Defect SummaryOn certain vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, iowa, illinois, indiana, kentucky, massachusetts, maine, maryland, michigan, minnesota, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, tennessee, vermont, virginia, west virginia , wisconsin and the district of columbia, during the coating process of the fuel filler tube assembly, an insufficient amount of coating may have been applied at the lower mounting bracket. this could result in an opening in the coating which can allow water to enter and make contact with the bare metal of the tube.
Consequence SummaryThis may result in surface rust but not perforation of the tube. however, in those areas of the country which use heavy concentrations of road salt in the winter, if a mixture of snow/water and salt makes contact with the bare metal, corrosion may occur to a degree which results in perforation of the tube. in this case fuel leakage may occur when filling the tank. fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the fuel filler tube assembly with a new one with an improved coating process. the recall began on november 26, 2007. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
NotesCustomers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Gasoline filler pipe perforation leading to fuel loss when filled and fumes consistently - significant health hazard from fumes and fire/explosion danger.... date and mileage required to complete this form is estimate... nissan refuses to complete recall work as vehicle is no longer in salt state...code put in by initial technician was for non-salt state...technician was unaware that the vehicle was originally sold in and was in salt state for four years prior to moving to non-salt state.

A strong odor of gasoline is present after filling up and lasts until the tank is approximately 3/4 full. this problem began 2 weeks ago. it occurs every time the tank is filled. the problem has not been corrected. the nhtsa website indicated that a recall was issued in 2007 for this problem. the manufacturer's report date is 9-12-07. the vehicle is a 2001 nissan pathfinder and was originally sold in new york. i am the second owner and purchased the vehicle in 2004 in north carolina. consequences of the defect are possible gasoline fire and total destruction of the vehicle and death of all passengers. the vehicle is parked and will not be diven until the dealer honors the recall. so far all conversations with the dealer and nissan have been fruitless, and both parties declare the vehicle has no outstanding recalls and they will not honor the nhtsa recall because they have no record of any such recall. when i pushed them with the information on the nhtsa id number for the recall, their response was the nhtsa does not own nissan. the nhtsa id number is 07v435000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2001 nissan pathfinder. in 2007, the contact received a recall notice for the fuel system, gasoline towards the end of april. he called the dealer to schedule an appointment for the recall repair and they stated that he would need to bring the vehicle in for inspection. afterwards, depending on the diagnostic results, they would determine whether or not the components needed to be replaced. the recall notice stated that the component would be replaced no matter what; therefore, the contact believed that the dealer should replace the defected item regardless of the diagnostic results. there had been no failure to date. the recall number was unknown. the current mileage was approximately 77,000.

When fueling, gas tank over fills and spills gasoline onto side of vehicle and ground. this is serious potential fire hazard automatic fuel shut off not properly working. if fuel shut off works, gas gauge shows. gas amount to be slightly above 3/4 full. when attempting to fully fuel tank to have gas gauge show f then gasoline will over flow. only recourse now is to drive with 3/4 tank full in order to prevent fuel spills. took it to dealer. dealer indicated this is normal for frontiers and nothing is wrong. dt

Gasoline has been leaking from the gas tube on my 2001 nissan pathfinder for two years. i contacted the dealer several months ago and asked them about the recall. they knew nothing about it. i then notified them of the recall and directed to the website. i'm tired of the smell of gasoline, gas on my driveway and lawn and polluting my lake. i want to know when i will receive a recall notice and repair. we have waited long enough for nissan to act and ignore the nhtsa recall and ignore potential hazards to nissan vehicle owners. *tr

On september 12,2007 nissan posted a recall on 2001 nissan pathfinders. my vehicle which should be part of the recall was denied by nissan because my vehicles vin#s were not part of their recall. i beg to differ. i purchased my vehicle in june 06 in lou,ky. the recall states that if they are currently registered in certain states and ky is one of those then i'm entitled to the recall. i have contacted nissan and they denied my request. i do not know what will happen to the fuel tube or if by chance it will cause a fire or some serious injury to myself or others. i know i'm being mistreated by nissan and i would like this to be corrected if possible. i want nissan to own up to its recall and take care of business. after all they recalled the vehicle.*cn
