Since day one, randomly, when i turn the key, the engine appears to have started, but in fact, has not. this usually happens after i have been driving for a while, then park, shut the engine off for a time and when i get back in the car, then turn the key to start. i have complained to two dealers as well as nissan corportate with no satisfaction. the problem still exists four years after purchase (purchase date 2/99). the danger is that if i think the engine is running and i move the shift, the car can roll if on an incline which can be dangerous. i have also reported this problem to dot with no satisfaction. h e l p.

Tl - the contact owns 1999 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated the vehicle over heated, while driving 30 miles per hour. the vehicle was towed to the dealer, for failure diagnostic. the diagnoses was coolant was low, and water pump was not working the dealer also stated corrosion formed in the ds strut tower base, making the vehicle unsafe to drive. the dealer stated the vehicle does not qualify, for recall under nhtsa campaign number 07435000. the contact stated the vehicle was repaired, at a local shop, however still does not feel safe in the vehicle. the failure mileage was 130,00, and the current mileage was 140,000. rds

We were towing our 18ft boat up a hill near a lake in san diego when we experienced complete engine/power/brake failure on a hill with no guard rail. the weight of the boat pulled us backward out of control until we jacknifed to the left into the side of the hill which held us in place until the park rangers towed us out. if we had jacknifed to the right, our entire family would have been pulled over the edge of the hill and down a cliff. all brake systems failed (foot and emergency) and the engine could not pull the weight of the trailer/boat. the trailer/boat were well within the manufactuer's guidlines for towing capacity of 3,500 lbs.

Emissions control solenoids/valve failure have plagued the vehicle for the past 4,000 miles. as testimony to precision manufacturing skill, they all fail at the same time, i.e., not long after the federal warranty on emissions parts expires. the vacuum cut-valve bypass valve (a solenoid), the emissions canister cut-valve, and the emissions canister vent all failed at a cost of $300 in parts alone. *jb

My service engine soon light came on after i filled it up with gas. was told it was an oxygen sensor problem and then the code was cleared. light came on again and it can't be seen at dealer for another week. a few months ago i had to get the transmission replaced and the rear and front shocks replaced and the car is only 3 years old. the company says that that happens sometimes. *nlm

Thank you for looking into this matter. while this is not life threatening, it is indee an expensive nuisance that the dealer feels i should keep paying for. my truck is not old enough to have to replace an oxygen sensor 3 times in 2 years. *ak |
