Defect SummaryNissan is recalling certain model year 2004-2006 armada, titan, infiniti qx56 and model year 2005-2006 frontier, pathfinder and xterra vehicles. the intelligent power distribution module (ipdm) assembly contains an engine control module (ecm) relay that has a diode for electrical current noise reduction. the ecm relay may allow silicon vapor to form and, over time, the silicon evaporates from the diode molding which causes silicon oxide to develop on the ecm relay contact due to arcing.
Consequence SummaryThis could cause engine stalling increasing the risk of a crash.
Corrective SummaryDealers will replace the ecm relay inside the ipdm assembly. this service will be performed free of charge. the safety recall is expected to begin during december 2010. owners may contact nissan at 1-800-647-7261.
NotesOwners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov .

Noticed my truck hesitating at about 40mph took in to have checked and was told the transmission and radiator were both failing due to a broken line between the two which caused the fluids from the two parts to mix and cause the failure. then the good news haha the cost would be $6,000.00. i then came to read that this is a problem for many and it should have been a recall by the nissan corp.

2005 nissan pathfinder. consumer writes in regards to defective radiator in vehicle. *smd the consumer stated he sent nissan a letter regarding his concerns about radiator coolant leaking into the transmission. nissan responded by saying they would not cover any repairs until the leaked developed. *jb

While driving the pathfinder at 45mhp it started to shake and slowed down even while pressing gas pedal down... felt like the brakes were on.. after getting the vehicle home i discovered the problem with the transmission and radiator. it seems to be a common problem that nissan is aware of... if we were on the interstate at high speeds it could of been a serious accident. *tr

On 11/15/11 nissan flushed the radiator. on 7/11/12 the transmission went out due to the coolant leaking into the transmission. nissan should have 100% responsibility of this issue. nissan has know about this issue for years and they extend the warranties to the max of 100,000 miles. most of these issues occur after 100,000 miles. nissan needs to reimburse and or recall all 2005-2010 pathfinder's, xterra's and frontier's as this can be a safety issue when you are driving at high speeds and the transmission fails. my wife almost got rearended because this issue. i want to be reimbursed of the repairs that were done on my vehicle. *tr

Transmission failed. sent to nissan dealership and put me to another transmission place. the transmission was redone again. after that transmission failed again and the mech. noticed the mixing of radiator fluid in the transmission fluid. then i contacted nissan and nissan corp. they both pushed me aside saying that they could do anything do to the mileage. i increased the urgency to nissan corp. i am in the military with no car for my wife. i have expended over 5 k already and now needing to do more. *tr

Around 95000 miles the transmission began very abrupt jerking when accelerating. around may 2011 transmission began slipping, i googled the problem and discovered many people had the same problem due to radiator cracked. i looked into my radiator and discovered strawberry looking fluid . replaced my radiator , an flushed it a few times and then flushed my transmission which had the same color fluids, i believe nissan was aware of these faulty radiators and transmission and drag it out through court so people would loose their opportunity to use their warranty. i am currently trying to get nissan to replace my faulty transmission and i am willing to pay a $3000.00 fee but so far they are reluctant. any suggestions you may have would be appreciated. *tr

Well my pathfinder was working great and i never had any problem with it then one day i'm driving it to work and it just stop i kept accelerating and it wouldn't move. a friend of mine came and looked at it and told me on the spot you radiator busted and filled your transmission with coolant and that destroyed your transmission and destroy it did. my friend to told me funny thing is that could have been prevented by installing an external cooling which he would have done for 100 bucks if only had nissan let me know that the 2005 pathfinders had this issue. oh well i feel cheated and i swore in my life i will have a nissan car again or acura for that matter nor anyone in my family. this one i'm stuck with but once guaranteed that the mechanic gave it's about to expire i'm selling it and i'm definitely not buying nissan again! ever! *tr

This complaint is regarding a 2005 nissan pathfinder. it is common to this model and involves the intermingling of coolant and transmission fluid due to the faulty design involving these systems. the result is ruination of both the automatic transmission and the radiator, in addition to various associated components. please, compel nissan to issue a fully-covered recall on this defect. it is an obvious design flaw and the fact that the consumer is currently forced to bear the significant burden of the substantial related repairs is absolutely ridiculous. *tr

I was leaving a restaurant parking lot with my wife and kids. i pulled to the parking lot exit and turned right onto the 4-lane boulevard. i tried to accelerate to traffic speed in the near lane but the motor simply raced and would not propel the vehicle. as traffic caught me i heard tires squealing and horns blowing from the vehicles behind me. the traffic worked around me while i shifted the transmission into park and then back into drive and began to move at idle speed. as traffic allowed i worked over into the left lane and then the turning lane while gradually accelerating to driving speed, merged back into traffic and proceeded home, careful to avoid any stop lights in busy traffic. we are fortunate that we were not involved in an accident. i'm no expert, but i do know that a vehicle that suddenly won't propel itself in traffic is as dangerous as one with no brakes. this was the one and only time that we experienced this problem. there was no previous indication that anything was wrong. i took the car to the nissan dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a transmission coolant line failure which allowed transmission fluid and engine coolant to intermix in the radiator, engine block and transmission, which in turn caused the transmission to slip. i'm sure nhtsa has received many complaints about this problem. i'm hearing many of the same complaints just in my area and likely there are others that have not yet been reported. hopefully no one will have to die or suffer serious injury because of this unsafe condition before a recall will be issued. *tr

Driving vehicle and suddenly lurched forward and wouldn't drive. taken to shop and said defect in radiator allowed coolant into transmission ruining both components. this is a known complaint which nissan fails to address. they uped their warranty when problem was seen but mostly happens outside of the warranty. i spoke with a customer service rep and she said there was nothing they could do even though they are aware of the problem. *tr

Radiator and transmission fluid mixed. internal radiator failure caused damage to transmission. causing loss of power when driving. nissan is aware of this problem and refuses to step up to the plate. it is a defective radiator and it can become very dangerous if it happens on a very busy interstate. i have chosen to let my vehicle set. i don't want to cause a fatality to myself or my family. please help not to let nissan get by with this. *tr

On two separate occasions, i cannot remember the date of the first incident. my 2005 nissan pathfinder stalled and would not accelerate. my family was in the vehicle and we were leaving a place of business, which was kind of on a hill and when i tried to accelerate the vehicle would not move, but started to go backward. i cut the vehicle off and tried again and we were off and going, until we were on the road and in traffic going about 45mph the vehicle started to stall, and we had to get ourselves out of traffic. i gt the vehicle going again and everything seemed to go fine for about 2 weeks, then on sept 15 i woke early to take a family member to a weekend class, as i was driving down my street i heard a noise coming from the 2005 pathfinder i rolled my window down to hear the sound as i was listening the sound went away and all of a sudden i was approaching the traffic light the vehicle began to stall, i was pushing on the gas and it would not go, the light was green and i had cars behind me. i had to turn my hazard lights on and try to get myself out of the middle of the road to safety, once i did i had to park my vehicle in a business parking lot at a shopping center that is close to my home. at this point my vehicle is parked due to the fact that it will not accelerate when put in drive. i have talked to nissan dealership and they have advised that they have heard of the radiator/transmission fluid mix and this seems to be the case with my 2005 nissan pathfinder, and that it is costly to get it repaired. the cost is ultimately left up to me, and i feel as if this is a nissan issue that has been an ongoing issue for quite some time for some other nissan customers that needs to be considered a recall and nissan should be fixing this manufacturing problem. *tr

Coolant mixing in the transmission system. some issues with slipping at first, mechanics couldn't figure it out. said they would have to take apart the transmission to figure it out since there were no codes being tripped. then the slip got worse and they happened to discover how bad the fluid looked by the u-joint underneath the car. it was only then that they discovered that the problem could have been related to the radiator coolant leak. they proceeded to fix the radiator and related components and flushed the system several times ($726.81) only 2 months later the transmission was acting up again and almost failed on the freeway, stuttering the engine and smoking a bit. fortunately, we where able to limp the vehicle home and get it to the mechanic the next day. vehicle was at the shop for 3 weeks, then the mechanic thought he had it fixed. we drove the car about 5 miles down the road, the vehicle started to stutter and slip again and the check engine light came on again. we returned the vehicle to the shop, they checked the codes and determined that the transmission would need to be replaced. this is ridiculous...... when you pay this much money for a vehicle, there is no reason why a transmission should fail in 94,000 miles. i can't believe all the horror stories i have read on the internet related to this nissan transmission issue. i feel a sick to my stomach right now just thinking about the financial impact that this has and will cause to my family. there is absolutely no reason that nissan shouldn't be responsible for this catastrophe. especially after they have identified that this is a known issue. *tr

The vehicle experienced loss of power while driving at 60mph in the freeway. after a few similar incidents i took the vehicle to the dealer for a recall that described a similar issue, a relay was changed.. the vehicle continue experiencing the jerking until a few weeks ago that it look like transmission fluid leaked in the driveway. i took the vehicle to the nearest shop for a check up. apparently coolant was leaked into the transmission. we took the vehicle to nissan we the hoped that they would honor a warranty extension, they asked as to pay for a test to confirm what we already new. we were told that we needed to contact nissan's 800 number corporate office cause there was a chance that they might want to extend the warranty. i understand that they extended the transmission warranty to 80k due to this common issue. they totally denied the extension cause my vehicle had 107,000 miles. thanks god that we have not had an accident as a result of this issue. now we have to incur the expensive cost of replacing the radiator and transmission. this factory defect should be paid by nissan and we need an investigation into this common issue. please let's not wait until a fatality occurs for your organization to initiate it. *tr

Coolant leaking into transmission. well-known nissan issue. vehicle started rumbling intermittently going between 4th and 5th gear around 40 and 60 mph. the rumbling will last between 2 and 5 seconds until the accelerator is depressed hard enough to force the vehicle to downshift which results in a loud banging noise and a jerk. also noticed what looks like curdled milk all around the radiator cap. i have an appointment with the dealership, nissan of saco, on 08/28/2012 and am almost certain they will try and get out of covering this under the lifetime powertrain warranty. *tr

I was driving my 2005 nissan pathfinder on august 11th, 2012 with my entire family inside the vehicle. we were rolling in traffic at about 40 to45 mph when the vehicle all of a sudden stopped accelerating. i was able to safely pull over to the side of the road. while inside the vehicle trying to figure out what was going on, a passerby told me he saw a fire under the vehicle. i immediately got my family out and called 911 to have the fire department come out and look at it. by the time the fire department got on scene, the fire had died out. i had my vehicle towed to a transmission shop because a fireman suggested it was an issue with my transmission. the repair shop told me a cooler under the radiator busted causing coolant to get inside my transmission, which caused transmission fluid to get on my catalytic converter which started the fire. they quoted me $4900 in repairs, telling me i needed to have my transmission and radiator replaced. i am extremely upset because for one, my entire family could have been killed or injured including myself, my wife, and 3 sons ages 3 9 & 13. secondly, i've only had the car for 5 and half months at the time and still making payments on it. in fact, i owe just about $1000 more on the loan for the vehicle verses the cost of repairs. so now i am left with no vehicle, no way to take my kids to school, and the ugly fact that i am not the only person who has experienced the same issue with this vehicle. after a little research via the internet, it looks like this is a normal occurrence with this model. in closing, i am just looking for any sort of help i can get to help give me and my family some relief of this tragic and dangerous situation. things could have ended up much worse and i really feel this vehicle presents a safety hazard to our roadways. *tr

My 2005 pathfinder was running fine until it started developing a case of thermostat fluctuation; it would almost go into the red and then drop all the way back down to the normal level. i took it to precision tune and they replaced the radiator hose assembly. a few weeks after that, the tranny started slipping. as i had already read from other consumers, i knew what was happening to my truck, and because the truck already had 120k + miles on it, i knew what nissan would likely say. sure enough, one afternoon, i got in the truck and it wouldn't accelerate forward. i immediately had it towed to nissan in april and began the fight to get it fixed; they quoted me $5100 to replace the tranny and radiator due to coolant leaking into the transmission case and transmission fluid leaking into the radiator. i contacted their consumer affairs, and not only did they tell me they wouldn't cover it, but referred me to the bbb (a very brazen move in my mind, to have a company refer you to them about them). they already knew the bbb wouldn't help because it was outside of the warranty. nearly four months later, it still sits at the dealer, because i can't afford to pay the repair cost (i still owe for two years on the vehicle), and nissan refuses to fix it, although they know the problem exists. someone has to die, i guess, before they pull their vehicles off the road and fix the problem. *tr

In 2009, at 74,000 miles, i noticed the car bucking when driving. started doing research and found that the radiator coolant leaks into the transmission cooler destroying the transmission. nissan offered no help or recalls despite the fact that hundreds of the same vehicle were experiencing the same thing. shortly after my vehicle passed 80,000 miles, nissan issued a recall on only the radiator which doesn't help me. i immediately flushed the transmission and radiator to try to avoid complete failure of the transmission, bypassing the transmission cooler part of the radiator. the vehicle drove but the transmission constantly slipped in and out of gear at random times throughout the next 30,000 miles. last week, the transmission finally quit in the middle of a busy intersection. i had to push the car into the nearest parking lot. now the car is sitting in my driveway because it will cost me $6,000 to repair the transmission and radiator. nissan needs to step up and admit that this should be a recall. i love nissans (this is my 3rd) but after this problem i may never buy another one. *tr

I began to have trouble when attempting to accelerate, the car appeared to stay in low gear. took it to nissan they recommended to replace the radiator and transmission for $5,000! i bought this car on good faith knowing nissan is a quality product and this is now happening. nissan apparently knows about the issues with a leak starting in the radiator, and leaking fluids into the transmission, which causes the transmission to go out. nissan extended the warranty on the radiator till 80,000 miles knowing about this problem, but after doing research everyone having the problem is over 80,000 miles! nissan will not do a recall! this is unbelievable. i paid very good money for this car, and now have to spend another $5,000 to repair, with a known problem that nissan will not cover. i will never purchase another nissan vehicle, since they do not apparently care about their customers.

My wife noticed acceleration decreasing and then when she change the gear to drive the car didn't move. then, it finally went into drive. we took it to dealership and they stated the radiator and transmission will have to be replaced due to radiator fluid leaking into the transmission. we heard about this issue happening frequently with other nissan pathfinders. therefore, we contacted 1-800-nissan1 to see if we could get some kind of help. i talked to a representative named rhonda from a company that creates a case with the hope that nissan will cover the costs. after two and half weeks a decision was made not to cover the cost of repair due to the car was bought used and it is over the 80,000 mile extended warranty. if it is a defect, isn't the manufacturer responsible. this is not caused by the consumer and is not wear and tear. i have a nissan altima with over 230,000 miles and the transmission is still producing. i loved nissan cars up until this very moment. i have been researching to purchase another nissan, but after this my mind has changed.

Transmission gave out on me while traveling with family on highway. the problem was due to faulty parts nissan has placed on the pathfinder. my finding to the problems not only included transmissions problems not covered under warranty but also other defects in which they are unwilling to pay for. i hope it doesn't take for someone to die for them to get this is a serious problem. americans are in danger due to this company and it's cars!

Tuesday morning after dropping my children off at school, i had just made a left hand turn through an intersection in heavy traffic. i was traveling approx. 45 mph when bam!....my car all but stalled and would not accelerate. the car behind me almost hit me, i could barely get the car to steer and had trouble getting enough juice to pull it over safely to the side of the road. after much research, i see that nissan radiators are defective; they rupture and allow the coolant to spill over into the coolant system in transmission, contaminating both and ruining both radiator and transmission. there are countless stories of people stalling in traffic or completely losing enough acceleration power in a very abrupt manner that someone is going to get very hurt, if not die. what if my kids had been in the car with me? what if we would have been in heavier traffic in different circumstances? the thought of this makes me sick to my stomach. i was very lucky not to have been hurt or hurt someone else after what happened. nissan and you all need to acknowledge that a real safety risk exists here. a recall must be done! sickens me to think of those who will eventually lose their lives. how can going from a full functioning speed to no speed at all in the most abrupt, nerve-jarring manner possible in heavy traffic and not being able to maneuver your vehicle not be a safety issue? please explain this to me. oh, and as if it isn't enough that nissan obviously has no regard for their consumer's saftey, they are limiting the warranties in such an unrealistic manner that the consumer is forced to foot $6,000-$8,000 to fix the issue that they clearly knew about and could have prevented from the get-go.

The transmission is starting to slip. sometimes when i'm coming to a stop i'll jump forward. the dealer said the radiator and transmission needs to be replaced. why would do radiator affect a transmission. nissan know there is a problem with the transmission and a radiator leak inside transmission. they should recall and fix this problem. the estimate i got to repair is $5200 dollars.

Noticed that fuel and oil pressure gauges would not register fuel or oil levels correctly, the miles till empty will not work. we have no idea when we are going to run out of fuel, started getting worse, than notice the check engine light came on, had vehicle diagnose, turned out that both the fuel and oil pressure sending units needed to be replaced, there are numerous pathfinders with the same problem but there are no recalls on these issues. this repair is very costly and is dangerous to be driving without the fuel and oil sending units. why are there no recalls? please help!

We had to replace the ipdm in november 2010, the truck stopped running in middle of the road, we had 118,000 miles on vehicle. in july 2011, we were on vacation in indiana and on our way to see family in ohio. we were on the interstate and the vehicle would not excellerate over 40 - 45 mph., we stopped at an autozone to test the vehicle to see what the problem was and it cleared it. since that time, the engine light would periodically come on. on september 15, 2011, the truck would not start. the truck is still at the mechanic to be repaired, we were advised the problem is the radiator leaking into the transmission causing transmission to fail. cost is $6,000 to repair and truck has 127,000 miles on it. this is a consistant complaint of owners of this vehicle, however, nissan does not want to do anything to correct the problem. this is my first and last nissan.

I received, in the mail, a warranty notification from nissan north america headquarters, consumer affairs department, franklin, tn. basically, it reads: nissan has extended your vehicle's new vehicle limited warranty as it applies to the radiator assembly to 96 months/80,000 miles (whichever comes first)...nissan north america wbi/10-029. when my husband, scott, contacted our local nissan dealerships service department, he was informed that the component would have to fail before they could do anything about it. according to other nhtsa complaints from nissan pathfinder owners who have had the component fail, it sometimes causes transmission failure and loss of vehicle control (lack of engine power throughput to provide mobility). if the component were to fail it seems that it would create a safety issue under some conditions (on highways where it is not convenient to pull over). some pathfinder owners have claimed that it can cost thousands of dollars to replace the transmission, and that nissan sometimes does not cover repairs beyond the radiator, despite that problem can leak coolant into the transmission, sometimes causing serious damage to, or failure of the transmission. nissan should know about this problem and offer owners of possibly effected vehicles a free test to determine if their vehicle does, indeed have a defective radiator assembly. if a test is not available, then the radiator assemblies on these vehicles should be repaired of replaces as necessary to ensure that they will not fail under normal conditions and mileage. furthermore, if a radiator assembler were to cause a transmission to need repair or replacement, nissan should cover associated transmission correction costs. because of this problem, we (my husband and i) no longer driver our pathfinder on long trips, and have lost faith in our vehicle and nissan.

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder and have been doing all the required maintenance on it in a very timely manner. it is a very well maintained suv and had only 49,997 miles on it. i got a safety recall notice on it for the ecm relay issued and took it to the dealer. i was also experiencing some whining noises. the service dealer advisor at the dealership told me that my timing chains had a problem and needed to be replaced. he said this was a serious issue and could lead to engine damage and is a potential road hazard. he also said it needed to be fixed immediately, as this was a known problem, that had been experienced by a number of other customers and that nissan motor co. had issued a service bulletin ntb09-128 regarding this problem. i am really surprised that nissan did not think it was necessary to communicate this piece of important information to all its customers. my son who is 21 years old drives this suv on ski trips and i am really alarmed that this defect which was known to nissan could have lead to some serious road hazards. nissan has acted in a very callous manner because they did not inform their customers about the possibility of such a serious issue which can lead to road hazards. they did not issue a safety recall to fix the issue. i request you to kindly investigate this issue and ensure that nissan communicates this serious flaw to all owners of 2006 nissan pathfinders and any other model which has the same issue.

Bought a nissan pathfinder se 2005... it has over 70,000 miles on it now. i was driving it down the highway, with my husband and 12 month old baby girl, surrounded in wall to wall rush hour traffic and road construction. the nissan started making a grinding noise then started slipping 4th gear. suddenly without any notice 4th gear was completely out. i had to stop the car, put it in 3rd gear manually and drive before getting rear ended. miraculously it drove in 3rd gear so we took it to the nissan dealership who explained to us that the problem with the radiator. the radiator was causing coolant to leak into the transmission, mixing with the transmission oil and destroying our transmission. he knew this problem well since he's fixed them many times. we checked on the internet and found countless more individual such as ourselves experiencing the same problem. the mechanic also explained the new pathfinders are not using these faulty radiators, so nissan knows there is a problem. to fix the transmisson using a used one will be $4,000. thats including the used transmission, labor, shipping costs, tax, and fluids. i understand that things break and wear out, but if a company says that you should buy there vehical because they will stand behind it, and that they believe that they have a quality product that you can count on, then they should do as they say and stand behind there nissan. we are one car short with not much money to pay for such a expensive repair. a recall is the right thing to do, i don't think someone has to die before someone somewhere stands up to make something happens. our family have already suffered a loss due to a suv malfunction. at least toyota admits their faults and takes care of the problems. nissan have lost all credibility with our side of the family and friends.

I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder. in august of 2009, when the vehicle was 4 years old, it started stalling randomly every 15-30 miles. eventually, after several trips to the dealership, it was determined that the ipdm module was defective, and was replaced. this took care of the problem. i talked to the dealership and nissan, and was told this only affected my vehicle. however, a recall was just issued for this problem. this is an extremely dangerous problem. the first time it happened to us, i was driving back home with my family from a camping trip in big bear, california. our vehicle was fully loaded down with passengers and camping gear on a large downhill grade when it stalled. since the power brakes went out, it took a long time to get the vehicle to stop by holding the brakes and the emergency brake, and finally coming to a portion of the road that was no longer downhill. if this happens in the wrong place, this failure could cause a crash, serious injury, or death. also, when the problem occurs when you are driving, the vehicle cannot be restarted while rolling by placing the vehicle in neutral and turning the key for the starter. the key must be fully turned to the off position for a few seconds, and then back on. once the key is off, the steering wheel locks, so you probably won't be able to restart it when rolling. please make sure nissan corrects all of the vehicles that are affected!!!!!!!

Several months ago, the pathfinder started to pulsate while gaining speed...dealer performed trans service, fixed problem for a few days. pathfinder started pulsating again, even worse. dealer advised torque converter was bad..second opinion mechanic advised radiator leaked into trans, and trans fluid leaked into coolant. coolant destroyed transmission. learned this has been a ongoing problem with pathfinders for years, there is a weld inside the radiator that fails and the two liquids transfers. why would the company design a radiator that has two liquids inside that can contaminate each other.

I was experiencing a shutter in my transmission while driving. this is a safety hazard because the transmission could bind while riding. this had been going on nearly 9 months until it broke while at the transmission shop and we had to get it towed because we couldn't afford to buy a transmission at the time. we were told that the radiator was defective and coolant leaked into the transmission which ruined the transmission.

I bought my 2005 nissan pathfinder new from the dealer. at about 70,000 miles i started having transmission problems and was told that nissan had a severe problem with the radiator leaking into the transmission and ruining it. i had to replace the transmission and the radiator at a cost of about $3,000. i believe that nissan should have had a recall since this problem is so widely documented. i have also had to have the power module, the thermostat , the sunvisor, and the hydraulic lifts for the back hatch all replaced with the car still under 80,000 miles. needless to say, i won't be looking for a nissan product when i shop for my next car. *tr

My 2005 nissan pathfinder with 67k miles developed a shudder at 40 mph and 60 mph, approximately when the car was shifting from 3rd into 4th gear and from 4th into 5th gear. took it to the dealer and was told that the transmission cooler (part of the radiator system) had leaked coolant into the transmission, ruining the transmission, and that both would need to be replaced, at a cost of approximately $5700. the vehicle is one month short of five years old, but is 7k miles past the warranty expiration and has been problem-free up to this point. after doing some research online, i found hundreds of similar complaints, along with reports that nissan was refusing to pay for repairs to the transmission because the root problem was with the radiator. this is a well-documented problem online; why is nissan refusing to do a recall? you'd think they'd want to avoid the pr disaster toyota is currently enduring ... *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder. fuel gauge reads zero, half tank or somewhere in-between when the tank is full. service engine light comes on and will not go out unless the fuel gauge starts reading correctly (which it sometimes does). this is a known problem. nissan has even come out with a service bulletin ntb07-069a that addresses the problem. the problem that i have is that this has happened to several people, and the repair bill for a vehicle that is out of warranty is between $400 and $600. i believe that this could be considered a safety issue and a recall should be issued if people are running out of gas due to incorrect or non-existent fuel level readings. *tr

My 2005 nissan pathfinder was losing speed especially when passing vehicles on the highway, the 2005 nissan pathfinder would not go into reverse. i noticed that the car was not running properly for over 3 weeks. i took the pathfinder to a transmission expert and they did diagnostic tests and the expert said that the radiator had a hole in it and radiator fluid went into the transmission and the transmission was gone. he showed me the transmission stick that showed me that radiator fluid mixed in with the transmision fluid. the transmission expert said that they have seen a number of nissan pathfinders with the same problem. a week later, i took my 2005 nissan pathfinder to another transmission expert for a second opinion, this expert did the diagnostics and confirmed that the radiator had a hole in it that allowed for radiator fluid to go into the transmission. he also stated that they have seen a number of 2005 nissan pathfinders with the same problem and he recommended that i go to a nissan dealership to see what they say. i went sheehy nissan in glen burnie, md in which they did a diagnostic test and found that coolant mixing with the trans fluid causing improper shifting. the recommendations were to replace the trans assembly, radiator, and trans cooler. the service manager told me that nissan had an extended warranty on the radiator for 80, 000 miles or up to 2013. i had 85,000 miles on my 2005 nissan pathfinder. i called nissan usa and told them the problem and faxed the diagnostic invoice to them. two weeks later they told me that they would pay for the parts and i would have to pay for the labor. luckily, my insurance company paid for the radiator, trans, and trans cooler. nissan has known about this problem for and refuses to do a recall on the radiator and this is unacceptable! this affects 2005-2007 nissan pathfinders and this is a safety hazard if the vehicle trans stalls or shuts off while driving on highways and roads. a recall is needed!

Since april 2011 my 2005 nissan pathfinder started to wraddling and vibration under the vehicle. after having it check by a machanic in may 2011 he stated that the transmission and coolant is missing together. the fluid was changed on june 26, 2011, that came out looking like chocolate milk and it is still vibrating at 45 and 64 mils per hour. i under stand that this is a manufactor problem for the way it was design and should be fixed by the car dealers and not the consumer.... the slenoid in the transmission jumps offline and once the vehicle is turned off and back on it resets and the vibration continue as you drive...the changing of the transmission fluid did not help the problem..,

Radiator leaks into transmission causing transmission to mess up. nissan is aware of the issue and told me it happens on higher mileage pathfinder but they only extended the warranty to 80,000 miles. i researched the 2005 nissan pathfinder and found that this is an ongoing problem that occurs with this year and model. i feel there should be a recall on this problem and nissan should be held accountable.

I am filing this complaint since nissan does not do anything with the problem to be fixed, i have a 2005 nissan pathfinder, when were on the road our car is having trouble shifting starts jerking, and were so scared that will not make it home because the way its acting we finally made it home and the ca would not reverse we look online and search what' causing the problem and read a bunch of complaint with the consumer at automotive.com stating that the reson for the problem is the radiator fluid leaked into the transmission that causing the transmission to burn, called around with a bunch of auto mechanic and when i mention that i need my transmission replace the mechanic immediately said you know you need your radiator replace because that is causing your transmission problem i filed a complaint with nissan and denied the complaint this should be in the recall because this is dangerous if you werent aware of the problem if your on the road hope you can help us with this problem

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder. nissan extended thier warranties on the 2005 pathfinders to 80,000. the reason they did this is because they know thier defective radiators have been causing transmissions to go out due to contamination from the radiator fluid. since i was deployed, i was unaware of the extention or the problem until my transmission started giving me problems in may of 2011. the other day, i tried to pull out of a gas station and i lost all accelleration due to the transmission slipping almost causing a serious accident. i have a nissan complaint ticket but unless it is forced into recall, i will have to pay for my new transmission on a car i just recently paid off. as a consumer, i should not have to pay for someone elses design defect that causes major mechanical cost and safety issues. after doing some research, most customers are being told to come and have the transmission flushed for approx. 500$ to be told the transmission needs replacement. this defect needs to be addressed immediately before someone dies as a result of nissans negligence in standing behind thier product.

Nissan manufactured the 2005 nissan pathfinder with a faulty radiator that leaks radiator fluid into the transmission causing the irrepairable damage to the transmission. the car experiences vibration (which has loosened bolts & other parts on the undercarriage) along with shifting problems & hesitation when accelerating. nissan extended the warranty to 8 years, 80,000 miles but the problem usual occurs at high mileage. my car has 104,000 miles & they will not cover the cost of replacing the radiator (or transmission). i only received a letter from nissan a few months ago stating there may be a radiator leakage problem but did not advise of the problem with leaking into the transmission nor did it state symptoms to watch for. i have been experiencing symptoms but did not know it was related to this issue until i went online and found several complaints by other pathfinder owners. i bought my car to the dealer and they advised that it was a different issue and then an hour later they advised it was the radiator issue. since i am over the 80,000 miles, they will not pay for replacement. i have contacted the corporate office and was told i would hear from them in approximately 24-36 hours but that was 5 days ago.

2005 nissan pathfinder se with 86,000 miles starting having operational issues when running at 2000 rpm's. was taken to the dealer for numerous services and was mentioned to service department. service department said they could not find anything and that it wasn't anything to worry about. after several thousand miles the rough engine running at 2000 rpm's was becoming more evident. service manager test drove the vehicle and immediatly knew what the problem was as they had many other pathfinders in for the same problem. we were told that the radiator seal was leaking fluid in the transmission and that the radiator needed to be replaced as well as a transmission flush to the tune of $850.00. nissan representative appeared at dealership and was notified of the problem however refused to cover the problem saying that it was our problem because it exceeded the 80000 mile extension on the radiator. nissan never notified us about and extension on the radiator in the first place. the service manager aslo indicated that he could not puy a warranty on the transmission that received the radiator fluid in the transmission. nissan has known about this problem but refuses to own it. they have lost a very good customer who was about to purchase another nissan vehicle.

2005 nissan pathfinder has reportedly had multiple complaints regarding the cooling system leaking into the transmission, causing rust and subsequently, a failure in the transmission. it is reported that the radiator and transmission can be replaced to the tune of $5000-$8000 but does not fix the problem - will have to be done again in the future. transmission slips between 40-60 miles per hour and loses acceleration. dangerous behavior that can cause serious accidents and injury. nissan is ignoring the problem and won't respond to complaints. have extended warranty to 80,000 miles but of course the majority of owners experience this issue at 100,000 miles or 5-6 years.

I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder 4x4 se off road with 115,000 miles . beautiful vehicle but beginning to have problems the fuel guage will go to empty when full , also having hesitation about 40 miles an hour .i read about the horror story with radiator problem causing transmission problem . i have an appointment at a nissan dealer this weekend for the recall on the ecm so i will have further info on the hesitation , nissan recalled the fuel gauge problem but limited to 72,000 miles vehicle only ,i think they should up hold the nissan rep and take care of these problems also the transmission problems due to faulty parts . these problems are not normal wear and tear .

I don't understand that 3 nissan 2005 pathfinder recalls have recently been announced within the past 6 months but i don't qualify for 2 of them because of the year/mileage cap. so people who actually use their vehicles are at a disadvantage even though a design flaw has been acknowledged. my wife and i have owned 6 different nissans (pathfinder, sentra, ultima, murano) since 1998 and disappointed with the handling of the year/mileage cap on the pathfinder recalls. this makes us seriously think about looking elsewhere for our next vehicles.
08/23/2010118000
The initial problem was that the vehicle overheated. further investigation revealed that the transmission cooler inside the radiator had broken. this flooded the coolant system with transmission fluid, which then circulated through the engine. the coolant/water mix also leaked into the transmission and caused the transmission to fail. corrective action taken - replace radiator, all hoses, and transmission.
10/17/2010130000
I brought car to the dealer for service and asked for the tranny to flushed they said the radiator had a leak and there was coolant in the transmission. they offered to replace the radiator and flush the system for $1,000 but didn't think that would help. the dealer wanted to replace the transmission and radiator for 8-10k. i ended up taking a loss and trading in the car couldn't see putting that kind of money into a 5 year old car. after looking on the interent found hundreds of people having the same issue very dissapointing nissan doesn't stand behind their product.

We were driving in our 2005 pathfinder when the car decided to decrease speed all by itself after we pulled out into an intersection with traffic headed our way. took the car to nissan dealership was told coolant leaking into transmission due to a defected seal in the radiator to fix the problem ecm, tcm, transmission and radiator need to be replaced about 7,000 to fix the problem nissan need to correct there mistakes not recall one component that got fried because coolant leaked on it thats not going to correct the problem. i cant believe we have to wait for someone to loose a love one before action is done we were second away from that, seriously. not a joke nissan needs to stand up for there mistake this is america right don't we have rights to a safe auto for our children after paying alot for a car that suppose to be safe just google 2005 pathfinder complaints and see how many are really out there 93% transmission problem on the 2005 same thing coolant leaking into the transmission make nissan recall these cars and fix the problem we work hard for our country and deserve quaility what if this was your family nissan you have your family in one of these car think not!!!

When our 2005 nissan pathfinder started to make a grinding noise during gear shift at 40 mph and 60 mph, we immediately took it to the nissan dealership only to be told that a problem with the radiator was causing coolant to leak into the transmission, mixing with the transmission oil and destroying our transmission. this was on august 12, 2010. we were told we would have to replace the entire radiator and transmission at a cost of over $4500.00. we could not understand how coolant could be leaking into the transmission, so we immediately contacted nissan north america and filed a complaint. this kind of damage should not occur due to normal wear and tear. we were informed that not enough complaints had been filed but they would keep a record of our call and we would be contacted if they ever did a recall in the future. still confused about what was causing this problem, we decided to get a second opinion at another nissan dealership, less than 15 miles away from the first. this was done on august 30, 2010. we were told the same thing, the coolant was leaking into the transmission, but they wanted over five thousand for the same repair. before making a final decision, we decided to research this issue further. we were amazed to find over a hundred complaints online, all from owners of 2005 nissan pathfinders, and all complaining about the thousands of dollars they had to pay to repair both radiator and transmission for the same problem we, too, were experiencing. with no help or acknowledge from nissan, we went to an outside mechanic and had the work done at a much lower cost.

I was on a family trip and had realized that when i was at stop my coolant temperature would rise and i would get a slip. waited for my 2005 nissan pathfinder to cool down and then i checked on my radiator fluid. to my surprise it was gunky, like oil was all in it mixed with the anti-freeze. come to realize that it was transmission fluid. so much of it that it had even clogged up the passage way to the thermostat. after doing some research, i had found out that there are many many others that have experienced that same ordeal. there is a flaw in the radiators that were used by nissan on 2005 and up pathfinders, x-terras, and frontiers with the 4.0 v6 engines. these radiators, in which anti-freeze and automatic transmission fluid, would both pass through are somehow cracking and mixing the 2 fluids together. when this mixture occurs, the radiator and tranny oil would need to be flushed. the transmission will then also need to be replaced because of damage already done. this will ad up to about 5k-8k. nissan does not take responsibility of this damage. if you google 2005+ nissan pathfinder transmission, you will see that there are many complains about it.

My transmission totaly went on my 2005 nissan pathfinder. it would not start. the computer shut the car down b/c the transmission was not working. i was stranded with my childern at a shoppping center. i took it frist to a transmission specailisht. he could not repair it b/c he could not get the parts from nissan to fix it proper. he said he had seen 18 of these 2005 pathfinders with the same issue. it happens at 60,000-120,000 miles. i took it to a dealership. they knew right away. i was told it was a design flaw, the coolant from the radiater leaks into the transmission causing the transmission to go out. i was told i had to replace the radiater and hoses, so this would not happen again. nissan made changes in the radiator to correct their mistake. i had to replace my transmission, tempature gauge, and raidiator with new.

My 2005 nissan pathfinder began to shutter then jerk back into normal driving as it reached speads of 60-70 mph. it was very sporadic in the beginning, but started to happen more frequently and at lower speeds for a longer period of time. i brought the truck into nissan with 70,000 miles, at which time i was told that the radiator leaked into the trasmission causing the need for both to be replaced at the cost of $6700.00. i did alot of research and discovered that hundreds and hundreds of people with the 2005 nissan pathfinder with aproximately the same mileage (just after warranty expires) are experiencing the same issues. it seems as though a faulty radiator system was installed into these vehicles. they kept my truck for 12 days while trying to decide if they would offer assistance with fixing my 5 year old vehicle. the end result being, that they would pay to replace the transmission and i would pay to replace the radiator as well as the labor costs. i was told that this did not occur as a result of anything i did wrong. i asked why a recall isn't being done, at which time i was told that the number of injuries or deaths was a major factor in that determination. although i was not injured, this is a huge financial burden to take on for a vehicle that is only 5 years old. nissan needs to take responsibility and stand behind the parts they put in their vehicles!!

The coolant line in the radiator got a leak and mixed transission fluid with the coolant causing me to have to replace the radiator. not sure if this is what causes a miss fire in cylinder # 2 but now there is a problem with that as well. hopefuly it was caught in time as not to damage the transmission. i hope nissan will own up to this problem and make the necessary repairs and restitution to pathfinder owners.

Noticed rough shifts in transmission, eventually failed to engage 5th gear. took to dealer, transmission lines inside radiator had ruptured. replaced transmission, radiator and lines at a cost of over $8000 and 4 weeks time. this occurred at 67k miles. at 87k miles, radiator fluid is milky and shows symptoms of another rupture of coolant lines inside transmission. dealer and nissan usa do not recognize this as a safety issue or inherent defect in engineering. however, a simple search will show an extremely large number of people with similar issues caused by faulty cooling lines in the radiator rupturing causing transmission abrupt behavior and the danger for loss of vehicle control due to the failure.

Radiator/transmission fluid mix the trans started shifting in and out of o/d at just over 40mph (vibrating) at about 99,000 miles. took it to the shop and found the radiator busted and mixed with trans fluid. had the radiator replaced and the transmission flushed twice. at a cost of $1,058.00 it worked fine until 103,000 miles. it just made a thump noise and the transmission started slipping so bad it barely got me home.

2005 nissan pathfinder. transmission failure due to coolant conamination. radiator had to be replaced as well as the transmission . many other problems with car. the fuel sending unit, air conditioning/heater fan, drive shfts/universal joints, brakes. just about everything has failed and cost me massive amounts of cash.

2005 nissan pathfinder transmission/coolant failure. as i have read on a number of sites (www.consumeraffairs.com/.../nissan_pathfinder.html) this has been an issue with thousands of people. the radiator fails causing the transmission fluid to mix with the coolant which causes failure to the transmission and cooling system. this is an issue that thousands have complained about. lets get something done. nissan has refused to handle the situation!!!!

Nissan corporation has a manufacture defect in their radiator which causes coolant to leak into the transmission. this action need a nationwide recall on both parts (radiator and transmission). just like toyota corporation had nationwide attention, nissan need the same ordeal. the vehicle in question is a 2005 nissan pathfinder. this vehicle has extended warranty which was not honor. quoted when purchasing the extended warranty, everything is cover from bumper to bumper, even down to the bolts. this is a misleading statement from the warranty department. warranty department would not honor the warranty due to coolant was in the transmission. money was paid for this purpose, now they say the warranty does not cover this mishap. after researching and talking with skills mechanics, it was discovered that the coolant came from a defective (busted) radiator. the mechanics stated this is becoming a common problem.

After transmission flush, trannsimission failed shortly thereafter. replaced transmission june 2009. march 2010 had vibration problem and returned for transmission repair again. second torque converter replaced. within 1 week vibration issue returned. dealer review confirmed that coolant from radiator had leaked into transmission and that radiator and transmission need to be replaced. this would be my second transmission, and third torque converter in less than a year, due to a faulty radiator used by nissan in '05 & '06 models.

In dec. '09, noticed rear end vibration and clinking sound. thought it might be transmission problem. purer coincidence-brought it to dealer for coolant flush was told that there was trans fluid in my radiator. called my trans repair people (not nissan). they were aware of problem. told me that radiators in pathfinder 2005's were defective. coolant leaked through one of radiator trans coolers, into trans. and trans fluid leaked back into radiator, rendering both irrepairable. needed new trans and radiator. told dealer and nissan. through several phone calls/negotiations,, nissan agreed to do the $5,000-7000 repair for dealer labor charge of $450. told me i would get money back if there was a recall. dealer did repair. the problem is also a safety issue, because radiator and/or trans can fail while on the road. countless pathfinder owners have reported the problem to no avail. nissan getting away with a major defect that cou;ld prove dangerous.

Vehicle hesitates during overdrive at speed of @ 40-50mph. vibration occurs and gears do not properly engage. failure is due to defective radiator leaking fluids into transmission. nissan installed defective radiator in 2005 pathfinder. they refuse to correct the problem leading to damaged transmission!
04/28/201084000
It all started with the radiator and the only reason i even knew something was wrong was that my gears were switching weird. i took the car into the dealership, they told me that i needed to get a new radiator and transmission b/c my radiator fluid was leaking into my transmission. they quoted me at $6000. i then took my car to get a new radiator and transmission flush, it helped a little. my car finally gave out 2 weeks ago. while driving down a side street, thenall of a sudden the transmission wouldn't switch gears. i tried pressing the gas to go and the transmission would not go. the car was still running, however i couldn't grab any gears to go. i got it towed to a transmission shop, they told me that my radiator fluid is leaking into my transmission which made my tranismission lock up. they took my transmission apart to look at parts and apparently everything is rusty together, not to mention the computer in the transmission is fried. you would think that nissan would recognize an issue when they see that that same part is on backorder b/c i am waiting on a part. while reading others with the same issue, some have been on the highway and the transmission went out. this is definitely a safety issue seeing as if driving at high speeds you could possibly get rear ended badly. i almost got rearended while only going 45mph

Had a vibration in my vehicle. took it to the shop as it was getting worse. long story short..a known defect with the radiator. caused my antifreeze to enter into the transmission fluid and transmission fluid in my radiator. mechanic said its a known issue with the vehicle, and we need to replace the radiator, and flush everything out. total cost ~$1500. 2005 nissan pathfinder ~ 85,000 miles.
05/13/201059000
Nissan pathfinder 2005, 59k miles - experienced vibration and shuttering of the vehicle during acceleration, took it into nissan dealership and they said that the coolant line cracked causing the fluid to mix with the transmission creating replacement of both radiator and transmission. this seems to be a common complaint by the consumer! hopefully nissan will issue a recall before someone is injured or worse, it would be pretty sad if it had to come to that. extended warranty covered the transmission but i have to pay for the radiator $950.00.
05/04/201078000
2005 nissan pathfinder with approximately 78,000 miles developed a vibration and shaking when driving at a constant speed on any road, however; when driving with overdrive off the vibration and shaking is no longer present. when vehicle was brought to nissan dealership they discovered that the transmission fluid was mixing with the engine coolant and vice versa. upon diagnosis of this problem the dealership said it would be about $6,000 to replace transmission and radiator and fluids. luckily my extended warranty covered this. i am not the first person to have this problem. http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f177b6c/0 http://www.carcomplaints.com/nissan/pathfinder/2005/transmission/coolant_leaked_into_transmission.shtml for proof of others with the same issue.

I have taken my 2,005 nissan pathfinder to my dealer ,because of a rumbling sound;the mechanic said that the radiator has a internal damage and cause the antifreeze to leak to the transmission. i do have a extended warranty that the dealer also refuse to take because the radiator is not cover but the transmission it is,but they still will not repair the transmission.
02/15/201074500
2005 nissan pathfinder with 74,500 miles needs transmission replacement and radiator due to leaking of radiator coolant into transmission, mixing up with transmission oil damaging transmission. looking at customer complaints online, it looks as every pathfinder with above 60,000 miles suffers the same problem.
03/28/201080000
Vehicle shutters and shakes in overdrive at @ 40/45 mph and does not properly engage gears during operation of vehicle. the transmission fails during normal navigation through traffic. confirmed factory defective radiator leaked coolant into transmission causing ruined transmission.
03/03/201058000
My 2005 nissan pathfinder has a faulty radiator which leaks back into the transmission. the vehicle has less than 60,000 miles and the dealer says nissan will not cover the transmission damage. on emonds.com there are hundreds of complaints for the same exact complaint from other owners. the problem causes the vehicle to shake at highway speeds.

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder. i have come to find that the transmission is failing due to a defective radiator letting radiator fluid into the transmission. my car, which has 88lk miles is now out of the 60k mi. nissan warranty. from doing research online i see that this is a very, common problem and seems to affect all 2005 pathfinders. as this has been a known problem for some time nissan could have warned about the issue (replacing the radiator before it failed and failed the transmission) as well it most likely started failing before the warranty expired. nissan will not fix the issue. i feel that nissan should be compelled to fix this issue for all 2005 pathfinder owners.

I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder se. i have had an issue with it and it could of been a safety issue. in june '09 the radiator had a cooling line that broke which has become a transmission problem. and anytime that a drivetrain is in issue it could cause a safety issue. i replaced the radiator for $600 and the transmission went out with violent stuttering and engaging in and out while in heavy traffic which could of caused a major accident especially at highway speeds. i have replaced the transmission with no help from nissan. this is a major problem that has been documented by several hundred consumers all with the same problem. the total i spent was $3197.09 which should be reimbursed by nissan corp for this problem is well known by the yet no recall has been issued. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder started having shifting problems, had 60k service done at dealer, started again, flushed again at 72 had problems again at 80 and at 87k the radiator core failed and leaked into the transmission causing the transmission to fail and seize total cost for repairs 4400.00 after hearing about this i did a little search and found this is a big problem with this car, as the shifting is a precurser to the failure, i wanted the dealer to cover since they assured me it was ok.. *tr

My 2005 nissan pathfinder is having the same transmission problems that so many others are having. it seems that nissan had a defective batch of radiators that has let coolant leak into the transmission causing vibrations, hesitation and eventually failure.we have three foster children and one of them is an infant with a feeding tube and track i do not want to get a call from my wife saying she has broken down on the road on her way to visitation with the biological parents or to doctor appointments. nissan is clearly avoiding this problem! i expect they will start taking action when lawsuits start rolling in on them. mr. ceo of nissan may find this thing parked in his living room if something happens to my foster children because of breaking down. just kidding, but i will be pissed. someone please do something about this!!! *tr

Regular driving minimal to hardly any towing. transmission and coolant flushed religiously at 30k since taken ownership. current mileage 80k. failure of radiator cross contaminates atf and coolant, eventually destroying transmission costing $5000 to repair aside from disabling the vehicle. this is an issue on many 2005 pathfinder, xterra and frontiers equipped with 4.0l v6 coupled with 5 speed automatic transmission. vehicle is currently at the dealership. nissan must take responsibility. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder has problems with antifreeze leaking into the transmission because of some design flaw. after researching this problem i see that there are many complaints of this occurring with this same particular model. the transmission starts to make a grinding noise and then will start slipping. nissan is aware of the problem because they are the one that has diagnosed it over and over again, but have refused to issue a tsb or recall. this is a very serious defect and is costing people 5 to 10 thousand dollars to fix. my 2005 nissan pathfinder is at the dealership awaiting repair. this will cost me $5500 to fix and nissan will not assist. nissan should consider the problems that toyota is having right now and issue a recall for this defect. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder. consumer states problem with vehicle transmission *tgw the consumer stated while driving, the check engine light illuminated, as well as the 4-wheel drive light. the vehicle started hesitating. when the consumer called the dealer, they advised her to open the gas tank, to see if a puff of air came out. once she told them no, she put the vehicle in drive and it would not move, she then put it in reverse, and it still did not move,. the dealer then advised her to disconnect the battery for a half hour. she reconnected the battery and drove around the block and it stalled. the consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer. an inspection revealed a problem with the transmission. the dealer stated a gasket between the radiator broke and anti-freeze leaked into the transmission. the dealer informed the consumer, it would cost $6,000 for the repairs. *jb

I was traveling on interstate i-95-n near exit 7 at a high rate of speed, my transmission failed due to a crack(fault )in the radiator assembly unit. as i attempted to exit the interstate while losing speed, i was almost rear ended by a tractor trailer and hit by another car. eventually, after coasting down hill to an intersection of center of new england/ new london turnpike, had to get out and push the vehicle with help from other persons to nearest service station. nissan extended warranty on radiator assembly unit to 8yr/80,000. i have 6yrs+/92000, took extremely good care of this vehicle and am now being told i need to pay $6,500.00 to fix vehicle (while i still owe $12,000.00). should have been a recall before someone gets killed (if not already) and /or the warranty should be offered for at least 120,000 miles. what a poor attempt to cover up an obvious design flaw, while trying to hide from their obvious liabilities for this situation.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING - ENGINE
03/15/2011
Premature wear of timing chain and timing chain guides. in the nissan pathfinder 4.0l v6 engines, the timing chain and timing chain guides are wearing out prematurely. our vehicle was identified by nissan dealer service at 62,000 miles and the required fix action was to replace the timing chain and timing chain quides out of warrenty at a cost of $1500.00. these parts do not have a recommended service interval as they are supposed to last the life of the vehicle however nissan has identified this as a problem in the pathfinder and other nissan vehicles that use the same engine and has issued two seperate service bulletins to correct the problem at customer expense. this appears to be an enginnering deficiency and should be addressed by nissan at their expense.

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder se, 4.0 liter v6 with 53,000 miles. i just had to replace the timing chains, timing chain guides, and timing chain tensioners. i was driving on the freeway when the problem occurred and had to have the car towed home. the dealer wanted in excess of $2,500.00, i had the work completed for $1,800.00 with another source. i have come to find out that this is not an uncommon problem with this vehicle and nissan refused to do anything about it. i contacted nissan north america and was told that while my car has under the 60,000 mile warranty limit, i was over the 5 year limit by 7 months.

This vehicle is a 2005 nissan pathfinder se, 4.0 liter v6 with 53,000 miles. 60 month warranty expired 7-2010. the timing chain and gears broke apart causing engine to stop running. normally timing chains and gears should not disintegrate for considerably longer than 53,000 miles. filed complaint with nissan north america 3-28-11 with no satisfaction. they were unwilling to do anything since the vehicle is past 60 month period and since we never serviced the vehicle at a nissan dealership. having researched this problem it appears that this is not an uncommon complaint with 2005 and 2006 4.0 liter v6 motors. dealer is asking in excess of $2000.00 to correct the problem.

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder le, it currently has 64,000 miles, at approx. 58,000 miles i notice excessive vibration thru out the vehicle at about 74mph, i took the vehicle to have the tires balanced and rotated but this did not fix the problem, took the vehicle to nissan who told me they could not duplicate the problem but i should keep an eye on it, when it was time for my oil change i told them the problem still exists and again they could not find a problem so they re-balance the tires which did not change anything. i did some research online only to find out that there are hundreds of threads reguarding this insident were the radiator coolant line leaks into the transmission and causing damage to the transmission, it is a known issue leading to the replacement of the radiator and transmision, car shakes tremendously as if it were falling apart, how can there be so many complaints and yet nissan does nothing to fix it, extended warranties cover transmission damage but your still left with a $1000.00 bil for the radiator.

Engine shutoff without warning in september of 2009, i started to have sudden engine shutdowns in my 2005 nissan pathfinder. it could occur anytime and was completely unpredictable. the most dangerous times were at highway speeds with traffic behind me. i contacted my local nissan dealer several times and the suggested a number of possibilities and checked various items without success. i wrote the nissan consumer affairs department (nov 17, 2009) and explained my situation and the danger after an internet search revealed the problem to be a computer device called the intelligent power distribution module or ipdm. at the time of my problem this device was on back order because of the demand for them. i paid to have my ipdm replaced because of the very serious and dangerous problem of the engine shut-off without warning, since the device was replaced, i have had no problems with engine shutoff and my vehicle runs fine. i can not believe that nissan is not appear of the problem since appears to have started in about 2005. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder (56,000 miles) has defective radiator which leaks fluid into transmission, now needs both radiator and transmission replaced. transmission is covered under warranty but because of nissan's bad radiator they will not cover the cost of either. *tr

My nissan pathfinder (2005) stopped in the middle of the road. i had it towed to the repair shop and was told it was a computer sensor and they repaired it. my service engine light came on a week later- i took it to the shop again and they said it needed a catalytic converter and fixed it. now 3 weeks later the check engine light is on again! *tr

While driving our 2005 pathfinder on the hwy i noticed smoke ( a lot)coming from the back of the vehicle. the car was also losing rpms (like the tranny was slipping) the shop said the radiator leaked into the transmission and fried the transmission ($7000).nissan here locally stated they have seen this problem before in the model. the engine stopped smoking after 20 minutes, had to evacuate four children on the hwy. this is second posted complaint about this problem. the shop states this is a design flaw.*cw

This complaint relates to a widespread manufacturing defect in nissan pathfinder and frontier models in production and sale prior to 2008. the issue is the failure of timing chain mechanisms due to inferior quality plastic guides that have failed on a huge scale worldwide. nissan's recognition of this problem was reflected in tsb nos. ntb07-042 and ntb07-042a. recognizing the design flaw, nissan changed the parts in 2008 and forward. outside of warranty times, nissan refuses to repair or replace the relevant parts and, apparently, has not notified customers of the potential problem of catastrophic engine failure that could result in accidents involving serious injury or death as a result of sudden engine failure. as documented on the internet, many failures of these components are occurring post-warranty and most consumers have no knowledge of the impending dangers because nissan appears to have not publicly acknowledged the problem. for those customers who do become aware of the problem post-warranty, they are facing repair costs of approximately $2500.00 which is an economic burden placed upon them by nissan emanating from nissan's own internally-recognized design flaw. request is hereby made that this situation be investigated and that nissan be held responsible and accountable for the economic and safety dangers it has perpetrated by its admitted design flaws. our own 2005 nissan pathfinder is facing this problem at the present time. at a minimum, nissan should be required to advise all owners of the relevant vehicles about the need to avoid engine failure, especially for the large number of affected parties who are post-warranty and unaware of the problem. the nhtsa should also determine the number of parts failures pre- and post-warranty. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving between 25-50 mph, the engine loses power but does not shut off. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle would decelerate. the check engine warning light illuminated. the dealer replaced the throttle and the speed sensor, however, the failure still persisted. the current mileage is 19,200 and failure mileage was 7,600.

I have had a constant problem with my 2005 pathfinder. there is an annoying loud squealing noise coming from the engine compartment. i have taken it to the dealer twice. the first time it was diagnosed as a bad belt tensioner and was replaced at about 1500 miles. the second time was a bad belt at about 4500 miles. i just had my 30,000 mile service and the vehicle checked out fine now the noise is back louder then ever.*ak

My 2005 nissan pathfinder bucks as i accelerate. i took my car to lithia nissan and they informed me that there was a defect with the transmission and radiator, and that they saw milky fluid in my car which indicated transmission and radiator fluid mixing together. the cost would be $5000 to fix both. the next day i took it to my personal mechanic, and he checked the fluid which was clear. the bucking problem still exists in my car, what else would cause this problem. the dealer said i was out of the warranty stage so i would have to pay for the repair, i dont trust them now because they told me false information regarding the color of the fluid. what should i do ?

My 2005 nissan/pathfinder was leased from ray brandt nissan in july 2005. in april 2009 i purchased the lease. in january 2011 i began to have problems with the vehicle. it was determined that the issues were related to the transmission and radiator. the technician phillip rehage at ray brandt( 504 367 1666) referred me to the the national consuemrs dept. of nissan because this was an issue they were aware of but, had not notifed the consumer. the representative lindsey henry ( 800-647-7261 ext 47116) at the national division / nissan usa., acknowledged the default and therefore they replaced the transmission and radiator. this they considered was a good will' measure becuase the vehicle was out of warrenty by 200 miles. i drove the vehicle for 5 days and the same issues arose again. i brought the vehicle back to ray brandt.this time they informed me that the issues were related to the catalyic convertor. apparently it had come apart and damaged the engine. the dealership, ray brandt again informed me that this was also a defect by nissan and referred me back to the national consumers' division, nissan usa. i contacted lidnsey henry again. this time she informed me that it was nissan' policy to extened only 1 good will measure. they refused any assistance. while awaiting for her response and the vehicle still in the shop at ray brandt, a re-call was issued on the engine. lindsey and nissan still contend that they only extend 1 good-will measure. both nissan usa and ray brandt nissan acknowlege the defaults and faulty parts however, neither are willig to assist. in addition i have considered purchasing another vehicle from ray brandt but they have refused to offer a appraisal value for a trade-in. prior to these issues i had never experienced any probelms with my pathfinder until nissans' defective parts malfunctioned.i am appealing to you for your assitance in rectifying thes issues.
