FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

When i went to change my brakes on our nissan pathfinder i saw that the entire frame was completely rusted out and full of holes, the gas tank and rear end have fallen down and are hanging on by the frame. this vehicle was used for the transportation of my family, and i was told by an engineer that we are very fortunate to be alive, and very fortunate that we did not kill any innocent people. there has to be a recall on this vehicle. what kind of country do we live in that puts the lives of its citizens in danger for a car company? i pray not this one, please act.

Tl* the contact owns a 1995 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated the fuel level indicator would not read fuel levels below half full. in addition, the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel and was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the dealer advised the fuel tank sensor would need to be replaced to correct the failure. there were no recalls on the vehicle and any repairs would be at the owners expense. the vehicle was not repaired and the failure persisted. the failure mileage was 28,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.

Vehicle stalled while driving. when this occurred consumer coasted the truck off the road. upon exiting the truck consumer noticed gasoline leaking out of the smog filter. truck was towed to a mechanic after the fire department had secured it for travel. mechanic indicated that one or two of the valves in the fuel system, and the fuel cap could be the cause. both valves, fuel cap, and the smog filter were replaced, but the failure recurred.*ak

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY

I have had to replace the gas tank on my 1995 nissan pathfinder 4 times in the past year. it was last replaced 1 month ago and is beginning to leak again. each time spot welds on the tank have been defective, resulting in a slow leak and build up of fumes under the gas tank. i am very concerned about the safety hazard this poses. *nlm

Undamaged and non-corroded fuel tank leaks from the bottom. 'dimple' where tank was stamped upon manufacture has small crack which slowly leaks fuel. must keep vehicle outside or garage door open or fumes build up over time. if left parked in one spot puddle forms under tank. dt

The fuel tank is cracked. the vehicle was never in an accident and was never off road. i called nissan and they agreed to pay for 1/2 the repair. this sounds like an inherent defect. the amount of fumes that accumulated in my garage was pretty extensive. could be a serious safety problem. please let me know if there are other reported cases. thanks.*ak
The gas tank has expanded from its normal size, and is now stressing the weld that seals the two sides together. dealer has been contacted. *ak
