Upon starting vehicle in a.m., i heard a loud whine emanate from engine compartment. the sound was exactly like brittle leaves from a tree were rubbing on the moving belts. i turned steering wheel left and right and steering sensation seemed sporadic and irregular. i opened the hood and checked serpentine belt and power steering belt. i thought the belts may be glazed or have loosened or had a foreign object touching them. all looked okay but the noise remained. that afternoon i called my mechanic and made appt. my mechanic checked vehicle , added power steering fluid as he found there was a leak in the power steering pressure hose and said he would order a new unit and install as soon as possible. he said this is an extremely common part to fail on these muranos. within a few days the repair was complete, however it set me back four hundred dollars. i called nissan at 1-800- nissan1. the agent on behalf of nissan refused to accept responsibility, however did make a case number. i stated someone will be seriously injured or killed one day, but was met with the obligatory we are not responsible. i called the dealer where i purchased the murano and was told nissan is well aware of the numerous failures of this power steering pressure hose, and it is extremely common. since there is no recall, there is nothing that could be done to assist me. *tr

I noticed power steering fluid on the ground and noticed that the power steering reservoir was low. i put the car on jackstands and confirmed that the power steering high pressure line was leaking. this is an extremely dangerous situation since the fluid is combustible and i observed the steering fluid on the catalytic converter and exhaust pipe. i fixed the hose myself and saved almost $450 but nissan should address this defect before somebody is killed in a fire. after reading the nissan forums online it looks like nissan has made no attempt to correct this dangerous defect. *tr

The high pressure power steering hose and sensor assembly basically blew out of this lovingly used nissan murano. this caused a power steering whine when turning and made turning difficult and unsafe. further due to the nature of the blow out vice slow break it happened quickly and immediately impacted the amount of power steering fluid available to the system. naturally, as there was no extended warranty, nissan would not cover cost nor consider a reduction in repair/replacement fees. this is a big-time historical problem with this particular make and year of this nissan. local dealerships say that they replace about two of these per week on average, and the internet is filled with similar stories of repairs costing in excess of $600. this repair cost me a total of $650 dollars and a real lack of confidence in the quality of the nissan product and customer service.

08/20/201157000
2006 nissan murano with approximately 57,000 miles on it. very difficult to move the steering wheel while noise coming from under the hood. i noticed the power steering reservoir was low and refilled it. leakage identified by stain on parking. dealer determined that cause of the leak is a failure of the high pressure line for the power steering pump. service advisor at the dealership told me this is a very common case. dealer charged $550 to install a new hose. nissan refuse to reimburse it. numerous failures of this part are documented on web forums, nhtsa site, as well as being common knowledge among the mechanics network. i wonder if it is not a manufacturing/material problem of the part. concern is that total failure can cause a surprise loss of steering resulting in a crash and/ or cause a fire cause is very close to the engine. this should be a recall issue asap.

I have a 2006 nissan murano. in december of 2010 i noticed the power steering reservoir was as low, and refilled it. three days later a noticed a leak under the car where i parked, and the power steering reservoir was empty again. since then i have found out the high pressure hose to the power steering needs to be replaced. the car has only 52,000 miles on it. i did some investigation on the internet and found this a common problem for this car. i believe this should be a recall issue for nissan.

In may 2009, i purchased a used 2006 nissan murano from carmax, i check the vehicle for any leak signs and none were notice, the vehicle had 27000 miles at the time of purchase, less than two months later while driving from orlando florida, while drivinf at 70 miles per hour, i notice a noise and a little problem with the steering wheel, i pulle over, opnede the hood and notice that the steering fluid was almost gone, i added power steering fluid and made it home, after researching the web i notice that i was not the only one with this kind of problems, after that i visited a nissna dealer, and my surprise was that they already know the part number for this issue, and asked the desk persone about it, and they said that so many people looked for the same part so many time that they already know it by heart. it costed me almost 500 dolar to have this problem repai at the dealer.there should be a recall for this item,it is defective from day one.

2006 nissan murano with approximately 76,000 miles on it. power steering leakage identified by stain on driveway, as well as noise coming from under the hood. dealer determined that cause of the leak is a failure of the high pressure line for the power steering pump. dealer charged $750 to install a new hose. this has to be the most expensive hose on any car. concern is that total failure can cause a surprise loss of steering resulting in a crash. this should be a recall issue.
10/20/201066000
2006 nissan murano with approximately 66,000 miles on it. power steering leakage identified by stain on driveway, as well as noise coming from under the hood. with low fluid, steering is sluggish at all speeds. mechanic determined that cause of the leak is a failure of the high pressure line for the power steering pump. current remedy is to add roughly a half pint of power steering fluid every few days, and avoiding driving the vehicle. numerous failures of this part are documented on web forums, nhtsa site, as well as being common knowledge among the mechanics network. concern is that total failure can cause a surprise loss of steering resulting in a crash.

Turned on my car and found a loud racketing noise coming from the front passenger side. kept driving car until my steering wheel became completely locked, luckily i was near a sears and had it looked at. diagnosed it as a leak in my power steering hose. they added power steering fluid and told me it would be hundreds of dollars to fix. after 24 hours, the steering fluid they had added had completely leaked to a puddle under my car and my wheel was locked again. i have had 2 other friends with the exact same car and the exact same problem. obviously with all the other complaints about the 2006 murano having power steering issues, this is not a coincidence it is a manufacturing problem. i am very lucky that i was near a parking lot and not on the interstate when my wheel became completely locked! this is a very dangerous problem, that nissan needs to take care of!

I bought a 206 nissan murano from a dealer. the car was certified clean by manheim the auction house.the car was inspected by the dealer and it was in good shape. i had the car inspected pre purchase inspection by stevens creek nissan www.stevenscreeknissan.com. it was certified clean with absolutely _no_leaks_. then 30 days later i hear a whine within the car and i took it to a local mechanic to inspect. it was identified as a leak in power steering fluid hose. how come 30 days there wasn't any reported leak , but now there is a leak that had drained a lot of power steering fluid and that caused the high pitch whine. the mechanic added some power steering fluid and the sound stopped. when i checked with a kragen store where i went to buy power steering fluid , they said that this is common problem with nissan. i checked the news groups online and i find that many people have complained about nissan power steering hose. http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/reliability.aspx?year=2005&make=nissan&model=murano http://www.nissanmurano.org/forums/showthread/t-12704.html http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/murano/2005/steering/power_steering_fluid_leaking.shtml there is a national backorder of over 300 for this 'combination hose-metal tube power steering hose on the pressure side' part # 49720cb60a. i have been waiting since 9/2/09. i noticed that all of my power steering fluid was drained when i checked under my hood on vacation. if i didn't happen to see it, i could have had a major accident. this is the power steering we are talking about! this is obviously a widespread issue, and if nissan doesn't want major lawsuits for wrongful death, they had better get on the stick and do a recall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.justanswer.com/questions/34u6k-i-have-a-2006-nissan-murano-which-has-developed-a-growling common repair i was told as nissan can not manufacture replacement parts to keep up with demand on these faulty parts( pressure hose). *tr

Nissan murano 2006, i purchased this car new. i have had several recalls in the past. i took my suv to the dealer in jan 2010 for a power steering leak. the service guy told me the hose had to be repaired, so i got it repaired. a month later i started having the same problem in feb 2010. now nissan service is blaming on the power steering rack, and it needs to be changed for $2000.00. i went on line to see how many complaints for the same issue, and found others complained about the same issue as mine. i think it's very unjust for nissan to charge their customers to the extreme for their defects. please help! i am unemployed for 12 months, and i need my vehicle. *tr

High pressure hydraulic line associated with power steering pump is leaking. shortly after buying the vehicle used from a dealer a noise under the hood began. i could not diagnose in the driveway and took it to the dealer who told me that the high pressure line to the power steering pump was leaking at a fitting. he quoted the repair price to be several hundred dollars. i filled the power steering reservoir and the noise went away. i have found numerous other complaints of this type online through nissan forums and through auto fault awareness websites. part number 49720-cb60a. *tr

 1. normal driving of nissan murano approximately 65,000 miles. 2. high pressure hose on power steering system failed. leakdown rate provided some warning due to noise but failure can cause a sudden dangerous loss of steering capability. 3. because nissan has so many of these particular failures, no oem hoses are available at this date. many dealerships are awaiting replacement hoses for customers. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. the contact experienced issues with the steering in his vehicle. the steering wheel continued to lock when the vehicle was started. the contact had to exert great force in order to turn the steering wheel. the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that in order to prevent the steering wheel from locking, both the front and rear wheels needed to be parallel to each other and the steering wheel needed to be in a horizontal position. the vin was not accepted by the system. the current and failure mileages were less than 42,000. updated 09/11/09 *bf the consumer stated the steering wheel locked when the tires were not perfectly aligned. updated 09/15/09.*jb

2006 nissan murano; high pressure power steering line failed at 36344 miles. caused temporary loss of control of vehicle, and fluids to leak from vehicle. dozens of other similar failures documented on various website and nissan blogs. no recall to date, however this seems to have been a common problem since the 2004 model year. vehicle is driven under normal conditions, and on average less than 20 miles per day/500 miles per week. to date, nissan, and it's local dealership have refused to make this repair to the vehicle, as it was a mere 344 miles past the warranty expiration. estimated cost to make necessary repairs is $800 to $1000. *tr
