Defect SummaryOn certain vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, iowa, illinois, indiana, kentucky, massachusetts, maine, maryland, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, tennessee, vermont, virginia, west virginia , wisconsin and the district of columbia, during the coating process of the fuel filler tube assembly, an insufficient amount of coating may have been applied at the lower mounting bracket. this could result in an opening in the coating which can allow water to enter and make contact with the bare metal of the tube.
Consequence SummaryThis may result in surface rust but not perforation of the tube. however, in those areas of the country which use heavy concentrations of road salt in the winter, if a mixture of snow/water and salt makes contact with the bare metal, corrosion may occur to a degree which results in perforation of the tube. in this case fuel leakage may occur when filling the tank. fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel filler tube assembly with a new one with an improved coating process. the recall began on november 26, 2007. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.

My vehicle has two recalls on it - first one is the gas neck recall and the second is the strut housing causing steering problems. i took my vehicle in on may 2nd, 2011 to bergstrom/nissan in oshkosh. they checked out my vehicle and said that my vehicle has the problems regarding both recalls. it is september 8th, 2011 and they still have my vehicle. they called me this morning and told me that they braced up the front. things should be good but that they took it for a drive and it is still all over the road. they also said that the part for the gas neck recall is on back order. they told me to come and pick up the vehicle. if they took it for a drive and it still is all over the road and there is still a problem with the steering - then i don't think it is safe and that they must not have done a good enough job fixing the problem. i don't want to drive an unsafe vehicle until they have corrected the problem.

Tl*the contact owns a 1998 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that she had the fuel filler tube in the vehicle replaced due to rust. most recently, she received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 07v435000 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly:filler pipe and cap) and is awaiting reimbursement from the manufacturer. while driving 25 mph, the brake line snapped and the vehicle was taken to the mechanic. the contact was informed that all the brake lines were rusted and bolted to the fuel lines, which were also rusted. in order for the mechanic to repair the brake lines, he would also have to repair the fuel lines at an estimated cost of $1,000. the contact spoke with the manufacturer and they stated that they would open a new file for her issue. the current and failure mileages were approximately 78,000.

I recently received a recall on my nissan for the fuel filler tube. i had this replaced in sept. i called nissan and they said because i didn't have it fixed at a nissan dealer that i have to bring it to the dealer to make sure it was done properly. the woman said i wouldn't be reimbursed for that, which i think is totally wrong. i already spent money on having it repaired. *tr

Nissan pathfinder recall 07v-435 r0705 fuel filler tube and fuel leakage. in january while driving from colorado through wyoming our car started puttering and died on busy route 80 in coopers cove outside of laramie, wy at 9:30 pm in a major snow storm. roads were covered in rock salt and we were lucky to pull over to shoulder where we remained for 2 hours. my 2 daughters were there, one of whom had no coat as we did not expect to be heading north. temperature was -27. we were pretrified and i kept the light on in car so trucks could see us. two hours later the police arrived and we were towed 40 miles to a nissan dealer. our car remained there for 3 days. now i know why we were put in harms way. we were lucky to pull over as the road conditions definitely affected the car dying. i have the bill from mccarty nissan and the motels. i hope that we will be sufficiently reimbursed and that this does not happen to others. it was the most frightening experience for my family but thank god we were safe. my daughter became ill from the -27 degree weather and our motel room which had no heat and had to cut her trip short and return home early leaving from the colorado springs airport when our vehicle was repaired. reimbursement for our repairs and inconvenience would be appreciated. *tr updated 05/13/09.*jb
