for this repair. but the problem is conic and expensive. no after marked parts available. nisan parts only and the replacements are failing also.

My 2005 nissan murano with 68k miles only purchased from dealer less than 2 years and has extended warranty has a broken driver's seat. while driving, my left sides of the seat collapsed and now rocks back and fourth while driving, turning, and stopping. i immediately went to the dealership to advise and was told this is a common problem, but is not covered under the warranty and is very costly to repair. i am extremely upset as was driving with my 2 year old son at the time the chair collasped. i would like to know if this is a common problem why is there no recall from nissan?

The back left corner and possibly front left corner of the driver's seat mount/frame broke loose from the track/car which is causing the seat to rock diagonally several inches off of the floorboard.

Going 40 mph, suddenly i heard a crack noise, and drivers seat became unstable, wiggly. before pulling over i needed to make a turn, and that was dangerous- entire left side of the seat elevated during a turn. as it was explained later by nissan dealership my car experienced drivers seat frame assembly failure. which is not considered a safety issue?!?! i would like to see someone safely drive my car, especially doing u turns!! the seat cannot be fixed in the desired position, it moves around like i am operating my car on a kitchen stool.

While turning right while driving my 2005 nissan murano i heard and felt a loud pop underneath my seat. upon investigating i discovered that the back left side of my seat had broken loose from the bracket. the left back of the seat remains disengaged from the seat frame. i went to the nissan dealer today where i purchased the car and was quoted $898.08 for a new seat frame (part # 87450+a) and an additional $153-204 labor for installation. after researching online, i have discovered that this has been an ongoing issue with the murano and that nissan now uses a newly designed part to prevent this from happening. the fact that my seat is not fully attached in my car is very concerning and certainly is a safety issue. i am a bit surprised by the fact that the nissan service department i went to appeared to never have heard of or seen this issue and yet when i went to the parts department, the representative told me that he had quoted for the part 4 times recently. hmmm.

While making a left turn in my 2005 nissan murano, my seat suddenly popped and shifted to the left and dropped a few inches and landed against the door. the frame assembly had broken and i nearly struck a pedestrian. i discovered that the frame assebly of the seat had fractured. going online i noticed that this is a very common problem with the murano and from the looks of it many, many nissan owners have the same problem. i hope someone doesn't have to be killed or seriously injured from this obvious manufacturer's defect before the nhtsa orders a recall.

2205 nissan murano sl awd, the driver seat bracket just broke. it rocks from side to side. it is unsafe if i were to have a accident my seat will fly loose. i want to complain to nissan for not recalling the vehicle seats since they are deficient.

Driver's seat frame suddenly broke at left rear corner - allowing seat to fall back and lean sharply to the left. nissan estimates $1000.00+ to replace, with bracket of same design - all at consumer cost.

While driving in a garage at low speed, my driver side seat suddenly snapped, and tilted down to left. now when i drive, the seat rocks both side to side & front to back, and is very unstable. i worry the other side will snap under the stress of the motion, and my seat will no longer be connected to the car. already i can feel the motion of the seat from my seatbelt, and honestly it is a little hard to steer when my body isnt stable. i realize an investigation was already done into this matter a few years ago which was closed because there was not evidence of harm due to the manufacturing problem. must someone be injured before nissan will take responsibility for this? there are almost 300 complaints registered on this site alone for this problem, and the dealers seem to be making about $1000 for each repair so i doubt they will do anything about it.

While driving down the street, i heard a snap and then my seat tipped backwards and to the left. while driving home, every speed bump i went over made the seat bounce as it is not held down. i called the dealership and told the man who answered the phone that the seat in my car broke as i was driving. he asked me, murano? i said, yes. he said, 2004 or 2005? i said, 2005. he said, that will cost $1,300 to fix. i know what the problem is. it happens all the time on the particular car. i feel like that having your seat break as you are driving down the street is quite hazardous. fortunately, i didn't have an accident, which is probably in part because i was in a residential area and going slow. this is clearly a defective part and should be replaced by nissan. if it wasn't defective, the man at the dealership would not have been able to identify my car without me giving him any personally identifying information about me or my car.
10/02/200992000
The driver's seat made a snap sound and then tilted. when i checked the seat, i found that i can rock it side to side. the bottom of the seat is separated from the seat track. if i raise the seat up using the motor, the tilt becomes more severe. if i lower the seat to the floor, the seat back automatically folds forward, so i am squished in the seat. i am worried that my safety is compromised by having the driver's seat only attached by 1 track & not the 2 tracks as it is intended to be. if i am in an accident, my seat has half the anchoring ability than it was designed to have. the nissan dealer is aware of this complaint but said there has been no recall. i cannot afford the $900 repair, so i am forced to operate my murano with a compromised safety system. due to the 1) amount of similar complaints, 2) failure of a safety-related system, 3) cost of repair (which is causing most claimants to operate the murano in an unsafe manor), and 4) the potential for a lawsuit against nissan if an accident or death occurs, nissan should be forced to issue a recall to correct this potentially dangerous problem.

I own a 2005 nissan murano. the driver seat is rocking and moving while driving the car because the seat bracket that holds the seat to the floor failed. i fixed it in 2008 and paid approx. $ 1,000.00 and again it happened in 2011 the seat is rocking and moving toward the left side which happened while i was driving and almost caused a serious accident by losing control of the car. i called the nissan north amierica severl times and they decline to even admit that there is a defect in the bracket holding the seat. this is a saftey hazard issue which could cause a fatel accident by losing cntrol of the car when the seat snaps away from its track. this problem have been investigated by the us department of saftey and as of today nissan refuse to recall the nissan muranos and try to permenatly fix the problem. the nisaan dealerships recognize the problem because a tsb # 05043 was issued by nissan to all dealerships to alert them and show them how to temporary fix the problem. the cost of the part doubled in two years because of the high demand. this is a saftey hazard issue and a fatal accident is waiting to happen. nissan should address the problem with the seats and fix it without any cost for the consumer. a recall must be issued by nissan before its too late. it is unbelievable that nissan double the price on the part needed to fix the problem and force the consumer to pay for it knowing that this will not fix the seats permanently. the brackets that hold the seats must be re-designed to carry the weight of the driver without snapping and breaking while driving. i urge the us department of transportation to re-investigate the seats in the 2005 murano and not wait until a fatal accident happens. this is a serious issue and it should not be ignored.

The driver seat frame broke under normal use. no unusual stress was placed on the seat to cause it to break. with this in mind, this could be a safety issue while the vehicle is being driven. the back seat frame breaking while being driven could cause an accident if the driver loose control of the vehicle when the seat back breaks; particularly if both sides break at the same time.

Driver's seat. underneath the rear of driver's seat is a metal bracket that snapped, causing seat to rock. brought it to two places and was told it's probably a factory defect. brought back to dealer and also filed a claim with dealer's consumer affairs department and was told there was nothing they could do about it as far as a factory recall or repairing at no cost to me.

Nissan murano 2005 front dirver seat has come loose on one side, is lopsided and rocks back and forth while car is in motion, while turning, braking and when it comes to a stop. even while you are wearing your seat belt you have no safety restraint as your body is projected forward and sideways from your seat while driving. i weigh 170 and my wife, who is the primary driver weighs 125 lbs. during one driving incident,my wife was averting a tree limb on the road and made a quick, but slow turn only to be jostled to the side of the car and hitting her head on the driver window. luckily she was not injured as the turn was minimal. nothing extraordinary happened to lead to the seat break. one day my wife sat in the seat and noticed it felt funny. the seat repair is not under warranty. cost of repair would be upwards of $1200. an amount we cannot afford.

Driver seat support frame poped while on the interstate and leaned forward and to the left. this caused me to almost hit another car beside me. now the seat rock is like a rocking chair and moves with the movement on the car.

The drivers seat frame broke for no apparent reason. the vehicle has never been wrecked.
12/28/201081000
While driving along, i took a slight turn and heard a crack sound. all of a sudden the back left corner of my driver seat fell, upon stopping the vehicle, i found i can now easily rock my driver seat up/down. due to this, i have severe back strain while driving along with great concerns of safety, if i go over a bump will my foot slip off the accelerator or brake? if, in an accident will i end up in the back seat while the vehicle is in drive? is my young family in jeopardy?

This is a safety issue that affects all 2005 nissan muranos. the drivers seat support has a design flaw making the vehicle unsafe to drive, the flaw is in the design and construction of the driver's seat support. it makes the support support so fragile that it breaks, thus disconnecting the seat from the seat rail. this support will break during an accident, or suddenly, without warning, while the car is in motion. if broken during an accident, the seat will not perform acceptably as part of the safety restraint system; (the safety restrain system is comprised of the seat, the seat belts, and the airbags. they work together to minimize injury in the event of an accident. with the seat loose, the entire system's function is fatally compromised); aggravated injuries or unnecessary death may result. if the failure occurs while driving, the design flaw could cause an accident. in my car, the seat broke while driving at slow speed, making a left turn in a residential area. there was no warning, just an noise, and the seat suddenly was loose. i took it in for repair immediately, the mechanic stated that he has seen several of these recently, nissan is stonewalling customers on this, the repair is very expensive. thus many are choosing to continue to drive their car with the seat broken, in order to avoid the high cost of repair. this represents a growing population of unsafe vehicles on the road. as stated above, these vehicles are not only unsafe for their owner/drivers, they also represent a risk to others sharing the road.

I am writing in regard to a 2005 nissan murano. the driver's seat support bracket has broken. the seat is loose and rocks and wobbles. a driver cannot sit securely in the seat as it moves while you are driving. in looking under the seat it shows that the left steel bracket has totally broken in half leaving the seat unsupported. i took the car into the dealership and they said it is not covered by nissan, and since we are out of warranty, it will cost $900.00. i cannot afford this so the seat remains broken. i asked the mechanic about it and he said their hands are tied as nissan will not authorize the repair on a recall basis. the mechanic has seen several of these, but he said that ours is the worst one he has seen. most of the others have just been wobbly, but ours is totally broken. he offered to talk to someone at nissan about it and go to bat for us. this should be a recall item as more than 8,000 have reported this problem. if there is ever an injury to a driver as a result of a broken seat there will be a law suit that will cost them more than the recall.

Tl- the contact owns 2006 nissan murano. while driving approximately 28 mph the drivers seat started squeaking followed by a loud popping sound. the contact pulled over and checked underneath the seat and noticed the drivers seat was broken. the seat leans towards the drivers door and there is no support on the left side of the seat. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they informed her the welding on the base of the seat was broken and the price of the repair . the contact has contacted nissan and she is expecting a call back from them. the failure mileage was 71,000. ds

While temporarily stopped, there was a loud pop from under the driver's seat and the left side of the driver's seat dropped with the driver still seated in it. the seat is now loose and rocks back a forth as the seat support frame attaching the seat to the floor has broken. we are 1,700 miles from home and are faced with a long drive home with a dangerously loose and partially detached seat. we had been driving on very smooth roads in a normal manner and nothing has occurred that might cause the failure of a seat support system. in several million miles of driving, this is the first seat support failure i've ever witnessed, but a quick search on the internet indicates this is an all too common failure for this particular make, model and year car.

2005 nissan murano- driver's side seat frame snapped at the weld and entire seat now teters back and forth diagonally. car was only 4 yrs old when it happened. girlfriend's car is same model/yr and same happened to her this year (nissan loolked at it and did nothing). this is an absolute safety hazard and an obvious factory defect/design flaw. nissan should have recalled this but is doing nothing for its customers. is it gonna take personal injury due to a car accident or even the loss of an innocent person's life for nissan to consider this a hazard?

Drivers seat is off hinge. took it to nissan for review. they said it's not covered under warranty due to mileage. known issue for seat to break on welded left corner but will cost over $1000 out of pocket to fix. had nissan customer service investigate, they refused to cover as well. faulty seat known issue and cannot get them to pay to fix it.

The pivot, which attaches the driver's side seat to the car, broke. now the seat wobbles severly and in the case of an accident, would not be firmly braced to the vehicle.

My drivers seat in my 2005 nissan murano failed while driving down the road. i was going around a turn and something popped and now the seat rocks back and forth on the left rear of the seat. not very safe having a seat that rocks while driving and broke while driving. luckily i was able to get back on the road when it broke. it is very scary to have it break as you drive.

2005 nissan murano - driver seat broke and is a safety hazars
09/15/201044300
Broken welds in the driver's seat base frame. first broke abound 4/9/2008. aftermarket seat heaters had been installed by a vendor previously. took vehicle to vendor, found broken welds in the driver seat base, causing the base to drop down and to the left. vendor removed the driver seat, aligned, reinforced , mig welded the affected areas. vendor reassembled and tested seat, appeared to be solid. 9/15/2010. driving vehicle at moderate speed (35-40 mph) , loud pop , then left rear side of drivers seat dropped down. no loss of control , but now an obviously unsafe situation. 9/22/10. took vehicle back to vendor (see above), vendor pulled off access panels and verified that welds performed in 2008 were solid and that the frame had broken in another spot. declined to even attempt a repair at this point for safety concerns and advised contacting dealer for new part. 9/22//10 visited nissan dealer, seat inspected by technician, stated that the rear lower drivers seat frame was broken and would need to be replaced. the service dept quoted a price of $750.00 parts, $275.00 labor, for a total of $1,25.00 pl;us tax. this is a serious safety problem in my mind. the car has 44,000 miles, was purchased in, and spends much of it's time in florida. there is absolutely no rust or corrosion anywhere i know of. i believe this is a defect and should be covered by nissan

Ref complaint #10354612 of 9/8/10. driver seat collapse/nissan murano; tue 9/7/10. this is a follow-up because i am understanding that this issue was reported before and simply dropped by your department. this is a safety issue which could have been disastrous had the seat collapsed when our daughter (short and tiny) was driving the vehicle a few days earlier on a trip from springfield to richmond va. thank god she did not encounter the problem then. the support for the seat broke! we have the part. this should not have happened and nissan should take responsibility for the replacement. people are welding the part back: what happens if that should break and an accident occurs? one should not be encouraged to take this route!! we would hope that your department would take this seriously and have nissan recall these vehicles for a total refit of the seat before catastrophe happens. thank you.

Got in vehicle and driver right seat came unattached from the floor and is still like that. wobbles back and forth and not attached any more creating a huge safety issue. bought the car less than a month ago and dealership not returning calls and are acting like they don't know what happened as if i am the first person to report this. there should be a recall as my seat is not attached to the car.

I purchased my 2005 nissan murano in march of 2009. in march of 2010 my dirvers side seat broke. looking under the seat the one of the metal support bars has come unweilded from the track causing the seat to lean to the left against the door. i have had a nissan vehicle since 1995 and have never had any major issues.

I was driving north on i-75 in atlanta, ga. my driver's side rear seat bracket broke. i nearly had an accident since the seat shifted and forced me to change my body position unexpectedly. i've felt/looked at the broken bracket then researched it on the internet. it appears this failure is common on my murano, however, nissan hasn't performed a recall to repair the known safety issue. what can be done now, before someone dies from an unexpected seat bracket failure?

Nissan murano drivers seat defective - while driving my murano last year, the seat weld in front broke causing the seat to lean excessivley and almost causing me to have an accident as i was driving. the nissan dealer said it was a common nissan defect but since there was not a recall i would have to pay for the repair. i paid my mechanic to weld the front break and to include additional support braces. on tuesday of this week, while pulling into a parking lot at 5pm, a different seat weld in the back broke causing the seat to lean to the right while cornering left. becasue of the extreme and sudden movement i lost control of the car, rolled across lanes and up onto a curb, almost taking out 4 people sitting at an outside table at the local glory days restaraunt. i could not reach the brake pedal becasue of the angle. luckily, i did not hurt anybody or damage anything other than possibly throwing a wheel weight off of the front right tire. from visiting many murano owner forums, i see that literally hundreds and hundreds of owners have had a similar experience with these welds breaking and have been told the same thing by their local nissan dealerships it's out of warranty and unless a recall is put out, you're paying close to $1000 for the fix. a manufacturers or design defect that almost caused me to run over 4 people yesterday should indeed be a concern of nissan and it seems that it is not. any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

2005 murano driver seat popped when entering car. seat now has excessive movement up and down in right rear corner. very unsafe condition to drive in since there seems to be no solid connection to the the frame. after removing seat discovered the linkage mechanism between base rails and seat bracket had failed - stamped metal part had catastrophically failed in two locations. failed part is integral to seat frame and cannot be replaced. similar repairs noted on internet quoted at approximately $1000. design constraints for the part should have exceeded the cars intended lifespan and should not be affected by normal usage. safety of driver and occupants could be severely impacted if vehicle operated with this condition. this is a pathetic failure on any vehicle - let alone one with only 75k miles.

Dangerous seat failure on my 05' nissan murano. the driver's seat frame has broken causing the seat to rock from side to side when cornering. this is terribly dangerous and will cause loss of control. the dealers are quoting a price of over $800 to repair something that should never have failed. i have investigated this problem on line and have found that some owners are having the seat welded abd that fixes the problem but nissan is not offering that low cost option because they have no mechanics that weld!!!

I've been having a problem with the power driver's seat in my 2005 nissan murano, the driver's side power seat just started to tilt to one side, and also forward. it is loose and will tilt forward/backward when i decelerate/accelerates. according to my mechanic, it's sort of structural failure withe the anchor of the left rear side of the power driver seat.

Totally unexpectedly, the driver's seat tilted backwards all of a sudden, almost causing an accident as i lost control for a while. i took the car to the garage after wedging the seat stationary with blocks of wood. the mechanic said the weld on the seat bracket broke and that it was my responsibility to fix at a cost of $1100. despite repeated attempts to get nissan to repair what was clearly a faulty design that caused metal fatigue, the seat still has not been repaired. i went on the internet to see if anyone else has had this problem and found in a short time about 200 instances of this bracket breaking in this same spot. this car has only about 38,000 miles and has only been driven by myself.

While driving my 2005 nissan murano the drivers side seat collapsed. this caused a temporary loss of control of the vehicle. luckily we were not in an accident. my brother in law's drivers seat also collapsed. i have found numerous similar stories on the internet. when asking nissans consumer affairs to look into the matter they took 21 days to investigate. they finally told us that they would not pay any of the $900 that was estimated to fix. they stated that it was due to the fact we did not have our warranty. i'm not sure why it took 21 days to figure that out!

Broken drivers seat frame - nissan murano
01/05/200959000
Approximately 15 months ago, our drivers side seat broke underneath the seat causing the seat to lean to the left against the drivers side door. i took the seat out to see what had happened and found the metal frame support bar underneath the seat had snapped. we called the dealer and they told us to bring it in and it could cost upwards of $500 initially. i decided to fix the seat myself and re-weld the metal. i contacted nissan to see if they would do anything feeling that this is a huge safety concern being that the seat is part of the restraint system and they told me to take it to the dealer which i did, then, to have the dealer contact them. the dealer charged me $107 to take the seat out look at it, print off some papers and put it back in the car. nissan then contacted me and denied any accountability for the defect, told me i was over warranty and futhermore that i voided the warranty when i fixed my own seat. i am outraged that there has not been a recall on such an important part of the car! as i check with parts people or even do research online about this problem it's clearly evident that this is a major problem with this car and everyone knows it. i have fixed this seat 3 times over the past 15 months and i am fed up with it. nissan wants $1000 to fix this. i think that sucks and they should be standing by their product and fixing it like a real reputable company would. the website i read several stories on was carcomplaints.com. can you help?

As i was driving down the freeway, i felt a snap from under the seat and slightly pulled me down, which caused my foot to release the gas pedal. i was able to maintain control because i am a skilled and experienced driver. i researched the internet and found this website and apparently there is a lot of issues with the driver seat of a 2005 nissan murano similar to mine. nissan needs to prevent a major accident unlike toyota that was not able to on such an insignificant defect. a lot of lives are at risk and they do not need to wait until something tragic happens to act on the issue.

 Front driver seat broken
04/16/201095000
2005 nissan murano.no previous issues with the seat. i have approx 95k miles. beginning on friday april 16th 2010. drivers side seat began to wobble (side to side) as i was coming to a stop. i was concerned for my safety as i thought that the entire seat had come off the track. i had to pull over and tried to see what had happened. i was not able to see anything due to the plastic covers etc on the sides of the seat. however, i did notice that i could completely lift the seat left to right. i very cautiously drove home. upon further inspection, we found that a metal part under the seat is completely broken in half. the seat is still on the track and all of the power funtions are still operational. however, my seat now wobbles every time i slow down, make turns or come to a stop. this is not a wear and tear item. after online research, i have found a significant number of reports and complaints with the exact same issue. this seems to be more of a safety hazard. i have contacted my local nissan dealership and have been told that it is not a covered item under my extended warranty and that they are familiar with this issue and it will cost approx. $1000 part and labor to repair!! how many more complaints before nissan voluntarily recalls this item or do actual deaths have to occur before something changes?

While driving my 2005 nissan murano on sunday, april 11,201 , i heard something crack and my driver seat collapsed on the left rear. it appears that theseat frame broke. i have approximately 30,000 miles on my vehicle and i feel that this is a serious concern, as i had the presence of mind to pull over as soon as it happened. from an internet investiagtion, it appears that this is a recurring issue and should be addressed before some dies as a result of an apparent design flaw.

2005 nissan murano. driver seat anchor/bracket on back left broke. this causes the seat to rock significantly while driving, especially during turns. main safety concern is the that the issue causes the selt belt to fit incorrectly. it is either becoming too loose or too tight depending on the direction of the seat rocking, the dealer was contacted and was told it is a known issue and the cost to fix is $1,000.00. the issue has not been fixed yet but will in the next month.

My driver's seat broke in my 2005 murano (68,000 miles) in the same manner as a number of others drivers have indicated already. the driver seat broke while driving causing me to loose control for a time....very dangerous situation! the driver seat weld came loose on the left side and now rocks back and forth while driving and going around corners. took it to the dealer and they indicated it was a $1000 plus fix! have to replace the entire seat assembly. dealer and even the extended warrenty i purchased will not cover this obvious defect and safety issue. will be calling nissan next...but from the looks of other complaints, it will be a waste of time since i haven't heard of nissan helping fix anyone with this issue. i'm afraid that until i get this fixed that the rocking motion will break the last support and cause the entire seat to break loose while driving. know if this is not a safety issue....please tell me what is!!!!

2005 murano sl with 48900 miles. failed driver's seat as noted in 207 other complaints on this site. upon getting into the vehicle, the left back portion of the driver's seat suddenly popped and tilted to the left. there is a severe rocking motion of the seat now and turning right causes the driver to have to hold on to the steering wheel with force in order to remain upright and drive appropriately. currently at the nissan dealership having the problem diagnosed. haven't yet gotten word on the cost of this repair but feel strongly that this should be taken care of by nissan as this is a structural failure that should not occur. having no injuries reported does not mean this couldn't happen soon. if you are driving and making a turn at the time of the failure you most definitely could lose control of your vehicle.

I own a 2005 nissan murano, the drivers seat support bar broke underneath the seat.this is the tube that supports the seat in the front. it is a not a heavy enough material. this is causing the seat to be lop sided and loose. it also rocks side to side which i feel is a safety hazard. if the car was in an accident the seat would completely break off the mounts and cause severe injury to the driver this is a common problem with a large majority of nissan muranos. please go to nissan murano.org and you will see the amount of people with the same issue. please look into this as a recall before some innocent person gets killed by nissan for using a material that is not durable enough. i am a mechanical engineer by trade and reviewed the stress calculations for the type of material used and it is not suitable for the purpose. thank you please do something before it turns into a bad situation for someone. robert sammaritano laser technology inc.

I own a 2005 nissan murano. while driving, i heard a snapping sound and then the left side of my driver's seat began to lean towards the driver's door. the seat was very loose and each time i went around a curve or came to a stop the seat would shift dramatically. i took it to the dealer who said that this is a common problem with the murano. they have even published a service bulletin to their maintenance and repair departments on this matter. however, the part is not covered under any of the vehicle warranties and they wanted approx. $1200.00 in parts and labor to replace the broken part, which turns out to be a weld in the driver's seat frame. i opted to take my vehicle to another repair shop, where they welded my existing seat frame back together for a cost of $100.00. i feel that if nissan is aware that they have a problem that occurs often enough for them to alert their service dept. of the matter that they should issue a recall on their defective parts. *tr

My 2005 nissan murano sl awd broke the driver's seat support bracket while driving on a clear, dry paved road in january 2010. the driver's seat rocked forward and backward slightly after i heard a snap. the next day i checked out the driver's seat while no one was sitting in it and noticed that the seat now rocks significantly forward and back and a metal bracket under the seat had broken. i called my local nissan dealership who got me in the next business day. the dealership quoted me $450 to make the repair saying they had to replace one of the two driver's seat lift assemblies and they had the part in stock. my murano has 78k miles on it and is beyond the extended warranty that we had purchased. i bought my murano from this dealership at 50k miles and have brought it back to them for every kind of service at the proper service intervals. because we had followed all the dealership's recommendations in the past for repairs and had done all the needed services, and this seat issue was not something that i could have prevented or otherwise been held accountable for causing (i am an average weight woman), i called nissan's customer service line and spoke to a customer service rep. after explaining this safety issue and the fact that this seat is tied into the air-bag system and asking for some goodwill on this safety defect, i was denied. i asked for just a parts goodwill and was still denied. after reviewing my service statement from the dealership, the service technician noted that he replaced the driver's side front seat lift assembly per bulletin. i looked online and found that nissan has a technical service bulletin (reference number ntb05-043c) that was issued march 29, 2007 about this very issue. further online investigation noted that many people have apparently had this same issue, but at much lower mileage. i am furious that nissan has a known safety issue and refused to cover it.

Driving at a speed of approximately 15 mph and beginning to enter a right hand turn when the driver's seat gave way and slumped to the rear and shifted to the left. i immediately pulled over to investigate what had just happened. the back left mounting bracket of the driver's seat broke in half and now the seat rocks and shifts to the back left. i took the vehicle to the nissan dealership only to be told that they see this problem alot. to repair the seat will cost just over $1,000. nissan recognizes that the bracket breaks and is defective. however, nissan has not issued a recall to resolve this safety issue. the seat has enough rock and play in it that in the event of a crash, the broken seat can act as a catalyst to eject the driver from the driver's seat. *tr

The frame on my seat of my 2005 nissan murano broke. i contacted nissan and my closest dealer. the dealer inspected it, told me that their was a bulletin on the frame repair. they suggested to nissan that they replace it. i also was in contact with nissan and have a file regarding this problem. after 15 days they denied repairing the faulty seat frame. i do not feel this is safe. i also do not feel it is my responsibility as it is a defect and do not currently have the money to cover the repair. you asked for an approximate incident date, this seat has been making noise for approximately 6 months. it's a very hard problem to diagnose because the weight of the seat settles down onto the broken frame. the time that i reported it was 15 days ago. nissan has a detailed file on all of this information and has refused help. *tr

I am the owner of a 2005 nissan murano which currently has 6,700 miles.at at 4,000 miles i noticed the front driver seat started rocking from left to right. i took the car in to the dealership several times and i was told that i have to pay for the repair. after researching the issue online, i realize that hundreds of owners experience the same problem with their driver front seat. i think that this is a very very serious safety issue because if the event of an accident, front on or rear end collision, the driver could be easily ejected from the front seat resulting in an instant fatality. as a responsible citizen, car owner and out of concern from the driving public, i think a recall should be issued for this defect. please see a number of forums reporting the issue. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f14ec7a http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/forumdisplay/f-66.html http://www.www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/murano/2005/accessories-interior/seat_is_broken.shtml http://www.my3cents.com/showreview.cgi?id=41775. *tr

Drivers seat connection rail fails under normal driving conditions causing unstable driving conditions. this happened suddenly a few months ago while i was steering through a turn. the seat rail snapped, and the seat became detached on one side causing my weight to shift unexpectedly. this almost caused an accident. i brought the car to the dealer and they wanted $1,100 to repair it. $700 for 12 long seat rail. i ended up having another auto service weld the broken rail back together for half the cost, but as of today it has broken again. i'm 6' tall 200 lbs and the vehicle is driven mostly in city driving conditions. there is no reason for a seat rail to break under these conditions. *tr

I have nissan murano s 2005 , 60000 miles. lately, during normal driving the drivers seat broke down and i heard popping noise from underneath my seat. right after that it started rock sideways. i don't think my weight is an issue here(160 lbs) because i started searching the internet and many people have the same problem. i contacted the nissan dealer but they told me it's not recalled and my warranty won't cover it. i'm pretty upset with that information because it looks like it's nissan responsibility to take care of that and it's a safety issue. *tr

After buying a used 2005 nissan murano from a ct dealership, 8 months later my driver seat guide went completely bust while driving on the highway. i started feeling more and more loose as i drove and once i got off the highway i was completely thrown from left to right at every slight curve as my seat was completely detached on one side. even once i made my way to the dealership the part was not ready available, so i have been driving the car in those conditions fearful that the seat my completely come off and i won't be able to see the road ahead of me. not to mention that the repair is over $ 1,200, and the manufacturer refers to the guide failure to hold the seat a wear and tear issue. i found many other complaints like mine all over the internet from other 4 to 5 years old murano owners. even the service people at the dealership have voiced their opinion about the problem indicating than nissan should issue a recall for this manufacturing defect. what's next? the steering wheels coming off the dashboard becoming a wear and tear issue as well because the manufacturer decides to cut some corners? i should not have sat on the seat? the truth is that there was no event leading to the failure of the part. not a bump, not a puddle, not an accident, not an abrupt stop, not a fast turn. and by the way, i weigh 185 pounds. how come the rest of the car is practically brand new and this part is completely worn out'? is it possible that the part may be defective and unreliable? what i know is that without your help i, the consumer, am completely powerless when it comes to holding companies like nissan liable for their mistakes. the nhtsa should correct the problem or companies will do their math very carefully when weighing in profits versus product safety. unless the manufactures are hold responsible and liable for their mistakes they will keep pushing for lower quality products and less reliable parts that will keep failing and endangering people's safety and comfort. *tr

About a week ago i sat down in my 2005 nissan murano and heard a crack and the seat began to rock. i looked under the back of the seat and noticed the seat riser had broken. this surprised me as i am not a heavy guy, i weigh 200 pounds. the seat hasn't seen any damage out of the ordinary wear and tear, and the car has never been in an accident either. i figured it was just a single defect and took it to my dealer to get it fixed. they told me it was going to cost just over $1000 to replace the bracket. they also told me every single murano they have sold has this problem. i got online to see if i could find someone to fix it cheaper and found out not only have many people had there seat break, but in the exact same place. at this point i think this is a safety issue and nissan needs to right it. i can't imagine the outcome for someone if one of these seats break during an accident. nissan needs to make a bracket with thicker metal and replace all these faulty ones before somebody gets seriously injured because of it. *tr

My driver's seat broke in the same manner as a number of other driver's. there is plenty of instances available that should be considered to find a quick resolution to this dangerous issue. http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/murano/3302-drivers-seat.html the driver seat is anchored on the right side but is loose from the left rear, allowing significant rocking back and forth and right to left when taking turns, hitting the brakes or anytime the car is moving. i bought this car new in 2005 and am happy to say i am healthy enough to not be on record guinness as the heaviest person that could brake a car seat. both the dealer (weston nissan, at weston, florida) and nissan denied my claim on 9/24/2009. *tr

Nissan murano 2005 driver seat support bracket broke. the seat started to show some movement during turns and stops while car was under warranty but dialer refused to change anything claiming that it is a normal movement. now this bracket finally broke. after looking at the bracket design it is obvious that 1/8 thk bent bracket with a cut-out where only a total of 3/4 of width is left would not be enough to support the seat for too long. metal fatigues and brakes. it did happened to my car on 9/15/09 on the country road during the right turn. i was fortunate enough to be able to clamp on my steering wheel to avoid loosing control of the vehicle due to seat falling back. i can only imagine what would happen to this seat during the car wreck. nissan refuses to replace the broken part at their expense although it is clear that the part that brackets is not a wear item it should provide the sufficient support throughout the life of a vehicle without compromising the passenger safety. somebody needs to get involved and make nissan to take care of this problem before people will get hurt or killed. *tr

2005 nissan murano. seat bracket that anchors drivers' seat to car has broken -allowing seat to rock and move freely while driving. this is a serious defect in the vehicle and apparently very common from the information that i have found. the fact that the driver's (or any seat for that matter) would not remain attached to the vehicle through every day use is a huge cause for concern. not only a hazard to driver (especially in event of accident)- but also to passengers in the vehicle. this car is not able to pass inspection and is totally unsafe to drive in its current condition. someone is going to have an accident,be killed or seriously injured if this known defect is not resolved. nissan apparently is not going to do much about the situation on their own and thus we must rely on nhtsa to make them correct the problem. using cheap brackets/plastic parts to anchor seats to vehicle may survive in a crash lab- but i am putting my children in this vehicle- no one at nhtsa will i bet- knowing this problem. repair is estimated by dealer at $1000 for the consumer. outrageous considering they know they have a problem. *tr

My husband purchased a new nissan murano in 2005. in 2006 we gave the car to our 16 year old daughter. the vehicle has 23,000 (!) on it. last week she informed me that her seat moves when she turns the vehicle. we took the car to crown nissan and was informed that the lifter link was broken and would need to be replaced at the cost of $600 parts and $250 labor. i am questioning why a nissan product and at 4 years of age would have a broken seat??? after researching this on the internet this appears to be a known problem with previous complaints filed with your office. why has this not been addressed? a seat bracket breaking is not a normal wear & tear item. i can see a pattern developing and certainly you folks must be able to also. how many seats/passengers have been ejected from wrecked vehicles? how people have been hung by their seatbelt in the event of a crash? *tr

When leaving an intersection, the rear seat bracket snapped, leaving the seat sagging and flopping with the movement of the vehicle. took vehicle to local dealership. service advisor seemed to minimize the seriousness of the damage. claim he was not aware of similar incidences. a simple internet search revealed a pattern of this issue with this specific vehicle. nissan has agreed to pay a portion of the repair, but claims the damage is outside warranty. car seats should not break under normal use, and nissan needs to formalize a recall. this is another complaint related to nhtsa action # pe05050. *tr

I recently purchased a used 2005 nissan murano. i feel in the love with the car. unfortunately, i have found a problem with the driver side seat. the frame has broken and is now leaning towards the driver side door. i can actually rock the seat back and forth. i have contacted nissan and they have told me that there are no recalls and the warranty has expired. unfortunately, for others, i have read about the same problem with other 2005 muranos from other owners. i'm very disappointed and feel like this should be covered by nissan or by recall since it's a defective part of the car. please review this complaint along with the many others regarding this issue. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan murano. the frame on the drivers seat has broken in the back left side. the dealer inspected it and said that although they have seen many of these it isn't recalled and i am out of warranty so they will not replace it. it is obviously a structural problem. there are thousands of people on line with the same problem. i was quoted $1000 to repair. that seems outrageous to pay when it is a defect in the part the used. *tr

2005 nissan murano: i am having a problem with the driver's power seat. it adjusts itself randomly & makes clicking noises, while i am driving. it mainly slides back to the farthest position, so it is very hard to touch the brake & accelerator pedals. this has been intermittently occurring for approx 7 days. as of today, the back of the seat is now randomly moving forward while i am driving, so that it is in effect folding me in half! this seems like a very dangerous way to drive.. previous to the seat randomly moving on a regular basis (since the past week), the seat felt like it was tilted slightly to one side. at first the problem was that the seat sometimes would slip out of position into another position. this went on for about 2 or so weeks before the clicking noises & random repositioning started happening. i would like the nhtsa to check into this seat failure as i feel that it is a dangerous problem. the seat moves back randomly when i'm driving & for a shorter person this could cause an accident as they may not even be able to touch the pedals in order to pull over. does this warrant a safety recall?? *tr

I have a 2005 nissan murano with 70,000 miles. the seat frame has broken, and costs about $1000 to repair. i have researched the internet and have found hundreds of other people with the same problem. this is a safety problem as the seat is so loose that in a wreck you could become a projectile. nissan needs to admit that this is a defect and fix these seats. *tr

The driver's seat of my 2005 nisssan murano rocks from side to side. it is unstable. i thought it was off track but after looking closely underneath the seat i noticed that the metal bracket that braces the seat was completely broken. the seat is not secured to the car. it is unsafe. i purchased the car brand new; i am the original owner. i went to the local nissan dealer and was told the repair would cost $708 for the replacement part (the entire track would have to be replaced because it is one piece), plus $500 for labor. i declined the repair due to the exorbitant cost and called nissan corporate. i told the company that this was a common defect in their cars (as researched on this site) and requested for the company to cover or reimburse the repair. my call was returned and i was told that i was outside of my warranty and nissan was not in the position to cover the repair at this time. they do not recognize it as a fault in their craftsmanship. i disagree. a broken metal piece that secures a seat to the deck is not normal wear and tear and should be a part that lasts for the lifetime of the car. *tr

The drivers seat in my 2005 nissan murano suddenly collapsed as the frame broke. fortunately, the car was not moving at the time so there was not an accident. i am not a large person and only weigh about 195 pounds. from what i gather this is a very common problem on the murano and an important safety problem due to a poorly designed frame. besides the fact that this is an $800 to $1100 repair bill, there should be a recall to fix this problem before someone gets killed. so far nissan has been unwilling to recall this problem. i would suggest that the nhtsa call for a mandatory recall as soon as possible. *tr

 1. my wife noticed while she was driving her nissan murano (2005) today, that the seat started to feel loose and lean back to the left. she got out of the vehicle and pushed on the seat and noted a significant drop on putting pressure down on the back drivers side of the seat. this is the first time that the seat has been unstable. upon inspection of the seat tonight the bar connecting the seat to the underlying structure had broken. this occurred on the driver's side on the back bar. the metal had worn and there were sharp edges on both sides. there had been no previous damage or abnormality with the seat prior to today (4-23-2009). *tr

The air bag indicator light is flashing in the dash again. i had this problem fixed once before while still under warranty at the north little rock dealership. on leaving the garage within just a mile, i made a left turn and heard a crunching noise in the steering column and it came back on. i went strait back and they said they would fix it but the (second replacement part) wouldn't be in till the next day so i was given a loaner for one day. now it's back on again. also noted shortly after the warranty expired that the lumbar support on the drivers side no longer inflates/deflates and hasn't worked since. i have had all recalls fixed and had to replace the battery at 37,000 miles at my cost. also had to have the dealership resurface both front rotors and replace a rear caliper under warranty that had locked up 1 & 1/2 years ago. i see that the front rotors are in need of resurfacing again even though the break pads have 1/2 of there wear left to go. due to the highly chromed /curved dipstick, getting an accurate oil level reading is not possible at any time, so the dipstick has only been removed three time since purchasing it as it is a pointless endeavor. i own six autos that range in age from 1972 threw this 2005 murano and of all of them, the murano is the least trusted one. i will never own another nissan. *tr

I was driving down the road when the left side of my seat tilted suddenly, throwing me off balance and causing my back to twist. i stopped immediately, and found that the seat was unstable. i took it to my local mechanic, who showed me where the weld had failed on the left side of the seat. as advised, i called my nissan dealer, who indicated that quote this has happened frequently, and we have received a replacement part for the repair, which we keep in stock. they indicated the cost was $660 plus the cost of installation, as my car is 3000 miles over the general warranty limit. although i was not injured, this seat is now unsafe, as it is only partially anchored to the floor. additional stress is on the remaining weld, and it can fail at any time. additionally, any impact can cause the seat to become unanchored. i am contacting nissan corporate tomorrow, but feel that this is truly a safety defect that should be the subject of a recall repair. please advise. thanks. *tr

The following is what i wrote to nissan regarding my broken driver's seat chair (left side) in my 2005 nissan murano: i am a science teacher, and as i drove home from school on friday feb 27th, 2009. i heard a snap, and suddenly felt a drop in the driver seat in my 2005 murano. given the drastic drop, i had no option but to swerve into the next lane, nearing collision with another vehicle. i was panicked but managed to negotiate to the exit of the freeway. i put myself, my passenger who carpools, and others on the road in serious danger. i am sure you would agree this is a manufacturers issue and extremely unsafe (http://www.safercar.gov/). this morning i made an appointment with cerritos nissan, where i purchased my vehicle and spoke to tod and ed, the service managers, in person. they informed me that they had never seen or heard of this issue, and that is extremely rare and uncommon. yet, after doing some research on your website and other valid sources, i found frequent complaints that identified the exact same problem. ed has advised me to contact you for assistance and that he is willing to honor replacement of the defective parts at no cost to me should the nissan corporation handle this problem. my family has purchased over 8 nissan vehicles over the last 10-15 years, and this problem has never happened before. my car is no longer drivable given the circumstance and now my carpool member and i are relegated to public transportation, or rent a vehicle. the extra cost on our teacher

Our 2005 nissan murano with just over 44k miles has a broken driver's seat frame. we have not had any accidents and consider our use to have been normal. i am 200 lbs and my wife is significantly less and she is the main driver of the vehicle. the seat actually broke while my wife was getting in, not while driving. it appears to be the where the back left support connects. the seat still has normal electronic functions but now, the seat is not steady while driving. on right turns, the seat move up and to the right. it then settles back into position when the car returns to straight. the seat will require maintenance as i don't consider it to be safe. it seems part failure on a part that should be extremely durable. *tr

My 2005 nissan murano has a defective drivers seat, which broke during a normal drive. the tilting force from the break caused me a strain in my lower back, and lose control of the vehicle. i ran off the road, causing my tires to be severely damaged, needing to be replaced due to cuts and tears in the side wall, and i believe i need a 4 wheel alignment due to the accident. after the accident, i searched the internet and found that this defective seat has been an issue with other owners, and found this article which describes my experience well http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/showthread.php?threadid=1548 borrowing from this other owner's issue, i quote the parts that are defective are: 87458-ar00a - seat lifter link and 874540ca61a - seat motor assembly the two numbers listed above are what is specified in the seat repair tsb, but apparently there is an updated part number now for both pieces. nissan has combined the part into one part number now. notice the b in the part number - most online catalog numbers are ca68a. the new one is ca68b. apparently the part has been updated again because the old one was still breaking. since this seat now moves back and forth, it is a safety issue that i need to address now. i will pay about $1000 in parts and labor, on top of replacing my tires for $787.96. i will keep the old parts after the seat is repaired for proof. *tr

While driving at approximately 50 mph, while reaching for the radio, i heard a cracking noise under my seat. something broke loose and me and the seat were thrust violently towards the right! luckily, i did not lose control of the vehicle, but it would have been very easy to as the seat breaking was an unexpected shock. the seat now rocks side to side and has become unstable. this is the 2nd time this has happened. dealer repaired it the first time and the service tech was aware this problem existed on this model! in a collision, the seat will most definitely break free and launch the driver (and seat) either into the dashboard or towards the rear of the vehicle. this is an extremely dangerous defect and will inevitably cause fatalities. *tr

The driver seat on my 2005 nissan murano broke for no reason on the mount that attaches it to the floor causing the entire seat to sway when accelerating and making turns. the vehicle has only 65000 miles and in spite of it being past the warranty period, i believe that the manufacturer should be responsible for defective merchandise that are design-related and pertaining to safety. the local dealership won't repair it since nissan corporation declined to pay for it. they however insist that i get the entire seat frame replaced at a cost of approximately $1200 dollars. the local dealership has received 3 cases just like this and only one of them was accepted by nissan. i don't know what my rights are in this case but a defective seat is different from other moving parts on the vehicle that wear with time. *tr

Message to all nissan murano drivers, drivers seat is built on a welded frame, and even though the vehicle has a reverse camera we all still tend to look over our shoulders to check whist reversing, (which we should!) putting pressure on the frame of the seat and causing it to break the seat welding and causing a mal-function which in the majority of cases will not be at very high speeds, a further problem occurs when drivers don't realize and continue to drive, creating a much greater danger. *tr

Back in february, 2008, the driver's seat on my 2005 murano malfunctioned--specifically, the seat was not loose, but all of a sudden would not slide forward on the right side thereby creating a grinding noise and a slight and unnatural swivel of the seat to the left. i took it to the dealership for repair. part number 87450-ca684 was the offending part per my invoice. all other power seat features were operating fine. i asked the service manager what would cause this and he said he didn't know, but they had seen 5 such incidents in the past 2 months. this got me wondering if this was a widespread issue. so, i found a nissan online club of owners reporting seat failures. i have been tracking this for months and now have gotten to the point where i believe this is a serious issue that deserves reporting and nhtsa attention. fortunately, my repair was covered under my extended warranty sans a $50 deductible. but, consistent with all these postings, the service manager indicated this is typically a $700 repair. while i accept that things break, i, too, am disappointed, but as i indicated more and more concerned after reading post after post at this site (please goto http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/webx/.f14ec7a?displayrecent) for all the posts. as an fyi, the broken part is not available. *tr

Without any apparent reason, the power driver's seat in my 2005 nissan murano began slightly tilting back and forth, similar to a rocking chair motion. dealer stated the whole seat baseframe needs replacement. cost of repair $800 plus. of course the car has 40,000 miles on it and is 4000 miles over warranty. i have never heard of such an item needing repair on a vehicle with so few miles and never having been involved in a collision. seems like a design flaw and should be replaced by nissan at no cost to the consumer. through research on many internet sites, it seems this problem is more prevalent than i thought. nissan should be made to issue a recall before someone get seriously injured or killed. *tr

I own a 2005 nissan murano w/ power driver seat. i have found that the seat attach point on the left rear is broken due to a bad design. the seat is attached to the seat rail with approx. a 1 inch x 1/2 inch x.060 thick sheet metal part. there is a 90 degree bend at this point, and this is where it has broken. i have taken picture of the area in question, and can send if needed. with the seat not properly attached to the seat rail and the car, it now is a safety issue. if this part breaks with normal use, i wonder what would happen in a moderate crash. how much more bodily injury is their when the seat is no longer attached to the car during the course of a accident viewing auto web sites, i see this is a common problem. i believe that nissan should issue a recall for this defect.. i hope you can help cameron j. brewer *tr

I have a 2005 nissan murano. the drivers seat has broken off the track from normal use. this makes it very difficult to drive. i have asked the dealer if this was covered under warranty. it is not covered nor is it a recall. even though they have told me they have had several 2005's come in with broken seats. from several websites i see that this is a large problem for nissan. yet, they will not recall or assist in repair cost. i think nissan is well aware that this is a problem and they are trying to avoid a recall for as long as they can. i feel this is a real safety issue. *tr

My 2005 nissan murano has a broken front seat frame. the dealership says it will cost me $900 to fix. i had noticed a lot of creaking noises over the last several months and thought it was a squeaky spring in the seat. i was going to have them look at it during a service appointment next week, but as i was driving yesterday, the seat basically came apart and was rocking to the left side , especially noticeable as i made a left hand turn. it felt as if i was going to fall right out of my seat. this is very dangerous and i am unable to drive the car based on this issue. the dealership said there is nothing else that they can do and that it is not covered under warranty. after reading on a chat line (see below) http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f14ec7a/0 i realize that this issue is very widespread amongst other murano owners and they share in the same concerns as myself. bottom line is, is that my car is undriveable at this point! *tr

The driver's side seat frame snapped in two places while the car was not even in motion. lakeland nissan dealer first said it was covered under a tsb, but after taking it to them they said it was not covered because the mileage was over 36,000 mi. even though no one mentioned this previously. lakeland nissan dealer then quoted $997.00 to replace the seat frame. this appears to be a major public safety risk and manufacturer's defect, at the very least a poor design. i have researched this on the web and found similar complaints on multiple occasions. i would really like to review the initial crash test results from nissan to see how this escaped detection.  My 2005 nissan murano's driver's seat snapped and broke when simply going around a curve at a low rate of speed. the car had 38,000 miles on it and was only 2 years old. i took it to the dealership and they admitted to me that it was a defective seat bracket, but that the company was not going to cover it- not the dealership, and not the car manufacturer. they admitted that they had fixed many, many muranos with this same defect in the past two years. because it was a safety hazard, and the car is leased, i was stuck with a $1,200 repair bill ($800 for the part, a whole new seat track and $400 for labor). i appealed to nissan corporation because the internet is buzzing with reports of this being a documented defect and engineering flaw, and they told me that they were not planning on doing anything about it- i was stuck paying the entire amount! i felt ripped off to the max! since i have a 3 year old and the seat flopped around at will when i was driving, i felt like i has no choice but to fix it because i was afraid of a crash. nissan should be ashamed of themselves, and so should brown's nissan of sterling, virginia! before this i was quite happy with the car, but no more- i feel cheated and robbed by nissan and brown's. *tr

My 05 murano, just 33k miles...the driver's seat has become detached and the service department told me it may have been a welding defect. when i asked about the cost for repair and what was involved, parts and labor are approx. $1,000. they said i need to replace the entire seat bottom. said the assembly just comes apart and is not repairable. he told me even with an extended warranty, this still would not be covered. i have escalated a claim with the consumer affairs department at nissan and they are supposed to contact me sometime today. so far, i've been told that the powertrain warranty will not cover this as well. i can't believe how many complaints are on the internet for this same problem and safety issue. this should definitely be a recalled item for nissan. *tr

A bracket on the driver's side power seat has broken, and the seat tilts to one side and also forward. it is loose and will move forward several inches when i decelerate/accelerate or get in/out of the vehicle. this problem has occurred under normal use. the vehicle has not been in an accident nor anything other than ordinary driving on streets. the broken bracket appears to be very small for a weight-bearing piece. this piece would certainly not survive a crash. if still intact, the piece would certainly break during a crash. this could cause the driver's seat to move dangerously close to the steering wheel, allowing the driver to possibly impact the steering wheel or windshield. i have not repaired this yet, as i need to decide what route to take. apparently the dealership charges about $1,000 to repair/replace the offending part, but they will replace it with the same fragile part. it appears that contacting a professional welder may be a better choice, as they can weld the pieces together and strengthen the pieces too. *tr
