Defect SummaryCertain hopkins aftermarket trailer brake control connection harnesses sold for use on certain models of nissan vehicles which are listed above. the internal part numbers within hopkins are: 1010476025, 1040376025, 1110476025, 1170376025, 1290376025, 1010476035, 1040376035, 1110476035, 1170376035, and 1290376035. a wire may have been placed in an incorrect position in the electrical connector housing. this results in an incorrect routing of wires between the trailer brake controller and the towing vehicle wiring system.
Consequence SummaryThis harness would result in power from the trailer brake controller going to the towing vehicle dash light circuit rather than the trailer brakes. this result would be the lack of trailer braking when the towing vehicle brakes were applied. it would also result in the towing vehicles dash lights being activated when the vehicle brakes were applied. the failure of the application of the trailer brake could result in reduced ability to stop and contribute to a possible crash.
Corrective SummaryHopkins will notify owners and replace the original harness with a revised harness free of charge. the recall began august 17, 2007. owners can contact hopkins at 800-835-0129.
NotesThis recall only pertains to aftermarket harnesses and has no relation to any original equipment installed on vehicles manufactured by nissan.customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

2005 nissan pathfinder. engine cuts off without warning while driving. has happened twice in traffic, one time at a busy intersection. vehicle starts about 20 minutes later. took vehicle to dealer who advised that it's 'most likely' ipdm failure but they are unable to diagnose as it doesn't throw a code. dealer kept car 5 days and tried to duplicate the failure to positively diagnose, but was unable to. the day after picking it up from the dealer the engine quit again in traffic. now we are told that our warranty company will only cover if they can positively diagnose. my toddler was in the car the first time this occurred and our car died in the middle of an intersection between 2 6-lane roads. couldn't remove the vehicle for 30 minutes. just waiting for it to happen while merging on the interstate during rush hour traffic. hopefully there are no injuries or fatalities as a result of this failure.

2005 pathfinder se, roof rack front covers keep coming off while driving, design/mounting mechanism insufficient. it's happened 3 times, driver's side twice, passenger side once. dealer said parts are on back-order because other pathfinder owners are having problems too. nissan needs to figure out how to mount these covers, instead of just keep on replacing them! *nm

8-9-2010 i began having difficulty getting my car to shift into reverse. within 2 weeks, while driving down a crowded highway, my car wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th, and i could smell something burning. when i finally found a spot to pull over and park, a large puddle of fluid leaked all over the ground. i was alone, in an area i didn't know, and nearly got rear-ended several times when it wouldn't shift gears. i took it to several shops, and the transmissions was ruined. it would have to be rebuilt or replaced, both totalling thousands of $ i don't have. i borrowed money to have it rebuilt. within 2 weeks, i started having the same issues. when i took it back to the shop, the technician said radiator coolant had leaked into the transmission and it would have to be rebuilt or replaced again. after looking online, i see hundreds of complaints for the exact same issue. for the fuel system, approximately 5/2010, the fuel gauge will drop to empty, even though there will still be fuel in the tank. sometimes it will stick to mid-full when there is no fuel. adaptive equipment, when i start the vehicle and try to warm it up, it will only blow cold air, never warm no matter how long it runs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the vehicle was purchased on 4/11/05. the seat belt failure began on 2/1/07 at 32,000 miles. when the driver side seat belt was not latched and the brakes were applied the warning seat belt light came on, but there was no warning sound to alert the driver that the seat belt wasn't locked. on 2/3/07, there were additional repairs to the seat belt system. however ,the failure recurred. the dealer ordered the body control module, and was currently talking to nissan to diagnose the failure. on 2/4/07, the contact advised the dealer that the heater vent control motor that adjusts the vents was constantly on blower mode. the heater vent control would not change to the defrost position when selected. the dealer repaired the vent modulator motor ,and the heater failure was resolved. the contact wanted the seat belt warning system repaired prior to the warranty expiring. the current mileage was 30,369.*ak consumer states hissing noise coming front right rear door even when radio is inoperable. update 4/9 *tr
