2005 nissan pathfinder. consumer writes in regards to technical service bulletin recommended that fuel level sending unit be replaced and requests assistance for repairs. *smd the consumer stated he took the vehicle to the dealer, because the instrument panel fuel gauge was giving an incorrect reading. he explained to the dealer, the instrument panel showed the vehicle had approximately one-quarter tank of fuel, when in fact the fuel tank was empty and the service engine light had illuminated. he also pointed out to the mechanic, that due to the inaccuracy and erratic movement of the fuel gauge reading, it could stall, at any time a resent an unsafe condition of the vehicle and compromise the life and safety of his passengers. after a careful review was conducted by the nissan technician, it was determined that the problem was due to the fuel sending unit malfunctioning, which was discovered earlier by nissan, in which a technical service bulletin was issued. nissan denied the consumers request to have the fuel sending unit replaced free of charge, because the vehicle was outside of the new vehicle limited warranty. the consumer stated nissan has since issued a safety recall regarding the fuel sending unit and extended the primary warranty.

Failed emissons test because of failed fuel level sensor, can suddenly run out of gas on full gauge or overflow when gauge says empty when filling up tank
04/26/201263750
The fuel quantity indicator upon filling up the tank froze at one half a tank mark on the indicator. the next time the fuel tank was filled up on 5/3/2012, the tank indicator went from half a tank level readng to a empty tank reading when the tank was filled up. the low fuel light came on, as did the service the engine light came on and has stayed on ever since. since the fuel quantity indicator now shows an empty tank, you could very easily think that you were going to run out of fuel, when in fact you have a full tank of fuel. to a driver who did not fill up the vehicle, this could lead to an attempt to fill up a tank that was already full.

The fuel sensor reads inaccurate fuel levels and has caused me to run out of gas while it was drving. i had to walk in the cold to the gas station to get a container to fill my car up. the sensor reads ----- and the gauge shows an empty tank. their is a recall for the 2006 nissan pathfinder but their is no recall for the 2005 pathfinder when it comes to the fuel sensor. this is shameful considering this is an all too common problem that people are experienceing as noted by the raves online. nissan should be helping their consumers and keep the owners safe.

8-9-2010 i began having difficulty getting my car to shift into reverse. within 2 weeks, while driving down a crowded highway, my car wouldn't shift from 3rd to 4th, and i could smell something burning. when i finally found a spot to pull over and park, a large puddle of fluid leaked all over the ground. i was alone, in an area i didn't know, and nearly got rear-ended several times when it wouldn't shift gears. i took it to several shops, and the transmissions was ruined. it would have to be rebuilt or replaced, both totalling thousands of $ i don't have. i borrowed money to have it rebuilt. within 2 weeks, i started having the same issues. when i took it back to the shop, the technician said radiator coolant had leaked into the transmission and it would have to be rebuilt or replaced again. after looking online, i see hundreds of complaints for the exact same issue. for the fuel system, approximately 5/2010, the fuel gauge will drop to empty, even though there will still be fuel in the tank. sometimes it will stick to mid-full when there is no fuel. adaptive equipment, when i start the vehicle and try to warm it up, it will only blow cold air, never warm no matter how long it runs.

My car had 1/4 fuel, i filled the tank to full, the gas gauge do not set the car to full tank, i read the book and made the instructions but the gauge do not change, when i run the car for 2 hrs. and i turn off, it began to change to full tank. the other issue was when i had a 1/2 tank of gasoline...i stop for 5 minutues and i leave the car on, when i returned saw the gas gauge in empty... actually i have the check engin light on for some days and off for the others days.

Noticed that fuel and oil pressure gauges would not register fuel or oil levels correctly, the miles till empty will not work. we have no idea when we are going to run out of fuel, started getting worse, than notice the check engine light came on, had vehicle diagnose, turned out that both the fuel and oil pressure sending units needed to be replaced, there are numerous pathfinders with the same problem but there are no recalls on these issues. this repair is very costly and is dangerous to be driving without the fuel and oil sending units. why are there no recalls? please help!

The fuel system gauge will not register the amount of gas in tank. after fueling, the warning light still appears and don't go off and it's a big inconvenience for as driving an not knowing if your going to run out of gas. very disappointed with the nissan products simply because there are two many problems going on with this particular vehicle and cannot get anybody help for mistakes they made. the whole vehicle need to be recalled because trying to replaced all these problems are very expensive. wish i would have know of all the problems before i purchased it.

At about 40,000 miles fuel guage stopped working. and started having intermittant electrical problems. headlights going on and off when in park. fan starting when key is turned but not cranked. anti-theft system locking me out from starting the truck. 70000 miles vehicle would intermittantly not start. it would crank but not start. took it to nissan and was told nothing could be done on their part. i was told it was the ecu, bmu, tmu, and ipdm were all bad. i replaced the ipdm and bmu and ecu. truck still ran rough. at 91000 miles nissan now says my transmission is bad due to the radiator coolant leaking into the transmission but i am out of the 80000 mile warrantee. nissan said they will pay half to fix if i pay half of the $4600 transmission repair. nissan can not explain why this happened but acknowledged that this is a big complaint of the 2005 pathfinder

Radiator leaks fluid into transmission, nissan knows this is a flaw and they will only flush your tansmission, just to put it off until you are out of warranty. i started taking my nissan in at 52,000miles for this problem and they kept telling me that they are unfamiliar with the problems i was experiencing and they couldn't find anything wrong with the truck. now i'm out of warranty and my transmission needs replaced. nissan also has a problem with they fuel gage, sometimes it shows gas levels, and sometimes it doesn't. i have ran out of gas 3 times now, on the highway! again, nissan knows this is a problem, they even sent an extended warranty to cover this problem specifically. but, only if you are under a certain mileage. and they didn't send me the notice until i was under the mileage limit by 300 miles! please help!!

I was driving my vehicle to the hospital one day and the gas gauge suddenly went to empty and the check engine light came on. every time i fill up now the gas gauge stays at empty until 3/4 tank and my check engine light is permanently on. it's the fuel sensor that has gone bad and it will cost me 600.00 to fix this problem. i can't register my car because i can't get the check engine light to stay off.

Fuel sending unit in my wife's 2005 nissan pathfinder went bad not allowing her to know how much fuel was remaining
08/10/201092000
I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder, and i am the original buyer. at approximately 92,000 miles my vehicle developed the fuel guage failure where the guage reads a 1/4 tank even if full or empty, and the dte indicator is just ----. i took it in with 93,855 miles in august 2010 for an extended warranty repair. this repair was declined for coverage (not a nissan warranty) and i paid $408.65 to have it repaired at the nissan dealer. in december 2010, i received from nissan a letter relating this exact problem/failure and that all 2005 thru 2008 pathfinders were being issued a warranty extension of up to 6 years and 72,000 miles. from doing research, i understand nissan originally did this for just 2006 thru 2008 vehicles, but there was such an outcry from owners of 2005s that they were later included. in the nissan letter, it stated that if you had this fault and had it repaired at your expense, you could send in documentation for a refund. there was no mention of the 6 year or 72,000 mile limitation in the letter for prior repairs. i sent in my documentation. it makes no sense that a fault of the manufacturer does not cover all repairs, but it appears that those who bought the early vehicles with obviously more miles than the newer ones are being discriminated against since my refund was denied. i have read on your site that many others with 2005s are also being denied. nissan should do what is right and pay for these repairs. it is a safety issue since one can run out of gas at an inopertune time, or even pump in gas and have it overflow due to the tank being full and the driver not knowing it. they could try to force in fuel due to a 1/4 tank indication, and while refueling, after putting in 3 gallons, the automatic pump cuts off the flow. the driver knows that 3 gallons did not fill a 1/4 full tank so they keep pulling the handle trying to fill the tank. they would then be rewarded by having fuel shoot out of the tank possibly on them , and possibly having it ignite.

I don't understand that 3 nissan 2005 pathfinder recalls have recently been announced within the past 6 months but i don't qualify for 2 of them because of the year/mileage cap. so people who actually use their vehicles are at a disadvantage even though a design flaw has been acknowledged. my wife and i have owned 6 different nissans (pathfinder, sentra, ultima, murano) since 1998 and disappointed with the handling of the year/mileage cap on the pathfinder recalls. this makes us seriously think about looking elsewhere for our next vehicles.

I bought the car in feb. of 2009 and by march of 2009 the the fuel sensor started acting funny. it was not covered(which it should have been by the dealer) and i could not afford to pay out of pocket. now the fuel level will read - - - when the tank is less than 1/4 a tank of gas and it also makes the service enguine light come on. it is not safe for families to be driving with a defective fuel sensor. i did receive the something in the mail about a recall on the gas gauge, but my vehicle had just passed the 72000 mile mark(72135 roughly) so i was told that it was not covered and i woul dhave to pay out of pocket for the problem. i have been looking online and the fix is very expensive $500 and up. on a one income home i cannot afford to pay for a part that should have been fixed by the dealer before i bought the vehicle! also, when locking the car the horn does not sound anymore. this is not a huge deal but i am wondering if it has something to do with the service enguine light that came on because of the fuel sensor.

Fuel gauge has been behaving erratically for over a year. in the last 6 months it works some of the time and dte indicator is stuck to ---- all the time. when fuel level drops below 1/4 of tank, it always shows empty, and even after filling up, it still shows empty for a long time. i can only guess how much fuel i have at all times, based on overall mpg rating and mileage since last fill-up. i've already got stuck once with no gas, thankfully not in the middle of a highway which could have been extremely dangerous and hard to get gas to the car. this apparently is an issue with thousands of owners of 2005 nissan pathfinders, like mine, yet nissan hasn't recalled this units, even though they recalled 2006 and later models, which indicates a major pattern of failure in their nissan pathfinder fuel level sensors. they are forcing me to replace the sensor and pump at a cost of almost $600 when it should be a part replaced as a part of a recall. please, do something about it. there are thousands of people out there with 2005 pathfinders that have the same problem and nissan is completely ignoring us!!!!

I am having a problem with my fuel gauge for my 2005 nissan pathfinder. the gauge on my dash board does not accurately reflect the amount of fuel that is in the fuel tank. no matter if the tank is full or not the gauge reads empty 99% of the time. occasionally the gauge will read as if there is fuel but this happens very rarely. because of this defect i have run out of fuel on a number of occasions and have lost control of my vehicle because of the loss of power. the problem has been around for about 20k miles. currently i am at about 88k miles on my pathfinder and because of the miles i do not qualify for the extended warranty that i just found out about, which caps the miles at 72k.

Service engine soon light started coming in and out and dte- distance to empty reads empty along with an erratic fuel gage which fluctuates from full to one quarter tank although vehicle may be full of fuel. diagnosis code of p0463-fuel sending unit pulled by dealership. this is second time this part as failed with the first being at 32,711 miles. i'm very concerned that my vehicle may run out of fuel while on the road, a major issue for my family

2005 nissan pathfinder le fuel gauge reading fluctuates and reads empty 90% of the time, causing a potential accident due to inaccurate gas reading. purchased suv brand new in nov '06, reported issue during warrenty period, but never seemed to act up when at the dealership, until 51k miles hit and the problem became perminant and out of warrenty. i have 2 small children and have run out of gas once on a major highway 66 and once on a back road in winter with no reception. this is a serious issue that thousands of people online have posted the same situation. nissan clearly needs to issue a recall for the 2005 nissan pathfinder. i was lucky enoguh both times to not be re-ended, but have had my infant with me both times and had to have citizens push me to the shoulder.

Vehicles fuel system is faulty. i noticed that the gas gauge reads empty after having a full tank of gas, additionally the digital distance to empty display does not work properly. at times the low gas indicator will be displayed even after i filled the tank up. i have been in two different situations where i ran out of gas on the highway thinking that i had enough gas for my journey. this is a major safety hazard. nissan replaced the parts on 2006 & 2007 vehicles but refuse to replace my 2005 device quoting that it has high miles and out of warranty.

My 2005 nissan pathfinder fuel sending unit was not working properly. you did not know exactly how much gas was in the vehcile therefore could have caused severe injury if driving and ran out of gas and didn't know it!

2005 nissan pathfinder: fuel gauge sensor problem. when i fill the tank the gas gauge drops below e and the fuel light comes on. the dte indicators flashes - - - - lines (indicating i am at 0 miles til empty), and the service engine light comes on. once i use about 100 miles of the gas the gauges will all correct themselves. we have contacted nissan and they will not cover this as it is not a recall. there are over a dozen articles on line where people have noted the same identical problem with the fuel gauges. nissan will not cover the problem - it will cost approx $700 for us to fix. please push nissan along and have them recall the vehicles experiencing this problem.

Our 2005 nissan pathfinder had an issue with its fuel gauge recently where the gauge would not work properly and tell us the correct amount of gas in the car. i google'd the problem and based on the forums and responses it is a known problem. it seems that all pathfinder models from 2005-2008 has this problem occur. which seems to be a safety issue, because you cannot tell how much gas is in the car and you could run out on the highway. nissan recalled titan, armada, qx56, quest (2005-2008), and also fountier, xterra, and pathfinder (but only cars manufactured jan-marc 2006 and oct 2007-jan 2008) for this issue. we took our car to nissan of eastside to get this looked at and it is going to cost us $535 + tax. nissan of eastside said they don't know why 2005 pathfinders were not recalled, and it is the same part that the other cars that were recalled had replaced. can you help us find out why 2005 pathfinders were not part of this recall? i called nissan consumer affairs and they know that this is same part for 2005, but were not reimbursing for repair since it was not part of recall. this is a safety hazard and seems to effect 2005

The fuel level sending unit has failed on my 2005 nissan pathfinder causing the fuel level gauge to provide inaccurate readings. the failure occurred one month ago. since then my fuel gauge has provided inaccurate gas level readings potentially causing me to run out of gas while on the highway. i have not yet attempted to get the part fixed, but after doing some on-line research i have learned that it will cost about $500 to fix. the problem is, apparently, relatively widespread.

Faulty fuel sending unit/sensor... doesn't work. and 'check engine soon light' goes on and off all the time!
06/15/200949000
On a 2005 nissan pathfinder the fuel gauge stopped working properly with only 49,000 miles on vehicle. vehicle was also less than 5 yrs old. check engine light also came on at same time and remains on even after dealer servicing for an unrelated problem. after contacting nissan via email twice, and once over the phone, nissan will not acknowledge that (according to internet reports) hundreds, if not thousands, of people have the same identical problem. i believe they should be forced to recall these vehicles for this problem. this poses a safety hazard due to drivers running out of gas, thus walking on freeways; with their vehicles either blocking traffic or parked on the freeway. please help! nissan is negligent!

Began around 45,000 miles. service engine light displays, with an inaccurate and erratic fuel gauge reading. vehicle shows empty with warning light while driving. no way to tell how much gas is in the vehicle at times and consider it a safety issue. it is a known failure of the 'fuel sending unit' with many nissans, dealership was aware, nissan voluntarily recalled some 2006 and 2008 nissan paths for the fuel gauge/sending units but not 2005! it is the same exact problem. i travel with my young daughter and i had to repair at my expense so that i wouldn't run out of gas. a young mother out of gas and stranded with her young child ---how unsafe can you get? 2005s should be repaired at their expense.

The contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. the contact stated that the fuel gauge gave incorrect readings and would indicate that there was fuel in the fuel tank when it was empty; when full, it would indicate that the tank was empty. dealership stated it was fuel sending unit. the failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

I recently received a recall on my armada 2006 for the fuel level sending unit. ialso have a 2005 pathfinder and i am having the same problem. i am not sure why the pathfinder which is a 2005 would not be on the recall list also, i had to pay almost $600 to repair at the dealer. i would think they would be the same type of fuel level sending unit from the same manufacturer.

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder. at approximately 46000 miles the fuel gauge began acting erratically and i got a check engine light. i took it to the dealer and diagnostics showed code p0463 which indicated a fuel sensor sending unit failure. i talked to the service technician about it and he stated this is a very common problem with my model year, in fact there has been recall on previous models however my vin was not covered. i had to pay 473$ to get it fixed in order to pass emissions testing. i feel this is a safety issue as without knowing the amount of gas in the fuel tank my wife and kids could easily become stranded.

The check engine soon light came on. i checked with obd ii and it was the fuel sensor. i checed online and found many others with the same problem. with so many failures it seems apparent it is the result of a faulty part and a recall should be issued. it causes the gas guage to work erratically. nissan is charging over $500 to fix this mess to the customer.

Check engine light stays on and fuel tank level does not work properly. i don't know what caused it to start. it started on its own.
03/22/201078000
The fuel gage is no longer working. the computer in the vehicle cannot read if any fuel is in the tank in turn lighting the service engine soon light. this is a great concern as the drive dosen't know how much fuel is in the vehicle which may cause serious accidents as a result of a stalled vehicle in traffic.

Fuel sender gauge on my 2005 nissan pathfinder is failing or has failed. will consistently flash dashes or report 0 for the distance to empty indicator and the fuel gauge is now responding similarly. there has been no damage to property or injury as of yet, but i am appalled that nissan has the 2005 armada (similar design) and the 2006 pathfinder listed for the recall, but claims the pathfinder is not covered by this, when a quick search of forums will offer up overwhelming evidence that this is a problem for numerous parts of the product line and could easily result in the car shutting down due to faulty information or running out of fuel due to inaccurate readings. to make matters worse for owners the repair for this runs upward of $600 for an admitted faulty part. can the dot at least look into this and consider rectifying this situation? i am having a hard time believing that a company could just overlook this problem and simply get away with it. please help us who are having a hard enough time making ends meet every month since this economic downturn began and are looking at unexpected vehicle failures that are blatantly a manufacturer's defect (even admitted to) but not covered by some weird economic choice. if i'd thought i'd be going through this, i would've bought both smaller and from another manufacturer. you can bet that currently i will not buy another nissan again, regardless of how many americans they employ.

2005 nissan pathfinder se 6 cylinder started showing erratic fuel level at 45,000 miles. fuel gauge will show empty/full or low after filling tank or show erratic levels when close to empty. i have to write the the mileage after every fill up and project mileage for next fill up. dealer will not repair although the 2006 models with the same defective part in the fuel tank are being repaired or recalled. estimate cost of repair $450-$500. replacement for defective part is not available at dealership parts store. they are being used for the recall of the 2006 and newer models. this is an issue during long trips and registration.
12/02/200952000
I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. after filling up my gas tank, i turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. after driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. i can not rely on my gages to give an accurate reading of my fuel and/or how many miles i have until i am empty. now i have an additional issue that seems to be associated with this where my oil pressure needle always shows high. this did not fix itself. it appears there is a recall on 2006 and younger models for this issue, but my 2005 pathfinder is not included in the recall. the issue i am having is exactly what is associated with the other recalls.
04/10/201070000
Fuel gauge sensor shows erroneous amount of fuel in gas tank. consequence: this could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. this failure is 100% of the time 2005 nissan pathfinder xe, nissan currently have a recall for this sensor on 2006 and 2008, however since a similar issue is present on 2005 they either missed my year or they don't actually know root cause of the problem.

2005 nissan pathfinder. check engine light came on after filling up with gas. the gas gauge reads empty and fuel light is on even though the tank is full. called nissan told me this was a very common problem among nissan suv's but unfortunately there is no recall for my personal vehicle. i was told just to watch my mileage so as to not run out of gas or repair the fuel gauge sensor @ an estimated cost of $600. if this is a well known problem why can't the consumer get any help?

Noticed a fuel gauge down to empty after gas was filled up. since the first time it failed, the fuel gauge has never been the same. it reads half or empty never in between no matter how much gas is in the tank. was informed by nissan dealership that its a know problem with the fuel send unit. nothing has been done to correct it as of yet. nissan has been contacted numerous times and have failed to correct the issue. the 2006 nissan pathfinder with the same issue has been recalled but 2005 has not been recalled.

The gas gauge registerd a half tank of gas. the car ran out of gas while driving at 70 miles an hour on the highway.

1.gas gauge was reading past empty so on my way to drop my kids off at school stopped and fueled up. prepared to fill up the tank since the reading was past empty but the tank would only hold about 2.7 gallons. a couple weeks later the same thing happened but the opposite; the gauge was reading 3/4 tank full but obviously the reading was wrong because my wife ran out of gas and was stranded. 2. this is a recurring issue; the fuel gauge has not worked properly since feb 2010 3. took the truck into nissan for repair and was told there is no recall report on the 2005 pathfinder's fuel gauge but there is a recall on other models. i was told the repair would cost around $500
10/01/200950000
When fuel guage gets to 1/2 tank level reading or less, it immediately drops to e (empty). this is a vehicle my wife drives, and she has run out of gas on several occasions due to the incorrect readings. this is not an intermittent problem, it is constant. we are concerned about potential safety issues associated with this defect, especially since she often travels with our 2 children. everything i have read from pathfinder owners relative to this problem indicates it is a defective fuel sending unit. we saw that a recall was going to happen, but were dismayed that it did not include 2005 pathfinders, as the same type of complaints from owners clearly indicated the problem spanned the 2005 model year. we now try to keep the tank over 1/2 full, but it requires us to make twice as many gasoline stops. this is a significant defect and does include 2005 nissan pathfinders. i would be happy to video tape what occurs if needed.
02/16/201096000
2005 nissan pathfinder gas gauge failure is a safety issue. the gas gauge in my 2005 pathfinder fails and has caused the car to run out of gas twice in busy interchanges. a rear end collision could result in an accident or death.
09/01/200950000
I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder. around 50000 miles the fuel gauge quite working properly and continues to show both accurate and erroneous indications. i will indicated properly at times and indicated improperly at times. also the distance to empty calculator has quite working. this is a very common issue with the pathfinders, nissan recently issued a recall for the 2006 and 2007 nissans for this problem. however they failed to include the 2005 pathfinders which have numerous reports of the exact same symptoms. i have run out of fuel twice due to incorrect fuel indications. fortunately they were both near home on unbusy streets. i have a 2 year old son and i can't afford to drive and unsafe vehicle. heaven forbid i run out of gas on a 4 lane highway with no shoulders. nissan knows there is a problem with these and yet neglected to include 2005 pathfinders in their recall. they continue to deny responsibility for the safety of the people that drive their cars. the fix for this cost nearly $500. in my case it caused the check engine light to come on, which in turn means my vehicle will not pass inspection. all because of a fuel level sendign unit that was either engineered improperly, manufactured imporperly or installed improperly. why is it that the exact same type of vehicles have the exact same problem all around the same mileage. i highly doubt it is coinsidence. in fact, nissan recognizes that there is a issue with the fuel level sending units, yet somehow the 2005 pathfinders don't fit into the recall. you would think with the recent issues with toyota that nissan would be more willing to ensure the safety of their passengers.
03/29/2010450001
My 2005 nissan pathfinder hit a metal object in the road with one of the front tires. the object was propelled under the car towards the rear. there it contacted the fuel tank and punctured the tank. this caused 16-18 gallons of gasoline to flow out of the tank. after stopping i had to step through a steady stream of gasoline to remove my infant daughter from the middle row's driver's side seat. at this time i'm aware of no other damage sustained to the vehicle. police and fire department responded to the scene, and the police report is available upon request. this incident appears to be consistent with events described in the recall 06v003000 for the 2005 nissan murano, however to my knowledge it appears the 2005 nissan pathfinder has not been recalled for this issue. currently i'm awaiting the final repair bill and determination if anything beyond the fuel tank was damaged. at this time the current repair planned is to have the fuel tank replaced. the old fuel tank is being kept in the event it is needed for insurance or safety inspection. *tr

 Sending unit fail 2nd time
06/13/2009600001
Beginning on or about the date referenced, the fuel gauge began to malfunction by showing incorrect fuel level and distance to empty readings. for instance, the gauge will read empty when the fuel tank has just been filled. it will also read full when the tank is nearly empty. this problem has persisted constantly to the present time. *dt this malfunction also causes the service engine soon light to illuminate. the code associated with the ses light indicates a problem with the fuel level indicator. this malfunction constitutes a safety related defect which could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. in that regard, this defect is similar to the one addressed in nhtsa campaign number 10v-075 and should result in a product recall.

I have a 2005 pathfinder le. the fuel gauge is showing in-accurate reading even if there is no gas in the tank it still reads with a quarter of the tank which could lead to the vehicle running out of gas and stalling the vehicle in the middle of the highway as i use this vehicle on long trips with my family. there was a service bulletin ntb07-069b august 12, 2009 for pathfinders including this model but the recall does not include the 2005 model which is odd that they will bypass the '05 and start the recall from model '06 till 08, where, there were a lot of fuel gauge complaints. this failure has been happening every fill up. and i have been filling up every 1/2 a tank. *dt

My 2005 nissan pathfinder has 58,136 miles and the gas guage has started to malfunction. when filling up the tank, it takes driving the car for at least 30 miles before the guage will move from empty and then the dte display never shows how many miles i have remaing and it show four dashes and sometimes 0. i am never sure of how much gas i actually have since the guage is no longer accurate. this is a potential safety issue and i am concerned that they are recalling all models above the 2005 when we are having the same issue. please help!

Nissan has a well known fuel gauge issue does which shows the tank as empty even with a full tank. my wife has twice run out of gas, once in a major intersection, called me crying. thankfully a good samaritan came over and pushed her out of intersection. my 16 yr. daughter is now driving this car and uses freeway daily, what happens when car stops at highway speeds and god forbid is involved in an accident because of this known issue. a 16 year old girl should not be subjected to this. is nissan going to admit responsibility if something terrible happened in this scenario? my issue is that this is now being recognized by nissan and a recall is being initiated. many 2005 models except the pathfinder are going to be fixed free. they are only going to fix from 2006+ on the pathfinder. there are numerous blogs on the internet that illustrate the 2005 nissan pathfinder owners are experiencing this exact problem. are we suppose to spend $600 to fix what nissan acknowledges as an issue and is fixing on most of their other models except the 2005 pathfinder. this is ridiculous. our pathfinder is the 3rd nissan we have owned. previous models were xterra and titan truck. *tr

In january 2010 on 2005 nissan pathfinder the fuel distance to empty reader began showing inaccurate readings (ie. with full tank it would read 0 miles to empty, or with 1/4 tank left it would read as though tank was full). service engine soon light would sporadically light-check showed for fuel sensor. than without warning the gas gauge itself began to give false readings, same as above. within several days lost all power on vehicle while driving on highway almost causing a crash. repair facility states that vehicle was out of gas though gauge was registering more than 1/4 tank left. further investigations shows this is a common problem with nissan vehicles, but nissan has failed to recall this safety issue. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder se. i have had an issue with it and it could of been a safety issue. in june '09 the radiator had a cooling line that broke which has become a transmission problem. and anytime that a drivetrain is in issue it could cause a safety issue. i replaced the radiator for $600 and the transmission went out with violent stuttering and engaging in and out while in heavy traffic which could of caused a major accident especially at highway speeds. i have replaced the transmission with no help from nissan. this is a major problem that has been documented by several hundred consumers all with the same problem. the total i spent was $3197.09 which should be reimbursed by nissan corp for this problem is well known by the yet no recall has been issued. *tr

Re: 2005 nissan pathfinder about 2, 5 years ago, my fuel gauge read 1/2 full or all empty and check engine light was on. changing oil reset light initially, but it came back on. short time later car failed safety inspection because of gauge and light. car mechanic replaced sending unit, fuel pump and filter. said pump needed to be replaced in order to replace sending unit. dec/09 car failed to start. gauge read 1/2 full. mechanic said fuel filter failed, but pump had to be replaced since filter is inside pump. jan30,2010. as i write this my tank reads half full and the car won't start. it is doing the same thing it did the last time. being stranded because of a failed fuel pump/filter/ gauge/sending unit is dangerous. i can trust that a part (that is supposed to last the life of the vehicle) isn't going to fail me. i would add over the last several months, despite appropriate servicing and maintenance, (even replaced tires) my fuel consumption has become very poor. the issues are somehow connected. see also blogs http://www.topix.com/forum/autos/nissan-pathfinder/tmvjfugon9rd4eb8i entitle fuel gauge problems. evidently, there are a lot of people world-wide having the same or similar problems. *tr

We have a squeaking underneath our vehicle and it smells like gas. after researching it online we found out that there is problems with the fuel pump assembly and that there is no recall. we are worried that our vehicle could be leaking gas due to the change in the fuel pump assembly from the 2004 to the 2005 model. our gas gauge reads incorrectly and the check engine comes on so we suspect it has to do with the gasoline smell and the squeaking. we think that there must be a hole somewhere that has occurred from the constant rubbing of the fuel pump assembly. *tr

I filled up my gas tank and it didn't register a few days later the check engine light came on i took it to the dealership who informed me that my warranty expired a month ago and i was almost 1,000 miles over the warranty limitation. so because of this i would have to pay anywhere from $400-$800, which i don't have we're in a recession. also while i was driving to nursing school one morning the 2005 pathfinder i was driving just stopped in the midst of morning rush hour traffic in the dead of a cold blistering winter morning. later that day i took the vehicle to firestone who gave me a printout to take to the nissan dealership for the fuel sensor problem that seems to be apparent in this model as well as others. again nissan wasn't willing to fix this problem. i pray that you guys can help us nissan owners who have invested our hard earned money into a vehicle of this type which by the way isn't a cheap vehicle, to alleviate this problem by asking nissan to take ownership of the faulty products that they're selling so that we don't have an additional out-of-pocket expense because of a problem that is truly no fault of our own. obviously this is a safety issue and problem because my vehicle didn't pass inspection. so please help us millions of consumers who are having this problem get corrected through nissan its the right thing to do since this problem existed in other models and previous models they should make a better product or correct the problem as they occur. nissan is a reputable company and unlike other automobile dealerships they're doing quite well so they can afford to keep us as customers happy by correcting their fuel system problems. *tr

A few weeks ago after filling up my 2005 nissan pathfinder, i noticed several contra-indicated problems. first, my dte screen showed no numbers. two, my gas gauge showed my tank as empty, even though again, i had just filled it up. all this after only about 65,000 miles. *tr

I began having problems with my 2005 nissan pathfinder with 38,958 miles 2 weeks ago when my 'dte' (distance to empty) indicator began messing up. the suv is running fine like it always has. my dte indicator showed ------ and the gas gauge showed zero gas and the light was on. i knew i had at least 1/2 tank of gas. after filling up, everything went back to normal. thursday evening, 8/16/07, the dte showed -------, but then corrected itself and was fine. on 8/17/07, the 'service engine soon' light came on. i replaced the gas cap, had the oil changed, and it still stayed on. my husband took the suv to autozone to have the codes pulled from the computer. the code is p0463: definition-fuel sending unit condition. she indicated if the car is running fine, which it is, the fuel pump is fine, there could be a bad spot on the fuel level sensor. of course, we cannot just purchase the 'fuel level sensor' without purchasing the entire fuel pump assembly. this will be a pricey repair at $420.00 for the part only available through nissan due to the newness of this body style. in april of 2005, i chose to purchase a brand new 4x4 suv for dependability and no worries taking my kids to school and after school activities. a repair of this magnitude on a less than 2 year old vehicle is not what i had in mind when purchasing this vehicle. every mom panics when the 'service engine soon' light comes on, hoping you and your children make it to where you are going safely. i feel this is a manufacturing defect and nissan should be responsible for repairing this on all newer nissan pathfinders. this is part of the gas tank we are dealing with. i doubt i will ever purchase a nissan again. this is obviously a manufacturing issue and not due to operator error, however, i will have to pay to have this fixed. *jb

With just 64,585 miles on my 2005 pathfinder le i started to experience the check engine light and a sometimes dis-functional gas gauge. while taking the vehicle in for the wiring harness recall, the local dealership checked the code and determined the problem was with the fuel sending unit assembly---estimated part cost of $420.00! since the vehicle was over 60,000 miles the part was not covered under warranty. i was not experiencing any performance problems, but because of the code, the vehicle would not pass the state required emissions test until the unit was replaced. less than 2 years old and already had to replace the fuel pump assembly. *jb

My 2005 nissan pathfinder se has a loud squeak/vibration coming from the underbody, the same as described in complaint number 10143438. i too, have confirmed that the source of the loud squeak/vibration is from the fuel tank/fuel pump design. recently, i have been informed (as of two weeks ago) that the tech people of nissan of north america in california have yet to find a solution to the problem. although my vehicle is completely under warranty, i have also found dealing with the nissan customer service center to be difficult as, unlike local mechanics, the nissan customer service center does not appear to want to even acknowledge the existence of the problem let alone put anything in writing about customer service issues to its consumers. often times, (such as right now) the nissan customer service center won't call me back even though they promised me that they would do so. this vehicle is an expensive vehicle and i agree with the previous complaint that it is absolutely unacceptable that nissan does not have a fix for this problem and/or won't communicate with its life-long consumers about what the problem actually is, what they are doing about the problem or when they expect to have a fix for the problem. *jb

My 2005 nissan pathfinder le has a loud squeak/vibration coming from the underbody. dealer (ramsey nissan - ramsey, nj) has confirmed that the source of the loud squeak/vibration is due to the change in design for the fuel pump spring assembly. apparently, the 2004 pathfinder had a 2 spring design which was changed to a 1 spring design in 2005. once the fuel tank becomes pressurized (car running for approximately 10 minutes), a loud, constant, and obtrusive squeak/vibration comes from underneath the car. to date, nissan does not have a fix for this which is unacceptable since the vibration is coming from a critically sensitive area such as the fuel tank. this is an expensive vehicle that should not sound and feel like it is 10 years old. it is absolutely unacceptable that nissan does not have a fix for this. *nm

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE - STORAGE - TANK ASSEMBLY
*tr

2005 nissan pathfinder. faulty fuel guage. shows empty and low fuel light on when it is really a full tank. this started off slowly and gradually. it would work when i first filled it up and then about half a tank it would stop working right. then it just completely quit working at all and the low fuel light stays on all the time now. i have to write down my mileage and try to get gas every 300 or so miles, very much annoying!

2005 nissan pathfinder fuel level sensor needs to be replaced, diagnostics done after on going problem and called nissan after nissan sent out extended warranty that i cannot use as it will not cover my truck for replacing this part. (over $72k mileage but under 72 month) they admitted in this extended warranty that this is a problem with some pathfinders. i called about this issue back in may of 2010 only to be told that i can pay for this replacement of this part and if there is a recall i can submit my invoice for reimbursement. recently when i called about the extended warranty, because i am over the mileage and i have had my vehicle for almost 6 years, i was passed off to consumer affairs, and was told i would be reimbursed for the diagnostics if it in fact did come back that it is the fuel sending unit. so, $128.00 later i was told i would not be reimbursed for the diagnostics and they would only pay $250.00(this does not include the labor at which i am expected to pay out of pocket) of about a $600.00 replacement of a bad part! i have been writing my gas mileage down for 58 weeks now, as this problem started at 71086 miles. i brought this to the attention of the consumer rep only to be told that because it wasn't diagnosed 58 weeks ago they will only pay $250.00, even though this problem has been the same problem for 58 weeks, no matter if the diagnostics was done then or now. there is quite a forum on edmond's.com for this issue as this has been an ongoing problem and even though the part number for this fuel sending unit is the same as the 06 pathfinders- nissan will not recall the 05's and fix this issue, but they did recall 06's.

My 2005 nissan pathfinder started stalling last week.i would be driving on the highway and it would just go dead making it near impossible to turn the steering wheel.i was towed to the nissan dealership whom informed me it was an ipdm issue which was in the process of a recall.i informed them i was strapped for money being it was a 700 dollar job.they said chances were it would be covered.it was not covered!i was informed by their consumer affair people if there was infact a recall i may be notified for reimbursement.i have found on numerous sites that it is recalled but because i did not receive a letter it is not their problem.this is not the first issue i've had with nissan.a fuel sensor issue was found and they covered nothing telling me it was not a safety issue.i was out of warrenty so tough luck.another 377.00 bucks.please investigate nissans practices.i will never trust the nissan name again

Details: vehicles fuel system is faulty. i noticed that the gas gauge reads empty after having a full tank of gas, additionally the digital distance to empty display does not work properly. at times the low gas indicator will be displayed even after i filled the tank up. i have been in two different situations where i ran out of gas on the highway thinking that i had enough gas for my journey. this is a major safety hazard. nissan replaced the parts on 2006 & 2007 vehicles but refuse to replace my 2005 device quoting that it has high miles and out of warranty

I own a 2005 nissan pathfinder se, which i bought used.after a few months and at 85, 000 miles the check engine light came on my father-in-law, mechanic, checked it and said it was the fuel level sensor. it causes my dte (miles left to drive based on fuel load) to not work properly and sometimes my light comes on indication low fuel when it is half full. i was also told that it would not pass the emission testing because of this problem. i called nissan and they siad i had to repair it on my own since i have no warranty. to top it off aside form the sensor that needs replaced another part connected to it also needs to be replaced. from estimates i hav ebeen getting it will cost me between $379-$500 to fix. i researched and found over 300 complaints on the following website http://autoforum.classifieds1000.com/nissan-pathfinder/fuel_level_sensor_input_a. ............ i hope nissan does a major recall and not let its consumers down. this may be the last nissan i buy.

My 2005 nissan pathfinder had a bad fuel sensor.upon calling the dealer, they gave me the nissan consumer affairs number to call stating that although my vechicle wasnt recalled for it they fixed others with nissan covering the expense.when i called i was told i had to get it repaired at the dealership to possibly be reimbured after the repair was made.i did what they said and they refused my claim stating it did not fall under the recall.i paid twice the amount at the dealer then i would have at a regular mechanic.the service manager was so sure it would be covered as he had another vechicle with the same issue not on the recall list and they approved that truck!the regional specialist was snippy and would not let me speak to her supervisor.im disgusted and asking that you check into the integrety as a company.do they lead you to believe you might get help just so you go to their service?i hate nissan and will never buy another!

Recently there has been a recall on the 2006 and 2008 nissan frontier, xterra, and pathfinders about how the molded fuel tank shells can deform, causing the fuel sender float arm to contact an embossment molded into the tank shell causing the instrument panel fuel gauge to show that the vehicle has approximately one quarter tank when the fuel tank is empy. this has happen to number times except i have a 2005 nissan pathfinder, which has the same identical part in the 2006. this happens to me everytime when the fuel guage reaches a little below the half way mark. it reads it has about 100 some off miles until empty. when i get up for work in the morning the and start the vehicle the fuel gauge needle goes below empty and the fuel gauge lites up. i feel since the 2006 and 2008 has been recalled and its happening to my 2005 model also, that it needs to be put on the recall list.

2005 nissan pathfinder ipdm failed in the middle of traffic at 70 mph with no warning. lost all power and left family stranded on side of the road. had car towed home then to nissan where they admitted alot of same problems with other 2005 pathfinders. now fuel sensor failed on pathfinder which nissan has recalled for 2006-2008 pathfinders for same reason but not 2005 pathfinders with same problems. car is almost 5 years old and has had 4 batteries and has left us stranded 6 times all for electrical issues that are posted on the internet as a huge consumer problem with pathfinders someone is going to get hurt or killed in a nissan unless government takes a look at these problems. all internet postings are regarding same issues ipdm module and the fuel level sensor. please help

I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder taht about 3 kws ago i started to have problems with the fuel gauge readings not being accurate and getting erratic reading or none at all or when the gas tank is half full i don't get any reading, after contact with the nissan dealer in my area they gave me a copy of a service bulletin that had been sent to all dealers on aug 12,2009 about defective or erratic fuel gauge issues, classification# el07-027b ref# ntb07-069b, applied vehilesc 2005-2009 pathfinder (r51), applied vins 2005-2008 pathfinder-all, also in the recall which states 419,000 vehs in the us for a fuel gauge problem, the nissan dealer stated that nissan is not answering complaints of fixing the problem, i contacted nissan of n. america and received an e-mail saying there is no recall or service campaign and that i should pay to have the defect fixed, the dealership says in 2 wks they have only received about 3 letters on recalls from nissan and when they called to find out why so slow, no answer was given, i don't feel that i should have to pay to get a defect fixed that nissan already knows exsist in their vehicles, my vin# 5n1ar18w15c 775594 and the file number by nissan is file# 6754826, the two nissan consumer reps spoken to were vivian gonzalez and samantha forrester, i would like your help on this matter

2005 nissan pathfinder started having shifting problems, had 60k service done at dealer, started again, flushed again at 72 had problems again at 80 and at 87k the radiator core failed and leaked into the transmission causing the transmission to fail and seize total cost for repairs 4400.00 after hearing about this i did a little search and found this is a big problem with this car, as the shifting is a precurser to the failure, i wanted the dealer to cover since they assured me it was ok.. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder. the entire car shuts off while driving when it has 1/4 tank of gas. mine cut of while going through a busy intersection. took it to the nissan dealer & they said it was the idp chip. i looked on the internet and several pathfinder owners have this same problem. this can be very dangerous. the car cuts off with no warning. the dealer told me the part could take up to 1 month to get in! when they finally got the part it cost me over $400 to put in on. this is a serious and very dangerous problem. *tr

We bought our 2005 pathfinder used and upon getting a half of tank of gas our gas meter goes straight to empty if it's left idling for a short period. it won't return to full unless you fill the tank back up. it used to return to the correct position when we'd shut the car off then turn it back on but it's no longer doing that unless we fill the tank back up. it seems this is a common complain on this model and seems kind of dangerous. *tr

My 2005 nissan pathfinder's gas gauge display suddenly dropped to show 0 miles on distance to empty while the gauge showed 1/4 of a tank. the display then went to a flat line and the check engine light illuminated. at the intake the dealer service rep gave no indication that they have seen such before and the second service rep said he has seen it once or twice. he stated the repair would be near $500. after i balked about such he made some calls and was able to get it down to a little over $300. while looking on line today, i found that there are over 36 complaints about this on this reporting agency throughout all the fuel system sub categories. there is also a technical bulletin from nissan ntb07-069a that addressing such in pathfinders, frontiers, and exterra models built prior to september 2007. diagnostic codes 0461,0462,0463. with this being the 37th complaint, should this not be investigated further? *tr

[fuel level sensor] service engine light went on august 10, 2008, two codes p0463(fuel level sensor) and p0420(catalytic efficiency low). shortly after this; when filling-up the fuel gauge would read e after some time it would read correctly. this problem is intermittent. the service engine light has been on since then and i've had other issues with the vehicle. this jan. 27,2009 i went to the dealer to fix the cat., and cancel the service engine light, but the dealer had a hard time link-up with the computer because of some short in the system caused by the rear view mirror(compass). they said the code for the bad cat. was complete and not the problem, they said the computer came up with a p0507(idle speed control motor). the code p0463 did not come up. as soon as i left the dealer i filled the fuel tank. and now the gauge went to e and fuel light is on the dte reads ----, and the service engine light is on (i called the dealer right away and told of the problem). it's been like this for 3-days in a row. i have to bring it back to the dealer. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder. fuel gauge reads zero, half tank or somewhere in-between when the tank is full. service engine light comes on and will not go out unless the fuel gauge starts reading correctly (which it sometimes does). this is a known problem. nissan has even come out with a service bulletin ntb07-069a that addresses the problem. the problem that i have is that this has happened to several people, and the repair bill for a vehicle that is out of warranty is between $400 and $600. i believe that this could be considered a safety issue and a recall should be issued if people are running out of gas due to incorrect or non-existent fuel level readings. *tr

I have a 2005 nissan pathfinder xe 4wd. the vehicle is issuing obd diagnostic trouble code p0463 indicating a faulty fuel level sensor circuit. doing a quick search online, i was able to determine that there are hundreds of other pathfinder/x-terra/frontier owners having the exact same issue. also, some websites indicated that this fault has occurred on previous year's models and was recalled. however, no recall exists for the newer models. this is plainly a design/manufacturing fault which should be repaired by the dealer under recall. a safety issue exists because it causes the fuel gauge to misread potentially leading a driver to become stranded w/o fuel. also, a potential environmental hazard exists as this is part of the emissions control system on the vehicle. please advise on how the nhtsa plans to handle this situation. for reference: http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/xterra/4151-fuel-gauge-problem-service-engine-soon-light.html http://answers.edmunds.com/question-fuel-gauge-2005-nissan-pathfinder-90-time-stays-empty-1-2-full-wrong-5170.aspx http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/350072. *tr

2005 nissan pathfinder fuel indicator light sensor, after reading several identical complaints it seems to be a defect with the sensor. but in order to get a 80 pert fixed the dealers are charging $500-700 with labor and having customers replace the entire fuel pump while there at it. at 60,0000 miles the fuel gauge now reads empty and the check engine sensor remains on. if i don't pay to fix the sensor i will not know how much gas i have & several customers failed inspection. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 nissan pathfinder. while driving 20 mph, the contact noticed that the fuel gauge indicator illuminated, which meant that there was no gasoline in the tank. however, she had recently filled up the vehicle with fuel. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop and it was determined that the fuel sensor failed. the fuel system sensor was reset. a couple of weeks later, while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle shut off. the contact was able to shift into park and restart the vehicle. when the vehicle was restarted, the contact noticed that the service engine indicator was illuminated. the vehicle has not been inspected by a technician to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer would not provide compensation because there were no recalls available. the failure and current mileages were 53,987. updated 4/23/09 *cn updated 04/28/09.*jb

Fuel gauge becomes inaccurate after it reaches half of the tank. for example , i may start off on a full tank and when the gauge reaches halfway, it drops all the way down and i become unaware of what remaining gas is left. as i became more aware of the problems, i started researching and noticed that this is a common problem that owners are having with their nissan pathfinder. *tr

I filled my tank up one day and after getting in the vehicle it showed empty on the tank and the service engine light came on. i found out it was a fuel sending unit that went bad. i was at 38,000 miles on the nissan pathfinder and the warranty was up conveniently. the bill for fixing this is over $400. i have not fixed it yet because i know there is gas in there and it drives fine, but my wife goes hay wire about it every time she fills up the tank and it still shows empty. i wish nissan would send a recall or technical service bulletin to get this fixed for free. i sounds like there are many problems of this same nature. *tr

My fuel gauge and miles until empty gauge are both shot. they work once in a while, but most of the time the dte reads 0 and the gas gauge is on e. also my service engine soon light has been on since this problem started at approximately 60,000 miles. there are 3 complaints the same as this one and being that my 2 year old vehicle is no longer under warranty, i am forced to pay $400 to correct this problem when it is obviously happening to others. hopefully a recall will come out for this malfunction. *jb

My 2005 nissan pathfinder se with 22k miles had the service engine light come on and the dte (distance to empty) indicator began to malfunction. since the vehicle is still under warranty i took it to a dealer. as with complaint numbers 10200004 and 10176618 the problem was determined to be the fuel level sensor. the dealer replaced the part and it was under warranty. *tr

At 56000 miles my cars computer and fuel gauge decided to malfunction. i filled the car up with gas and immediately the check engine light came on. the fuel gauge will not go below 1/2 tank. after taking it to the dealer it is a fuel sending unit that is not covered under warranty and is a $400 repair. this car is less than 2 years old and now i am having to spend $400 so i can tell if i have gas! updated 12/31/07 *jb
