Hello - i have been reading multiple threads on the nissan forum, on facebook and elsewhere regarding nissan murano sun visors from 2006 and other years that fail and flop down.... on the passenger side this is not as much of a safety issue, however, on the drivers side it is... an unexpected blocked sight vision coupled with traffic will (if it has not already) result in an accident, injury or death to someone....the two visors are not interchangeable. nissan will fix it (if under warranty) but they are counting on the failure happening after warranty and then charging a hefty price for a driver's side replacement, and/or human ingenuity to allow owners to try fix the problem them selves.... velcro does not work, switching visors leads to the vanity mirror door flopping down as well..... we have such an issue with our 2006 nissan murano... it should be required for nissan to recall and repair these on 2006 and other tears which use part # 96401 for a driver's side sun visor before they are faced with a lawsuit... a copy of this complaint is going to my personal attorney.... thank you.... *tr

The driver's side power seat somehow broke under normal wear and tear. the seat leans to the left side and wobbles to the front and back. therefore having to accelerate, decelerate, turn corners and go over rough road causes the seat to move all over the place. i believe this causes a safety issue while trying to drive. this is a nissan design flaw that should be on a recall notice and corrected by nissan free of charge to the consumer. there are numerous complaints regarding this seat and for many, the dealership wants to charge some outrageous price to get the problem corrected. another issue is the driver's side visor which flops down unexpectedly while driving for no apparent reason. when returned to it's normal place, it will fall down. this causes another safety issue while trying to drive. the visibility is compromised and an accident could very well occur. please address these design flaws for recalls.

The driver side sun visor is faulty. the first time i put it down it was very tight. the next time i put it down it was like something snapped and now the visor hangs exremely loose. as i am driving, it continously falls blocking my view of the road. this happens especially while driving on highways. i know this is not due to regular use as i have seem many complaints in different nissan forums about this very same problem. are you going to be the next toyota and wait for someone to crash and die due to a safety issue that you are not recalling?

Sun visor driver side failed to stay up and suddenly falls. the dealer quotes $300 part + 150 labor just to replace and did not guarantee it won't failed again. of course is not covered by nissan. how many other brands beside nissan have you seen with this problem? i am simply appaled by the lack of concern from nissan. after reading complaints about seat collapsing, wheel bearing going out, visors falling blocking the view of the driver, steering hoses braking causing fire, in vehicles with low mileage i cannot beliebe nissan does not identify this as a safety issues and allows the consumer to pay for these faulty components. the fact tha nissan does not stand up behind their products is an insult to everyone who bought this product. nissan offers no assistance despite the clear premature failure of the components. this is my first and last nissan vehicle.

While driving at approx. 45 miles per hours the sun driver's side sun visor suddenly lowered from the up position, completely blocking my view of the road in front of me. this problem persisted intermittently then the visor would not stay in the up position at all. i had to remove the visor in order to see, but i am then blinded by the sun at times creating an equally dangerous situation. i have read several online forums and this is an ongoing issue that needs to be fixed. there is no fix for the visor, just a forced replacement at $300.00.

Drivers side visor began swinging down and blocking vision intermittently during high speed travel and bumpy conditions. the visor has continued to degrade and swings down under almost any movement. i had a quote from a mechanic to replace this item, but the cost seems excessive. the visor is currenly held in place with duct tape/ velcro, but the home fix is not effective or long lasting.

Both visors on the passenger side and driver side drop; mostly occurs on the drivers side, if the road is a little bumpy it falls down a lot! it is extremely dangerous as it occurs so often and i live in a bigger city and deal with the problem of traffic on a regular basis, it causes my line of sight to be extremely obstructed as i am a taller person and already have my seat down as low as possible and cannot see anything when the visor drops.

This complaint is about the driver's side sun visor of 2006 nissan muranos. i have found forums with many people experiencing the problem that i am of 2006 and other model years where it fails to stay up. the tension or spring in the sun visor is gone just like that and it falls and blocks vision while driving. it falls just driving regularly, and although drivers need vision always and constantly while operating the vehicle, it also falls at times that are most dangerous when vision is of utmost importance, i.e. any driving on rough surfaces, any maneuvering to avoid accidents, uneven roadways, unexpected braking or even just turning. i don't believe the consumers of these vehicles should be responsible for the very expensive replacement that nissan quotes when reporting the problem. there is nothing in the warranty about sun visors or problems impacting visibility. the seat belt is a safety item and is covered for a long period of time, 120 months (10 years)! the sun visor blocking visibility while driving should be along the same lines as that regarding warranty, and there's nothing that says it is or isn't. i am dealing with nissan's consumer affairs department now but do not have hopes of getting this resolved with them. i have had to replace a very expensive ballast for the driver side hid bulb (cost only mitigated by buying used), the fuel sensor, have a rattling window from the beginning that the dealer fixed but the fix didn't last, and have had other issues with the nissan dealership i bought and serviced the car from. it's one thing after the other and i have not filed a complaint about the other items, but this is a severe safety issue and it's time to put my foot down. it is not an old car, there is no reason i, or any of the other murano owners should be personally liable for this serious visibility while driving issue.

This complaint regards the sunvisors on the driver's side of a 2006 nissan murano. the current sunvisor fails to stay up (parallel with vehicle roof) or canted. it falls constantly, obstructing the view of the roadway for drivers. additionally, the configuration of the visor is such that it is likely to fall when driver's need their vision the most-- upon hitting uneven or rocky pavement, striking debris in the road, or making necessary evasive maneuvers to avoid an accident. this problem appears to be widespread with nissan muranos, as several forums discussing the issue are visible on the internet. one such forum is nissanmurano.org. the site lists approximately eleven pages of car owners and other individuals discussing the same problem. the current remedy suggested by nissan is a $500 replacement visor, which is not covered by extended warranty. this figure seems unreasonable for the severity of the problem, its widespread occurrence, and the potential consequences of having an internal vehicle accessory fall over the eyes of the driver at any moment.

Driver's side sunvisor began to drop when car hits a bump, going over rough roads and at random times. now it drops all the time causing the vision of the driver to be blocked and causing potential safety issues. i have extended warrenty but its not covered and was told by the dealer it would cost $520.00. this issue must be solved for safety reasons. with multiple complaints nissan should consider a recall.

Sun visor keeps dropping down while driving which is a safety issue when it blocks the ability to see while driving. there are complaints all over the internet about this being an issue with the nissan murano but nothing has been done about it (like a recall).
09/01/20065000
The defective design of the driver-side visor in our 2006 nissan murano results in a safety hazard because the visor will not stay up - it falls down, blocking the driver's view. drivers are either forced to drive with one hand on the wheel while trying to hold the visor up with the other; or driving with a very restricted view of the road with the visor hanging down. replacement visors are no better - they fail within a few weeks of being installed. according to websites we have visited, the design defect of the visor is common among nissan murano models of many other years also.
04/11/201152500
The sun visor on the drivers side does not lock in the up position. this causes it to fall donw into the field of view and is a definate safety issue especially when driving on rough roads as it can block you vision without any warning. manufacturer and dealers will not cover this repair once out of warrenty and it costs upwards of $400 to do the repair. i have investigated this and have even heard from dealers that this is a common occurance with these vehicles all the way back to 2003. this should definately be a saftey recall as it could cause an unexpected accident.
03/01/201141000
My driver side sunvisor flops down and will not stay positioned correctly to shield the sun. i either have to drive w/o the visor and be blinded by the sun or i have my view obstructed from the floppy sunvisor being right in my line of vision. the failure occurs anytime i try and use the visor. this started when my mileage was 41,000 and i drive a 2006 murano. this is a big safety concern. my nisaan dealer quoted me at $433.18 to repair the visor. i have done research and this appears to be an ongoing issue with nissan muranos.
03/01/201156000
Sun visors in 2006 nissan murano fail repeatedly aned will flop down blocking the driver's view causing unsafe condition. this problem appears to be ongoing since at least 2005 models not liited to murano only. the internet is filled with posts of people having this problem and dealerships are replacing with the same part that does not fix the problem permanently as these new visors fail as well. it started when only hitting a bump. now it occurs during normal driving inclduing at freeway speeds.
11/01/201032000
Driver's side sun visor has failed. the visor will no longer stay in an up position this problem interferes with my visibility while driving. today i took my murano in for service was told by the nissan service center that it would cost me $420 to replace the visor. i strongly believe this is a manufacturer's defect and a serious safety issue. nissan should be recalling and replacing these visors immediately.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 nissan murano. while driving approximately 30 mph, the sun visor fell and struck the contact hard on the head. the failure was a continuous occurrence over a span of three months. the failure progressed to the point where the sun visor would hang open from the assembly and would not close. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. the failure mileage was 52,000 and the current mileage was 54,000.

Sun visors on my 2006 nissan murano fall down when i go over rough pavement or dips. i push them back in place, and as i am driving they start working their way to the down position. dealer says my extended warranty will not cover it. this is definitely as defect in part workmanship. nissan needs to admit parts are defective.

2006 nissan murano. problem began ~40k mileage. driver's side visor will no longer stay in up position for more than few minutes of driving, less if any bumps in the road. the visor cannot be set to hold any position other than vertical at 90 degrees, causing severe diminished visibility. visor will drop without warning creating hazard. repair estimate is $400. have been unable to locate used part for replacement. visor temporarily held in place with package sealing tape, but this too is a hazard if needing to use visor to shield direct sunlight. hundreds of complaints about this problem found on internet search. appears to be faulty part from nissan. severe accidents are only a matter of time.

2006 nissan murano. the drivers side sun visor drops down abruptly and obstructs the drivers view. this started approximately 3 months ago on my vehicle. out of the blue, the visor will flop down even though it is securely in the clip. the problem lies within the visor itself as i have removed the entire assembly for inspection. the local dealer wants over $400 to fix a problem that is safety oriented. nissan corporate is of no help. their fix is to apply velcro to hold the visor in place.

2006 nissan murano driver & passenger sun visor does not stay in place. the mechanism for the sun visor malfunctions. when placed in the up, locked in position (not in use) it pulls away and hangs loosely. when placed downward to block the sun the visor does not stay in a locked and angeled position. it has suddenly dropped and obstructed my view. this is a safety hazard and may result in an auto collision. i live in colorado where the majority of our days are sunny. i am often forced to support the sun visor by holding it in place with my left hand while driving only with my right hand. this is a safety concern for me, as a driver should have both hands on the wheel while driving, i wear sunglasses however, the suns glare is often so intense that the visor is necessary especially during rush hour traffic when i am driving west towards the sunset. the last time my visor malfunctioned was yesterday, 10/1/10 while commuting in heavy rush hour traffic (5pm mst). nissan corporation should take action to recall & replace the sun visor mechanism.

We also had the drivers side sun visor of 2006 nissan muano drops down unexpectedly while driving, my daughter almost had an accident in orlando, fl where is she is a studentt!!!. this is a safety hazard and is extremely startling to the driver when it drops down and impairs vision. also it can drop 2-3 times within a 2 mile stretch of highway. it will not stay in it's upright position. we also took the vehicle in to a nissan dealership in here in tampa, fl and was told that nissan would not repair or replace the defective visor because it was considered cosmetic and was not covered under warrantyand also called nissan's customer care department and was told the same thing. this is not a cosmetic thing, it's a true danger! what is it going to take from nissan to wake up and do something, someone getting killed!!! to replace the stupid sun visor would be over $400.00, nissan shoulkd at least give folks a discount who are experiencing this problem. what is the big deal, it would be goodwill and make a lot of happy, safe customers!

2006 nissan murano - left hand (driver's side) sun visor failure to stay flush with roof. the part falls into the view of the driver creating a safety concern. the failure occurs constantly. to correct the issue a $404 part needs to be ordered from nissan ($404 for a sun visor with a lighted vanity mirror, seriously???) nissan shouls take action and recall this part based on hundreds of occurrances being discussed on forumns.

The sun visors on my 2006 nissan murano, both driver and passenger side, fail to stay in place. they continually fall down and are in the line of vision of the driver. this is clearly a safety issue as the driver is momentarily blinded at the least. it also causes the driver to jump and may have an end result of a jerked wheel. we have attempted to fix this on numerous occasions, but the $400 estimate for each shade seems far too steep to pay, especially when i see this is a very common problem for nissan muranos of all years.

Both visors on my 2006 nissan murano have stopped working properly and become a safely hazard. this vehicle is only about 5 years old and already both visors have lost their tension causing them to fall down while driving, blocking the view of the driver. also they will not stay where they are placed, so they do not serve the purpose of blocking the sun making them more hazardous. a complaint was filed with nissan corporate (file number 675-5453) in march of 2010, but they denied the claim.

The driver side sun visor on my 2006 nissan murano won't stay up anymore. like the other complaints, it just drops down. on occasion, it will stay for a short while, only to drop into my line of sight while driving!! definitely safety hazard that nissan needs to address.

2006 nissan murano drivers seat and sun visor. my 2006 nissan murano has had two parts fail that i believe are a safety concern and warrant a recall. the 1st part is the drivers seat. i'm not a large person but the left side seat bracket broke and now my seat rocks left and right. i can't raise the seat up and down because only the right side works. the seat also bounces up and down. apparently this is a very common problem with the murano and nissan's excuse is wear and tear. seriously??? nissan offered to replace the driver's seat for $1000 +. the second part that has failed is the driver's sun visor. whenever i hit a bump, the sun visor swivels down and totally blocks the drivers view out the window. this is not safe. nissan offered to replace the sun-visor for $350.
04/15/201086000
The driver side sun visor on our 2005 nissan murrano no longer stays in position. the visor will just 'flop' down when hitting a bump or any other abrupt manuever. when the visor flops down the vision of the driver becomes impaired. the driver can push the visor back up into its original position but the visor will then just flop down again without warning. the dealer will not replace the visor under any warranty. the owner of the vehicle is expected to pay between $400-$460 for a new visor replacement.

The driver side sun visor on my 2006 nissan murano is defective and is no longer covered under the manufacturer warranty. it has not been overused, however, the visor falls abruptly at various times while driving blocking the driver's vision momentarily. it has not caused an accident, however, driving with it as it is can possibly cause an accident during that moment of obstructed vision while driving on a highway, especially at night time. the dealer or the extended warranty for my vehicle does not cover this cost and the replacement cost is ridiculously expensive. *tr

Approx 8/2009 i had my driver side visor replaced after sudden failure to remain upright. it would flop down while driving to block expected view and/or stay at an angle that would have hit me right in the middle of my forehead, being tall, as is my husband, should an accident cause any forward body movement. nissan has replaced the driver side under warranty and now just 1 day ago the passenger side also did the exact same failure. my husband was the passenger and he kept saying boy i don't like this would catch me right in the middle of my forehead if we got hit it won't stay up so it has to always stay down now which restricts night time driving. i googled murano visor complaints and there are many of the exact same complaints!!! i would like to request you review this as a big danger for visual restriction during night or sudden unexpected limits during day driving upon dropping down and possible facial injury upon any impact. thank you very much. *tr

2006 nissan murano sunvisors (driver and passenger) continually drop down during driving. they rotate from a up position to a down position on their own. average road vibration / driving conditions constantly causes this to happen. once the visors are down, they block the view of the road while driving. these are not covered under normal factory warranty or extended warranty. part cost for each visor is $400.00 from nissan....does not include installation costs. nissan will not replace these under recall / warranty / tsb. looking to get resolution to this problem, as it seems to be rather widespread / occurring amongst fellow murano owners. *tr

I own a 2006 nissan murano that has a defective part in the driver's side visor causing it to fall in the driver's face. the only way to fix is to use velcro or hold up with one hand while driving. this is dangerous as the velcro is only a temporary fix as it is not strong enough to hold up the heavy visor and continually falls in the face of the driver. the visor malfunction started happening around 50k miles and is not covered under nissan's warranty. the visor can be replaced, but at a cost of near $500. i feel that this defect in the visor should be covered by nissan as it is a safety hazard while driving. i believe this to be a widespread problem as i have read similar complaints on nissan auto forums. *tr

The driver side sunvisor on my 2006 nissan murano refuses to stay up and continually drops in front of my face while driving unless i hold it with one hand. nissan knows the problem and refuses to help for less than $400-$500. *tr

While driving my 2006 murano, i went over a set of train tracks which is quickly followed by an intersection. just before i hit the tracks, a car pulled out in front of me from the upcoming intersection. as i went over the tracks applying the brakes, the drivers side sunvisor dropped obstructing my view of traffic. i nearly missed an accident. the sunvisor falling into the drivers view at random is a definite problem. i have searched the forums online and found this to be a common problem for the sunvisors to fail. a replacement at the dealer is about $500. nissan does not see the safety issue in this and will not replace the dangerous sunvisors once out of the 3 year 36000 mile warranty. mine failed at 3 years and 2 months, with 32000 miles on the vehicle. i tell you about the one time i almost was in a serious accident because of the sunvisor, but it falls down in my face on a regular basis. about every 20 or so minutes of driving. nissan needs to recall their dangerous sunvisors, they can drop down in the drivers view at any time. i nearly hit a lady in the drivers door. *tr

Driver's-side visor suddenly became unable to stay at a secure angle, which causes a recurring visibility problem. it no longer stays at a secure position if it is not flipped up flat against the headliner. this precludes using it as intended to block sun from shining directly into driver's eyes. if not flat against the headliner, it only hangs straight down and completely blocks line-of-sight while driving, regardless of whether the visor's end is secured or not in its clip. to avoid sun shining directly and unsafely into eyes, it's necessary to hold the visor at necessary angle with one hand, leaving only one hand on the steering wheel. it may sound like a minor problem - - until you regularly experience having to make a choice between being literally blinded by the sun while driving or having to use one hand to hold the visor up. it is no longer covered by my now-expired 36 mo/3 yr warranty. dealers estimate to repair: $400.00. *tr

Sun visor on 2006 murano does not stay up or in the proper place. i have to either hold or use my hand as a shield from glare of sun. i am very disappointed to see that others have the same complaint. i always felt that the interior quality of the murano was good. i believe that there should be a recall since this does not appear to be an isolated incident. *tr

2006 nissan murano sl driver and passenger side sun visors suddenly drop without warning; when needed to block the sun when driving they do not stay in place, they just hang straight down. the visors started falling within 1 month of each other; it is not covered under warranty; replacements cost $400 apiece. i feel the cost is prohibitive and unreasonable and should be included in a recall as it causes a safety hazard when driving. *tr

The driver side sun visor falls down during driving. there are tons of complaints from other nissan drivers who are having the same problem with the same and different year model. this is a serious safety hazard and should be the responsibility of nissan to recall and fix. i have nearly crashed dozens of times while driving because the visor falls down and blocks my view. *tr

Tl* - the contact has a 2006 nissan murano. the contact stated that in the midst of driving the windshield wipers would completely stop working until the following day. the contact stated that this was a design problem because the ice went down below the hood, and it stopped the windshield wipers from working. the ice prevented the windshield wipers from going all the way down and then come back up. the contact stated that the windshield wipers must be able to go all the way down in order for them to work properly. she would just like to have it fixed, because she did not want to be afraid to drive in a storm. the contact was told by the dealer that she should lift the hood and clean the area where the windshield wipers were. this happened once before in another storm, and she was able to get the windshield wipers going again. each time this happened the contact was in a bad storm. the failure and current mileage were both 4600 .*ak update *4/23/07 *tr

My wife was driving when the drivers side sun visor fell down imparing her vision. this caused her to scrape the passenger side rims on the curb. i believe it is now out of alignment. luckily no one was injured, but this could have caused a serious accident. i have read other complaints about this same issue. i believe the problem is not the visor it's self (although it is really heavy) but where it actually mounts to the ceiling. why nissan will not own up to this and correct the issue is beyond me? guess they don't really care cause the already got your money.

The passengers and drivers sun visors suddenly began falling down as the vehicle is driving and goes over any dip or minor bump in the road. the visor drops and blocks the drivers view of the road. the same occurs on the passenger side. the visors will not stay up in the closed position. this is apparently a defect in the 2006 muranos and nissan should recall the murano for this issue. *tr

Question first, how many complaints do you need to investigate a safety recall? i have a 2006 nissan murano with the driver side visor that won't stay up or when down won't say pushed against the window it just flops straight down. this causes a real safety hazard.. even when you push it to the side it causes vision problems. nissan needs to recall this or atleast not gouge people who need it replaced. it's not something you can ignore and fix later but at $500.00 it's robbery, i also had my window motor go out and it cost $500.00 which had to be fixed. i noticed multiple complaints about the visor would like an update on the investigation. *tr

Sun visor does not stay up. it will fall down obstructing view when unexpected, especially for taller drivers. seems to be very common issue on the internet with nissan vehicles. i've had other vehicles recalled due to safety related issues that seem to be far less of a likely problem than this one. they likely don't get replaced because of their expense. *tr

While operating the vehicle the sun visor drops down unexpectedly, completely obstructing the driver's view. this has occurred approximately four times since the first incident approximately four days ago. when this happens the driver's view of the road is completely obstructed and due to the sudden and unexpected nature of the sun visor dropping down this could easily cause an accident. it is very frightening when it happens. *tr

The driver side sun visor will no longer stay up. while you are driving it drops down into your eyeline impairing your visibility. they same thing happened to my passenger side but the vehicle was still under warranty so they covered it. i believe this is a defect and can be a danger. i have spoken with numerous other murano owners who are experiencing the same problem. nissan has no intention of fixing this problem. i guess they are waiting for more accidents to happen. *tr

I purchased a 2006 nisaan murano brand new. after doing a little research, i understand that my compliant has been documented numerous times, by many consumers and that an investigation by nhtsa has been completed and closed. with that said, a new investigation into the matters needs to occur and nissan needs to issue a recall. the visor on the driver's side continues to flop down, causing limited visability when driving. this impairs visibility when driving, which is a major safety concern and although it seems that the defect hasn't resulted in a casualty yet, it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured from this defect. next, the seat anchor bracket/frame on my driver's side seat is broken and has caused the seat to lean to the left considerably. the seat is unstable and rocks back and forth while driving, which again, is a safety concern. the investigation into this matter by nhtsa indicated that the problem results from metal fatigue. when in automobile history has this occurred? as i understand, it will cost over $1,000 to get this fixed. nissan needs to issue a recall and take responsiblity for its manufacturing defects. i hope they are not waiting until someone actually dies before they realize these defects are a major safety hazard.

I am having problems with the drivers side sun visor in my nissan murano. it will just drop down suddenly. at first i was able to pull the visor down and move it foward to help protect my eyes from the sun. but that didn't last long since it will just fall straight down and block my view. when it falls i can not see the cars in front of me. i am not a tall person but i would have to be extremely small to see under the visor when it falls in straight down position. the other day, i was driving on the freeway and my sun visor suddenly dropped straight down .it really startled me cause i lost visability. i screamed cause i could not see the cars in front of me like i mentioned earlier. as quickly as i could i lifted the visor and held it in place and continued by journey. it was pretty nerve wracking. i could have gotten into an accident and injured my passengers, myself and other drivers. and with traveling at high speed it's was an extremely dangerous situation. my dealer said the cost to repair would be around $500. i feel nissan should take responsibility for this and issue a recall but i haven't seen any yet. this sun visor issue is very dangerous to all of us out there on the road drivers and passengers.i hope something can be done about this. thank you for listening.

Driver's side visor dropped by itself from storage up position to almost completely block my view of the road while traveling in traffic. could not see where i was going for a few seconds until i ducked down to see the road. visor would not stay up or stay in any reasonable position such that it could be used for driving. since that original incident, has happened many times - checking with nissan yielded no satisfactory response. this is a serious safety issue, and based on reviewing online forums, is a pervasive problem for many, many nissan murano owners. as far as i can tell there has been no recall. additionally, other owners report that replacing the part is only a temporary fix. the problem has also now been occurring wit the passenger side visor.
